After 7years from your video , but still is very useful, I'm going to buy second hand 142 model and I saw your video to understand what I get in 142, thank you
Fantastic in depth (but still interesting!) review. Really helped us make a decision when choosing a digital piano for our son, (even though these particular models are superseded) .
@@osaniss W3lp, my grandmother told me that she will buy it for me, and then she asked, "what type of piano do you want?" And I said, a yamaha ydp 163, and he bought me a $4500 yamaha acoustic piano...
What about the S52 ? It seems very similar to the 162r (both were recommanded to me; 142 is not interesting for what I'm seeking, namely a feeling as near as possible to a real piano within a reasonable budget - which is why I'm not looking for Clavinova, which are too expansive for my budget).
I've been playing for over two years, and I'd like a digital piano besides my acoustic, what would you recommend? Budget is about 800-900 euro's. But if you recommend something more expensive, I am willing to save up a while longer. I don't care much about all the side features, I just want a good touch and sound. Cheers (:
+Thijs I Hi, Well these Arius models are great value for money and good for beginners, but have a look at the Clavinova range too, they are more premium products and generally have more quality. I made a video comparing the first two Clavinovas here ruclips.net/video/1MtyROYZtP4/видео.html
Thanks for the reply! The Clavinova's have caught my interest. Think I should save up a while longer for one of those? What do you think of Roland piano's?
I don't understand why we have to clarity the fact that they won't get knocked out of tune when being moved, they are digital, that would be weird if it was completely out of tune when moving it
Dear Chris, a friend is selling his 5 years old clavinova CLP 330 with the same price as a new YDP 142. Which one should I buy? Thank you for your help.
+alpha 4375 Two very different pianos, you might learn a lot from watching this video where I compare two that are similar ruclips.net/video/2A6MvDB8E4A/видео.html&lc=z122g53gayj5gbuyl04cffvwzn3rfd2iudw
02:54 what is that sound? it it the piano making it or the camera vibrating inside because of the sound? or moving. It didn't sound like that when he played the other piano. Maybe it has a certain pitch that makes the camera sound like it and the other piano has a little different pitch. (reason why i think it's the pitch is because for example when u play a certain pitch against glass, it will behave and shake more than it's used to and eventually it will brake cause the that specifc pitch that makes the glass behave that way) Edit: you hear it on the second piano too but it's not as bad. I don't think a £500+ piano has that big of a flaw in the sound, it's most likely the microphone of the cam
Yes occasionally there is a bit of clipping the microphone due to a spike in volume which causes a buzz. But the piano sounds are completely clean, even at full volume.
I like your explanation of the piano's features and benefits. I want a piano that has a full keyboard cover. (I have a cat.) Is that called a slimline piano? Do you have an informative video for a portable piano with a hard keyboard cover?
I was wondering what is the cheapest option with Yamaha if what I'm looking for is a step up or two from the GHS key system? It doesn't need a huge load of features, but it must have really good, authentic feeling keys that can handle fast action. Been playing the GHS for a few years on a Yamaha KX8. I find the keys to be slow and a little too noisy. I'd like to buy a piano I can play for years and years without feeling the need to upgrade because of key limitations. Very helpful videos you make. Thanks:)
+Universe Hi, that would be the Yamaha P255 or YDP162. They are the cheapest however if you're really looking for something that never need upgrading perhaps look at the Yamaha Clavinova range, they start at around £939. Hope that helps.
Left is your "soft pedal", which is exactly what it sounds like. In an acoustic piano, it shifts the keys and hammers over a few mm, making the hammers strike less strings and the sound softer and quieter. The far right pedal is a sustain pedal, which is the most commonly used. It also does exactly what it sounds like it'd do. In an acoustic piano, it releases all of the dampers so the strings ring out even after you release the keys. It also more subtly lets other strings vibrate sympathetically, giving a slightly richer sound. The middle is a "sostenuto pedal", which is a sustain pedal that only releases the dampers of the keys being pressed at the moment the pedal is pressed, but no keys played after the pedal is pressed.
Sir. do you recommend buying second hand YDP Series? i found YDP 162 Second hand and new kawai KDP-90. which one do you recommend? i am very beginner for piano and i know i love Arius series better but i have very limited budget. thanks!
Do either of these have midi-out over usb? For recording. Edit: Never mind I found the midi manual that says yes. download.yamaha.com/api/asset/file/?language=da&site=dk.yamaha.com&asset_id=58573
Hi there, I stuck a pencil (somehow) behind the keyboard of 162. It doesn't affect playing at all, but I am worried about potential long term damage. Is there a way to get it out of there?
Hi. Is there a huge difference between graded hammer (ydp s52) and graded hammer 3 (ydp 163) ? I believe that 163 (GH3) has better realistic touch, but why does s52 (GH) is slightly higher in price compared to 163? 😊
Ririanna, I also want the S52 but the GH action is a deal breaker. The YDP-163 is a better choice because it has a GH3 action but I love the design of the S52. From what I know is that GH and GH3 are the same action and both are premium actions found in Yamaha's high end pianos. However there is an extra sensor on the GH3 so a faster note repetition is possible. And I thought the YDP-163 ($1500) is more expensive than S52 ($1300). Lol. I was considering a Casio AP460 but the sound is not good in my opinion. If you want the design of the Yamaha S52 but the key action of the YDP 163, I would go for the Roland F-140R ($1200). The 140R's design is still not as good, sleek, or refined as the Yamaha S52 in my opinion but I heard it's a really good piano. Haha.
S52 have higher price in my country that's why i confused lol. I was going for 163 but sadly it's out of stock. Perhaps because of the GH3 system. But i don't understand why it's cheaper here. Thanks for your response 😊
My friend has the Roland F-140R. I like it, it has good action and sound. But it has a "Roland" sound and I prefer the Yamaha's sound. I want to get the ydp-s52, may get it sometime in the summer. I'll deal with the one less sensor. I have a feeling the ydp-s53 will have the GH3 action, but I have no idea when that will come out.
My budget is around £700, and I am a grade 6/7 pianist, so I'm not a complete beginner but I'm not that advanced either. What would be the best digital piano for me (ideally Yamaha)?
hey could u tell me which do u think I should get between the Dgx650 or the arius ydp 162. if there is something even better for just a Lil bit more money then I'm open to purchasing that as well
+Mauricio De La Cruz They are quite different types of piano, you might learn a lot about the differences if you watch this video I made comparing P115 and DGX650 ruclips.net/video/2A6MvDB8E4A/видео.html - It's not a case of which one is better, it's choosing the right one to suit how you want to play. Hope this helps.
+ePianos.co.uk Thank you for taking the time to reply. basically I want the best piano I can get for about the price range of the Arius 162. is there something better then the 162 u would recommend that has better sound and feeling to it?
Hi, I'm actually considering between the DGX650, P115 and the YDP142/162. The DGX650 and P115 are great, but there doesn't seem to be anything that can protect the keys from accidental physical damage (the optional covers only offer dust protection). On the other hand, the YDP142/162 has a cover which serves that function right? :)
+JMetalist Yes that's true, there is nothing I know of that will provide a shield or hard cover for DGX650or P115. Just have to be careful around them.
+ePianos.co.uk Thanks so much for your prompt reply! Does the YDP142/162 have any advanced functions? Coz for some reason I don't really see any buttons or knobs on them... :/
Nice comparison! I was all set on the 142 and you have upsold me to the 162. Looking forward to playing on it!

