To anybody is annoyed by the rather "large" bezels, think about it - when you're holding it in tablet mode, you need surface area for your fingers to hold onto without accidentally pressing on the screen. If this had a razor thin bezel, holding it as a tablet would be quite the annoyance.
@@kadygrant I totally agree with you guys. But, I am looking to get the most powerful 10" laptop (for flights and long drives or camping/boating). I don't need the device as a tablet. I need full windows and most power possible for the size. (as long as it's not apple though). Would you recommend something else instead? For me the bezel is a waste of space. Thanks...
@@kadygrant Well, currently i am running on asus zenbook 12" fully loaded (7500u). It's great but i would get smaller with a small performance sacrifice if i could. Also, would benefit more from a better video card than cpu power. (i.e. newer gpu but weaker cpu like i3-8100u with uhd620). If anyone is familiar please let me know (company will pay up to 2700$).

Studying computer science, and I gotta say. This thing rocks! Basic tasks work out of the box. I'm able to run and edit minor Eclipse projects and additionally with those 8 gigs of ram, I can smoothly run an headless linux distro without any problem at all! It's obviously not a monster, but for these kinda things, it just works fine!
I'd recommend trying out VSCode with the Java extensions (language + debugger) over Eclipse if you haven't already.
Can it run visual studio good ? I was going to buy this for my code works too
@@viettienle4992 The full IDE Visual Studio? Probably not well, but it can definitely run VSCode, which is arguably all you need these days. I don't have a Surface Go (I have a Surface Book Gen 1), but I use VSCode for ARM Assembly, C/C++, C#, Java, Python, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
@@unsatisfiedlol4270 VSCode works fine even on the cheapest model. I can run basic server daemons under WSL without virtualization overhead
. VirtualBox VMs also run well. It's one heck of a machine for the price and tiny form factor.
@@unsatisfiedlol4270 The surface book 1 was a powerhouse. My fiends also have that and it run VS very smooth, but it was kind too oversized and weight to carry with. But the sf go was a little bit underpower, i think. I am really unsure it can run vs studio ?
The surface Go is portable and good at software

Surface Go: Runs full desktop OS, can connect to Flash drives, SSD/ Hard disk, can download music and video without restrictions, no need to carry around a laptop everywhere with the Go to work with it, great keyboard which is much better than the iPad keyboard, the camera is better than Macbook pro.

Use mine for uni and it's perfect! So easy to carry around and it's small enough that I'm not taking up room when typing in my lectures. Love it!

I had a Surface 3 (the smallest one before Surface go), and I absolutely loved it. I mostly used it as a laptop and it was amazingly portable. I could go to class with just a notebook sized computer, and if I needed some paper document they can fit in the same folder. And when I have to do intensive assignments I use the computers in my university's computer cluster or library, also because they have a bigger screen that no laptops can compare to.
I now use the Surface laptop because the screen is much bigger and still super light weight, also because I found out that I hardly ever use tablet mode so I did not need that.

I got a surface pro for school about 6 months ago and it's honestly the greatest. Then i got a surface pen and the experience just got so much better. PDF files are your best friend.
Going into college next year and think this will be a good, affordable upgrade to my old bulky hp laptop
Its way more usefull than the ipad pro .. why? It has windows on it .. so university and school work is much better and easier

@@spritsfal5088 No it can't thats the point. You can have Windows 10 on it. I am a Student who needs Qt (A programming software) a lot. I can do it with the Go, because it runs Windows. I can't do it with a Chromebook. Thats why I got a Surface Go as 2nd Computer for taking notes in Class with the Surface pencil and use Qt, which I can't use on a Chromebook. This is why i diden't get a iPad Pro eather it's not a front to Chromebooks, I like them, but they can't run all the software I need.

@@diegoflores8626 I wouldn't go for the Go as Main, because it's just not powerful enough and too small. If you have a Desctop PC at home or something else, you can consider it, but I wouldn't go for it as main.

