- It’s been a while since I’ve talked about Billy Corgan’s NWA and thats because well… I havent seen or heard from them in what feels like forever. And that’s because despite getting this new deal with the CW, the NWA are probably at their least relevant since Billy Corgan took over and thats thanks in part to losing the likes of Nick Aldis, Thunder Rosa, LA Knight, Kamille, Ricky Starks, Eddie Kingston and more, as well as their new deal with the CW and various other reasons. We’re going to look into all the reasons why and actually take a dive into what a current day NWA Powerr episode looks like. Lets discuss the National Wrestling Alliance!

The CW deal killed their International fanbase since the CW app is not available outside the US.
FACTS.
The problem wasn't the deal it was the drug spot at the last ppv that they did. The original cw deal was for TV but after that ppv the cw was ready to pull out which is why they made the deal with nxt. The nwa got lucky that they were able to keep any deal as ppv companies won't touch them now

The funny thing is NWA is exactly what you marks wanted, but of course it didn't make Corgan any money so now he's struggling with it. And you marks once again don't take the blame and continue to believe that Jim Cornette's booking is the ideal way even though it put companies out of business or near bankruptcy. The failure of NWA is more proof that you marks are killed the wrestling business.-

Covid was the beginning of the end. He (Billy) ultimately made the decision to not bring the brand back during the pandemic. Over time other companies returned. NJPW, TNA/IMPACT, MLW. The majority of their star power dipped elsewhere so when they came back it was never the same. Looking at all the current NWA makes me wonder in hindsight if TNA/IMPACT dodged a bullet because if you remember Billy wanted complete control of them at one point.

NWA are making some of their own stars with the likes of Kenzie Paige, Silas Mason & Odinson & Mims to name a few BUT they aren't growing them the way they should
Definitely agree honestly, it hasn’t been the same since Covid though I stopped watching them when they moved to CW I just preferred it on RUclips a lot better

Mims LOST his title to Max the Impaler, a WOMAN who was the female television champion and now unified both titles.
Mims isnt gonna be a star now after that, no one will ever take him seriously after he lost to Max and now has both the mens and womens division of the television title now fused together. Corgan went out of his way to make it seem like he was anti woke and even used Star Wars as an example of how he didn't want "the mob" to dictate his wrestling promotion and yet........he made every choice to make it seem like wokeism runs the NWA 😆
It makes no sense why Corgan would do something like this. Giving the belt to Tyrus, having Max win the male version of the television championship, having the cocaine spot on NWA Samhain, etc. Corgan fumbled the bag completely and I really felt bad for him back then with TNA. Now its making Dixie Carter look so smart for not allowing Corgan to buy out Impact

I was at All In when Cody beat Aldis for the title and it felt like a big deal.
The NWA has sort of turned into a meme. And it doesn't help they have the Adventures in Carnyland show coming up that will most likely make them look like jokes

Best Belt design out there IMO, but it doesn’t feel like it used to because the actual NWA title became the WCW title iirc
I used to love the NWA. I watched Powerrr every week from the first episode, and actually did order the PPVs as well because they were actually solid shows. I might have been the reason Joe Galli mentioned that their PPVs were being watched in Scotland.
I know a lot of people say they quit when Tyrus became World Champion. I think I actually tapped out before that.
Although they lost the likes of Ricky Starks, Zicky Dice, Eli Drake, etc, during the pandemic, they actually still got some really solid talent put together good cards.
But there was also a LOT of questionable booking decisions where that presentation of serious wrestling went right out the window. The culmination of which was probably the 'Social Distancing Match' where Taryn Terrell and Kenzie Paige had to stay six feet apart at all times while wearing face masks and gloves. And they were actually pretending to lock up, connect with punches and kicks, and take bumps for each other.
I know that was also one of the instances that Nick Aldis mentioned when he said he started to wonder how he would justify being involved with that to Harley Race. The other being Gags the Gimp.
I'm in Scotland too .... I've also watched since the first episode of powerrr. I've travelled over for a few ppvs too which despite all the grief they get, have always been a good time. I still watch, still podcast about it too. Wrestling is like ice cream, a flavour for everyone :)
It breaks my heart that all the progress that Tim Storm and Nick Aldis did with the ten pounds of gold to really embrace the sport of professional wrestling in the NWA…
AEW/WWE lowkey snagged a lot of their best talent
Just on EC3, it seems he rather be on OVW's tv and he is even the OVW national champion and part of the Revolution faction.

