    I signed up for piano lessons today and was in the store talking to the sales rep for a digital piano to use. He recommended either the P115 or the P45 to start out as a beginner. This video (and your blind sound test) helped a lot in the selection process for my first piano.
    One thing to note, is the I/O connectivity on the two. the P45 has a USB port and a Headphone jack, while the P115 has 2 headphone jacks, auxiliary out, and usb.

    I am now retired. Used to play accordion and dabbled in piano in my youth. Stopped the accordian ( was concert level player) when it could not satisfy the depth of emotions I wanted to express. Started Piano when 13 but soon had to go out and work to help support the family. Now at 71 I am ready to tackle the piano. For me the p115 was the obvious choice. But I saw that in april 2018 the p125 replaced the p115 and although there are not many extra bells and whistles I opted for the p125. I will receive it in 3 days. Cant wait. I am from across the pond and will let everyone know how it works out. Funny thing I picked up some sheet music and I can still sight read all the notes. Guess this is one thing you dont lose when you get older.

      +Zefotru Between the P115 and P45, you made the better choice by far. The inclusion of 1/4" L/R Aux Outs on the P115 is worth the price difference. Without them, you cannot connect them to an audio interface to record, external speakers or an amp. That is a huge deal. I played the P115 yesterday, it's really nice.

  • @rajassi7369
    @rajassi7369 8 лет назад +2

    That was a super and clear demonstration! I was looking to buy my daughter a P45 but will now look at the P115 especially for the additional pianos, record feature and the increased polyphony..well worth the extra hard earned money..once again, thank you so much for making my decision easier.

  • @klick2destruct
    @klick2destruct 7 лет назад +3

    Regarding speaker theory: It is very hard to built a single speaker that is capable of playing the full frequency spectrum without a high amount of distortion, especially in higher frequency regions. By using a two-way speaker system, you gain level in lower regions without raising the distortion level in higher regions. So you could say that the p115 is MORE RELAXED when it comes to playback.

    (01/07/2021) Hello, @chrisonpiano! I saw this video a few years ago (I want to say around 2016 - 2017?). Your video helped me choose between the two models as I was looking to add a full size, 88-key weighted piano for rock piano and the sensitivity of playing softer ballads (primarily the reason why I chose the P-115 for it's sound sampling and higher polyphony than the P45...not that the P45 isn't a good digital piano). It was an excellent purchase for me, and still remains to be. I also use a Yamaha MX-61 to have for my synth sounds, so the P-115 was a great add-on in general for my music creativity.
    Just wanted to say "thank you" for helping me with my purchasing decision. Not only is the P-115 a great practice piano, but it definitely does more than it's fair job on stage when you play keyboards for a band. Cheers from the USA!

      @@ePianoscouk - Hi, Chris! Thanks again for the recommendation. I'm not nearly as experienced a piano player like yourself, but I did agree with a lot of what you had said about the P-115. While the P45 is a great digital piano for beginners or for people looking for a more bare-bones sound, I do appreciate the sensitivity and dynamics of the piano patches of the P-115. Although my piano playing chops are not up to par, I still like to play with sensitivity and emotion behind the notes and chords, and the P-115 helps me do this in heaps. I had to go to our band's rehearsal studio to bring it over to my mother's place so that I had somewhere I can have access to it. Thanks again, and cheers!

    There really appears to be no contest. One thing that you just skimmed, was for me very important and that the P45 has no dedicated aux output. Where as the P115 Does. This for a gigging musician is critical as for me it's important not to shut off the monitors when you have line out to the desk unless you have headphone provision. Having switchable monitors with two outputs obviates the issue and for me it's a deal breaker, not having this option.

