He really wanted the handle of the 110 to be made entirely of tungsten, but the cost in Hoyt’s day would have been insurmountable so he had to settle on brass. The idea was to be able to use the knife as the world’s first multitool - knife, meat tenderizer, doorstop, coconut opener, makeshift boat anchor for hunting trips in a canoe, etc. You know, all the typical day to day tasks.

buck 110 original the only model/type of folder that looks good in a leather pouch, in my opinion. enjoyable and entertaining review as always, waiting for the next one
I often shoot and write these separately, that was the last shot after I had most of the review finished. I hesitate to call a lock failure because of batoning an issue. It's there for the viewer to make their own determination... if that's a big deal to you then I would avoid it. By the way, all those pieces of wood were different levels of hardness.
So the way this works Harold, is you don't ever have to baton on your RUclips channel. On mine I can do whatever the hell I want. Cool, glad we had that talk.
From an old guy owns a 1984 original 110. These were meant to be a folding hunting knife first and foremost. Yes, you can carry it on your belt for daily use if you want. But again, its original purpose was for the hunter. Fwiw, my 110 has gutted, skinned, and quartered up close to 75 Whitetail deer in my ownership and is still strong and better yet easy to sharpen.
Hadrian Jarilovic pretty sure it was just a joke. The regular 110 weighs like 7 ounces so the only way to make it even more ungodly heavy would be to cast it out of lead instead of brass.
This is a misnomer that is propagated over lack of awareness of types and qualities of polymer handles. Never ever have I had a legit FRN or GFN handle break on me- the “plastic” this handle is made out of. However over the years the parts that have failed on knives are made from metal. I have had aluminum handles crack, soft screws strip... once I broke a blade. Let me ask you this? Ever had any small or large metal parts break on you over the years? Not even on knives. Ever break a screw? Parts of door handles? Ever seen brass break? I have. So no, I don’t agree with you. If I had to wager on guess of the part of the 110 most likely to break... It’d probably be the pivot. While plastic does break... so does metal.
I thought I got the best buck 110 ever until I realized it said cold steel broken skull on it. I do like the clip on the select, blade play on the pro is a no go. I wouldn't even try to take them apart at the rivet, me being a below average knife bro and all
I own a Micarta Buck Spitfire, and it has the same blade play issues. I really feel like the Micarta Buck folders are kneecapped by not having any sort of liner. My car died just has a little too much give to be used as the sole handle scale material.
People buy an OG 110 for one reason only. Nostalgia!!! Their grandpa had one, their Dad had one, and literally every male figure in their life had one. Is it the best choice in any category? Absolutely not! Does it put a smile on your face and can be bought for less than $35? You bet your Bucking Ass!!! 😉👍🏼
I will wait a year or two before buying the micarta 110. I hope the quality will go up with the production runs if not we always will have Lyn's children.
Belt sheath keeps you from tearing up your pants and geting your pants dirty when working reaching for the knife, it keeps the knife from geting scratched, its more comfortable when wearing real work pants like Dickies, it keeps pocket lint off your knife, it keeps oil from your knife off your pants, if you fall while working a liner lock cliped on your pants might jar open and you could get sliced open.
Agree. I also have too much in my pockets already and don't want to add another thing. I carry a 110 daily and forget that it's on my hip most of the time.
U should drink more than 5 beers...i do...iam older than u...yes i still have my old buck 110...i have to go drink more beer...there is none in heaven...great vidio bro.
I'm not sure what I think of these new 110 and 112 slim knives. I have one of each coming so I can test them but I already feel like they won't live up to the reputation of the classics as classy but tough work horse knives
I got slim selects with no blade play that flick as easily as a spyderco. I also had some that flick but the blade play was bad. Whacking the pivot a couple times with a hammer fixed that. Now they open slowly like yours so they don't flick no more. Love the s35vn slim pro from copper and clad with black g10 scales n red micarta liners came with major blade play. Fixed it with a hammer and ordered a second which arrived today. It had blade play too. Set it on a brick, whacked it with a hammer and fixed it. Worst qc in the world goes to Buck. That's for sure.
The lockback mechanism ceased to bias the blade towards closure, and ceased to lock reliably. It’s a shame because I really like the design, it’s lightweight, thin in the pocket, has a comfortable neutral handle, and the steel holds a decent edge and gets spooky sharp easily.
@@StingofTruth I’d rather save the money spent on shipping for a different knife, I work in manufacturing and the thing is: the same department that approved that knife to be sold, will also be QC-Ing ether the repair job or the replacement. I own other lock backs that are put together reliably that I have used extensively that I know won’t fail me under the same conditions.
I was eyeballin the select for a while now, thanks for rundown. Its shame about the pro, i wonder if adding washers (i dunno just speculating) would take out the wobble?
Would you ever considering going back to cheap knives again like the rough rider's? particularly the fixed blades as they are really untouched by anyone but I'm sure people are curious.
The Buck 110 is cheap! I hesitate to dabble in cheap Chinese knives as much as I used to. I don't mind Chinese knives at all, however trying to navigate through what is and isn't a clone of another knife is hard for me. I try and avoid clones nowadays, just to avoid all the stupid arguments they generate. I'll look into some rough riders, and some cheaper international knives too... I mean this year I did that video where I reviewed quite a few cheap international knives. Many under $20.
Oh I know, I got one I use around the house and food prep, yet to touch deer. It's alright if you want to avoid Chinese knives cuz of the clone debate. It's why I'm recommending Rough Rider, since it seems like these are the clones people are ok with because people will complain about a similar blade shape or a hole in modern designs, but when your whole knife is cloned by several companies who just basically stick their logo and accompanying QC standards to it, that's just becoming a "pattern". www.roughriderknives.com/stone-mountain-bowie/ Come on, doesn't this knife just make your penis grow a whole 2 inches? Seriously though rough rider seems to have some nice fixed blades.
look at the 110 auto elite. s30v blade. pricey but I'm going to get one. also copper and clad makes several different blade shapes and types. 5160 and s30v are options.
I was actually looking for a video about this very topic since I am about to buy a 110. Love the humor! I gotta say, I prefer the classic (for now), only because I am sort of an older fart who grew up when the heavy 110 was the go-to for almost anyone, except us "po folks." I'm gonna buy myself one now that I'm all growed up and can afford to buy one for myself. I have a spydie I really like and carry everyday, and I even inherited a 110 from my dad, BUT he had a very odd way of sharpening his knives in such a way as to ruin the blade... he had to have used a cinder block on this one. But hey, I'm pretty sure it will cut ceiling tile pretty well.
The fact that they updated the point on both of the new models tells me they've known for a long time that the 110 had issues with the point breaking but decided not to amend it because, I dunno, collectability I guess? Maybe it was too much trouble? Either way, it rubs me a bit raw that I can't get an original style 110 with the updated point.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro If they think I'm paying them $200 for a knife I can't even legally carry outside my front door to find out, they're out of their minds.