Well, EC3 owns an NWA Territory so it seems he has an investment in NWA.
That 2019 Powerrr start up was great, putting on some really great studio wrestling shows. Then Covid and down went the ship.

Nwa is hilarious though. They had the Crockett cup 3 months ago…they just showed the finale on the cw this week…even though the wrestlers have been talking about who won the day after theshow 3 MONTHS AGO! 😂😂. The cw app is awful btw. The women’s division look like crack head street walkers. Ec3 is still the champion oooof. The max girl is now the tv champion…ok. Nwa is just at a weird point it’s not going anywhere…yet 😂
I watch OVW every week on RUclips. It's a good show for a wrestling school. A lot of NWA wrestlers appear on OVW Rise. IMO the NWA has a long way to go before they are more than just a partner with a wrestling school.

Odds of wwe buying the nwa, probably for 2nd time, but don’t quote me. I just remember when they had nwa on wwf tv in mid 90s. Thoughts they had acquired there rights for small period of time when the company was on life support. Anyway I can see Tko/wwe snatching them up and making a developmental online wrestling show, or using maybe using cw s streaming rights? If that’s allowed?
The NWA has been a mess it should've stayed on RUclips. However I only watched the NWA only for Natalia Markova because she's the reason why everyone watches the NWA. She should've been the NWA women's champion she's one of the best wrestlers on that women's roster she could be a game changer for the WWE and their women's division
The NWA talents have been putting in a big league effort to have solid matches on each show. I haven't seen any recent matches that were meme level bad. They've got some GOOD talent... but they need a few "hot" talents to draw the viewers. I don't think the party is over... it's just not at a peak right now. The creative team in the first seasons was headed by Dave Lagana... and I think he had a great style going.... but he quit thanks to accusations. Marty Scurl was a BIG draw... until he was out of work because reasons. NWA had numerous misfortunes, and had to keep playing with what they had in the deck. Kenzie when she started with NWA vs. Now has been a massive improvement. I'm hoping some of their friendly promotions will have fresh quality talent....
I guess you must have missed the interview Fightful did with Billy Corgan where he said the executives at CW had no issue with the cocaine segment from Samhain, and that it was just a false report that it affected the TV deal.

the WWE is so hot right now and also 12 hours a week between the WWE and AEW is more than enough even to some diehard fans
NWA is just there overshadowed by everyone else unfortunately…when Power first came out it was exciting but because of everything lost steam and then talent when it came back…TNA is like that for me too and only started checking it out again because of the little buzz it’s getting with them working with NXT

Tony Khan is completely wasting Camille Brickhouse. Signed since January and not a single appearance? More and more this is proving to be nothing more than a signing to keep her away from WWE. You don't sign someone like her and NOT have immediate plans for her.
Colby Corino is definitely one of the biggest stand outs in NWA. I've always been a fan of his work since I first saw him and his dad Steve was great too.

I started watching right before Aldis left. I didn’t know they were not on RUclips. Their womens division hasn’t been good since Kamille and Taya Valkyrie left.
It's even WORSE than The Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior DVD, except at least Jim Warrior formerly James Brian Hellwig went to the WWE HOF and cut a promo with a UW mask before dying a completely true but castrated self in the eyes of the WWE Universe.
What started out as the "governing body for all wrestling territories" has shriveled down to minor league independent promotion.
Billy already has the Smashing Pumpkins. Does he really need to be the owner the NWA?
I started watching due to All In and was watching Power, even convinced my friends to watch the Hard Times PPV where Ricky Starks won the TV title (he was better used in NWA than he currently is in AEW).
The pandemic hurt them a lot. Billy couldn't afford to keep people like others could and when they came back, their roster was gutted. Billy has also made a lot of questionable booking choices since then too
I personally think Max the Impaler and Colby Corino made a mistake by signing an exclusive contract, because they are basically minimizing their earning potential.
They can still work elsewhere.... just not on tv
EC3 would be great back in NXT now with the roster they have.
Only things I can think Billy can do is sell it off or take it off the air and start again. Get it grounded somewhere. Build an audience and talent roster there and then start touring it. If it can get the numbers that way, he might be in with a chance at another TV or Steaming deal. It's not working in its current state.
EC3 is loyal to the NWA , his company Exodus Pro Midwest is a territory of the NWA. He is 100% dedaicated to the NWA .
The NWA was a wrestling staple for so long and it use to be one of the most prestigious things in wrestling to be NWA world champion. All the legends and the heritage who were there and if you grew up in the 70s and 80s and lived in certain parts of the country it might of been the only wrestling you saw on television. But it's been dead since the late 80s/early 90s if we're being honest and they've tried and tried to keep it alive but now with Corgan at the helm it's just turned into a complete joke to the point you'd rather they just end it or just be honest and realise what they are and just be a feeder company for the WWE/AEW etc.. but Corgan can't book and there's no effort put into the booking/production of the shows so it looks poor and second rate

