Grobee true but you get less ram less storage no sd card and limited expansion no sub c But it does have the app store for iPad higher poo less glare and quite a bit faster when not multitasking
The Surface Go should not be compared to the iPad Pro since it runs iOS, rather it should be compared to the MacBook. The operating system should be prioritized over form factor and price point.
This is a tired comparison already. If you want a tablet experience with a few laptop usability, the iPad wins. If you want a laptop experience in a tablet form factor then go with the many windows tablet solutions. It’s not a “which is better?” question, but a “what do you need it for?” question.
Doggy Doge - I bought an iPad because I have android phone. If I had an iPhone then I would get an android tablet. Windows has the best 2 in ones. I also have a SurfaceBook
It can be a laptop replacement. I used a surface 2 during my college years, used MS excell, PP, Word, downloaded files in excess. There was barely anything I couldnt do with the microsoft surface. I always had it with me since it has notebook and the pen. Never used notebook and I still have all my notes saved from those years. Its an amazing product.
Marius Muntean I was referring in storage terms. Of course they are both garbage for video editing. Sorry for the confusion. It’s just on iPad storage can’t be expanded.
Surface Go is better compared to the iPad Pro, not the iPad OriGinal. I think its more like this: Surface Go vs iPad Pro Surface Pro vs MacBook (12 inch) Surface Laptop vs MacBook Air Surface Book vs MacBook Pro Surface Studio vs iMac Pro
Hey Dan. I really liked your point about each company trying to reach the same goal from very different positions. It's a good way to understand the differences.
Grobee Sure, but the Surface Go is still arguably the better option at this price point and size for work related tasks, IO and functionality, especially with the keyboard cover and pen. The iPad isn't a main computing device and neither is the Go. They're complementary, secondary devices at best. Computing needs and preferences should dictate which one to go for.
As a long time ipad user - i can say that using the ipad in landscape with the keyboard is not weird at all... the home button is only really used as a fingerprint because you can use the 'home' button on the keyboard... the camera also works extremely well whether in landscape or portrait - it is very weird that you mentioned that because ALL tablets and phones have that same 'issue' when you switch between landscape and portrait. The idea of the tablet is to be a handheld device - most do get cases or covers to use as a stand...it's not for everyone, but i can see why having a built in kickstand would help - although you are screwed if it gets broken... apple try to have no moving parts because this means less chance of things going wrong. The surface go in portrait mode doesn't work well - icons bottom and side...and it makes the screen look very thin and awkward for reading. It's still more of a portable mini PC in tablet form, rather than a tablet that can be quick and comfortable to use as a book in reading mode, to tap into portrait gaming, to view your stunning portrait pictures -- granted, ipad does work well in both portrait and landscape BUT it lacks a PC feel... everything feels like a cut down version, some features don't work well or are missing, sometimes it's literally an iphone version with higher quality images -- i wish apple would create a dual boot and allow a touch form of OS X on tablets...but they wont. For me, the ipad does feel very dated and it now limits you to what you can do. The surface go, is still trying to be a PC but windows is too buggy and old and certainly underperforms on budget windows machines. I would never shell out money for the ipad pro 12" -- i'd by a laptop...But the same with the surface go - at $399 it's reasonable, but it doesn't work well as a tablet and isn't powerful enough as a PC/laptop machine...so then you go up a tear, add the pen etc and then I'm also in the laptop price zone for what is meant to be a budget device. I'd recommend the ipad for those who like sketching and want a quick on the go experience for basic stuff - it is essentially an oversized iPhone with some great creative apps... i wouldn't recommend apples keyboard and the pencil is only for drawing - writing isn't great. I'd struggle to recommend the surface go becuase the entry model is underpower and the next model stops being a budget tablet... i also wouldn't recommend it because essentially you need the keyboard for a good experience and the pen is required for good notetaking (it's a nice pen for writing, not so good for drawing). I'd say - for apple users, consider the ipad for a secondary device. For windows users, get the surface pro for a better size and more for your money (especially now that most places have deals with office and a keyboard thrown in) If you really want the surface go - wait... in a few months the deals will come out... i also think microsoft will lower the price - the starting price should be $299
6:40 You don't need to use your finger to "basically operate everything" you could use CMD + SPACE to open spotlight and from there search anything in any app
I hope Microsoft does work on the tablet UI. I think trying to maintain one interface for all things leads to too much compromise. My suggestion? Take a page from the book of Linux, where you can install different desktop environments and switch between them. Windows should have an opt-in classic shell for traditionalists who want it, and a default modern shell that leans on the strengths of Windows 8.
