      Huey sued Ray Parker Jr. for plagiarism over the theme song for "Ghostbusters", saying he'd copied "I Want A New Drug". The funny thing is that the guys in a part-time band I was in knew it before the law suit was filed. We played both "I Want A New Drug" and "Ghostbusters" and they were identical musically.

    There's one detail that's never made explicit, but it's actually central to the whole story: George is left-handed.
    Until relatively recently, many people thought that being left-handed was evil, and kids would be forced to use their right hands. As a result, left-handed kids were more awkward, seemed more clumsy, and just generally had a bad time. We see George writing - poorly - with his right hand in the cafeteria. When he tries to punch Biff and gets blocked easily, he uses his right fist.
    It was when he balled up his left hand into a fist and flattened Biff with it that he finally found himself. His life improved from this point because he decided to stop trying to be right-handed. Once he was able to feel more physically comfortable in his own body instead of feeling backwards all the time, he was able to realize his full potential.

      for some people, they'd rather have a quiet, cozy life and the game of constantly generating intrigue & excitement to maintain attraction becomes tiresome

      @@Rhodair You're right. It's not a difficult game per se, but the stakes and the emotions involved can make it hard to keep for too long. It can be also intellectually exhausting if you are juggling with multiple partners / possible partners at the same time.
      I think there is a time in your life when you have played enough and the perspective of having a stable relationship with a compatible other becames more and more alluring. So, it's not just different types of people, but also in what stage of your life you are. At least that's how it played for me.

      @Rhodair 2 года назад +3

      @@juanausensi499 oh ya, I couldn't even imagine how much _more_ exhausting it'd be if juggling multiple people lol - I'll clarify that when I refer to "playing the game" I'm not talking about multiple people; you can be with 1 person for 50 years and still need to "play the game". That's largely what I was getting at... many people think once they have someone married, they suddenly think the pressure's off and things are "on lock", but attraction needs to be persistent throughout life. Otherwise, that person who thought they'd be with you forever with have a sudden change of heart, leave, or cheat (emotionally or otherwise). Someone may even stay out of circumstance but whether someone is actually attracted to you or not is going to produce wildly different relationship experiences. Basically, you can never take things for granted. You don't always need to be full throttle, but you can also never take your foot off the gas either - there always must be some intrigue and mystery peppered in.

    So the road to finding the right person to play Marty was a long, and awkward one. Michael J. Fox was ALWAYS the producers' first choice to play Marty, but he was busy with a popular TV show at the time called "Family Ties", so instead, they cast a different actor named Eric Stoltz. After a few weeks of shooting, it became clear that Stoltz was giving a great DRAMATIC performance, but the problem is that this movie is supposed to be a COMEDY.
    They made the painful decision to let Stoltz go, and pleaded with the producers of "Family Ties" to let Fox do the movie. The compromise was that Fox would work on "Family Ties" during the day and then at night, he would work on the movie. That's why so much of it takes place either at night or indoors. Fox supposed only got 2-3 hours of sleep each night while he was working on the film.
    The casting debacle affected some of the supporting characters as well. JJ Cohen, who played one of Biff's gang (the one who makes fun of Marty's jacket) was supposed to play Biff, but he didn't look physically imposing next to Eric Stoltz (who is taller than Michael J. Fox) so Tom Wilson was cast instead. Had they gotten Fox from the start, like they wanted, Cohen might've played Biff.
    Also, Melora Hardin (who would go on the play Jan on the US version of "The Office") was cast as Jennifer when Stoltz was playing the part, but when he was replace by Fox, they decided she looked too tall next to Fox, so she was replaced by Claudia Wells.

    Fear of Rejection is probably one of the most common hang ups I run into working with men's group, hell, even I have it. Our species evolved for females to be choosy. When you think about sex in the context of pre-contraceptives, it is much more risky for women than men. A pregnancy is a very long commitment. Men had to prove their value. Obviously that has changed in modern times, but that feeling that you need to prove yourself is still there and many men feel like they don't have worth, that they aren't good enough. You see that pretty gal in the bar and that little voice in the back of your head goes "Dude she is way out of your league".

    Great reaction video. Thank you. I really love this movie. When this movie was originally made it was never intended to become a series. It was to be a stand alone movie. After some serious challenges, the studio had doubts it was going to break even. As you noticed they left the ending open for a sequel, more as a joke, but when the movie turned out to be a blockbuster in the theatres, it eliminated their doubts and lead them to reconsider and signed off on the sequels.

      He's still young and probably not paid much...wearing a suit and going to an office doesn't mean you're high in the pecking order in 1985. It usually means "top management" now, but in 1985, a suit was required of every man, women had to wear the equivalent in a dress or pantsuit. Even the lowest clerk had to wear a tie back then. The point there was he had a career and was serious about it, whereas before he had no ambition

    The best part about this reaction is when Marty starts playing for the audition at the beginning of the movie, DASHA loves the music and starts dancing, and then the guy who wrote and recorded the song gets up with the bullhorn and says "You're too loud" and she doesn't know its him! I love it. By the way, Dasha, the guy with the bullhorn is none other than HUEY LEWIS, and his band, the people who wrote and played that song, which is entitled "the power of love", is called "Huey Lewis and the News". I always thought it was cool that huey did a cameo in the film to complain about his own song. How cool is that? hahaha. Anyway, great reactions as always.

    1 Watt = 1 Joule/s, so 1.21 GW would be 1.21 Giga-Joules ( 10 to the power of 9 ) per second. With a maximum lightning strike length of 0.5 seconds, and an average power of 1 GJ/s, you could easily get 1.21 GW total to power the time machine. What is not clear is the grounding of the circuit, since cars are somewhat insulated from the ground by rubber wheels. In addition, the contact time with the power at 88 MPH ( 142 KPH ) would likely not be 0.5 seconds. The occupant within an effective faraday cage would be unaffected. Why the power requirement does not depend on the mass of the vehicle and the time displacement delta is another question entirely. Regardless of the tech stuff, it's still a great movie.

    • @brianthom6798
      @brianthom6798 2 года назад

    The 1980's definitely felt like much better time to be alive.

      It seems like everyone says that about every decade they were young in, though. Certainly, those who've been born into a life of relative privilege, and didn't have to grow up too fast during their formative years, are all but guaranteed to have fond memories of their childhood/young adult exploits, and the media they consumed during a time when they didn't have to think about the crazy stuff that was going on in the world at the time. That's the power of nostalgia for you. This very film does the same with the 1950s, seeing as many folks who were your age at the time undoubtedly felt exactly the same about then. I'm sure when I get to a certain age, I'll be talking similarly about stuff from the 2000s and 2010s, especially when it comes to movies. I will say this, though. There indeed was a lot of superb pop culture from the 1980s. 1983 I consider is among the best years for pop music, and 1986 I consider among the best years for movies, in the past century. ;)
