    6:00 - You should have seen that first dinosaur on a theater screen, it was REALLY impressive back in 1993! It still looks great today, but seeing it on a big screen was amazing.
    The cast and crew really were scared of the T-Rex. They built a full-sized animatronic one for the closeups where it interacted with the actors. It was covered in foam-latex skin, which soaked up the water and made it even heavier and harder to control. Considering that it weighed 12 tons and was prone to shaking and unexpected jerkiness, they really didn't like being near it. Even when it was working properly, it could hurt people if they accidentally got in its way. Also, it's said that the roof of the car wasn't supposed to get pushed in like that, so when it happened, the screams of terror from the kids were real.
    Now that you've seen the entire movie, do you still want to go there for a vacation? :)

    • @joost1120
      @joost1120 2 года назад +3

      The part about the car roof isn't true though. It was supposed to break through. This is a misconception coming from a quote of one of the kids, but it's misinterpreted. The T-Rex hit the plexiglass too hard and broke one of it's teeth. It was always supposed to break the glass. Just look at the scenes directly before it. T-Rex looked at the kids through that glass, followed by another scene of the kids trying to turn off the flashlights. It was set up to break through, otherwise it would've just bumped the roof. That wouldn't really be a good scene, especially not with the buildup.

      Correct me if I'm wrong, though, but the species that can change sex are only ones that reproduce through external insemination. They release clouds of gametes into the water. Thus it's much simpler for them to change sex because all they have to change is the type of gamete they release; no internal anatomical changes need occur. So it's not really going to work with dinosaurs.

    15:51: Nedry shut off the security system for two reasons: the first is to disable both the access to the cryo chamber where the different dinosaur DNAs are kept and the surveillance cameras that guard it. The second is to shut off the automatic system that powers the gates, so that the gates he goes through leads to the docks without him having to stop where his contact is waiting for him at the dock. When Nedry said he had an 18 minute window, that means he only has 18 minutes to steal the embryos and make it to the docks while the system is down and before the 3 men find out what he's doing. To answer your question about if he cares about the dinosaurs running around that'll eventually kill people, you know that answer because his reason was for money. The scene where he was having lunch with the contact in glasses, he said this: " Don't get cheap on me, Dodgeson. That was Hammond's mistake".

    • @brianrecinos3914
      @brianrecinos3914 Год назад +1

      It is because the raptor pen was not along the route that Nedry had to take on the way to the docks. The raptor pen has its own separate area, presumably away from the path intended for tourists. There are two scenes that confirms this. The first was back in the control room, when the power for the gates began shutting down. Muldoon said "The raptor fences aren't out, are they?"
      Samuel L. Jackson: "No, they're still operating ".
      Hammond: " Why the hell would he turn the other ones off?"
      The second was during Muldoon and Ellie's walk towards the power shed after Hammond ordered a complete system shutdown to erase Nedry's damage on their system. When they got near the raptors' pen, Muldoon said " The system shutdown must've turned off all the fences. Jesus, even Nedry knew better than to mess with the raptor fence".

    Jurassic Park was shot largely on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, so it’s visitable, just without the dinosaurs.
    The CG is actually pretty sparingly used compared to modern movies, there are about 50 shots that have computer generated effects (for reference, the first Lord of the Rings has over 500). A lot of the dinos are actually puppets or animatronics, like the sick Triceratops and the full sized T. Rex. The only CG shots of the Rex are the ones where it is walking or running… or eating the lawyer.

      Everything about that scene is so well constructed. My favorite bit of it is when the T-Rex eats Gennaro. It was full screen and highly visible without cutting away, and a seamless interaction between the practical and computer generated elements. Everyone wondered just how far this big PG-13 Spielberg movie would go with showing the violence, following his extremely kid-friendly "Hook" and overall toning down after "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom." The audience practically cheered at the sneak preview showing I attended.

    The story behind Nedry is interesting. Basically, Nedry and Hammon have a clash in agreement in regards to pay. Nedry believes he should be paid more than he currently gets, mostly because he is having financial issues. Hammond refuses, because he believes he is paying him fairly, and doesn't think he should be responsible for Nedry's financial problems. Nedry is frustrated by this, and agrees to steal dinosaur embryos from the park for a rival corporation in exchange for a huge sum of money. To do this, he needs to digitally deactivate the locks and electric fences and escape the park with the embryos. He is also the only one who can restore the status of the locks. Unfortunately, this also creates problems for everyone else, as the lack of electric current allows the dinosaurs to escape their enclosures. Nedry's dilema is the entire reason this movie exists.