Rohit Bag Yeah, I've read a little about that. I guess it's good things like the Surface Go are getting pushed out even if it's not perfect, because if it flies that's more incentive to work on the tablet side of things.
Kevin Burns You can see a tease of CShell in the Surface Hub 2 launch video. It's gorgeous. It'll allow for custom yet consistent UI/UX catered to each form factor. 😊
Rafael Espinosa considering it has windows updates, most likely no. From my understanding you can stop updating but they would only stop updates if they stop supporting windows 10, which I don’t see happening.
Benoît exactly, that's the point. This thing is a full PC desktop attached to external monitor mouse and keyboard, plus it's a full laptop, plus it's a poor tablet. It's 3in1. In this way this Surface can be a true unique phone - companion for people who want 2 personal devices. Instead the iPad, as you said and I agree with you, is a third personal device not being able to be a true pc. Interesting competion here
I really admire both Go and iPad for trying to converge towards a "dual purpose" laptop/tablet experience. I'm still stunned that stodgy old Microsoft has turned Windows into a competent, if not slick, touch-based operating system, while Apple has taken the original first underwhelming iPhone operating system and first slow ARM chips and turned the iPad into the best touch system in the world, with ARM chips that are faster than both the old Atom series and the new Pentium Gold ("Core M wannabees") processors. As one commentator noted, perhaps this comes down to a battle of operating systems, not of hardware. But I think you nail it when it really comes down to "productivity" (which is code word for "typing" and "Office") vs "consumption" (which is code word for slick touch interface and tons of handy, albeit almost single purpose, apps). I can't buy everything new that comes out. So my travel kit is a compromise of Surface 3 with Keyboard Cover for email and banking (easier to type in passwords) plus an iPad 2017 (or Air with LTE) to Netflix and browse. My one gripe is the Surface 3 isn't "lappable" short of a laptop desk. Yeah, I DO like the Go, but not sure about the size. I like the 10.8" of the Surface 3. On the other hand since Word is free for 10" screens, maybe the Go will drum up some Office customers for MSFT.
AcresceNtRMoonT yea. That’s a huge limitation of iPads. ARM while more power efficient can’t do as much as a x86 based CPU no matter how powerful it is
2. things. 1. its not workarounds. Those Operating Systems were designed for ARM. 2. i agree with you. Windows 10 is buggy. Windows 7 were the days. However, more devs use Windows than Mac. Windows is more flexible and allows greater resource access. Windows has better API support.
I've always felt the battle between Apple and Android as more of a subjective choice. But the battle of Apple vs. Microsoft leans more on user needs and how deep is your pocket. Kind of ironic that a microsoft product would cost more than a similar Apple product.
The main problem with the Surface Go is that Windows 10 is not optimized as well with tablet mode compared to iOS on the iPad. I’ve used windows in tablet mode and every single time I do that, I always resort to using the keyboard and track pad. The Surface Go is good in theory, but it’s designed to have the keyboard in mind. If the Surface Go works best with a Keyboard and track pad, why not just get a regular windows computer? That’s why I think the iPad is the better buy. It works well as a tablet and it can work decently with some laptop tasks, even if it’s not necessary. In contrast, the Surface Go doesn’t work as well as tablet compared to iPads, but also doesn’t as work as well as a regular windows laptop. Overall, the Surface Go is a good idea, but it does seem to be too compromised to be effective at the jobs it was designed to do.
I think that's because the ipad's are thinner on the sides, and maybe has an excuse for thicker top & bottom bezels because of touch ID. I don't think the bezels on the Go are a deal breaker, but it would have been nice if they were a little thinner.
