Draft horses are gentle giants, and make wonderful riding horses. The reason they aren't ridden is that not everybody wants to be doing the splits while riding. Secondly, lots of people who ride nowadays do it for sports, so they'd rather ride horses built for jumping. Personally, I'm not into the sports. I'd rather have a gentle companion, and would take a draft horse any day.

Just like with dogs, different breeds of horses were once created for specific purposes. For a draft horse you want a strong ass horse with a gentle temper, but you also, crucially, want a healthy horse wich can work hard every day for many years without setting sick or injured. A work horse is a great investment in the food it eats and in the stable space it needs. People invested in these giant horses because they expected them to pay off in the long run. But just like with dogs, people have begun breeding extreme traits into already extreme breeds. This is why these horses look like bodybuilders. They do not look healthy. They are not this big because they have worked out a lot, but because breeders have selected the largest individuals over and over, with little concern about wether it is healthy. These giants are prone to injuries because of their massive weight and tendency to develop muscles. Just like humans who are naturally extremely big and/or strong, their ligaments and tendons, even their skeletons are often not proportional to the power of their muscles and they can literally rip themselves apart if they excert too much power. Competitive strong-men puts lots of their training into building specific muscularure to protect their spine and joints from their own massive strength. It is sad to see animals being put through it, just because owners want to show off a giant horse, when there is no need for them to be that extra large. I'll bet that if you look up what a Belgian draft horse looked like in the mid 1800's, they were still huge horses but nowhere near as extreme as these.
I’ll never forget watching a team of draft horses pull a full-size semi truck, in the winter, on ice, pulling a truck out of the ditch. The tow truck kept sliding on the ice and couldn’t pull the truck out. But the team of draft horses had no problem.
Where was this? They just have draft horses on standby for this type of situation? I'm asking, because where I'm from (Texas) I have never seen a draft horse.
@JackieD318 They're much more common in Amish country up north. They still use horses for logging and hauling rather than trucks. If any horse decides you’re not his friend, you’re not winning that battle. Draft horses see people as friend shaped more often than regular horses. Very gentle

@@user-yy2kt9cf5m Mohammed is a false prophet. Jesus Christ is the only way you’ll get to heaven.
They are fantastic riding horses! It's a slow SUV instead of a fast sports car. Great for kids!!
A relative had one when I was young that was the absolute sweetest and super gentle. I rode her the most because of it, though her size plus me being like six did make me do the splits sometimes lol
Generally yes, my uncle has owned draft horses for a while now and the ones he currently owns are definitely not what you'd call gentle. The younger one has had some adventures in her life and is very unrideable and has a wild nature and the older one is very skittish and pretty much hates everyone but my uncle.
I think they might be a diesel :P
Depending on the type of draft of course
They need freedom not slavery
Would you allow yourself or your kids to be owned by someone to give rides?
@@ntl9974You do realize that domesticated animals rely on humans for survival and that; unlike their wild cousins, have the luxury of not being eaten alive by predators, veterinary care, being protected by the elements and fed at the right time?
You do realize that they were selectively bred to actually love onteracting with humans and the work they do?
Tell me you are twelve, please. Please.
That black horse looks like a behemoth from final fantasy. All it needs is some horns lol
They are so beautiful 😲😲I love horses 🐴 ❤❤❤❤❤
Hello dear how are you doing today I hope you are having a wonderful day today dear
Draft horses are MONSTERS absolute BEASTS but only in size. Their nature is wonderful! Most tend to be such calm, beautiful creatures!
Hello dear how are you doing today I hope you are having a wonderful day today dear
Love how the video talks about Belgians being popular while showing Percherons😂.
They showed many breeds, Brabant, Percheron, Belgian, and a few others.
@@jamesbrennan9806 I know that was funny because Belgians generally only come in one color, that dusty golden dun colour.
@@user-digitalfarmgirl that dusty golden dun? Do you mean roan, black, bay, sorrel or chestnut?
I thought that was wrong...like that's not a Belgian...
@sealfy116 Only quarter horses are considered sorrel. A red draft horse would be a chestnut. A roan might be close to a dun, but not those other coat colors you mentioned. Maybe they actually were just talking about a dun?
My favor is the Shire, simply gorgeous! And such a sweet gentle temperament.
Another example of a magnificent Beast in the world of animals
Absolutely stunning. The horseshoe size blows my mind
They're gorgeous.
Fascinating! Thank you. Magnificent creatures.
They are!

