- Video taken in the western eyewall of Cat 5 Hurricane Michael as it slammed Panama City Beach with extreme wind. We positioned ourselves safely in a parking garage and watched as the historic Category 5 storm unfolded around us.
Wow! Seeing this again makes my heart skip a beat. I was in a small bathroom with my children as this storm DEMOLISHED my home & hometown of 46 years. There are no words to describe THIS experience! We are all living miracles… we weathered the beast… Hurricane Michael! 🥺
Omg! So happy you and your children made it out safe 💞!
I’m so glad you are ok!, much of my family was displaced but kept on working. My son also works for BCSO. I watched the struggle. Some of my friends are still trying to get things worked out. 2 of my kids and much and a brother are there the rest of my family is close by. I visit a lot. My daughter just moved from the beach to Lynn Haven, my brother is there too. Every time I go down 390 I can’t even orient things look so different. Glad you and your babies are ok. My brother stayed I. His home in North Shore and they really thought they were going to lose their lives. It blew the bricks off their house. I can’t imagine what you all went through.
@@mariawallace1381 thank you for those kind words. Yes, many people are still struggling there. I pray that those who still need help can get it to rebuild.

We had a condo in Panama City Beach, I remember when I was little back in 2004, Ivan came through. We decided not to leave and stay in the condo since it was hurricane proof instead of getting stuck in evacuation traffic during a Cat 5. The most eerie thing about being stuck in that was that the wind was so strong. It forced its way inside of the building and you could hear it in the hallways, the most eerie sound to this day.
Ay, fellow/former resident of the shithole, if your not there anymore, that's good, hurricane Michael tore the city up and it went down hill real quick, trying to find a affordable place didn't exist, almost every insurance company left and ran with the money or just went bank rupt, thousands got scammed out of their money (my family was apart of the scammed) and quite a bit of the money meant to fix our city was embezzled away.

The leaves on a palm tree after what looked like they survived a hurricane are actually most likely very damaged. That will have an affect on the growing point of the palm tree meaning it will slowly die if not treated. Also as seen in the video, the leaves are quite tattered and ripped so they will probably get chopped down

Videos of the worst damaged area months after Hurricane Michael show that the majority of the palm trees underwent tremendous stress from both the wind and the storm surge, but remained standing and alive even when every structure around them was wiped out. That really impressed me.
That’s why they grow along the coast I guess
These palms are native to this area and have evolved to be able to withstand hurricanes.

I see trailer parks here in Florida & think "Who would ever want to live in one of those in a hurricane state?"
Bill Graper I’m from Florida and I don’t know 🤷♀️
I’m a routine summertime visitor of the Orlando area, grandparents, sister, and aunt, uncle, and cousin lived there, and I have seen some pretty well kept mobile homes in and around that area, compared to the tweaker encampments that are most trailer parks here in Texas, makes me think it’s more about the lifestyle and climate and finding a way to be near the beaches in a state that’s a major tourist destination even if there are a few risks. Obviously in CA, we know a lot of people beach-bum and sleep out on the beach at night, and with the seismic activity there, there has to be a risk of Tsunamis and rarely, typhoons, but at least with hurricanes, you have weeks in advance to prepare/evacuate if you live in the effected area.
I like Hurricanes.
I hate when loss of life happens though
My dad lmao
Yeah but I see a lot of mobile homes that are 30 40 50 years old that are still here so you got to think they've been through a couple of Category 3 5 hurricanes and still standing
SO grateful that my family/friends/loved one's are all fortunate enough to still be alive through this!! Although it's the scariest/saddest thing I've been through in awhile I'm thankful to have these videos & photos to go back & reminisce about years after we rebuild & recreate a new home & beautiful memories.

No need to bother... The hurricane itself will take care of that for ya!

Palm trees: where did all the houses go?
0:43 rip to whoever was in that house
If they were smart, they evacuated well in advance of the storm. I have heard there were a number of people who refused to leave. #1 killer of hurricanes is storm surge, followed injury or death from debris and downed power lines. It didn't help that many areas this storm hit were stick built. Central Florida and all of Southern Florida is CB construction. Many lives and homes would have survived had the panhandle adhered to Miami Dade building codes.
Rode this out inside my house, scary times man
thank God,you are alive.i am happy for that!
Mother natures like what happened guys? It’s a perfectly nice day...
Nearly every hurricane spawns tornados, yet we never think of them together. We think of them as always being separate things. Why is that? Sure Tornados don't need a hurricane to form, but on top of hurricane force winds, you also throw in tornadic winds?! That's nuts.

Meanwhile in the UK people are having a meltdown over a few 60 to 70mph winds. Perspective needed. My heart goes out to all those affected over there.
The Dummyblondes I lived by the sea for years in Scotland, those winds are more than a few and they are called gales for a reason....you are comparing a natural phenomenon with a man made one to boot! Perspective inclusive of research speaking here.
@@paulinekelly3966 Paulinebin fairness Scotland has its fair share of gales that can reach 80 to 100 mph each year so I don't really include that. Indeed my husband is based up there with the Navy and has experienced th first hand. What I'm referring to is the rest of the country, I live on the South West Coast and the press and people get almost hysterical about very mediocre weather in comparison.
Please don't tell me you're calling hurricanes man made....please please please don't be that thick
Storm Callum wasn't that bad. I was affected by it aswell.
The Dummyblondes think it's all a matter of perspective and preparedness. Portugal just got hit by Hurricane Leslie that downgraded to tropical storm as it made landfall, winds reached 175km/h (100mph+) and it sure felt like the end of the world - so I can't even begin to imagine what a Category 4 would be. I also remember being caught by storm Gertrude a couple of years ago in NW Scotland (Ullapool) and it felt worse than Leslie, and for much longer

no, they just dont have any branches that wind can push onto and bend the them, its called aerodynamics babe....
Leina Montgomery That is the smartest thing I have heard all week!!! 👍
Trees with lots of foliage and branches can snap or be uprooted, but that depends on how strong/weak the roots are. A bending palm absorbs energy. Some native species in hurricane prone areas will shed foliage quickly to reduce resistance.

Interesting stuff.
Solid construction costs too much.
They should invest in houses made of stone. We had the hurricane Leslie here in Portugal, not with same intensity of Michael hurricane but absolutely all the houses are made of stone. Only trees and some posts fall.
