Earlier in the episode(?) Pullo gets in a bar fight against some Pompeian legionaries. The next day when Pullo is in Antony's bodyguard the Pompeians attack Pullo, but this is of course misunderstood by Antony and Caesar as Pompey trying to kill Antony. In the show, this is the final straw that spurs Caesar to cross the Rubicon.
Blackfish: nice! and nice pic. did you notice after the gladiator fight, in the scene where there is a reenactment play, when they act out the big gladiator getting killed, it cuts very briefly to a man who looks very similar, probably his brother, with tears down his cheek. subtle.

Titus Pullo was the star of this show. He causes the mob to attack Antony, thereby creating irrevocable conditions for civil war; rescues Octavian, the future Augustus; he discovers Pompey's gold; fathers Cleopatra's son Caesarion; defeats the gangs of Rome... Am I missing anything?!
Oh my God thank you so much for uploading this! You do not know how many times I played this scene over and over again when I had it on dvd. You do not know how many times, in my drunken stupors, I looked up online. My favorite tv series of all time is Rome. As far as HBO series's go, Game of Thrones is a far second to Rome. Though GOT t'is quite stupendous as well.
Game of Thrones is very good, but it's overly dramatic and sensationalistic in every way. Especially after the first seasons, it cannot hope to reach the level of Rome.
I wish there was a book/series that takes place in a fantasy world with some logical sense in the use of weapons and magic and has an empire similar to the Roman Empire
It was so good. Too bad it got cancelled because of budget constraints. Also, in the early to mid 2000s, people were into TV show genres such as medical, crime and mystery, spy and espionage, and the likes. Historical was still not much the thing then. How I wish the writer of Rome took over GoT’s writing in seasons 5-8.
I’m really a Historical kind of film guy and I love the fact that his horse didn’t have stirrups but nobody in his position at that time in history would cut a perfectly good rope when they could untie it.
Somebody really needs to make an ancient Roman movie trilogy, with a big budget and massive battles. We haven’t had any epic Roman movies for many years. This series, good as it was, never really had the epic scale because of tv budgets.
Those Romans were legit man. Back then, they were the best of the best in warfare. Maybe not the best in any single aspect of war, but overall, they could duke it out with anyone, anywhere, anyway.
Aficianados of ancient Rome might also like "I Claudiu", available on YT. The series is from a different era and had a much lower budget, but the acting and storylines are superb.
It is a "triumphant" theme which is quite repetitive or recurring throughout the music in the closing titles. It is Roman-esque how much so I am yet discover. Certainly in regards to the notes used, it is possible on a Roman instrument.
Purely hypothetical from the show argument: If Titus Pullo would have stood guard over the gold until the legion arrived and handed it over to Gaius, I am certain he would have instantly been granted a luxurious pension plan, estate, retirement if he wanted to, and also the undying gratitude and friendship of the Dictator of The Roman Republic... Could have gone a different way.
Which is why the romans decided to call themselvs Italics since their Empire had shrunk into warring city-states. Their language, their appearence and their culture is much like the romans. Did you think that the romans just vanished like the dwemer of Tamriel (elder scrolls reference). No, the didn't, they became the italics, like the nordics becamse swedes/norwegians/etc, the medes became the kurds, the frankish became the french, iberians became spaniards and anglo-saxons the english.

He found the show's Budget!!
It would have been better if he had found it "when the time was right";)
Badjoke Maker I think that's actually why there was never a third season-it was just too damn expensive to mae
Pullo spent the third season's budget on jewelry and wine