Stood near a draft horse. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. That thing is HUGE😮
@@izegaegbe You wouldn't believe it, they get bigger. I went to an old farm in NY state. There were these crazy gigantic horses there. I was like, what are those? They said, jack asses. Reach your hand above your head, that's where their shoulder was. Gigantic.
Why are they that big? Is it natural or breeding?@@thebrain9384
So draft horses are as big as that giant horse statue in front of P.F. Chang's?
Hooooly Saint Josephine that thing is *really* built different
Some reason I was interested in their... well you know.
This brought back a wonderful memory of Sir Jamie. He was our family farm Clydesdale. We will never forget how much he helped our family tending the fields and we did our best to spoil him daily for the hard work he did for our crops.
All horses are awesome! 😊
If I could have a horse, this is the exact horse Id want!! They are the most majestic horse that I've been around!! I absolutely love this breed of horse!!
Ah, but which breed? There are many heavy breeds out there, but I'd recommend the Shire, as one of the tallest, but also one of the most rideable - and they are amazing to ride, even if the ground is way too far away!
I am in complete awe of these magnificent creatures of labor
Draft horses are just amazing to look at. For whatever reason, I can look at an elephant or camel next to a person and not really think about it, but then I see a draft horse next to a person and am blown away by the sheer size, stature, and power that they command.
Me too! I thought I was the only (i love all animals but they really do take your breath away
Just curious: do they inject steroids into these horses?
They almost look unreal.
@@shaft5No, this is simply a result of years and years of selective breeding. Furthermore, just like in human competitions, steroids are forbidden. Some steroids are only used for therapeutic purposes under the supervision of a veterinarian.

Thanks!
I think it's because we've always seen what the smaller normal/usual horses look like so we have a comparison to the jacked-up draft horses, emphasizing the difference in their size and power.
My first horse was draft horse. Out of the countless horses I've had, that draft horse was the best. Easiest to ride, most gentle, most intelligent, and best trained.
I'll take the hit on agility and speed any day for a big gentle giant instead!
@@Starlitsoul0359 and typically you never run a horse, so agility& speed us overrated.
typically at events everyone is just has the horse walking since it's just for fun and not out of necessity like in the 1800s.
Big horse is like driving a Cadillac, smooth ride 👌
So incredibly beautiful! ❣️
Hello dear how are you doing today I hope you are having a wonderful day today dear
Absolutely majestic as it gets
Clearly an expert talking about horses like a blind man about colors.
👍
Exactly like an equestrian i wonder what experimental horses are 😂
@@TPWK216a CROSS you say? How exotic!
Don't forget a "group of draft horses can weigh up to 1 ton" 😂
That's what you get from AI videos. Stupid information that makes no sense and doesn't match the visuals. 🙄
I used to take care of these magnificent beasts at the Farm Park in Ohio. Norfolk, Suffolk, Belgians, Clydesdales, and the biggest of all, Percherons. Massive and so muscular. They never got out of control. Very gentle giants. One loved to be naughty and step on my feet when they wanted food or when I cleaned their stall. Thick toed boots helped.
I see women as horses, I have learnt so much 🎉
Absolutely Gorgeous. Thank you GOD for YOUR INFINITE CREATIVITY. Amen 🙏❤️🔥
Jethro Tull wrote a song, "heavy horses"
in tribute to these majestic animals, and the role they played in our lives for many many years...🙏🇬🇧❤️
I love that song!🙏 I always think of it when I see draft horses🐴💪
Thought of the song when the term was mentionned.
Those black horses in harness stepping together were just beautiful😊
im sure you could see the same thing in person if you just look around in your area. i randomly came upon a pulling competition at a farmers market in the countryside and man are those clydesdales ginormous!
The black horses are likely friesians!
@@somegeese percherons
My mum had a shore draft growing up. She would ride down the back lanes in the local village, and would tower over any cars driving by.
damn back in time whoever got these horses dominated the battlefield
The melloest of horses. Big hearts to match.
Those 2 brown Draft horses pulling the cart look majestic asf . The size of them are astonishing
Hell yea. I clicked for the yoked up black horse but left impressed by those 2. Insane power!
Just a magnificent animal, they sure look authoritative.❤
My aunt had one of these when I was growing up. I remember I fell off him and he was so sweet he stopped and came back to make sure I was okay! :) lol oh yeah and then he stepped on my dads foot!!! lol!
Hello dear how are you doing today I hope you are having a wonderful day today dear
i swear to god.. they do not look real.
They look so god damn magical dude.
They literally look like they were pulled from some sci-fi movie.
So beautiful
Seeing these beauties in person always makes my jaw drop. Strength, beauty, grace, POWER for real.
Body of a bull head of a horse I learned something new thank you 🙏
Going to a draft horse pull for the first time was awesome.
They get super excited to pull the cart their owners can barely control them. It's like a dog when you pull out the treat bag
I rarely use this term but this horses is without question an absolute UNIT
I'm sure his unit is absolute also...
😂
Horses are so beautiful and dignified. They have a lot of charisma.
And they are not your slaves as is not elephant ours. Stop abusing them
@@indiankid8601 Who's abusing them? They work with us in exchange for food, shelter, healthcare, and usually love from their owners. That's more than a lot of humans get in return for hard work.