My first jump scare, and I have never lived down being a jumper ever since. It was particularly hilarious because I had a box of candies in hand at the time, and when I jumped, the box stayed in my hand, but the candies sailed waaaaay across the theater!
    My mother loves talking about how I was so into dinosaurs at the time, so, when my grandmother gave me a toy horse, I said all the polite thank you's and promptly put the horse at the bottom of my dinosaur-riddled box of toys. But after seeing this movie, I apparently went, dug the horse up from the bottom, and hugged it to me because it wasn't something that wanted to eat me.

      In the scene where they finally get the power turned back on, I *totally* saw the jump scare coming and was determined to not get startled.... But what I didn't see coming was the fact that, because we were in the front row, we were all leaned way back in our seats with our legs straight out in front of us and being taller than the girl sitting next to me, her leg was underneath mine... and she, apparently, did NOT see the jump scare coming. She screamed, jumped and kicked the back of my leg.... I expected the jumpscare and scream, but I did not expect a kick so I jumped and screamed...and nobody expected a jump and a scream so long after the dinosaur appeared and the chain reaction continued well after what was on screen was no longer scary, so suddenly we were all laughing realizing that everyone else in the theater had no idea why we were all still jumping and screaming!

    My favorite underlying theme in this movie that I didnt catch until someone else pointed it out, was John Hammond's constant catch phrase of "Spared no expense!". Insisting that he bought nothing but the best, but he was cutting corners in all of the crucial areas. An island full of wild animals, and hes got a skeleton crew of 1 ranger, 1 programmer, and 1 operations guy? Nedry was bitching about money, and was susceptible to being bribed, so he was either just a scumbag, or he was just a regular guy who wasnt being paid well. I like to imagine that Nedry joined up because he liked the idea of what John was trying to do, and then was overworked and grew to resent him.
    Not trying to defend Nedry, just saying I can see how someone would get to the point he did. Still, what he did basically amounts to murder. The dinosaur sounds in this movie were made by combining sounds made by living animals and every day objects.
    The Tyrannosaurus rex (known by fans as Rexy) was a mix of elephant calf vocalizations (roar, snarls and growls), lion sounds and a dog playing with a rope toy (shaking the Gallimimus to death).
    The Dilophosaurus was a mix of hawk, swan, howler monkey and rattlesnake sounds.
    The adult Raptors were a mix of a walrus's chest cavity roar and a male dolphin's mating scream recorded with a hydrophone, while the hatchling was a mix of owlet and fox kit sounds.
    The Brachiosaurus vocalizations were slowed down donkey calls, while the sneeze was a mix of an active fire hydrant and a whale breathing through its blowhole(s).
    The Gallimimus's chief sound effect was made using the recorded calls of a mare (female horse) in heat.
    And yes, that Raptor popping up right behind Ellie is always a major jumpscare...especially for me with my autism and anxiety.

    Ok, I went back & watched this reaction again, and honestly…in less than a year(!) your English has gotten even better! And it’s been pretty darn good from the beginning of your channel. Watching movies, doing RUclips reactions has made your English nearly flawless, mama. You’re wonderful & kind & funny & witty & sweet & adorable - watching u “get” (fully understand) everything is truly one of my favorite things every week. U said once that watching comedies makes u uncomfortable bc u think u don’t catch everything…but I’ve yet to see u NOT giggle at humorous parts & u’ve even watched British comedies & genuinely laughed at all the funny parts. Bc u understand more than u think u do - u almost seem to think your English comprehension isn’t “the best” and I need to tell u - it’s freaking remarkably excellent! U get stuff that native English speakers don’t get. Seriously. Spectacular. Plus, you’re just the coolest😎! Please keep reacting - tons of us love u to pieces🖖

    Jurassic Park was the first film to integrate computer generated and animatronic dinosaurs seamlessly into live action scenes.
    Prior to CGI, Integrating dinosaurs with live action meant animatronics, guys in costumes, reptiles in make up, or stop motion animation models. Some stop motion animators were so artistically talented, comparing CGI to their stop motion is like comparing a photograph to a painting.
    My personal favorite stop animation effects artist is Ray Harryhausen. His dinosaur work includes: "One Million Years B.C. (1966), "The Valley of Gwangi" (1969), & "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms" (1953).

    There’s actually another RUclipsr who does film analysis who dissected Jurassic Park in its presentation, film style, etc and concluded that the movie is actually a horror story that Spielberg creatively packaged as an “adventure/thriller”. All he had to do was ensure the majority of the protagonists survived, limit the amount of graphic gore, and include a rousing, triumphant score at key points in the film to maintain a certain degree of optimism. But it still has all the elements of horror. 🤷‍♀️
