Fun fact, the Fingers of Frost buff applies to all spells while active, so arcane explosion will have the bonus crit from shatter as well, without consuming the buff.. Living bomb explosion is also affected but consumes the Fingers of Frost buff. You can use imp blizz to proc FoF, making living bomb a really good addition to blizzard aoeing. ZF farms are going to be nutty.
yeah seems to me people simply overlook the strength of frost aoe farming specc and just combine it with new runes instead of force face tanking everything cause its the meta right now, but then again regeneration and living flame might just make the pulling so much smoother that you dont really need FoF for a bit of speed
For a pve perspective there is a talent build around the frostfire bolt taking points in fire and frost trees to boost it to a stupid point. You have elemental precision, ice shards, master of elements or piercing shards (you have to chose between both), ignite, improved scorch and even impact.

I guess you made a mistake with your speculation on the epic healerstaff. On the first look it might look like that it is better and magehealers then on other healers. But tbh mages dont get more from it. Since mages only scale with the addheal on the direct healspells and the arcane dmg bonus only scales on the arcane dmg spells and then boosting the healing over this, but they dont get additional bonus from the addheal on the staff. So atleast druids and priests scale with the addheal with all their healingspells and get not less benefit from the staff as mages do.
I have a take that in 5 mans mage healers will take missile barrage and instead of taking arcane blast, take living bomb. As a filler, spam rank 1 frostbolt at 1.5 sec cast to snare and proc missile barrage. In a 5 man environment, frostbolt will proc more than arcane blast bc of cast time and it's practically free to cast. Missile barrage will massive healing. This will also be a viable way to (in raid) arcane power, arcane blast with missile weave until oom (evocate or pot) then rank 1 frostbolt when oom to finish off the boss and get fat missile barrage procs.
Fire always out scales Frost in Classic. Burnout is much more damage on average than brain freeze provided you have burnout... Frost will be your heal spec, but it wont hold a candle to fire in dps...

i think fire will rule due to burn out. at lv 60 you will have all the extras for other runes and new gear plus 15 percent crit. fire will be dritting more at fresh 60 than a naxx geared player minus some sp. serious people will be at 40% crit in pre-bis raiding mc and thats before world buffs
umm... if you have 2 mages, why would they not go double burn out and share the scorch responsibility? What makes Frostfire "Objectivly the correct choice"?
Hey Scotty, this is kinda unrelated, but if you could let me know what weakaura you use on your priest for PW Shield, it would be greatly appreciated. The one that shows a transparent bar representing the shield over the right side of the health bar. I can't find it anywhere! Thanks
So in to lvl 40 with Mage: Icebarrier (the best ice talent) absorbs 438 dmg - so about 1/2 ob the instant cast of a druid. or shaman. or just a hunter bolt.. I have 1500 life. So basically I am dead instant each time somebody presses 1-2 buttons on me. Other than spamming living bomb or living flame I cant do, if I cast, I stand - I die.
What class is next? Curious about warlock. Is in a good state right now, but sheesh, those teaser runes are trash. At least give us something fun, but not op or so.
I would say mage and rogue have the best tool kit at 40 just from leveling. Spriest and boomy will be interesting Warriors will probably be good at the very end of the phase like they were in this phase. Mage boosting will be insane in this phase2. LOL, sorry man some specs are just not viable... Boomy, shadow, prot pally (actual prot, cus tank pallies were ret), and frost were simply not viable unless you were a top 5% player in P1, each phase will have its own list of viable or not viable specs.

I played only a mage in my life. From 2004 to 2023. I dont see any reason to change until I master the class.

If you have a second mage in your group, frostfire bolt is objectively the correct choice.

Arcane is a hybrid spec in p1 as well. Burnout, living flame and arcane blast is great.
I don't find spellfrost bold so usable in PVP because of the casting time. Frostbolt gonna be better
