  • Elon Musk unveiled the original "Tesla Master Plan" in 2006, outlining a strategic vision for Tesla Motors in four key steps: starting with a sports car to fund development of more affordable vehicles, followed by leveraging those revenues to create even more accessible electric cars. Concurrently, Tesla aimed to offer zero-emission energy solutions. Despite challenges, Tesla achieved these milestones with the Roadster, Model S, and Model 3.
In 2016, Musk introduced "Tesla Master Plan Part 2" as Tesla began delivering the Model 3 and acquiring SolarCity, which aligned with the original plan's final steps. Part 2 emphasized integrating energy storage with renewable generation via Tesla Energy, and introducing innovations like the solar roof. It also prioritized advancing self-driving capabilities and expanding the vehicle lineup across key segments.
Musk's vision culminated in a succinct summary:
Create solar roofs with integrated battery storage.
Expand the electric vehicle range to cover major market segments.
Develop a self-driving system 10 times safer than manual driving through fleet learning.
Enable vehicles to generate income when not in use.
Tesla subsequently unveiled and progressed towards producing all vehicles mentioned in the plan: the Cybertruck, Model Y, and Tesla Semi, while efforts towards high-density urban transport remain speculative.