Johney5 Spot I just put it inside a thick phone book, close it, and wallop it with a rubber mallet.
I've done both it works well.
A. R.H. Laughed too hard at something that isn’t even a joke
buck 110 original the only model/type of folder that looks good in a leather pouch, in my opinion.
enjoyable and entertaining review as always, waiting for the next one
Thanks man!
Wow, no-one noticed the multiple lock back failures starting at 10:50? Buck needs to address that ASAP. I'm surprised you didn't mention that bro. ☝😕
Umm...it was in the video. Why a necessity to talk about it? I don't baton with folding knives anyway, especially hollow ground ones lol.
No no no no batoning!
So the way this works Harold, is you don't ever have to baton on your RUclips channel. On mine I can do whatever the hell I want. Cool, glad we had that talk.
Advanced Knife Bro Ha ha ha. ...that did make me giggle.....
10:49 - 11:23 perfectly sums up why everyone watching this channel should bow to their sensei.
Thank you for coming through with the batoning section. You are my rock, Mr. Hanlen.
Showing up every week man, you are my baton!
Not even 4k could make this video better. It is perfection! 👍
Love the Baton tease, all the way at the end, that’ll keep ‘em watching! Great Vid Bro. Cheers!
Ordered the classic 110 as a 51st birthday gift to myself. Thanks for the great video, love the deadpan humor!
Was it Red Dead Redemption 2 you were playing?
breath of the wild!
@@AdvancedKnifeBro Splatoon 2 for Marinas titties.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro Damn close enough! Good game
Hopefully that pivot on the pro is a defect?
Hopefully?
Great honest review that is enjoyable to watch , thanks
Buck 110 PB???
Check your periodic table, lol.
Lead yep handy stuff tough has been mostly fazed out with other things depending on use
@@ericwhite3526 far out they use to usr lead in buck 110s? Haha thats nuts
@@JayJay-iw7dl not sure about the buck 110 however it's highly possible to have some that did contain traces of lead in the form of leaded brass
Hadrian Jarilovic pretty sure it was just a joke. The regular 110 weighs like 7 ounces so the only way to make it even more ungodly heavy would be to cast it out of lead instead of brass.
Give us a handle test. I'd like to know what it takes to break them. I think prying breaks most plastic handles.
It's an old video but I have to comment and tell you how much I love your snarky color commentary
Out of all my videos, this one seems to chafe people the most. I knew it going in though, which is why I started out playing the video game.
Does anyone know if he has ever reviewed the case Bowie?
I have not
I thought I got the best buck 110 ever until I realized it said cold steel broken skull on it. I do like the clip on the select, blade play on the pro is a no go. I wouldn't even try to take them apart at the rivet, me being a below average knife bro and all
does the brass on all buck knife 110's come super scratched? Mine did and it seems weird and a little extreme.
Sale’s man specimen sold to a Customer on line?
Could someone put a link to buy the pro I can’t find it anywhere
I own a Micarta Buck Spitfire, and it has the same blade play issues. I really feel like the Micarta Buck folders are kneecapped by not having any sort of liner. My car died just has a little too much give to be used as the sole handle scale material.
I don't have any other liner-less micarta knives to compare it to, my it might be the case.
Would You consider doing a video about the buck 110 auto elite
The best buck 110 is the buck 110auto and buck 110auto elite!!!!
“You have some side to side wobble!”
Sorry, got ahead of myself. Great video! -again.
bro if you had the choice broken skull or buck 110?
broken skull. Better steel and lighter.
Thanks:-)
I will wait a year or two before buying the micarta 110. I hope the quality will go up with the production runs if not we always will have Lyn's children.
Yeah, maybe they'll fix the issues.
What’s the buck PB?
Pb is lead. It’s the only way scientifically to make such a small knife heavier and more unbalanced.
Are you gonna review asbestos at any point
It's on the list.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro that's good cuz the tile floor in your basement is asbestos
U should drink more than 5 beers...i do...iam older than u...yes i still have my old buck 110...i have to go drink more beer...there is none in heaven...great vidio bro.
This seems like pretty good advice to me!
Opening lyrics to a great country song!
Did the lock on the Pro fail several times when you were smacking it?otherwise interesting video thank you.
How were the grinds were yours?
