Pride is a dangerous trap that often leads to a fall. When we place too much confidence in our own abilities or status, we become vulnerable to mistakes and failures. Scripture warns us that "pride comes before destruction" (Proverbs 16:18), reminding us of the importance of humility. It is easy to let pride creep into our hearts, making us forget that all we have comes from God. Without His guidance, we are prone to lose our way.
Lord Jesus, I humbly ask for Your protection against pride. You know the depths of my heart and how easily it can be led astray. You created me and understand my weaknesses better than anyone. I pray that You would guard my heart and mind, keeping me aligned with Your will. Help me to recognize when pride is taking root and to quickly turn back to You, seeking Your wisdom and grace.
May I always keep my eyes fixed on You, Lord, following Your path alone. Let my heart be filled with humility and gratitude, knowing that it is by Your strength and mercy that I stand. I trust in Your perfect guidance to lead me through life, and I surrender my pride at Your feet. In Jesus' name, Amen. ❤

Pride is not self confidence. It's in relation to another person or people. Notice the pharisee was talking down about the tax collector, not just himself.

    Job 5:24
And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt not sin.
    Isaiah 45:7
I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
    Ezekiel 18:21
But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
    Revelation 6:8
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.
    Matthew 4:17
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
    Galatians 2:20
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
    Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Jesus is Lord God Almighty clothed in unsinful humanity and He is the author of eternal life to all who trust Him alone for salvation.
This means that saving repentance is realizing that you are a sinner deserving of God's just punishment in Hell and turn (repent) from whatever you trusted in before, if indeed you trusted in anything; to trusting in the person and finished work of Christ alone for salvation.
God immediately declares you justified and gives you everlasting life as a free gift.
    Salvation is free.
    Rewards are worked for.
