- This is an audio archive of a lecture that was presented on September 24, 2010 at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.
Until 2007, the men who built and flew the "OXCART" A-12, a mysterious high-speed, high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft, were known only as "secret heroes of the Cold War." Now, just two and a half years after their identities have been declassified, you can hear some of these secret heroes discuss the development, operations, and legacy of the Central Intelligence Agency's top secret Cold War project, OXCART.
I had the privilege of being able to touch one several times a week ago in The American Aircraft display at Duxford in England. Had I done that when serving in the RAF, I'd probably have been shot !!
I add that to the experience of touching an SU-27, the first time I saw that, the video was SECRET. Wonderful aircraft both.
Having flown Lockheed Hercules and Tristar, I have a great affection for Lockheed aircraft, the SR-71 probably being the peak of their creativity. Well done the Skunk Works.
Wonderful amalgam of familiarization coupled with technological history for one of the iconic aircraft of the Age of Flight..
Just the name invokes symbolism of high order.
Hey I need to get an mp3 of this. Geek heaven during a long drive!
Copy it's link then convert it to mp3
I like your video very much. It's really great. I'll keep an eye on your channel. I am your fan and I will support you.
Nice
aircraft are still used because they can be deployed anywhere much faster. Satellites have to be reprogrammed, and there is a waiting period.
Was there a B-model A-12 for training purposes, or is that an SR second to front? Or, is the B-model something in between? I searched but came up ambiguous.
Look up the "Titanium Goose". It was the only trainer version that had the raised and slightly off center 2nd cockpit. The trainer never got its J58's therefore was slower as it kept the older J75 engines.
Yes you can see it in the group photo. I believe it was number 123.
It's the second one in.
Lockheed helped us design the U2?
Yes they did. First flight Was in 1955!!!
I'd love to see Elon pull one of these out of mothballs & use it for fun. Fuel can be made.10k other problems but he's resourceful.
มันก็อย่างว่านะช่วงนี้เวลากำลังดีกำลังเป็นข่าวจะดีจะชั่วขอตังค์ไว้ก่อน