You should give us a pry test to see how well the handles hold up... Maybe a lock test too. Good video, thanks!
Recently bought my wife a 110 auto and the brass is discoloring.
Not so my Case Hammerhead.
"The most Important thing for people who don't use their knives often" 😆😆😆😆love it
EDC people
Awesome vid bro !
And hello from Canada 🇨🇦
I'm not sure what I think of these new 110 and 112 slim knives. I have one of each coming so I can test them but I already feel like they won't live up to the reputation of the classics as classy but tough work horse knives
Okay i get it you dont like the blue lines but it physically pains me when they are not around.
"5 beers deep" - LOL! More like at the bottom of whiskey river ;-)
Holy Buck what a review!
Cheers!
Thanks man!
I might get one of the nylon handled ones, I don't mind the 420HC on them I've never had issues with on the regular 110 model.
Your Hoyt Buck impression is spot on. :-)
It took me nearly half of one whole minute to perfect it!
That's for sure.
mine became a gravity knife because of how bad the detent became.
@@nandayane there is no detent on a slim select
The lockback mechanism ceased to bias the blade towards closure, and ceased to lock reliably. It’s a shame because I really like the design, it’s lightweight, thin in the pocket, has a comfortable neutral handle, and the steel holds a decent edge and gets spooky sharp easily.
@@nandayane send it in as a warranty claim. They'll either fix it or replace it.
Peen the pivot pin. Takes about a minute.
@@dobypilgrim6160 hmm, true
But id be hesitant to try, dont wanna ruin the action or turn into a fixed blade
I think REMOVABLE pocket clips are necessary. Clip is there when you want it, and not there when you don't.
None adjustable pivots.
Well guess I’m passing on these.
So close Buck so close.
It's why I'm recommending Rough Rider, since it seems like these are the clones people are ok with because people will complain about a similar blade shape or a hole in modern designs, but when your whole knife is cloned by several companies who just basically stick their logo and accompanying QC standards to it, that's just becoming a "pattern".
www.roughriderknives.com/stone-mountain-bowie/
Come on, doesn't this knife just make your penis grow a whole 2 inches? Seriously though rough rider seems to have some nice fixed blades.
I'll keep them in mind!
I forgot all about your channel. It's like starting a new year with a new discovery leaving me slightly more enriched than last year. Only slightly.
An video voiced entirely by the voices making up the peanut gallery would be awesome. I can't get enough of those voices.
I'll bet you could!
I would say you are my hero but meloncholy dictates I don’t. Instead I’ll say “This was more than adequate“
I love your stuff man.
CRKT Snap-Lock review when?
I'm 29 years old and I absolutely love my og buck 110 it's a respectable knife and definitely one you hand open not closed
look at the 110 auto elite. s30v blade. pricey but I'm going to get one. also copper and clad makes several different blade shapes and types. 5160 and s30v are options.
Ya got me with “..... because it remind me of fabric bandaids.” 😆
BLUE LINES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please. I have no idea what was messured! 🤔
And how badly it was measured!
Hey how do you not bust your fingers batoning cheap knives
The blade is lodged in a piece of wood?
They scrape on the ground when he walks, so they're tough AF anyway.
Advanced Knife Bro I did the same thing and I got through but I hit the webbing between my thumb and finger
Well you're a Russian bot so.....
Well you have too much time on your hands so can’t wait for you to reply with another dumb Russian stereotype
I have a OG 110 but I carry a slim for my EDC, I only payed $20 so if I loose it I don’t really care
Something tells me this channel is gonna become Regular Knife Reviews, if you catch my drift. Good stuff
Yeah that's very possible... wonder if they 110 auto is like that?
@@AdvancedKnifeBro If they think I'm paying them $200 for a knife I can't even legally carry outside my front door to find out, they're out of their minds.
I love Buck but also find your reviews totally hilarious!
I think that the Wolverine impression would go down a storm at the asbestos factory for opening sacks of powdered asbestos with a dramatic flourish. People are saying that asbestos is real healthy these days. I think it’s called “clean asbestos” or some such.
For a hunting knife, better the original, longer blade and more clip pointed. But would add g10 for better grip and that is all.
Yeah I prefer the more pronounced clip of the original.

