    I’ve done 3 unmedicated births and I went into it with the mindset I wanted to be able to get up and move. But I was also open to get an epidural if I felt overwhelmed with the pain. I never got to the point where I felt like I couldn’t handle it. I think having an idea of what you want, but also trusting your doctor/midwife to do what is safest for you and your baby is the best mindset going into birth! You got this!!

  • @Jane22223
    @Jane22223 2 года назад +75

    oh Jess I’m so sorry that people have projected onto you with their birthing experiences 🥺 I went in with a similar mindset to you, trusting God & the process of labour. I had a completely unmedicated labour and birthed our beautiful little girl. I did have a second degree tear but other than that baby was healthy and I recovered well. Keep an open mind and remember that you are so much stronger than you think! A huge affirmation for me during labour was “while I am weak He is strong” just trusting God every step of the way 🤍
    I highly recommend you check out the BirthTime documentary, it is LIFE CHANGING! 🙏

    I was definitely told “just get the epidural” and “don’t try to be tough, you don’t have to impress anyone” when I mentioned that I’d like to try for an unmedicated birth (as if that’s what I was trying to do?). It’s very discouraging, but I want you to know that if you want to try it, go for it! I had an unmedicated birth my second pregnancy and it was an incredible experience. My first pregnancy was medicated and it was wonderful as well. You are amazing in whatever you choose, and try to tune out those who are discouraging to you. I used Bridget Taylor’s videos to prepare for my unmedicated birth and I was so prepared and loved it!

      I've always wanted the epidural (i'm 9 months pregnant), and I've always heard the opposite! "Just try to go natural at first", "you're going to have back pain after", "you'll miss out on the experience" etc. I think no matter what we moms decide to do, the people who disagree will always be vocal about it

    • @savannahsais7019

      @@moodsofkiwi9285 that’s so true. It’s unfortunate that people can never seem to just be supportive. Hi Jess! My mom gave birth to my sister in the hospital after being induced and to me in a "birthing center", in water and she always said she had liked the more natural birth a lot more because she felt more respected and everything was like soft, loving and the pain was not worse. Hope all goes well for you❤️

    • @martham6
      @martham6 2 года назад +1

    • @celine3302
      @celine3302 2 года назад +1

      @@martham6 no of course everyone should be respected! but my mom had explained that the doctors in the hospital were less gentle, even agressive in their movements whereas in the birthing center they were a lot nicer and more "respectful" of her (I’m French so maybe respect doesn’t have the same connotation in English)

    Honestly birth is just beautiful. I watched my sister give birth when I was 18 (I was 6 weeks pregnant without knowing bay the time) and I loved the experience and to share that with her. Sometime that blew everyone’s minds, I would watch birth blogs, midwife shows etc and I feel like it mentally prepared me, taught me a lot of phrases and terminology, showed me tips on pain relief. I wasn’t scared to give birth at all ❤️🥰
    I went unmedicated for both births. Second birth I was induced which was more intense but I was really set on not having an epidural, not that I’m against them but for me I already had back problems, I also really wanted to feel the whole experience. My biggest tip is focus on your breathing and hot showers (or the tub if you go water birth) is amazing!! Helps a lot.
    It’s hard to commit to a name honestly, with both of my kids I had two names but also leaned more towards one then the other. With my daughter we had Natalie Rose (one I leaned more towards) and Kaylee Rose. Just looking at her I knew she wasn’t a Natalie. Even though I love that name even now 7 years later. With my son we did want Charlie but our niece was named that, then by the end it was out of Arlo (my partner loved this) and Maddox (my favourite because it’s welsh and my family is welsh). It took us a few hours but we knew 🥰

    So excited for you guys! we had our little girl 6 months ago and it has been just SO fun, you guys are going to LOVE it! I totally understand the negativity towards going unmedicated -- everybody I talked to made it sound impossible! Thankfully my mom and husband were encouraging, and watching RUclips videos of people's unmedicated birth stories was encouraging, too. During labor I just kept telling myself I could do it because I truly believed it! I loved the unmedicated experience and was so amazed by my body when all was said and done. You CAN do it if that's what you really want. that being said, I tried to keep an open mind about an epidural and will consider it in the future if I feel it's necessary. 😊

