Dr, I had my tummy talk mid January one week after my 60th birthday… At two weeks I was back outside trail walking for one hour per day, prior to tummy tuck I was a runner on trails and so after my surgery I never was really tired or exhausted like some of the other women’s videos I watched… And now I am ready for more light exercise… At seven weeks I will resume my running and my surgeon says I am doing very well..
@@sharonjohnson268 Oh Im so sorry! I hoer you are doing well, did you have to have the seromas drained? I have not had that issue... I wish you well, how are you doing otherwise?
This is great advise. DO IT! You need your body to be strong during the recovery process. You will be so glad you did it and eager to get back to it after.
I started exercising after 3 weeks started with physio first week and week 5 hit the gym week 6 I was going 30kg deadlifts and 80kg hipthrust 5 to 10 kg upper body and been doing all the abb work
Thank you for your very thorough description! I am 4weeks post op -tummy tuck with muscle repair, NO liposuction- and I started walking and lifting very minimal weights.I listen to my body to understand if I’ve have enough because I still feel very tight in my midsection. My Dr told me I can start to exercise after my 6 weeks post op which is soon approaching! I have to discuss with them when to resume my core training again. I am a personal trainer and really can’t wait to get back to my workout routines. Cheers!
Thank you so much for this video and your advice. I am 4 weeks post op from my tummy tuck with muscle repair and can't wait to get back into working out. I actually lost all 100 lbs that I gain with my pregnancies, I am back to my original 120 lbs, but was left with lots of extra skin and a my abs were very separated. My plastic surgeon said they were about 3 inches apart. I started this week to go on 30 minute walks outside and I am waiting for the green light to start doing more from my doctor. Anyway, when I begin my work out routine again, I am going to base it on your suggestions, so thank you so much for this. I live it too that you focus on exercising not just to look good, but to feel good and be healthy. Thank you😃!
Thank you so much Dr for this video content, I had my tummy tuck 10 weeks ago now. There was no lipo involved in my tummy tuck as the surgeon said I don’t need to as I am 59 kg. My tummy still not flat as yet and that thing is annoying me a lot. I had discussed with the doctor about it and told me that my internal organs are big like stomach and bowel So I don’t know how much this is a curate and I would like you to answer that question for me please.
Thank you for these videos Dr Bendholm. I am getting lipoabdominoplasty in 3 weeks (hopefully no muscle repair). I love exercise so I am hopeful for a speedy recovery. Your videos are really helpful, thank you for all the time and effort.
Best of luck and I wish you a speedy recovery! Just remember that it does take some time to get back to the level of exercise you were previously used to.
This would depend on details of your surgery so it is always best to check with your surgeon. Generally, if there has been no muscle repair we would advise around 2-3 weeks time however if there was muscle repair involved we would not advise until around 6 weeks time.
My favorite is weight training. 9 month into it. Consultation with a Surgeon for a Tummy Tuck soon. Trying to prepare for an easier recovery. Then back to weight training. Preparing to compete in Bodybuilding.
Hi Sammie, no problems I am glad it is helpful! I advise patients to start gentle exercise from 2 weeks, 2-3 times per week and build up from here. Always listen to your body to see how it is responding and it is best not to rush. Check in with your surgeon at post-operative appointments to see how healing is going.
I am 8weeks and I dont think Incan get past 4k steps without my body swelling, feeling nauseous or getting my belly tight to old lady position. Prior to surgery i was running 6miles a days and lifting 225 on squads. Bench pressing over a 120lbs 😢😢 I cant imagine doing the exercises without the incision feeling like papercut😭☠️ . However, knowing these tips are Great❤. Thank you doctor for being so kind to explain
Very good info and nice dance, doctor!! LOL ... my favorite exercise is jogging and walking , do it most days of the week with spurts of full out running for HIIT ... I also like doing lower body exercises, I need to do arms/back more!
What about exercises for people with bad knees? I do low impact aerobics and treadmill with incline. I also do free weights for my arms. I do outside walks as well.
You would be able to continue with all your low impact exercises, you may also want to add some water related exercises such as swimming as these would have a lower impact on your knees. If you are post surgery then you generally need to wait 4 weeks post surgery before doing any swimming.
I’m having a tummy tuck with muscle repair in 3 weeks. Should I start working out now or is there not enough time between now and then to make a difference?
I'm having arms, tummy tuck amd thighs done after extreme weight loss. I've been doing strength training and cardio for over a year now, but I'm worried about trying to go back to my former routine too quickly. Should I wait longer to do certain former exercise because I'm having my thighs done as well?
Hi Amy, I generally recommend waiting 6 week to return to former exercise - always starting light and seeing how your body responds. It is best to check with your surgeon as they will be familiar with which technique they are using to know what would be best suited to you.
I like the leg press, leg extension, pull back and the rope. From time to time I did boxing. I’m 7 weeks post op and I still haven’t done exercise. I still feel my mid section tight like a weird, I’m afraid to workout. When is a good time for me to start
I tell my patients that the will feel normal from 3 months onwards. However you should be able to do exercise well before that. The type of exercise will depend on the surgery that you have had. I.e muscle repair vs no muscle repair. Mini vs full tummy tuck. Your surgeon should be able to advise you about what you can do. Dr Beldholm
No. You would need to modify the timeline. Main consideration with breast implants is that we do not want them to displace. You would allow another 1-2 month recovery. Dr Beldholm
Hi Doctor, thank you for this amazing video. Is it normal that my tummy is still not flat 7 weeks post surgery? I did not have muscle repair as my muscles are strong enough for a man. Please, do you believe that exercising will help flattening my tummy?
Swelling is still present at this time - final result is seen around 12-18 months time. It is always best to go back and see your surgeon with any concerns you might have.
Hi, I am 11 weeks post op, and ready to begin the gym. Am I supposed to wear my compression garment (Faja) at the gym? And if so, for how long post op?
Id imagine all these exercises are recommended after the wound has healed, therefore everyones start times will be different. Im so anxious with my wound slightly opening so exercise as much as i miss it, is a scary option for me right now.
Thank you :) Yes a person can go back to such exercise once the area is healed. It is always best to check with your surgeon, in my experience it is generally around 3 months post surgery.
Each patient will be monitored at their post-operative appointments and advised what can be done as they recover. Generally, you are able to return to gentle yoga around 4 weeks and we would wait 8-12 weeks for more intense stretching. If a muscle repair has been done we would suggest waiting a little longer for recovery.
Hello I am two months postop full tummytuck with diastasis repair. When can I start lower body weightlifting exercises such us hip thrust, leg press, deadlifts, and squats. Prior to surgery I was hip thrusting 350 lbs, deadlifting 140, squatting 100, leg pressing 200. Please give me some guidance as to when and how to start and if I should wear a weightlifting belt. Thanks 😊
Sophia. Thank you for your question. I think the best person to ask is your surgeon. My patients are able to come and see me any time after their surgery and we also reply to emails or I give them a call. The post op recovery will vary from time patient to patient. If you where my patient that I would have told you to start at 1/3 of the weight that you had before surgery and build up towards 3 months post operatively. Majority of patients are back to normal at 3 months. Dr Beldholm
Wow, you're incredible and beyond helpful ❤❤❤ Such a great human being Doctor.