As stated in the video, bezels serve a function but yeah maybe they could get away with being a tad thinner. I think the ipad bezels look uglier though.
The bezels on the side of the ipad are much thinner, but the bezels all around the go are around the same thickness, which makes it stand out more. Not a big deal imo but people are picky
Because of how you have to hold a tablet thin bezels can be a drawback... EVERY time I hand my Galaxy tab with thin bezels to someone some other app or feature activates because of a touch to the side of the screen... VERY annoying. so I wouldn't mind bezels that a decent sized thumb could fit in without activating something...
@@steveh9714 Well you still have bezels to hold it from, and the top and bottom bezels on the ipad. And apple iOS ACTUALLY has had, and still uses software to detect accidental touches due to the smaller bezels. They've had it since the mini Edit: Here is a source I've found thenextweb.com/apple/2012/10/23/apple-tweaks-ios-to-better-detect-accidental-touches-due-to-ipad-minis-thinner-bezel/
The repeated claim that iOS is a mobile OS and therefore better than Windows on a tablet is not exactly true. iOS was developed from OSX from the Mac. They stripped a lot of features out and added touch gestures. So Windows 10 tablet UI, which is different from W10 desktop UI, is exactly the same except that MS didn't remove features. So even in W10 tablet UI you can still use a mouse or trackpad, run full desktop programs as well as apps and have things like user accounts.
The Surface Go is better simply by having touchpad support. iPad is not nice to hold and using a keyboard is dumb when you have to reach over and touch the screen to do anything.
As he said, It's clearly a matter of use: if you're going to use it primarily as tablet, the iPad is a better option; if you're using it as a computer or a productivity device, the Surface offers so much more.
I vote iPad for the simple reason that the question was about the best _tablet._ Windows has never been a good tablet experience, with a limited store, clunky layout, and overall less user-friendly interface. That’s the reason you never see a Surface out in the wild without the keyboard.
With some improvement, I think the Windows 10 tablet experience would be the way to go in the future. Android tablets and iPads personally still look and feel like blown-up phone UI. There's still huge amount of empty space on the display.
I’m very satisfied with the Surface tablet experience. Your opinion doesn’t speak for everyone. Surface wins hands down! I like apple a lot, but let’s be real, Microsoft is leaving apple in the dust when it comes to innovation
There are times you need to use a mouse on Surface tablets which is a pain! That's why I rather use an iPad or even an Android tablet. Also iPads have lots of touchscreen apps which are properly optimised. Most Windows apps are not properly optimised for touchscreen experiences, not even close to Android tablets.
T8PolestarCyan how is it a pain? It’s a tablet/laptop. iPad doesn’t even have mouse support (which sucks!!!!) and the fact that you actually mentioned android (which are trash tablets) shouldn’t even be mentioned! Apple iPad is a toy. All this “apps” are games and gimmicks, when you need to get work done, Surface destroys iPad. Again, i like Apple a lot; I own Apple products and love them, but Surface has become my go to when it comes to getting REAL WORK DONE!
Israel Ruelas Where there are touchscreens with proper interface, there's no need for a mouse scrolling and pointing to specific area needed. Touchscreen is a lot quicker to navigate and to open apps. Surface is frickinly fiddly in comparison.

I'm about to get a tab. But I'm so torn, specifically between the iPad pro to-be-debuted and Sammy Tab S4. Could you please address these queries and forward any suggestion you may have? Any input would be much appreciated! 1. What I really require is an on-the-go document editor, specifically text document. I need to read, compare, collate and edit Word and Pdf docs on the go (while traveling or commuting) and that too, on multiple windows. 2. I'd also like to catch a break and therefore would like my tab to be a fine entertainment device. Picture quality and audio should be real good. Not external audio, though; but audio through headset. The speakers would almost NEVER be used. That's a certainty. 3. I also would like to scribble on my tab. I need to take notes and writing is much better than typing it out. 4. I am dead set on iPad and am in fact waiting for the latest Pro iteration. But as one who has only experienced the 'open' atmosphere of Windows or Android (I've NEVER experienced iOS), how do I transfer files to an iOS driven device? Do I have to constantly change doc-formats (specifically AV files) every time I need to stream them to my iPad, from my PC? Because if I have to, then it simply is not worth all that hassle, now is it!