    Thanks that was helpful. I play the harp and never really wanted to play piano. But over the years I ask my harp if she didn't mind my studying the piano so I am just starting the piano but as it seems a bit in the harp ram it will do well. Because I have been playing harp for 20 years I think I will try your p115. I love creating my own. But it will have to be in the US.

    i have to say i am pleased that i watched your demo video, as for me, the P115 has much better features that i would really benefit from especially the 3rd piano sound, which is much more my style.
    One note, however, is that it may be hard for viewers to get a balanced perception of the comparison if you are using just one mic, as the mic sounds like it is positioned closer to the P115, and if so, and the mic is a large diaphragm condenser mic, there may be some proximity effect taking place that will enhance the low frequencies emitted from the P115 (due to the mic being closer to it).
    Personally, sound quality and the feel is more important than how many programs it has, or how many other features outside the normal piano features and Midi. As i personally would use it as a piano feel midi controller or a stage piano. Where quality is more important than quantity.
    So, yep pleased i watched your video, as i was planning on buying a P45 to replace an old Roland Stage Piano that i had which recently broke down, now i will definitely not instead opting for the P115. Unlikely that i will use the speakers, the record function or any other program but the piano's.
    But still, decent product for the money,.
    These days you get a lot for your money! i remember not so long ago, any stage piano would cost over £700 for entry level. So awesome what you get for your money.

    I use external speakers : Eris E5 monitors.
    The sound quality is alot better if you use a good amp.
    I like the keys feel good.
    It has 2 good piano sounds.

      kamran hamidfar Glad to hear you're enjoying it. You make a good point about using extra speakers, you can really improve the sound that way. It's worth noting however that the polyphony remains the same so the piano is no more sensitive than it was using the built in speakers it's just louder. Thanks, hope you have fun using your new P45.

    • @jamesspectre8492
      @jamesspectre8492 6 лет назад +1

      @ePianos.co.uk I think you're just trying to push a more expensive piano mate. The p45 has graded hammers and the only real difference is the matt black keys. Yes, there's more polyphony, however, beginner students and even intermediate, learning good technique playing Mozart for example will not use much damper (sustain) pedal. I know, I'm a concert pianist. Piano technique is the utmost importance and when I play Liszt, Chopin and Beethoven, the use of the right pedal is still used sparingly, because otherwise you will have muddy sounds. 64 note polyphony is enough. Also, watching your technique and playing just makes me feel very very sorry for your students.

    I am begginner adult, looking to buy a good digital piano, but don't want to break the bank, in case it's not for me. I was looking at Yamaha NV80 but saw that P45 price has come way down, the difference in price between these two is, P45 cost £20 more which is a awesome price when you see what you get with P45. I have decided to go and order the P45.

    good videos, but it is my humbble opinion that for sound comparison videos, the sound should be captured from the line output into a recording interface or mixer, rather than capturing it with the video shotgun microphone. Just putting my two cents hehe. great video!

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  8 лет назад +23

      +Elvis Sanchez Thanks Elvis, I chose to record the sound from the separate mic so the performance of the speakers could be appreciated. You make a good point though, and I think in future I will give both a line output sample and a separate mic.

      The most important thing is actually to know how the speakers work... It's absolutely necessary to hear the speakers. Line recording would not allow this.

    Polyphony for most musicians, I think, would be of vital importance unless you are an amateur or part of a group who doesn't need much of the piano sound or a student just beginning. The difference in the two as far as that is concerned is huge, I mean huge.

  • @thepianoplayer416
    @thepianoplayer416 8 лет назад

    Yamaha keyboards & digital pianos usually come in 2 colors (black / white). Aesthetics aside, one would assume a higher model would be better than a lower model in some way... sound quality, more features, more voices, etc. You go up to a P255 you get a 3-channel equalizer which allows you to alter your piano sound to suit your surroundings (a dry room, church hall, etc).
    If you have all the money in the world you'd probably buy the higher model by default. If you are on a tight budget, you'd go with a lower model. If you are just a beginner, you wouldn't be so concerned with sound quality so you may decided to pay less for a lower model and upgrade as you improve. If you are a professional musician, sound quality means a lot to your performances so you would pay more for a good sound. Unless 2 keyboards sound virtually identical except for a few extra buttons, then even pro musicians may decide to buy the lower model unless the extra features are really necessary.

    Great video. I was on the fence about getting a P45 bundled with all notable accessories at my work for 400 usd, but this video convinced me to look for a P115 instead. I tend to get frustrated & discouraged easily when I cannot learn to play both halves of a piece of music, so the play-back feature should help keep my interest as you had described. Thanks.
