  • In this video we cover how recording tedious or repetitive commands can help automate your workflows. We'll show how to quickly apply user-defined attributes that you may use frequently, but these same steps can be used to speed up many other processes as well.

    Hi David,
    Great Video
Is it possible to apply more connections macro in a time

  • @victorstrembitskiy7171

Hi David, nice video, I learn a lot from watching your videos. About macro, will it work with part editing features, like slit part, split beam actually? Quite often I face a situation where my beam (purlin) is adjusted to a column without any connection and on a primary stage of modeling it is not necessary to have all detailing done, so I put one long purling over the whole length of my wall. At a later stage of my modeling where all detailing must be done, I have to repeat the same editing steps many and many times. I fact what I do is: 1. I have to split my beam by the center point of my column, 2. I have to make 2 mm spacing between new pieces purlin, 3. I have to move this spacing (handles of these just splitter pieces) 20 mm aside, 4. I have to put a connection on a column with these purlings. So I was wondering I it is possible to record a macro that will automize my routine work.

Really don't know what you mean about the recording process saying that things 'outside the model view' and that when recording something has to be triggered, I assume you mean that you must 'pick' a member, but then you mentioned that pick something that has 'already' been selected, yet nothing was highlighted and then you mentioned about the ribbon, haven't got a clue what that is all about. I had done two separate week long courses at Tekla's offices in days gone by, the people there were fantastic, but sadly I got nothing from the second course, the lecturers went too fast and as you see I still know nothing, except for some excellent videos on youtube. I appreciate you dealing with this topic and I try to follow but there are aspects that still leave me none the wiser and I won't pay for another course. One good thing about Tekla is the ability to practise using an educational copy and I really appreciate that, but I have learned more through youtube. Thanks again.

What I mean is that the macro cannot record picking anything in the model (inside the view where you see parts). It can only record processes that happen in commands. So the macro has to be recorded/created "as if" parts were already selected. You could of course actually select something while recording, but that part of the process is not going to be included in the final macro. I just run through the process pretending parts are selected. If it helps, close all the model views while recording to help keep track of what can and cannot be done in a recorded macro.

Just going through your video and didn't understand the detailing status that you chose as 'connected' what does that mean please? You mentioned something about being 'outside the model view' what does this mean please? You mentioned about Quick Launch, unticking the box to remove all the normal functions or whatever they are. As you can see, my knowledge is not even basic in this regard and I have used Tekla but only in short bursts. Is there a video that you have done that explains the basics? I appreciate this video, but I think that I need the basics first. Thanks again.

As far as learning the basics, I would recommend contacting your local office about training offerings. There is some free stuff on our website as well. teklastructures.support.tekla.com/elearning/steel-detailers
The Detailing Status - Connected is simply a User-Defined Attribute, or Note, in the US Environment that a modeler can add as they are working. This helps them keep track of what has been connected - components like clip angles added to the end of the beams. Unchecking options means "do not change this value". So you're not writing/changing 50 notes, only 1.

@@TrimbleTeklaDave Hello David, thank you very much for taking the time to reply and so quickly, really appreciated. My problem with paying for any more courses is a bit of a Catch 22 situation, I need the work so that I can earn some money, but the problem is my lack of knowledge and as explained, the two individual courses lasting a week each time were not of great value, especially the last one, it was a total waste of time and money as I learned 'nothing' sadly.

Very useful video sir.. Please tell me how we published that macro to share with other co-learner.. Thank you

The macro is saved as a .cs file in your local macro directory. Other users can copy the file into their local macro directory or you could add a shared macro directory where macros for all users will be put to be loaded by Tekla. Like your firm folder, the macros folder can be seen and changed in the advanced settings and you can set multiple macro folders by separating them with a semicolon.

How we are assigned the connection shear plate or end plate or welded connection.?

    • @TrimbleTeklaDave
      @TrimbleTeklaDave 4 года назад

That is up to you to choose the appropriate connection from the applications and components library. You can automate some of it if you configure your autoconnections. ruclips.net/video/62ClqnrFZHE/видео.html

How can check that if any macro missing or welding missing.

Hi, the recorded macros only duplicate what you can already do manually. So you would need some kind of workflow to check for that. There is an extension on the Tekla warehouse that might be helpful - the Model Checker Suite: warehouse.tekla.com/#/catalog/details/u646cb5f4-7a72-4986-8786-4f1f63a13e29

This feature runs much slower than it did in older versions. Tekla should address that, performance is important to us.

Hi Fred, I notice that the UDA selection has a slight delay, but I have not noticed anything for other types of recorded macros. It would be best to contact the helpdesk with this issue so they can report this through the proper channels.