    Jess dear, I have been following you and Gabriel for a few years now, and I have never come to writing a comment up until now.
    I feel I must tell you that choosing over and over again to hear/look/see the positive in whatever it is you are looking at.. is truly hart worming and filling me with hope that there is a good place in life to live it. This is extremely important to feel having to go through numerous life challenging experiences (Emotionally is ‘main base camp’ here, if you will) which leave you with serious baggage of diss-believe in the human of man kind that is GOOD. That is SAFE TO BE AROUND that is HAPPY ENOUGH TO LIVE AROUND in this world…. And you my dear.. are a clear beautiful example for that.
    I find you pure, connected to the positive by choice, and so respectable of your inner self and you private life with Gabriel and family to be. The modesty in your soul is well preserved and that is an example for today’s generation - that I find SO IMPORTANT!!! It is beautiful, it protects the innocence in life which is so fragile in these day..
    Thank you Jess sweet hart. You are beautiful inside and out. Gabriel and your entire family is lucky to have you.. keep on being the wonderful you.. and the intention will send of the waves for someone out there to choose better for himself with compassion to his actions, hart and life story.
    I send all my best to you & family, have a happy healthy full handed birth, and may the grace in life fill your home with glory and joy of Harts , that is all that is.
    Ashirah.

    I was in a similar journey while I was pregnant and chose to go the natural birth route. I was so scared I wouldn’t be able to do it. A lot of people are negative about it so I didn’t talk to anyone about my plans really. But my birth was the best experience of my life. It was 4.5 hours long and I felt so powerful and exhilarated.. you really can do what you set your mind to. Christian hypnobirthing and positive birth stories were super powerful in preparing 💛

    I had the same mindset for the "epidural vs no epidural" decision, and I had some people look at me sideways like if I didn't DETERMINE that I wasn't doing the epidural I would probably just give in, but I really just didn't want to confine myself to a decision when I had no idea what it feels like to me. I took birth classes and tried to prepare as much as possible, and I did end up doing it all naturally with no pain meds. Deep breathing, movement, and being in the bath were my go-to's for coping. The contractions hurt, but to me it was totally doable, and I don't consider myself to have a super high pain tolerance. The pushing, however, was really rough for me, and lasted over 2 hours. But at that point I knew I was almost done, and knowing I was about to see my baby's face any minute gave me the strength I needed til the end.
    You're gonna do a great job!! And if you get in there and you decide you want the epidural, just party like its 2022 and get it! ❤ A mother's ability and stength aren't defined by the details of her birthing experience. Wishing you all the best!

    I am so happy for you guys. As for birth every person is different. People scared me and nurses pushed the medication but I did what I wanted to do and I am glad I did. I had my son natural, no epidural, no medication. The Dr broke my water at 9am and he was born at 9:29am. I had been in the hosp since 8pm the prev night due to high BP that just crept on me. Felt every contraction and every push. God was all in it. Our bodies are made for it.😊 I say do what Jess' heart wants and I promise you won't regret it. ❤🎉 Congrats again!!

    I just gave birth to my first baby 8 weeks ago and did it all natural and you can totally do it! It’s much more mental than physical in my opinion. Affirmations, knowing your body was made to do this, each contraction is just one minute closer to meeting the love of your life, and your body won’t put you in more pain than you can handle. Being able to birth my baby girl natural and unmedicated was such a huge accomplishment for me and made me feel so powerful and proud. No matter how you give birth, women are incredible but for me personally, I felt so proud of myself. You’ve got this! 💕

    Hey Jess! So excited for this next chapter for you! I’m due with my baby girl around the same time. This isn’t my first rodeo so my advice to you is to be flexible. Not every birth is the same even for the same woman so for sure have a birth plan, but be prepared to make adjustments as you go. It’s ok to decide later that you want an epidural, but don’t let people pressure you into getting one. I found mine to be wonderful, but everyone is different! Just try to relax and focus during those contractions. I found an exercise ball to be super helpful for giving me something to bounce on and do while I had contractions. Good luck!

    Just epidural input: I'm so scared of needles and IVs, so I did a natural water birth and I'm glad I did. Yes it was painful but I always felt like "I can do this" the pain never felt out of control or beyond me. In the middle of my 5 hour labor my body even slowed down contractions to allow me to nap twice to get more strength. I loved that my body knew exactly what I needed, and I think having an epidural would have masked some of my body's capabilities! You'll do great and your body will amaze you no matter which way you go though! ☺️

    Jess! I feel so connected to you in this video. I am not expecting, but I LOVE birth & educating myself on the subject. Everyone always has something negative to say when you mention any birth plan that is geared towards the mum & bean more so than the facility in which you will deliver. Water births = more work for the doctors & so their negative outlook on that trickles down into the patients they have. If your first instinct is to have a water birth & to go unmedicated, then do it! You are more than capable. You were made for this. Your body was made for this. We believe in you! Xoxoxo

