How can a sinful, mortal, and finite being contribute to their salvation alongside a sinless, immortal, and infinite being?
If they can contribute, does this mean that the future is not fixed and is dependent on human beings before God can determine it?
If yes, how is that squared with God's absolute sovereignty?

Man is *not* "contributing to their salvation"; we are responding to what God has done, based on the condition & promise He has, in His absolute sovereignty, determined: if you repent & believe, you will be saved.
Now when you ask "how is that squared with God's absolute sovereignty?", what passage do you have in mind? God is the one who has determined the condition and made the promise. As AW Tozer once said "God sovereignly decreed that man should be free to exercise moral choice ... If in His absolute freedom God has willed to give man limited freedom, who is there to stay His hand or say, 'What doest thou?'"
