I took in a poor starved and blind mini dachshund. I had several cats and a BIG dog. It only took each of them a day or so to figure out the new little one was blind. Dachshund thought herself the great cat catcher, and maybe she was when she was young, but the cats would meow at her from one side, then dart away to the other side and laugh at her as she sniffed and charged in the wrong direction looking for the cat. The big dog would actually move his feet out of the little one's way while laying stretched out on the floor so she wouldn't trip.

She really just didn't know what to think at that point! 😂 And instead of choosing full on aggression she just removed herself from the situation, this shows as well that she isn't entirely sure. But knows that Shadow isn't a threat or obstacle, if he TRULY bothered her she would be smacking him around and making a LOT of noise. That is a really good tempered cat
@Nefertiti yeah but trisket is also not looking back at shadow when she is moving away, pretty sure cats would not completely expose their backs without watching the possible threat.
@Nefertiti I think hiding or running as fast as possible are the natural behaviors, not tiptoeing out in the open. Stalking too, but only when they're hunting. Triscuit seems to have made the inference that she's effectively hidden from him, whether because she realized Shadow has no eyes or because she realized he doesn't seem to be behaving as though he sees her.
So, when have you ever seen a blind cat or dog, especially one with a cone around its' neck, successfully chase after another fellow animal, while at the same time, avoid running into anything (i.e. walls, furniture, etc) 🤔🤔😑 I'm thinking about how agile & skillful cats are. The other cat can run & hide. Shadow's condition will slow him down a bit, which helps the other one get away faster, & off his trail.
This reminded me of a short film I saw recently of a street performer painted as a bronze statue stuck in a zombie outbreak would slowly move away to get away from them
This is hilarious to me, the way she sloooooowly inches away from little shadow! It's so cute, and amazing to see, because they get along so well nowadays! Happy to be able to follow their story!
It looks like a JoJo battle. "He doesn't know where I am, but still follows my moves..." "He didn't follow this one, what's his ability?" "HE'S BLIND, IF I MAKE ANY NOISE I'LL GET KILLED"
Triscuit was 'waking on eggshells' until proper boundaries got set.....a great picture of establishing healthy relationships as you've mentioned'they are NOW best friend's!!! I love it...Thank you!
@Peaches & Cream It actually is "taken" since if you say "its taken" then it fits perfectly since taken is past tense and has already happened. But took works too since it is also past tense 😊
We watched this before we had our blind siblings and I was somewhat doubtful. I'm glad we did bc we see them "hide" from each other all the time when they suddenly freeze. It only works for a moment until the other one smells that they're there but I think of your video every time!
knowing it will all end well between them, it's easy to say this is one of the funniest moments ever caught on camera, otherwise it would look like an extra from the Quiet place.
Actually, this tiptoeing action is normal when cats are afraid of something regardless of the adversary being blind or not. My cats do that everytime they encounter something they dont like. They basically choose to run away if they realize that a fight is not gonna happen. So, slow movement is less likely to provoke the adversary into reacting.
True but I do think this is different. What they mostly do when they walk away is looking in the direction of the cat, but not looking it in the face and trisquit doesn't even look back. Also het body posture is different than usual so I think she kinda knows that shadows weak point is his eyesight.
I've seen this a lot. Wary retreating from an unfamiliar cat in an uncertain situation. Not wanting to trigger a reaction, but being ready to react in an instant. Making eye contact can be a trigger. 🐈
I loved it when Shadow flicked their tail around 2:14 and Triscuit immediately checked turned its head head to make sure they weren’t caught. Triscuit: (Let ... me .... just... leave....) Shadow: [moves tail] Triscuit: hm! [Checks] Shadow: .... you still there? Triscuit: (not anymore I’m not...)
it's pretty obvious she's just trying not to make noise so shadow didn't hear her, if you still think it was just because tHeY aLwAyS dO tHAT then you're an idiot
キラメレックス Wouldn’t it be reasonable to assume neither that the cat understands deafness or that it’s acting normally as if shadow were any normal cat and just say we don’t know why the cat was doing it?
That is amazing! As a new (Rosa-based) follower who may or may not have since gone through your entire IG history, this is so incredible to see. Triscuit learned so quickly!
my thought is Triscuit thinks she's getting attacked when she moves, her idea was to move slowly so she wouldn't get attacked. (even though shadow isn't actually attacking).
She actually copied him. She noticed that shadow didn't realize he left. Thats why she keep looking at the phone to confirm the theory. If you never had a innovative cat. You wouldn't know cats watch and learn from there owners. Notices she didn't look back at shadow.

@@lindaferguson985 Obviously cats use their sight. I was just saying that the role of sight in social interactions isn't crucial. They have other ways that they can know those close to them. Not seeing someone if you're a cat is different from not seeing someone if you're a human.

How do you train a blind dog to go to the bathroom?

She really just didn't know what to think at that point! 😂 And instead of choosing full on aggression she just removed herself from the situation, this shows as well that she isn't entirely sure. But knows that Shadow isn't a threat or obstacle, if he TRULY bothered her she would be smacking him around and making a LOT of noise. That is a really good tempered cat
proof animals dont do everything off instinct and they do have a concious mind
Theory of mind!

Oml it sounds like a horror movie
So, when have you ever seen a blind cat or dog, especially one with a cone around its' neck, successfully chase after another fellow animal, while at the same time, avoid running into anything (i.e. walls, furniture, etc) 🤔🤔😑 I'm thinking about how agile & skillful cats are. The other cat can run & hide. Shadow's condition will slow him down a bit, which helps the other one get away faster, & off his trail.
This reminded me of a short film I saw recently of a street performer painted as a bronze statue stuck in a zombie outbreak would slowly move away to get away from them

We watched this before we had our blind siblings and I was somewhat doubtful. I'm glad we did bc we see them "hide" from each other all the time when they suddenly freeze. It only works for a moment until the other one smells that they're there but I think of your video every time!

This is so cute I’ve never seen a cat tiptoe that much 😂❤️
2:12
Shadow: *moves tail *
Triscuit: "he's onto me OwO..."
Actually, this tiptoeing action is normal when cats are afraid of something regardless of the adversary being blind or not. My cats do that everytime they encounter something they dont like. They basically choose to run away if they realize that a fight is not gonna happen. So, slow movement is less likely to provoke the adversary into reacting.
well mine never does that he just gets poofy and bolts the hell out of there which i'd expect most cats do as they can be very fast
Well, that was nice to know.
My cats have never tip toed away, but I think they are very smart!! Glad to see they are compensating for the sight loss.😁
