  • Kingroon KP5L is the biggest 3D printer from this manufacturer. The print volume is 300x300x330mm. After very positive experience with smallest Kingroon 3D printer (KP3S), I was very curious how this big boy performs.

    Solid review as usual, and atleast you received the updated model. They've been sending out their old model while advertising their updated version (runout sensor mount, belt tensioners on x and y, etc). You are right though, the wiring is junk, but if you shorten up the tubing and zip tie the tubing and wiring together it works better. Also they have it setup to easily add auto bed leveling, yet it was a ten dollar update they chose not to do. Also I switched mine to marlin and it was a huge improvement over their poor firmware. But do not update the firmware from their website as the x axis will run backwards if you do. Easy enough to fix if you know what you're doing, but why won't they fix it after numerous complaints. A few things I'd add to this review is how narrow the base is front to back that leads to instability when printing large and at high speeds (point of linear rails, speed and precision). It also puts the power switch in a bad location if you have an incident and need to kill the power in a hurry. You'll have to reach under the bed towards the middle all while things are moving, not well thought out. But this is a great box of parts if you wanna build something, but there are so many better printers out there for close to the same price. I will say that I'm looking forward to a review of the KP3S pro with the Y-axis upgrade, I really think that will be the printer to beat for the size and value. I would of bought one already, but I'm just a little bitter towards Kingroon after buying two of the KP5L's.

      Thanks for detailed comment and experience sharing. Yes, looks like the KP3S Pro+Y linear rail is their best product, if the size is enough.

      I also bought 2 Kingroon KP5L and they've been collecting dust. How do I fix the X-Axis issue?
      As you mentioned Kingroon has not fixed the firmware for over a year.
      I switched to Elegoo, and I'm hoping Bambu Lab will release an XL printer soon! 🤞

    • @radical3d
      @radical3d 6 месяцев назад

      @@THOR_THE_GOD So I haven't looked at their firmware in a while, but I remember there being a text file with the firmware. You go into the text file and invert the info for the x axis, likely if it says true change it to false or false to true, then save. That should fix it, but I'd strongly suggest searching for a version of Marlin that was compiled for the Kp5l. Or you could pick up a speeder pad or equivalent and convert them both to klipper. Its on my to do list, but haven't had the time or the need with the Bambu's running. Hopefully Bambu stops going backwards and makes a XL core xy soon, but the rate they're going, we'll probably see resin next.

    Thanks for another great review! 😀😁
    I think you've mentioned what you think is the best beginner printer in one of your earlier video. Could you maybe take into account all your printers and do a video on what you think is the best value printer for someone who is fairly experienced at 3d printing (someone who might already own an Ender 3v2, or Anycubic Mega S, AND has already built their own Voron)? What printer with okay print quality can someone purchase and then upgrade to excellent print quality with some hard work? Might be an easier video to do because you wouldn't have to print, take measurements, etc.
    Thanks!

    • @MyTechFun
      @MyTechFun  Год назад

      Slicing of Benchy was standard 0.2mm profile. Centering I explained in my Elegoo Neptune 3 PLUS video. Just two lines in start gcode.

    Received last monday, I'm going to modify...
    I didn't use the stock firmware, I had Err1 at fist heating. Compiled Marlin 2.1.x bugfix.
    Designed and printed two bars to align the gantry, but it really needs a sync belt. Ordered two lead screws of 450mm and a sync belt of 800 and 810mm (just to be sure I don't go short) and some pulleys.
    The PSU fan can be changed with the same of the motherboard (very silent) or putting a mini DC-DC step down buck to reduce it's voltage to near 10-12v. It's impossible to put Oldham coupler to the gantry, I can put an elastic or Oldham coupler between stepper and lead screw.
    With 3D touch a syncronized dual Z and a bit of tuning this printer has a huge potential.

      @@justincase3230 I modified massively this printer with Z sync belt, reinforced gantry and bi-metal V6 hotend. Also I compiled new Marlin to reach 290° and I'm copiling a version for 350°C.

      With the z sync, bit ghetto but if I mark the screws and the baseplate when it's all set right I could just use that as a reference to turn the screws back to if they've moved while it's off yeah? Definitely gonna add a timing belt at some point but that's what I'll do in the meantime.

    I've been running my KP5L hard for about 3 months. Pushed at least a dozen spools of filament through its extruder.
    The cable management issue is indicative of the company as a whole.
    Basically, Kingroon seems to be one or two stellar engineers surrounded by a bunch of lazy idiots. Fundamentally, if you know what you're doing, you can get flawless prints out of this machine. At its core, it's well engineered.
    However, firmware management is attrocious. The printer has so many silly, stupid bugs. The filament feed path is idiotic. It goes through fans like cheetoes.
    But worst of all, their sales / support people are textbook examples of what not to do in business. I've got *three* orders open with kingroon.com right now. The first was sent 42 days ago. The second a couple weeks, and the third last week. Parts to keep my KP5L running. After 3 weeks of no movement I emailed them to cancel the first order (found some parts locally) and instead they ignored me and shipped 3 of the ~10 items. Then, no contact. After I placed my third order (for a KP3S Pro S1) and emailed them again about no progress, they had the *nerve* to tell me they wanted an additional $77 for shipping on an already closed, completed sales contract.
    I told them to cancel all of my orders and refund my money, and they went radio silence. Expecting to have to have Mastercard issue a chargeback.
    Anyway, it's a real shame because at least some people Kingroon seem to know what they're doing. Hope they fire the idiots, though.

    Many people including me cannot level the bed. There is a 'nipple' in the center that the glass bed will spin on!.. I cannot recommend, indeed I would actively discourage anyone buying this printer. After sales is non existent. I am prepared to change my mind if I am contacted by Kingroon, but mine is a lemon.

  • @MisterkeTube
    @MisterkeTube Год назад +1

    Honestly, how can you call it a great printer in 2023 when it has no way of synchronizing or automatically levelling both z screws, when it has a bed of a size that really mandates auto-bed-leveling but doesn't have a probe, when it still has a PTFE-lined hotend and one with failure actually designed into it with the "gap by design"? The stupid thing is that solving those would probably cost them a few dollars at most. A second z stepper and Klicky type of probe for the first two (with suitable firmware changes of course) and a simple full-metal (steel, doesn't have to be bimetallic) heat-break would fix them all and make this thing so much better out of the box ... After the KP3S I had hoped this company had the right ideas, but it seems the KP3S might just have been a lucky guess rather than well thought-through...

      It's a perfect and cheap base for an expert user who wants a printer for his needings and wants to customize. Titan + E3D V6 prints well is cheap and has exterminated world of accessories. No POM pulleys, Marlin and Klipper options, enugh space inside for a Raspberry Pi. It's perfect for a custom, build.

    Why would anyone buy this vs any of the Neptune 3 Pro or its derivatives? Those have auto bed levelling, fixed beds, direct drive, run out sensors in sensical places, etc etc.
    This thing seems poorly conceived and its like they havent evolved past the price point of the KP3S Pro so I dont know why I would advise anyone to go with this at its price point.

    • @tdogjack

      because for some people half the fun of 3d printing is tinkering and upgrading there machines. and this machine has the potential to be better that the Neptune 3 pro line with the linear rails and all.

    • @BeefIngot
      @BeefIngot Год назад +2

      @@tdogjack If your fun is tinkering, you build a voron. This is just getting a bad experience then wasting your own time making it less bad.
      The market of people who actually want that is exceedingly low.
      Many who think thats what they want simply arent aware of the options out there that are better out of the box.