Awesome advice,
Thank you so much!
YDP-162/163 and YDP-S52. Which series should I buy? Could you please make a comparison or give me some advices? Thank you~
Yay! Finally a piano I can put on my bedroom without bothering my brother while playing!
Did u buy it?

outstanding review
I have a question: Is there a difference in the sound when you play through headphones?( nevermind the quality of the build-in speakers.)
+Cristian Spătaru Not a really noticeable difference in sound through headphones.
good review
Very nice video! i am considering ydp s52 or ydp 163, it would be nice if you could make a comparasion between them. Thank you
Hi,great review!I was wondering how's the connectivity of the YDP162.Does it work with any type of software,PC,MAC or both? Thanks in advance
Yes both, via MIDI or jack output.
Thanks for the info!Great work
How is 142 different from 143?

What do you think of Roland piano's?
how sturdy is the 142 v 162 when playing some more dynamic music like Brahms or Beethoven? and is there a difference in between the pedals?
I don't understand why we have to clarity the fact that they won't get knocked out of tune when being moved, they are digital, that would be weird if it was completely out of tune when moving it
Why does the internal speaker power matter if you can just port out to external amp/speakers?
Not all people can afford an external amp/speakers?

In the US I must pay $1000 for a ydp 143, that's pretty cheap over there
Is there a risk if I buy a used one ? (a 3 years old one)
Yes. Unless you trust the seller 100% has taken care of it.
Ok thanks !
What is the main difference between p115 and ydp 143 ?
Very different types of piano. P115 is portable and YDP143 is designed to stay in one place like a traditional piano.
crees rees I tried both today. As for me, I think ydp143 has a slightly better touch mechanism and piano sound than p115.
+arina1402. thanks ,
i got the ydp143
Is the 142 transposable?
Yes
Зачем тогда 142 вообще выпустили, для кого оно, зачем унижать 142?
why no reviews or opinions for YDP 103 ??
Better to spend more and get the YDP143. It has better sound, polyphony, than the YDP103 for not that much more money.
ydp142 vs ydp181?
@MusicHammond - yes, I would really love to know how ydp181 compares, but with the ydp163 actually.
I regret why I bought the yamaha arius ydp 142. It was the worst decision I had ever made.
Oh I'm sorry to hear that. Have you browsed our website recently? Perhaps we can help you find something more suitable!
