@MDKcde yeah, but there's also studios like Konami and ubisoft is European. Square is doing polished games, but look at the price and timeline for those multi part games. I think it's AAA in general, not just American studios.
It's going to need to evolve as a whole. The stereotypical AAA great graphics = great games is stale and it has to be back by what people cared about from the beginning, which is game play and eventually story.
This is a prime example of what a free market should do. Eventually, the bad companies will either have to step up their quality or go under. This was a very entertaining watch, and I would love to hear a collage essay video.

My favorite Games in the last years are Hades and Stardew Valley and i look forward to sequels. The most AAA Games are not worth much, but sometimes they are an incredible experience like God of War or Witcher 3. i personally stoped pre-ordering long ago because , Reviews help a lot. I hope the big companies see their hubris and get inspired by Indie companies. What could big studios do with their ressources when they use them to increase their game quaility

Ive seen that most companies just add Live service to check a box, they dont need it. Looking at you Suicide Squad!!!
Helldivers 2 is the exact opposite, there is no game without live service, it doesnt mock the people that play together. They also actively play their damn game!
I still don't trust a live service game to be worse off than abandonware in 18 months or less :/
I would like to say that though big companies may be screwing up with new releases the old ones that don't get touched are still good.
What is happening to video games is the same as what has been happening to Hollywood for the last few decades: corporations smelled money, and the sociopaths flocked out of Plato's Cave convinced they knew how to print money with them and with a disgusting level of frequency they don't listen to the people who actually know what they're doing with the art form or even with the public and instead listen to some overoptimistic spreadsheet and we wind up with a mix of trash and a few diamonds, many of which are in the rough on release at best.
Indie games are holding up the game industry in my opinion most huge game companies just drop their pants and take a shit and say there's your AAA game while laying off most of their workers and give the CEO'S Raise

In terms of games with the best story, I don’t think there was ever really a time when AAA games had the best stories. It is often indie games that push the boundary of story telling in video games. Fallout New Vegas was made by a lot of the same people from Troika Games which certainly didn’t have AAA budgets, but was responsible for Fallout 1 and 2, Arcanum, and Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. Planescape Torment, Pathologic (1 and 2), and Lisa: The Painful are imo the greatest stories video games have ever told and none of these were given AAA budgets.
But let’s be perfectly clear, gaming is a young medium. Of the most common mediums of storytelling, it is almost certainly the youngest and it has quickly become the largest as far a money is concerned. To say that gaming has past its prime completely misunderstands what it looks like when a medium really is past it’s prime. Classical music is a good example of a medium that is essentially dead as of right now and, sorry Offbeat Outlaw, theater, while not quite dead, is certainly on life support right now. The hallmark of a dead medium is when nostalgia trumps innovation. While many critiques of games are saying exactly that, they usually only reference specific innovations like graphics. Innovations in graphics are getting much harder, but don’t miss out on the amazing ways games are innovating in other categories. Plus, let’s face it, good art design beats better tech everyday of the week. Dark Souls graphics still hold up even today because good art design just never ages.
I miss story based games. All these gen Alpha meme games generated in a Fortnite/Minecraft mimic factory are just... tedious, and I find I don't look forward to new games anymore. That said I also have trouble looking forward to big studio games because you know a layoff is coming after something ships, no matter what state it ships in :(
I wish I knew then not to pre-order, my biggest regret is pre-ordering diablo 4. Played the beta and thought it would be a worthwhile investment that I would enjoy ... I have yet to even download it to my system
I hope to god Capcom doesn't bungle Dragon's Dogma 2 somehow
about the only bungles they'll do is
1. some horrendously ineffective and intrusive DRM that will destroy the performance on PC
2. a bad PC port

While this was not the main point of this video I do want to add that there are some "objectively mid" games that an individual may still love a lot. I agree with the main premise of this video that we should support quality games, especially indie studios and move away from these major AAA games that don't give us much. The point of improper spending at major corps was also valid. However I do think trying out games that might interest you, even if some others didn't like it, is a good thing.
I feel lile video games aren't dying, but people are tired of seeing the same thing repeated over and over again, which is why games such as among us and lethal company blew up like they did, because they are unique.
video games are entertainment, and thus, inherently artistic, and art is crap with no passion or effort, so if companies would put effort into them, then i bet those people saying it is dying would shut up. Just show them the good ones
I mean just look at what EA did to Star Wars battlefront II or the other cancelled Star Wars games like they fucking screwed over the Star Wars fans it’s gunna print so much money but no they gotta pay LucasFilm to use Star Wars EA the third biggest gaming redemption in history with Star Wars battlefront II I mean common (ya cyberpunk and no man’s sky were worse (go fucking watch internet historians video on no man’s sky if you hate hello games for the launch still WATCH IT AND THEN SAY YIU STILL DO NOT FORGIVE THEM!)) but common EA you did so well with battlefront II then you stop it’s development then most of your developers leave because of it you do a little better when Jedi survivor came out BUT THEN JUST MORE CANCELLATIONS!
video games arent dying. the big AAA companies that make the awful games have been wounded, and if they don't change then they will go under when going up against games made by GAMERS for gamers