I totally agree!
When you broke into aerobic exercises, I broke out laughing. That was unexpected and sooo cute 😆

There would not have been enough time to make a difference - I hope that all went well :)

Hi Krystal - thank you :) so glad you enjoyed!
What if you have breast augmentation with your tummy tuck can you do the same exercises?
No. You would need to modify the timeline. Main consideration with breast implants is that we do not want them to displace.

Doctor u are amazing i had tummy tuck last week your all vedios are detail oriented really grateful god bless kudos 👏👏👏👏love from India 🫶
Squats, lunges, deadlift are my favourites 😊
Thank you I am glad you have found this to be helpful. I wish you all the best in your recovery!
What about eliptical? 😊
Yes, this is fine to do but remember to wait 2-3 weeks and start slow.
Thank you Dr! I like that you mentioned that the best results start BEFORe the tummy tuck. Tummy tucks are not a weight loss solution.
Yes, exactly
Is swimming good post op? Thanks
Hi Sammie, swimming can be good post-op but we just have to wait until the wounds are healed - this can be around 4-6 weeks.
Walking , exercise bike , squats 😊
Squads and lunges are my favorites
My fave is dance workouts and HIIT.
HIIT is great, can fast track you to fitness

Great tips. Just one question. Can a person after tummy tuck and diastasis recti repair ( with a mesh) go back to gimnastic/akrobatic ?
Thank you :) Yes a person can go back to such exercise once the area is healed. It is always best to check with your surgeon, in my experience it is generally around 3 months post surgery.
Min 8:23 love it!😜 thank you doctor for all your tips 🤗
My pleasure!
Zumba is my favorite exercise 😄
Haven’t done Zumba myself but looks like fun and a good workout. 😀
Favorite exercise is Zumba Toning and Yoga
I think those are great exercises!

When can we go back to yoga after a tummy tuck?
Each patient will be monitored at their post-operative appointments and advised what can be done as they recover. Generally, you are able to return to gentle yoga around 4 weeks and we would wait 8-12 weeks for more intense stretching. If a muscle repair has been done we would suggest waiting a little longer for recovery.
I love❤ running I had a tummy tuck and can't run for a while 😢🤣😭😅
It is best to focus on your recovery and healing, you will get back to this in time :)