The most beautiful horses ever 😮👍🏾
These intelligent, majestic beings...we don't deserve them.
WOW!! They’re so freaking huge and beautiful.🤩 🤩 🤩
I love how in sync their strides are with each other, moving in unison. It’s quite beautiful. ❤
That last guy climbing the draft horse from behind.
50/100 % chance of getting kicked and killed.
I"ve been told I look like a horse, indeed beautiful they are.
Horses are precious. I don’t care about the difference, I just think one is a beautiful giant giant and the other a smaller beautiful giant. 😊
Impressive, never knew horses could be this big. They are gorgeous too, and the way they walk has something majestic to it.
I bet you can feel them coming
Facts but sad to say it they can be eaten 😂😂😂
They are so beautiful!
These horses look like strong, gentle giants, and I'd love to take one out in our pasture one day; just a nice, calm walk, and my heart would be complete ❤
Draft horses are such beautiful beasts and are far more gentle than you'd expect 😊
WTH is an experimental horse?
The fucked up ones I guess, like those ones with the weird noses
I'm guessing those poorly bred tiny dwarf horses; they look like experiments.
@Fitzroyfallz, my thought exactly. And "seven categories?" NEVER heard that, in all my years being around horses. The narrative script is silly.
@Fitzroyfallz Do you mean Arabians?
I think that means the really rare crossbreed that are out there. Never heard that term before, but there are some pretty rare crossbreed that nobody knows about, except the folks that breed them.
I have been around horses a lot throughout my life, but I have never seen horses like the 2 brown ones pulling the sled. how slender and wide apart their legs are, the width of that neck and overall build of those horses is INSANE.
It amazes me how gentle such a large animal can be - we are considering adopting some orphan draft horsies for our farm
Majestic creatures. You have to really see one in person to truly take them in, they just radiate strength and power, but a calm kind of strength. I admire them greatly.
"Most popular draft horse is the belgian"
Doesn't show a single Belgian in the video. Cuts to shots of percherons. Lmao
We had a retired Belgian at a horse camp I worked at. He was the most gentle, calm horse we had. We used him for very inexperienced riders. He basically took care of them and nothing startled him. The video didn't identify hot and cold blooded horses. Draft horses are cold and thus very calm.
This HAS to be one of the best if not THE BEST information video I have seen in a LONG TIME!!!! Please continue making videos like this and thank you for you content and time. I loved this video and the information.
My Grandfather 👴🏽 had Shire horses to work the land .
There used to be a bunch near me when I was little, you could feed them and go on cart rides, they were massive and somewhat intimidating but very cool animals, turned out that they weren’t being properly taken care of behind the scenes though, which was sad.
I’ve never seen a more beautiful horse!
That big ass black horse is the definition of horsepower.
Imagine how great of a duo a big heavy bodybuilder and a large draft horse would be, they'd be built for each other and could bask in the glory of both being absolute units
