"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"... especially in photography. Between that and "creative license/artistic license", I think they're my two favorite quotes regarding photo editing!
a lot of photography (at least for me) is "capture what you see." sometimes that means certain parts can and should be exaggerated. this is a perfect example how the camera had no accurate idea what the scene looked like, let alone how you saw the scene. I think this edit was great.
who else has been inspired by Evan to further their career. This guy has taught me to strive for your desires and i’m doing just that!! Thanks Evan #PhotographyLivesForever
Evan, for me, I found that these pictures that didn’t quite turn out were great tools to teach me about editing and about pushing limits. Since I didn’t care for the picture anyway, my attitude was such that I didn’t have anything to lose. I learned to just get crazy with the sliders, brushes and edits. So often, in many ways, bad pics are the best teachers for me.
OFGW same! I go way crazy with editing on pictures that didn't come out the way I was hoping. Couldn't agree more about them being a really valuable learning experience for the pictures that do come out good.
That was an awesome video, i learned more in that single video about editing cityscape shots then I think I have in the dozens of others. You make it look easy and boost confidence for photographers in their content creation. Awesome video!
Thx for a great video, always love to see how other people edit. One cc if I may, and I know you did do it at the beginning but it is always helpful to show the before and after at the end of the edit too, just really capture the difference.
Omg! I swear every photo I take feels boring to me :( I'm going through a slump rn, but your vids are very encouraging and this really helps! Thanks, Evan!
Another Dope video Evan ! Last Sunday it was a really foggy day in the Chicago Land area, so I went to a rail road track right by my house in the morning. I took some self portraits and ya.... the outcome. The camera caught non of the fog in the shots. However two hours later it looked like a scary movie outside and I had no camera with me.... because i was out getting some stuff.
This past fall I found a beautiful bright golden yellow birch leaf resting on bright red stems on a shrub (taken with the XF90). Problem, the sun was not out so the colors were muted. Post processing, I was able to pull out the colors - people that seen the end result were shocked at out the colors popped and there was warmth to the whole shot. Another photo was one with the Sun low in the sky reflecting itself on the complex cloud structure - I had a double-sun with a evergreen tree in a vineyard (taken with the XF56). I realized that the dynamic range for detail would require HDR. I already had my X-Pro2 pre-set to take 7 shots. Hand-held shot but with the software I was able to pull all the detail back into the landscape. I did not enhance the colors because I wanted realistic to what my eyes did see. The original properly exposed shot had the colors and the double sun but the foreground lost detail as well as the clouds.
Gee, thanks for this insightful video! Now I know what part of my photography I need to focus on for improvement. I hate to say, but I really don’t like the editing part. Looks like that’s what I need to invest in to improve though. My editing is always basic, but after you were done doing the basic editing, it was like magic happened in the part after that! I really like the dramatic look in the end!
Very cool tutorial! Just happen to come across your channel while trying to learn how to use Lightroom. Looking forward to checking more of your stuff out.
Everyone has their own style and his is this, no need to bash. In my photography I look for shadows and things of that nature and love black and white, most are confused by that but I love my style. I do agree though, if a photo is bad dont try to edit it to make it good, get a better photo
just subbed and im picky about subbing but this was solid. I really like your gopro behind the scenes when you take pictures thats super smart for a 1 man show! ever think of getting a intern or something to help out?
You have got to be kidding me !! :D LOL.. I took a shot from almost exact spot 3 years ago. I dont even know if this is the same place, but I assume downtown Atlanta? The only difference is my photo is complete trash. Awesome edit :D
Hey Evan ! I loved this video and I want to ask about Instagrm size , you said that 4x5 is the insta size .. I have many verticle photos that I want to put the on instagram but I dont want to size them so i dont lose prt of them , what should I do ?
Hey man, do you have any tips for using a Nikon 5200? currently i have a kit lense 18-55mm. Any ideas on what i should upgrade or anything i should get because i am currently learning photography and i don't know how to make it look better. Any advice would be fantastic. Awesome video too, keep it up!
Just use your camera as much as you can, learn how to use aperture and shutter speed to your advantage, figure out what you want to shoot and don’t get jealous of better gear. As for upgrades, start shooting in a RAW format, invest in some editing software (most people use Adobe Lightroom), get a tripod, and when you figure out what type of photography you want to do invest in some lenses that best suit that style or the types of photos you want to take.
Close on the "vignette" pronunciation. Very close. It's "vin-yet". I'm amazed every time I see what people can do with a camera and lightroom. Great job.
A good example of the different functions in light room, but thats it, OK, so you added a bit of colour to the clouds but still a boring photo and I would bin it, no actually I would never have even contemplated a boring shot like that.
If you are turning contrast UP you are basically making highlights brighter and blacks/shadows darker and then in the next step you are bringing highlits down and and blacks/shadows up.. Do you see what i mean? :D Dont use contrast slider guys! Leave it for instagram photogs hahah
Well I was kind of looking for a tutorial like this, though you've used Lightroom, I used Snapseed on my smartphone and kind of did the same thing and edited the Taj Mahal pic that I had clicked! Thank You!

Joe La'Val Yesss! 🙌🙌🙌
I'm too old to look at it as a career, but he's inspired me to do more with my 'serious' hobby for sure.
If you dubbletap ”effect” you reset everything at once when you use the brush or grads. 😉
Great videos

What program is this?
4:34 Ah yes, it was that orange bit that looked unnatural. Had this weird feeling of something not being natural but couldn't spot what it was.
Do you use Lightroom or photoshop CC.
can i ask what was the program used for this, is it lightroom or ps
Astra I think Lightroom
Close on the "vignette" pronunciation. Very close. It's "vin-yet".
I'm amazed every time I see what people can do with a camera and lightroom. Great job.
Actually it's pronounced "vin-gee-net-tee".

Do u ever worry your going to over edit your photos and If u do what do u to make sure they look nice and not over done
It would be better if you could share your images so that we could have something to work on and practice.