Just your usual nerd review that talks about numbers and not user experience. Try using any MS product for any extended time and see how it compares then. Half-baked apps, driver problems, weird hardware issues, unpredictable battery life, and then you have to guess if this will be another product that gets abandoned after two years.
@Siddesh Gannu I used a Windows phone as well as the surface. Really nice hardware but it was perpetually broken in one way or another, mostly on the software side. Windows 10 is no better. They have made it too "exciting" whilst some basic functions that actually matter have been in a broken state for years.
You forgot to mention that the operating system for the Surface is the castrated app store version of Windows 10, which you _can_ upgrade to the full desktop version free of charge _at the moment_ . From what I have heard, it is by no means certain that this option will remain available indefinitely.
I really appreciate the lack of bias in this review. You hit on the good points of both products, and do so efficiently. That said, the surface definitely doesn't weigh 520 kilograms bro.
teeXtra I'm going to buy a surface go to supplement my surface book 2. It'll be how I take notes in meetings, send quick emails, consume content, and get a full computer experience on the go. The surface book will be for CAD, photoshop (which the pen is still necessary for), video editing, and serious gaming. Each has it's place.
SAVIOR OMEGA interesting. Hope that works, I have an SB2 + iPad 10.5. Only thing worrying for me is Go's battery life. 7 hrs vs 10-11, not to mention standby times is a pretty big gap.
Zyzzus Christ - Your so-called "question" lacks basic common sense. Obviously the Surface Go would have TWO operating systems on it. If I have to explain something so obvious to you, then please just remove yourself from the conversation to avoid further embarrassment.
Mukhundh Bhushan But still you should have superhuman power and abilities to carry it around. Are u a professional bodybuilder or a strongman competitor. Otherwise just be content with an ipad
After your opening line I always expect you to say "this is Lisa from mobile tech review", because you guys have the same modulation and intonation of voice!
Vinsensius Gracia but I have a laptop which most people have and surface suffer from thermal throttling and as I had one before the quality is not quiet as good as the ipad
Why not compare it to the iPad pro 10.5? That is a better comparison. However the Surface Go is a better value if you compare the cost of the Apple Pencil and Smart keyboard.
I was wondering the same thing, but I think the cheapest iPad Pro starts at $649, while the base Surface Go is $399. Quite a big difference, though a comparison between the $549 Surface would have been interesting.
I agree that the iPad was clearly built to be in portrait given the fingerprint reader and camera placement, but I don't think that excuses the large top and bottom bezels.
Which of these 2 models would you recommend for someone who wants to take notes, write essays and create power point presentations for university, but I also want to film sprinters with the camera in normal speed and slow motion and then edit the videos and create Kinograms for example. Thanks for your help.
For a tablet uses (watching Netflix, watching youtube, emailing) I'd choose the ipad But for a tablet/student uses (connecting into a projector using a vga adapter, taking notes) the surface go is 2x better
Surface is still a better experience for those things due to the aspect ratio, kickstand, and the mytube app for windows which is a vastly superior experience to the native youtube app on ios (and not just because there's no ads). TBH there is no solid justification for an ipad over a go
I am conflicted between the Surface and the Ipad. I am planning on using a tablet with my Thinkpad T480 for my nursing school. I would do most of the office work on the Thinkpad and use a tablet for reading etextbooks. Do you think the Ipad will suffice as I already have a proper laptop for actual work? Where I am in Canada I can get the Ipad 9.7 32gb for the half the price of a base Surface Go through a bank promotion right now.
The 400$ surface go has trade offs not mentioned by the reviewer. The lowest tier 400$ version has 4 gb ram and most importantly only 64gb Of slow emmc storage. Making the Windows experience less than stellar. The base model surface go should be compared to the base model iPad. And the mid tier surface go, like the reviewer has, should be compared to the iPad Pro.