    Out of experience I’m 21 years old and gave birth naturally without an epidural. It’s so beautiful knowing that we can have that strength and bring a little baby to the world. I support everyone’s opinion but always listen to your body. I’m sure you’ll know what to do when the right time comes and all that matter is that you have a safe delivery Jess. I love you and can’t wait to meet your baby 😍❤️

    Jess, I started watching your vlogs with Gabe when you were still in a long distance relationship and I just wanted to share that I am also in a long distance relationship, I always watch your videos and in your Jess and Gabe channel when I seek comfort. Also, we cannot wait for Little Jess, she don't have any idea that a lot of people loves her even when she is still in her mumma's belly.

    My biggest advice is have no expectations. I had my “dream birth” I wanted so bad to have my boys naturally but ended with a c section and I just wish I would have went in with the mindset of no expectations but praying for a safe and healthy baby.. things like that. You are so inspirational 💗

    Do whatever works best for you and baby during labor. Sometimes not getting the epidural and letting your body go through the pain can make your body not relax and not progress so at that point it would probably be suggested but everyone is different and every pregnancy is different. The only thing I always say after having our daughter is keep an open mind throughout the process because some people have a set birthing plan and you truthfully can’t control anything other than maybe your pain. As long as you and baby are safe at the end of the day that’s all that matters. You’ve got this💗

    To your question/answer about period products, I always recommend the Diva Cup & period panties (I use Thinx)! Both are a sustainable, reusable option & honestly in my opinion, soooo worth it. The undies are comfy and easy to wash & the cup is nice because you can have it in for up to 12 hours! It takes a couple tries to get used to it, but once you do, it’s a piece of cake. Highly recommend!

    So excited for you and Gabe! My husband and I just had our first baby (girl) last year and it’s been the best. If it makes you feel better about your decision for an epidural or not, I didn’t know until I was in labor. My friends thought I was crazy for being 50/50 about wanting one or not. It sounds crazy, but I wanted to see what the pain was like before deciding. It’s completely up to you and what’s best for you and baby girl 💕 wishing you the absolute best!

    I had a drug free water birth (first time mum) last year.. can’t recommend highly enough! I can’t imagine giving birth anywhere but in the water, it’s just so weightless and takes the edge off! My biggest advice is really use the breaks in-between contractions, they are there for a reason, don’t think about the contraction before or the one coming just embrace and enjoy the relief in that moment, centre yourself & take some deep breaths to re-oxygenate your body and baby. And remember you can do anything for a minute! You got this girl, you will honestly amaze yourself with what you are capable of!! Focus on all those positive stories and forget the rest xx

    Jess, CONGRATULATIONS! I'm a birth doula in NC and first off I'm so glad you are taking Bridget's course, she is an incredible birth educator. If you are wanting a water birth go for it! But do so in an educated way, so you aren't just "going with the flow". The thing everyone doesn't tell us about birth, is that our body produces natural hormone painkillers (endorphins) during labor. Those are the same endorphins that allow people to run marathons. So just as you said, our bodies are built for this. Keep reading those positive birth stories to help shift that mindset. In the doula world we talk about "KICO" and "Floppy Face/Floppy Fanny" as a reminder when laboring to keep your "knees in, calves out" which helps naturally open the pelvis, relax the face, relax the fanny. Allow yourself to fully rest between surges, ride the waves of each 60 sec surge (20sec build, 20sec peak, 20sec coming down). If you haven't already hired a doula I would definitely recommend it just to have the extra support for yourself and Gabe. Sending lots of love and support for a positive birth experience.

    You’ve got this! I have had 3 births. The first two were unmedicated and the 3rd I opted for a little bit of pain management (not epidural). I’m so glad I didn’t do an epidural because as soon as baby was born and healthy I was up on my feet and in the shower. There was no grogginess or anything like that. When it came to my 3rd I felt I didn’t want to do it completely medication free and decided to try the gas, and fentanyl. It didn’t take the pain away but it let me take each contracting at a time and cope better! Whatever you decide will be great and God is with you.

    The menstrual cup is life changing, me and my daughter both use them.
    I had natural births with no pain relief and they were brilliant.
    Had a spinal injection for a c section that didn't work, ended up being put to sleep.
    If you can do it natural go for it but if you need pain relief go for that.
    It's totally your choice.
    Also tried gas and Air for non birth reasons recently and it was really good. I was to scared to try it during birth but I think it would of been helpful xx
