I still want Greg to have an epic quest to get Greta back. Only in the end, he doesn't get his wife back. Instead, he just has memories correctly wiped. In next episode, the new Greta, (now)green bean farmer, is added but retains some of her repressed "garlic" love while, unfortunately, Greg remains oblivious. Hijinks abound as she tries to get him to remember, but his intense dislike of green beans continues to foil her advances. Ending with Greg giving a too harsh rejection. Next, due to a failed update, the older version of Gregs memories are returned, but his previous too harsh rejection (and his intense hatred of green beans) make him slow to approach her but (perhaps after lookinhg at painting) his initial hesitance is overcome and he musters the courage only find her at a picnic with Bodger. Crushed by his picnic findings, Greg descends into depression. Finally, having given up hope, greg is given a quest requiring players to escort him. Enter the "Lore" Player. Lore is doing a deep dive of Honeywood and knows for a brief time between patches Greg and Gretta were married. Trying to find an Easter egg Lore takes Greg to Gretta's hut. Despite nothing seeming to be happening between the NPCs Lore uncovers a hidden room with nothing. Annoyed at the lack of real payoff Lore quits the escort quest but not before we (and Greg) see the inside of the room is nothing but multiple stickman paintings.
8:53 in the patch notes it says "spiders made more visible so puppies dont get killed accidentally" that was the plot from a different skit they did, they add so many little details to this series.
Over and over I get impressed with how good actors the cast are. Like, check out Alan's expressions immediately when Greg meets Greta: There's the big emotions of surprise and bewilderment, sure, but he also immediately brings in those hints of interest, enthusiasm and attraction, which can then grow as the story progresses. Works so well.
Completely agree! They are excellent. And (not to SIMP, but) Brit really seems to have some wonderful "on screen charm" along with her excellent facial acting. (I was going to say, "On screen CHARISMA", but since this is about gaming, that seemed a bit too obvious.)
The intention to detail is incredible. In the bug fixes when Greta is removed (8:50), we can see various references to previous sketches. Defeating the lord with charisma has been fixed, muggers won't keep mugging eachother. Child mode now doesn't disturb the NPCs. You can't take the minigun out of the arena. Exactly those things were part of sketches in other videos. Amazing!
The bit about preserving the NPCs' mental health cracked me up especially because, as you said, in the same patch notes, they *warped his wife and child out of existence* while making sure that he still remembered them.
@ReallyKeepingFictional My head cannon is that the devs are probably aware Greg and several other NPCS are semi sentient, so they are experimenting on them
Thankfully, it gets easier. Petty theft here, assault there, and before you know it, you're knowingly supporting a regime that condones child rape and genocide Play Skyrim: Beyond Reach mod if you want to try that last one
As I previously said for the first part, it's Rowan who's the real bad guy here, manipulating Ben into doing evil things and laughing at it without a care.
Rowan is just classically Lawful Evil here sure he might suggest evil deeds that Ben should do but it is Ben who is committing them so Rowan is in the clear.
The joy was in seeing the discomfort his friend felt by screwing over the NPCs. That's why he has the grin the whole time, he *said* it was harder than you'd think...
Don't listen to the merchant... he isn't broke.. I once saw him spend a couple hundred thousand in gold on an adventurer then turned around and sold 1 apple for only 1 copper! He's a scammer!
I've seen that fruit merchant scare away muggers. I've seen him chase an adventurer out of town. I've seen him smite another adventurer into a puff of red mist with a single mighty swing of his unbelievably huge sword.
I beg to differ because I've already seen all of these while I'm never complaining because I love vldl too much to care it'd be nice to have something new
The wife one should become a saga where Greg becomes more self aware and he sneaks tiny bits in the quests he gives in order to get information about the developer's world
You misspelled Bodger's wife. You know it to be true. Baraduun just laid out the facts he is ugly, wired and unlovable, why do you think his sheep keeps on trying to escape to a better life ?
It's so hard to be the bad guy! I always say I want to do an evil run, but I just care too much about people, even fictional people, lol. Oh, my God, the merchant couple saga is everything to me! I love their dynamic so much! It's so freaking good! I would like to see more of them.
Let's admit it, THIS is the best series by VLDL. Yes, I enjoy all their content, but this is the one that made me subscribe and keeps me "warm on those cold winter nights" if you know what I mean ;)
The upgrades list for the wife sketch are incredible, chock full of fun easter eggs, here are a few -Spiders made larger so people don't accidentally kill puppies -Mugger NPC loop glitch fixed -Child safe mode now presents to npcs the same way as it does to players for their mental health And many more, I love this attention to detail VLDL whoever does it, thank you, sincerely
Ben is me whenever I try to do anything evil related in games. No matter how much I want to try changing things up, I usually feel terrible right afterwards.😂
Imagine the server maintenance staff vs the growing npc sentience as a whole mini movie. Greta gets rescued from "buried code" etc. No shame riffing on popular scifi movies throughout.
That Greta one is still such a bummer...to give Greg a wife like that and then take her away is just overly cruel - that had to have been Baradun's idea 😆 But the other fixes in the patch were damn funny...although "fixing" it so the minigun can no longer be removed from the arena is also overly cruel!!! There was no problem to fix on that one!!
The entire cast does a good job at being the bad guy/villain, but my absolute favorite is Fred. When he's evil, when he's incompetent, or when he's just downright annoyed, dude is cracking me up! MORE FRED PLEASE!
Watching the skit about Ben trying to be a villain again it becomes clear that Rowan is very expirienced at being the bad guy. ^^ he constantly gives him advise while telling him he's not up for the task. Love how well those two work with each other.

I may have commented this when the "playing the bad guy" skit originally dropped but I literally got sweaty palms from anxiety doing Raider stuff to the settlements when I first played the Nuka-World DLC in Fallout 4. Even playing RDR2 I couldn't do unscripted outlaw stuff without feeling anxious, no matter how much I tell myself it's just a game.
The maintenance one and the scripted loss is pretty relatable. But the best part about maintenance is, the apologems that we the players get after we installed the updates on google play and in-game. For both FGO Masters and Azur Lane Shikikans we get to start rolling in the gacha pool for our Fate waifus and Azur Lane new shipgirls.
8:50 "We messed up giving Greg happiness, so we're gonna take it away" Thats just mean, Greg deserves happiness, and they didn't even erase his memory of his wife.
Greg being disappointed is still a heavy blow of emotion damage
Did I just hear Steven He in the distance?
It honestly hurts more than anything else
That was a hard one to watch.
Imma instant reload my game if that happens

Greg should get a quest to get Greta back. Like Baelin's route

That is a great idea!

14:30 just noticed how the players in the background walk/run. XD so good.
The "Bad Guy" sketch is so good, and Greg's Wife was such a sad chapter. But the patch notes at the end are good :)
Love the dichotomy of the fantasy "evil is hard" vs the red dead "good is hard".
Greg losing his wife is the most saddest in the epic npc man series 😔

For needing to get the painting to town by sundown, Ben and Rowan sure burned a lot of daylight arguing about broken physics.
The part where the couple is fighting reminds me of me and my ex fighting in front of the plumber about who's hair clogged the drain.

When Fred is arguing with Freda, he says “I’ll be the one laughing when I’m on a big adventurer…” (probably getting revenge for the blacksmith)
In the fruit merchant skit, I thought that the actress was Lucy Lawless for half a second. Haha. Sounds quite a bit like her.