I’m a student who uses photoshop, illustrator, animate, and atom frequently. This will easily suit your needs, and is perfect for taking to areas that would be difficult to bring a large laptop too. The availability of not having to use a dumbed down program like procreate or iMovie when away from a desktop is totally worth it.

The iPad is $329. The Surface Go is $399. iPad is cheaper. Can't compare it to the iPad Pro. And even then, the Surface Pro and iPad Pro start at the same price, so price is just about dead even for both versions.
And iPad Pro is probably twice as fast in terms of CPU, GPU, and twice as good of a screen with its 120 hz refresh rate.

Compare this with iPad 2018 (6th gen), not with iPad pro 2018.

I love Microsoft they really nailed it on win 10 I use a windows to edit my RUclips videos I just love Microsoft I use a acer e series from 2012 still working smoothly might upgrade in 2019

Hi, this is Thomaz. I bought the 8RAM and 128SSD version and the red Alcantara keyboard for use at work. I´m a doctor and use to work in 2 or 3 clinics every day. For my use - Word, Excel, Email, PDF, Internet Banking, show some pictures.....IT´S ALL THAT I NEED in a very-very portable device. Battery life is about 7-8 hours and charges very fast even with my cell phone charger. It performs almost like my main device (Acer Aspire F15 - i5 - 8RAM notebook). Typing is excellent. Screen is MUCH better than my main device. Sound is great considering the size of the device. And is very ellegant on every table that you place it, calling for others eyes - everybody wants to take a peek.... As a travel device - excellent. I recomend it !

Extraordinary! Really like the USB-C charging.
The Surface Connect port brought down my much loved SP3. Perfect device but it won’t charge because one pin in the charging port won’t recognise the charge plug. Such an Achilles heel.
good computer for medical/work/education. If you don't like s mode just switch it to window 10 home (mode). 64gbit? Get an sd card. You can save apps or notes on there or save it on onenote/onedrive. If you want gaming, go for a different laptop or a gaming desktop.
I prefer the 128gbit and 8 ram of this. I am sure you can get it in an openbox or something sooner or later. Since I found it for 300ish something. (I guess I got lucky.)

If I were you, you should go for the other surface or a better laptop with ssd or ssd ram and more memory ram.
(Like I said, mine is used more on work, school and overall life. And I do sync a lot with my other devices. So it doesn't hurt me much.)
(Just don't get like a 64gb and not a lot ram. Because for starter the os itself take up memory/space and then their update overall/Microsoft apps update.)
Overall, It is up to you. That my opinion. But I i wish you luck on your decision. :)

My 10.5-inch 2-in-1 running Windows 10 that I bought new for $130 on sale at Walmart works just fine for me... Note: FOR ME (email, web surf, youTube and movie watching, Skype calls, document creating, picture/video recording, 3D Photogrammetry recording for later download/processing)...

I have this computer and honestly this exided by far my expectations. It is very portable, it weight nothing, and it is very fast because of its ssd. And actually you can play games in this little machine. Just set the settings to the minimum and the game will run smoothly roughly 25 to 60 fps depending on the game.
Watched this video on my Surface Go. I have the keyboard, pen and mouse. Don't really need the mouse as the trackpad is great. Typing is excellent on this. I use OneNote as a journal/note-taking. It's good as for RUclips / MS Teams conferencing / Zoom conferencing. Might not be powerful for learning advanced programming but I got a simple python editor downloaded no problem. Oh and, no Procreate but I have iphone so I draw on there. Awesome for productivity as there are not a lot of apps lol.

The Surface Go is neat. Imean, a full desktop OS, an x86 CPU, you can't go wrong with it.
You could get the Surface Pro 3 for about $240, I'm using it now and it works perfectly
I really like the surface line. I just think they always feel really solid from a hardware standpoint. I prefer the big surface book 15 inch but that just for my own use. I think they have a good chance of replacing a laptop since they run a full desktop OS.

