Every time you do a Zappa reaction, you try to describe what makes him great. And every one of those descriptions is part of why we all love Zappa so much! Another great one Rory!

Two tracks from the album Zoot Allures who included each in the other on the album, yes it's Terry Bozzio on drums on Friendly little finger and on Wonderful Wino, on the drone bass ;Roy Estrada and Ruth Underwood marimba and synth and Zappa play various guitars... You've also got some brass at the end... On Wonderful Wino Zappa Is on guitar, bass, keyboard and vocals obviously ...
I promise you many more crazy or shocking wonders of pure beauty... many more surprises!!!!
    Thank you for your reaction!!!

Bozzio was good, but Joe's Garage with VINNIE is the balls!

Facts of Frank's popularity rose after he abandoned the more jazz fusion style of George Duke, and moved towards a more mainstream Pop,hard rock,, heavy metal style, his popularity exploded, only to decline fast when he hired the mid 78 band with a drummer drumming fanatics simply refer to as " vinnie". Unfortunately he had a sudden drop in record sales, concert attendance, etc, forced to cancel the second half tours of 79.Then totally changing most of his band members, not renewing their contracts, after just a year and a half, then adding Steve Vai,Logeman then Wackerman, etc.

@@Royale_with_CheezeNot any intention of disagreeing with you,but 78-80 was a variation of Zappas prime era 75-early 78, utilizing more aberrated polyrhthmic air sculpturing solos, and more polyrhythmic drumming, but not better for his style. Aside from drumming fanatics,it was not as desirable to the elite Zappa fanatics and your down to earth regular pop fans,as the earlier 75-early 78 era was. However, after 1982,Frank basically did nothing new except some variations adding a little jazzy style mixed in for the final Broadway the hard way tour. Nothing really new since early 78. Hammersmith concert Feb 78,was his culmination in popularity and all styles he ever created including the birth of his longer guitar soloing.

I don't think I have seen anyone react to Man from Utopia. Lots of great tunes on that one. Like "Man from Utopia meets Mary-Loo"....

If you like Zappa's guitar work. Check out "Easy Meat" off the "You Are What You Is" album (I think), and "Pink Napkins" off the Shut Up and Play Your Guitar" album. I like Zappa more for his compositions, but for guitar, I think these two are the best. I also recommend "Ms. Pinky" off the Zoot Alors" album. It's hysterical and the solo perfectly--absolutely perfectly--fits the theme of the song.
I really enjoy your comments. Even though you're not the smoothest of commentators--at times you are at a loss for words--you are obviously very sharp--you get it--and I do enjoy your reactions very much. And I always look forward to seeing your reactions to Zappa, Tom Waits, Captain Beefheart, and Hendrix. These guys are four of my top 6 or 7 favorites. The others are Alice Cooper. He's as funny or funnier than Frank, and The Ranones. They kick ass, and they also got a pretty good sense of humor.
There is one more band that has done it for me like Frank and Alice and the others. And this band comes from your neck of the woods. I must have bought over 20 of their cassettes and CD's. I'm talking about Mark E Smith and "The Fall." They come from Manchester, and you probably know them. And even if you don't, I'd love to hear your take on some of their songs. I think they're as brilliant as anyone on my top list, except maybe for Hendrix, who I place in a league by himself. A Fall song you could start with is "Kurious Oranj," or "The Big New Prinz," or "No Bulbs," or "Free Range." "Bonkers in Phoenix" is one of the greatest tracks I've ever heard from not only The Fall, but from anybody!

I've enjoyed many of your Zappa reactions. You are sort of a kindred spirit in that way. I've also wondered what his body of work would have been like if it didn't have the silliness and sometimes juvenile sexual humor. If he lived longer perhaps we would have found out.

Frank understood that the music you listened to when you are 15 years old is the music you'll love for the rest of your life. So he made a few adolescent sex jokes for adolescent males so they'd listen to the REAL stuff.. Most of his music had nothing to do with all of that.

Friendly, kinda like Frank's trying to kick Beefheart's ass. You should maybe get some King Crimson going. Starless, studio version is a good place to start if you got the time.

So often, Zappa would sabotage his best music so that it could not be mainstream. Example: he created a beautiful jazz instrumental and called it "I promise I won't come in your mouth" just so it couldn't get radio play.