To me, it's simple. If you're in the Windows environment, get the Surface Go. If you're in the apple ecosystem, then the iPad. I'm actually upgrading to a higher spec'd Surface Pro 6 (from Surface Pro 3) and getting a 1st gen iPad Pro because I love both pens for different reasons.
This one feature makes a whole lot of difference USB-C port. With that you suddenly lose storage problems that plague iOS devices, even connect a mouse etc etc.
I use the Surface go to teach online classes. I use a Bluetooth keyboard. Not great but saving up for the keyboard and pen so I can screenshot. Thank you. Great video
iPad is better because of the range of apps available. There is just too limited selection in the Windows app store to be able to use the Surface Go as a true tablet replacement.
Strangely enough, the comment section is the one biased here, while the reviewer expresses his opinions just in the very last 20 seconds after an objective review.
microsoft please first try to fix what is broken. in your case that will be windows. no amount of hardware innovation will matter if the core of the product has issues.
Oh is it.... well my experience with windows os is very different from yours or the business world then... maybe thats why Microsoft these days is increasingly pushing for hardware and software optimisation on their new hardware products following the Apple's philosophy of "people who makes their own software should make their own hardware".
Caseko CSK you might be right, but I feel like this product is marketed toward students and for that, this will do a good job. I had a surface 3 and using it for school was great.
@Joshe505reborn: I mean iPad Pro (or iPad 2018). With Apple Pencil and Procreate, the drawing experience on that tablet is amazing. I don't know if Surface Go will have a bump up on drawing capability (which is unlikely since it's basically a cheap version of Surface line), but so far, Surface is still lagging behind in drawing technology.
Caseko CSK in terms of apps you are correct. I was only thinking of the surface pen. If it’s Surface Pen vs Apple Pencil, Surface Pen wins. I like the eraser on it and the buttons and feels nicer and more natural. I own both so I’m not being bias.
@Joshe505reborn: I was talking about the spec though... like tilt and rotation support, pressure sensitivity level, lag, parallax, and so on. And some people don't use eraser button anyway. Undo or eraser shortcut works better for me. I don't like apple btw and I avoid apple products like a plague... But iPad Pro and apple pencil is an exception. If only iPad Pro supports Windows OS...
You didn't watch the video, did you? Personally, yes, I prefer Surface Go. But the conclusion of the video was not that Surface Go is better than iPad.
Just joking. But when you are called Windows Central, people think you have a bias towards Microsoft. I don't subscribe to your channel for hardware reviews, but more in depth look at stuff.
i too respect Windows Central. However, i really hate apple now. its because the macbooks are crap now and i fell as if Surface Pro is taking over tablet line up. Few more improvements to Windows 10 such as better tablet mode and Surface Pro will fully replace iPad.
But dual boot will be awesome. I never experienced good performance or app support/sensor support by emulation. If Microsoft want they can really do it. Recently team member at Microsoft mobile has revealed that they are really working on a non windows phone. Also they have helped to improve Dex experience on the new Samsung TabS4. So if they carried out that work to this and made a dual boot version, it will be awesome and an iPad killer both as a mobile app supporting device and laptop replacement. But in reality Microsoft will never do any thing exciting. So their place will be taken up by chromebooks, iPad and android in tablet category as always.
well it has an x86 processor while android optimize for arm processor, so not a good idea. Asus did put an x86 proc on their phone but it was a failure. Emulator would be a better choice
Ya that's the point. Android x86 exists for some time and windows on arm also exists. So it is technically possible, but not going to happen as I know Microsofts way
Microsoft cannot excuse for worse graphics and worse tablet experience than the iPad. For the last 3 years, they could've improved it bit by bit, and it'd be much better now.
Ahmed Nauman Tariq it's a little more complicated than that. It's actually the x86 vs arm issue. I believe the intel hd 615/630 might be more powerful since they have been able to run games like GTA5 and Doom2016. The ipad has a faster cpu but you can't run serious games. The Surface is probably better for a serious gamer while the ipad for casual gaming.
