    Today I'm going to be showing you how to repair a leaking high-rise faucet. It's showing it's leaking at the neck here. See all the water coming out? That's not right. It's going to be leaking down below, and we don't want that. Anyway, for this repair, we don't need to turn the water off. If you have a single handle faucet, for that type of repair you would need to turn the water off. A lot of times, this one you can do by hand, this one here. Just turn it out.
    If you did need to use a pair of channel locks, you're going to want to protect your jaws with tape like so, to prevent marring the neck here. You also could use a strap wrench for this, which is a lot better than channel locks. Because channel locks could deform the neck if you were to squeeze it too tight, it could deform or reshape the neck as well as mark it up.
    But a strap wrench kind of grabs it, tightens down and you can cinch it down and turn it out. But anyway, this one we can do by hand. Inside here, there's three O-rings, and these are the O-rings that we're going to need to replace here. Now I already know my sizes of O-rings that I need, but if you don't know what sizes you need, they do sell an O-ring kit. The stuff that I'm going to be using is pretty stinky.
    It's this faucet grease here, and if you get it on your hands, it's pretty tough to wash off. Because it's a high temperature faucet grease and it's meant to not wash off with water. When you go to repair this, you're going to want to wear gloves, and a good way to do this is to wear two or three pairs of these disposable gloves.
    You'll see reason I do this is this stuff's so smelly. What you can do is unwrap the glove, one of the gloves, in order to use your tools and not get the faucet grease all over your tool. Not get the faucet grease all over the outside of the faucet. This faucet is going to be in need of some cleaning afterwards anyway, but that's another story.
    The easy way to get these O-rings off is to use a small flathead screwdriver. I've got one in my Leatherman, so it comes in handy for this. And it's just a matter of picking these off, fairly simple. If you keep them together, you can use that to size up your new O-ring to make sure you're getting the right size. And all three of these are the same size, so you really only need to keep one together so if you needed to cut it, you could.
    Not a big deal. Okay. One, two, three O-rings, another reason for the gloves there. Now what you want to do is coat this so that underneath it, it'll have a coating of the faucet grease. This stuff can be a little tricky to get apart sometimes, and mine's getting kind of old. It's time to order some more faucet grease. So anyway, go underneath where your O-rings are going to go.

    Thank you for this video. I have recently inherited a house and have no idea what I'm doing. You made this look as easy as it actually is. Two minutes to take apart my spout, five minutes in Home Depot, and three minutes to replace o-rings and spout. THANK YOU!

    You are the man! Same problem and almost couldn't get the fitting loose with no spare parts but only one rubber ring and a sleeve around the neck of the faucet. Cleaned it up with a brush. Put it back together and bam! No leak...for now. Thanks

    I can't tell you what a help this video was to me, as well as saving the cost of having a plumber. These "O" rings last a long time but changing mine and applying the plumber's grease as indicated has fixed the leak that was starting at the pivot. I am probably over-sensitive to leaking water but it is great to be able to fix something like this so quickly and inexpensively. Thank you for making and posting this. Also for the other useful tips like padding the channel lock jaws and using paper towel to check for moisture under the sink. Cheers and a big thumbs up!

    Delta O rings are lubricated - no need for faucet grease- no need for gloves-use needle nose pliers-
    pinch the old O-ring with the pliers - it creates a small loop which you grip to pull the O ring over -
    Delta gives life time warranty on their faucets and free replacements parts, like O rings - save your manuals for parts number.

    sorry to ask this...................what if the water is turned off and the base of the spout still leaks ?.......does this mean the ceramic cartridge needs replacing ?.....also, my tap handle is loose - could this cause the leak due to not closing the ceramic cartridge properly ?................many thanks

    Thanks for the video! I have a question! My 'stem' part was slowly unscrewing itself and working it's way up the neck. I kinda noticed it a few days ago. Today my faucet started squirting every where finally. I hand tightened it back down into place but now its leaking out from top like your video showed. Is it still o-rings or something else?

Thank you so much!

    Have a similiar faucet on my laundry tub, except the neck is short and has a 90° bend...
    I unscrewed it, pulled the neck straight up, and at the end is a single o-ring. It was damaged, so ofcourse i replace it, leak comes back the following day.
    Pull apart again, o-ring was distorted, so i changed it out for another, all good. Following day, leak back AGAIN...
    Any idea whats going on? Could the whole thing just be worn out, and replacing the faucet is the best bet?

    Good job, can you tell me please how to stop leek at that third Spout in the sing! My wife uses it to wash her hair and it leeks on the bottom somewhere and only if she uses that third small shower attachment. Thanks....

    • @KungFuMaintenance
      @KungFuMaintenance  6 лет назад

      If you are asking about a spray atachment they usually have a nut that unscrew at the bottom of the sprayer. Sometimes the oring needs to be adjusted lubed and reset. Sometimes these wear out and the sprayer need to be replaced. It just unscrews form to base of the sprayer to attach to the hose.

    I have a neck-style faucet just like that, but it has no o-rings at all...when you remove the neck, the tightening nut stays captive to the faucet neck by a small round metal collar. This is a rented place, so I've only now discovered that there's NO rubber gasket at all inside, which is probably why the thing's been dribbling out the top...gonna try size-matching a little o-ring to sneak inside between the retaining piece and the threaded connector. Any other ideas?

    • @grettagrids

      I HATE these sort of faucets.. I actually preffer the old style. First my kitchen faucet broke then the bathroom so they are BOTH being replaced with a more traditional solid style. For the bathroom I decided on the kohler Forte. it's alot more solid and has a gentle arc vrs the high arc that always seems to find my arms :(

    This is a very informative video. Unfortunately, my boyfriend was unable to unscrew the neck even with the appropriate pliers, so we couldn't get in to replace the O rings. Do you have any tips on how else to get this apart?

    • @KungFuMaintenance
      @KungFuMaintenance  8 лет назад

      +Andrea Terdik Some types of faucets will have a release pin that must be pushed in or pulled out to remove the neck. Others will have an alan key or set screw that must be loosened to remove the neck. Most common threaded on type is shown in the video.

    Did you tighty righty lefty loosey this? Looked like you were loosening and tightening the wrong way. I can't get mine off...

    • @KungFuMaintenance
      @KungFuMaintenance  10 лет назад

      Yes, lefty loosey. Some of these can be tricky. Avoid squeezing to prevent deforming the neck. A strap wrench is a good way to prevent squeezing and or marking the neck. A stubborn one can be helped along by applying some penetrating oil or lubricant around the top of the neck and leaving it to sit for awhile. Some of these the threads are around the top of the nut some the threads around the bottom. I find it best to use my tool at the same location of the threads as that area is a bit stronger and gives the best result.

      Thank you. I didn't want to buy a new one, but I can't get it off... I will try W-D though as a last resort. I don't have a strap wrench.. I used a rubber glove and a good grasp. But I am a woman, and can't get it off.. thanks for the suggestion. It looks so easy to do. This leak has caused some major leaking in the back.