Nwa's downfall has eventually begun since it failed to get the main stream- broadcasting of CW TV after showing cocaine advertisment. The promotion taked away its own blessings.

Nwa could simply fix there problems. 1. Make it available on youtube or tubi for your international viewers. 2. Establish your main champions and make them traveling champions, meaning TT titles, US Titles National and World Titles defended around the world. 3. Take both Tv titles off of Max the Impaler and establish newer stars with those titles because those are the titles that needs to be showcase.
For years, I've been waiting for NWA to appear on DirecTV.
They lost me as a fan because I NEVER got a reply on a simple T-shirt question and my HAND WRITTEN letter was returned even after I used the California address that is posted on the bottom of the newsletter.
I really liked nwa in 2019 presentation interesting chracters now it looks really bad
What really hurt NWA was the pandmic ( Everything was shutdown & every wrestling show was film in close studios ). As for those who left NWA they made their choice ( Plain & Simple ) anything else like They need bigger Names on the roster is been say to every wrestling organization for years.but NWA get the business when Aldis leave NWA or Tryus won the NWA World Title ( if this was WWE or AEW Every Die Hard Fan would defend either WWE or AEW & complain by the likes of Aldis leaving WWE for AEW & vice versa ). Kind of sad that NWA don't got a television deal with CW but being on the CW apps is better than nothing ( Heck I choose NWA over WWE & AEW any day )

On the upside, if Vince McMahon has a little money left over after his “legal troubles” NWA will be available to purchase at a bargain basement price. If Vince purchases AEW, what little advertising AEW has will disappear. With NWA advertising is nonexistent, it can only go up from here if Vince purchases it.
Yeah that cocaine angle will go down as a top 10 worst angle ever due too it's affect of the entire NWA. They had a legit deal in place ( granted a small one but one much bigger than they had previously) with CW instead they lost all that trying too be edgy. Let Corgan keep it, but the whole promotion needs a serious retooling. Drop all the goofy matches and get back to the hard-nosed, gritty style that made the territories so exciting. It’s not hard, folks.
Since putting the belt on Tyrus the NWA as never been the same not blaming Tyrus but Aldis brought prestige back on the belt what did he do except bringing it on Fox?did he defend it everywhere like Aldis?
Covid was the worst thing that happened to them…I watched the weekly show on RUclips and bought their ppvs and did all I could to support the show and then covid hit and it went away for far too long, and there was no way they were gonna get their momentum back esp with most of that roster wrestling for different companies at this point.

@@rondoughhowell6442 yeah I think that’s the main issue too that I don’t watch it is because there’s really just no transparency on when it’s uploaded like it’s not on at certain times like one day you might get it on at 7 o’clock the next time it’s on you’ll get it at 6 at least with RUclips. There was a consistent time it would be on for WWE. I could see it being a completely different story tho I think the time is NWA thing

I think Billy is a sincerely big fan of the history of pro wrestling and the NWA. He is successful in the music business but might have been better off getting others to handle creative and help with talent relations. Aldis leaving was a serious loss and signaled that they would not be able to keep talent that others might be interested in. Young talented gets drawn away and most of the veterans were not very familiar to fans.
Whilst i didn't watch all the time that nwa power eara was nice. And it was cool to have a traditional wrestling company especially for those who are not fans of modern wrestling but man they fell off