Hey Lou, Surface Go, is great, I have been using it a lot for the past 2 months and I can tell I do a lot in it. I have my Workstation Laptop but as you mentioned, the form factor is simply the best. And it is powerful enough to do many of my main and simple tasks. Also, the USB-C port supports PD, I always use a 45W PD Charger and it takes 1 hour or less to fully charge from 10% to 100%. I simply love it.
I think you nailed it with the comment about this device being better for typing, and the iPad being better for general video consumption. (netflix, hulu, etc) The thing that I hate about iPad is no mouse functionality. That's a real deal breaker for me. Maybe I'll try this. $100 off right now at Costco, and with a keyboard. Only downside to the Costco bundle is 4GB of RAM.
Just got mine from Costco and let me tell you, it is amazing! I didn't take my computer out of S mode as all the apps that I need are in the Windows Store.

I am a postgraduate student. I used the surface go as a full Windows device for 2 months. i take notes on it and work on my assignment and projects. I also use SPSS on it. the main problem is the battery. it doesn't last long maybe 4 - 5 hours. also because the screen is so small working on excel and data is a struggle. but overall if you want something to carry with you, this is the one.
The Surface Go (8gb) is great for me to have for my nerdy life, for light web developing, remote gaming with parsec, using my powerful desktop remotely, light gaming with steam games, emulators, etc. using it as an auxiliary screen at my desk, or taking work notes with the pen/keyboard it's a super great investment.
Core Paradox It's better than a celeron netbook, but Microsoft shot themselves in the foot when they decided not to give the surface to the core m3 processor it deserves. It's just barely powerful enough for a good Windows experience.

I have Surface Go because I travel a lot. This device is excellent for email and simple MS. Office application. The best part for me is the mouse input, which is available in Windows 10SE, unlike anything iPad can offer - because I need to work with MS. Excel and MS. Project.

I recently purchased the Surface Go with 8GB Ram and 128GB SSD with the basic keyboard. Totaled to $650. My main computer my 2014 Macbook Pro, and still runs like a champ. But this Surface Go is an AWESOME on the "GO" companion for computing. Great for browsing, watching videos, email, and some lite editing ... along with logging onto all my military needed sites with a CAC reader. People complain about the bezel size, but it's also a tablet so those come in handy when handling this w/o a keyboard. My only complain, and it's not a major one is the 1 USB-C port. I feel like they could have fit a USB 3.0 port on the other side, but no biggie. Glad I am even able to access any USB device I plug into it..........AND IT HAS AN SD CARD SLOT!!! Major win there.
I love my Surface Go. A pro is too large for my day to day work (I am travelling to customers all day). I have a Laptop for stationary work. The little go does everything I need to do and is super portable. I have always been a Surface fan and I love it.
Watching this on a Surface Go. iPad can never be used as a stand alone computer. Surface Go has a full operating system and a file browser.

I just love these kinds of devices... Its as if someone took a whole computer and tried to turn it into the size of a phone... But then they noticed that its only 2018, so they stopped at this size
I've always wanted a laptop of my own but never got to cuz I don't have enough money. So until i have enough money to get my own laptop i will be sharing laptop with my brother. Seeing this kind of videos makes me wanna work really hard for my future.

The entire Surface line is fantastic. I use a Surface Pro 6 as my main computer at home,with a Surface Go for when I'm out and about. Both have done everything I've thrown at them with zero complaint. I attached an external SSD to the kickstand of both to expand the storage, programs run just as well from either location with no lag. Sure the CPU in the Surface Go is not the best on the market for portable tablet computers, but it's hardly the worse, and the price is more than reasonable for what the Go can do . The only reay complaint I've had is the screen on both the Pro and the Go can act as mirrors no matter what is on the display, that can cause some visibility issues outdoors in natural sunlight. Besides that, the haters can go hate someplace else - the Surface Pro and Surface Go are total keepers until the day they die.
I'd get this for my daughter in a couple of years when she needs a computer for school.
I bought this surface pro and a week and a half later decided to give my father my 10.5 ipad pro 256 gig. i agree with the review. the keyboard makes the difference. Then on top of it there is windows instead of IOS which is far superior in my mind.

