Thanks for showing how to time the motor in detail. Got a 220 cheap cause it wouldn’t run. Was popping through intake when cranking. Found out of time, reset tensioner and now it runs great

Thank I'm goin to order new chain an new tenchener and guids I can get the whole set for $68 my tenchener slides in easy it barley's tightens the chain it's still lose
Someone just gave me a 1990 bayou. They said the timing is off. The crank house doesn't have the notch where the plug goes. Same concept? Cause it has almost no compression and looks all lined up
Just put new carb in, fired right up reved few times died... checked valves adjusted, timed it correctly top dead center.. tried to pull start it and that fucker didnt move but i sure as hell did yanked the cord handle off !! Idk wont do nothin now smfh
I have 2 lines. 1 with a "T" and 1 by itself. Do i need to line up the notch in the middle of the 2 lines, or just the line with the "T" ? Excellent videos man! Thank you thank you!
If i set the timing correctly the valves hit the top of the piston but if i put the camshaft timing off a couple links the piston actually clears the valves like normal, im thinking chain is stretched and valves should prolly be replaced but what would cause this, bad camshaft perhaps im at a loss?
@@rolandsgarage8640 after further inspection i found the woodruff key was sheared off the flywheel so timing was all messed up, i put in new key and she runs again but theres an obnoxious grinding noise coming from the bottom end only when using the starter motor im thinking its the one way bearing starting to wear out any ideas?
So I have a 250 bayou and it’s leaking oil out the manifold what would it be and lost compression? And what is the difference between 220 and 250 bayou piston and rings
It's gonna need new rings at a minimum. I'm pretty sure the piston and rings are the rings are the same. The difference in the crankshaft stroke. Once you have it apart you need to mic the cylinder and make sure it doesn't need to be bored out.
@@rolandsgarage8640 I checked everything and finally I checked the throttle cable itself and learned that it was the wrong throttle cable and it wasn't allowing the slide to close all the way
I've seen videos saying it must be on compression stroke. Even showed how to determine compression stroke. Tho that was on Yamaha timberwolf 250 engine
Is it possible for the timing chain to come off on the bottom? The timing chain and cam don’t spin when starting but the pull lever part spin properly during start
@@rolandsgarage8640 it doesn’t turn with either, I’m thinking the tension is loose on the chain. I can’t see down in the head, but would it be possible for the chain to fall off the bottom sprocket?
@@Jonbrug there is a little half moon thing under that gear that will keep the chain in the gear. It's completely possible for that to happen tho.... is there alot of slack in the chain? You can take the tensioner off and use a long 1/4in extension to push in on the tensioner guide. The best thing to do honestly would be to pull the side cover off and see exactly what's going on
I tightened the tensioner and the chain is definitely on the bottom sprocket. I ran my a 1/4 extension in the tensioner guide and when I spin the sprocket the guide loosens and the chain loses grip on the bottom sprocket so it isn’t keeping its grip even when the timing is aligned on both and tensioner fully extended and tightened

Just make sure the bore on the cylinder is still within specs and hone it before reinstall.

What did you hone the cylinder to? And why didn’t you change the piston if you honed it. Wouldn’t the honing cause it to be a bigger bore ?

That's good info.
Perhaps the spring on the starter is not disengaging the teeth
Or like you said there's a bearing bad in the starter motor itself

If it’s a Chinese carb that could be the problem. I would also check the intake boot for cracks

No not on a 4 stroke motor it cant.

Of you think about it both valves are shut so it is the compression stroke.
On a four-cylinder you can be out 180°because one cylinder is on his exhaust stroke while the other cylinder is on a powerstroke.
Aye my 94 cleaned carb now hard to pull start and it literally idles high and goes by itself .. any suggestions ???

@@Jonbrug ok that chain is just super stretched then. Time for a new one.... you can replace the chain without taking the top end apart.