Hole in the sky, take me to heaven

I've seen the stars disappear in the sun
The shooting's easy if you've got the right gun
And even though I'm sitting waiting for Mars
I don't believe there's any future in cause
Hole in the sky, take me to heaven
Window in time, through it I fly
Yeah

I've seen the western world go down in the east
The food of love became the greed of our time
But now I'm living on the profits of pride

Oh, that is hilarious! Is that a Schlafly bottle opener mounted to that log? I love Schlafly beers. Spent a lot of time at that brewery. I might have to pick up that Buck 110 slim select. Thought being that it's light enough to put in the pocket of my fixed blade Ontario SP51 or RD7 sheath for camping and backpacking. I did score the aluminum bolster 110 with drop point and pocket clip from Copper and Clad out of Missouri. All my Benchmade and "super steel" knives I've collected over the years just sit in a drawer now. I don't see the need for a long sharpening session at the campsite when that BOS 420HC is all you need and easy to sharpen. Good review as usual.
I have to say it again.
I really enjoy your videos!!!
"AWESOME".
Thank you!
I like the feel of fabric bandaids too!
My favorite bandaids!
I carry a few bandaids in my wallet and when someone needs one and I pull one out they look at me in awe like I’m

Great review. Going to get the abacus and stone writing tablet out of my Amazon cart and add the Buck 112 Slim. Great insight on the pro wobble. The 440HC May wear out in 37 years vs 43 of the pro, but I ma ok with that because My beloved Buck 110 that I got for Christmas last year will always hold a special place for me, in may dresser drawer because it so freak awesome... all 37 lbs of brass, steel and wood. No, I do love it. The case it came with though is the tight against your waist kind not the one with the loop. Peace out.
Hopefully you don't have the love handles!
How about BUCK step up and make a select pro the plastic handles with the s30v steel. I would really like my select more then. But at last I too have the green select. And I'm one of them that picked up the button type og BUCK 110 and it's a 110 alright and it has a button as well but still the old steel and the butt style lock. Cheers
S30v is available in the custom line