i'm using it in college for about a year now...totally recommended if you don't run anything too heavy. I even able to use Adobe XD and edit term project video with Animotica too.
Surface go is fine, but for college, maybe u want a surface pro 4/5/6. It has a larger screen, better cpu and gpu

@Christiano Delgado Macs have the worst user interface in the world in my personal opinion, I have the Surface Pro 6 and it is a beast, as an art student who had the iPad Pro, I am glad I made the switch, works for my lectures and seminars and is great for photoshop etc.
Definitely switch over. You'll see that it is way stronger than what it leads on. I have a surface go and I have been able to run AutoCAD 2018, Adobe Photoshop 2018, Adobe Illustrator 2018 and many other apps. I know the surface go at first won't seem like much at first but for the price and power that it has, it is totally worth it!
Tablets with desktop operating systems is becoming the Holy Grail of the genre. As a long term Apple fan I really like this for many reasons. The price and the OS in particular. Thank you so much for the review. Please keep this genre as a priority because I think from this genre the future could very well emerge.

I have this and love it. I love the portability. It does the job I need for it to do, spreadsheets, email, photo editing in photoshop (i dont do intensive graphic designs fyi), it doesnt lag. I disabled program at start ups. Im a regular user. I love my Go. Have the 8gb/128gb. All good. Cant wait for the next iteration

I love the GO. It's a perfect companion device that you can take anywhere and use for multiple tasks. Battery life is average at best, but it charges over USB C which is a great alternate.

In my opinion the surface books are the closest things to laptops more than the iPad pro and the pixel book. Because it's runs windows and can run actually school/work programs and it looks like micorosoft have been doing longer and have been working longer on the surface books and it looks more built device. my opinion tho

Its a good tiny laptop on the go for some emailing and light browsing, but if you only use it at home, it gets destroyed by laptops and tablets in the same price range.

What we need is a docking station and a foldable keyboard. Both exist already ... not sure why it didn't take off.
The concept is great. A phone on the go, at home or at work your phone as a PC with a docking station (with better specs).
I got a surface go, I've been using it for java script/html programming it's been a fun experience. Also, LEONARDO Drawing app is the absolute best purchase if you are a microsoft surface artist :)
iPad pro is a joke. Apple claim its can replace your computer. But in fact you cant running desktop apps on iPad. Even you cant connect to external HDD.

Its not supposed to run macos apps. You have different workflows for ipad.
iPad is more to play tab than working tab, so many games and surprisingly have vector graphics like Flash. (I wondering this since long time btw) For work, it more suits to artists than non-artists as drawing on this tablet is really good and there just basic apps like Office to suits the work.
True, it almost doesn't make sense to buy, if someone gifts it to me I'll re- sell it!

TBH, I use may surface as my main driver at school. It's a great way to organize your notes if you find that your room is cluttered with half used notebooks from multiple classes. But honestly I go to my ipad for media & entertainment, IOS just makes it way easier to navigate to youtube or reddit than using my surface.
I like the go.
Especially at my work, I get my work done twice as fast since i travel almost everyday and it is much quicker than laptops.
That being said, the bezels are huge which id be happy to pay a hundred more to get away

The Surface 3 with the Atom cpu and 2GB of RAM was the least powerful made.
1800X1200 is the same amount of pixels as 1920X1080.
The aspect ratio makes the horizontal and vertical pixel numbers different, the pixel count remains the same however, so it's as good as Full HD resolution.
I'd skip an Ipad any day for this device! It easily gives me the option of switching from Tablet mode for leisure or Desktop mode for work. You might also be surprised to find Microsoft Store has a good amount of apps available for download. But if not available in the store, no need to worry since it can easily download the full desktop version. Great device Microsoft!