Anil Chandran the ipad doesn't even have pubg. It has pubg mobile. The Pentium gold should run Asphalt 9 just as good. The Pentium Gold is actually nothing but a underclocked core m3 7th gen. The main thing is the Surface has more games which can be tweaked to run along with access to steam. The iPad has to have special mobile version games. I can't vouch if the ipad can run csgo or doom since those games would have to be made from scratch for arm.
I don't know about Pentium gold. But old Intel atom processor tablets were slower than 200 dollar android phones in store apps. And considering this is as a spiritual successor of surface 3, I cannot expect much from it.
If you'll want power why don't you'll get a surface pro? This is a entry into their lineup. The surface pro i7 would probably be 2 times more powerful than the ipad pro.
I don't get the constant comparison to the iPad which is a tablet with very little flexibility for productivity. I have been using a Samsung Galaxy Tax S2, which includes a usable version of Office, a micro SD card slot for back up and storage, a full file management system, Bluetooth keyboard and mouse compatibility, OTG cable compatibility for connecting external devices such as a flash drive, and a sufficient number of apps for both productivity and media consumption. Tablet ($350.00), keyboard ($20.00) and mouse ($5.00). So for about $375.00 I have a system that is capable of minor laptop replacement tasks and media consumption in a package that weights less than 1.5 pounds. iPad simply can't do many of these productivity functions.
Interesting that, for the Logitech keyboard for iPad (which I have and is a very nice typing experience, despite being a little fugly) the fact it uses batteries was a downside, but then moments later, the fact that the Surface Pen uses batteries was a plus... and Logitech advertises two years of usage on one battery for that keyboard, compared to the Surface Pen’s one year (I’ve had my keyboard for months, use it nearly every day, and it still has 100% charge). Also, it is definitely goofy, but the Apple Pencil charging method is oddly convenient if you need to charge it quickly on the go; and charging it for 15 seconds gets you 30 minutes of use. I have a Surface Pro 3 alongside my iPad 9.7, and I love them both. I’m genuinely interested in the Surface Go, and kinda do wish it had been available when I bought my Surface Pro for a similar price at a pawn shop. Probably would never have gone back to an iPad if it had been.
It is weird to hear that the iPad is the more affordable option
You pay cheap for toy
They've been rocking the same chassis since forever now , kind of makes sense they can make it quite cheap now.
Grobee true but you get less ram less storage no sd card and limited expansion no sub c
But it does have the app store for iPad higher poo less glare and quite a bit faster when not multitasking
The Surface Go should not be compared to the iPad Pro since it runs iOS, rather it should be compared to the MacBook. The operating system should be prioritized over form factor and price point.
Ikr
The surface go is 520 kg ?
If it were a more dense and it will be a black hole. 😂
Kamal El watik yea I was just about to comment something similar, who needs a gym subscription with the surface go 😆
I think he meant grams lol
Lmao perfect comment.
It's going to pass it's schwarzschild radius and kill us al
Lol, he meant grams
You forgot to mention that you can easily expand storage on the Surface go with an SD card
Thomas Gottschalk ist mein Fan does surface go can support up to 400GB sd card ?
its actually up to 1 TB.
He did mention that
Thomas Gottschalk ist mein Fan does poor storage performance really warrant merit? LOL FAIL!
I never said that it will have great performance. learn to read.
520kg...huh. Doesn't look that heavy.
Jake Harvey he meant grams
You never know!
Jake Harvey ...it's made of plutonium.
he is a strong guy to hold 520kg easily.
Oh, did he?
This is a tired comparison already. If you want a tablet experience with a few laptop usability, the iPad wins. If you want a laptop experience in a tablet form factor then go with the many windows tablet solutions. It’s not a “which is better?” question, but a “what do you need it for?” question.
elmer camarse if you have a phone don’t buy the ipad
strongly agree. same OS. Get a proper desktop OS which is on Surface Go
Right on😎
Best comment here 👍
Doggy Doge - I bought an iPad because I have android phone. If I had an iPhone then I would get an android tablet. Windows has the best 2 in ones. I also have a SurfaceBook
I can bench a 520 kg Surface Go with one hand.
As a tablet, iPad would be better
But the surface go would be a better "laptop replacement"
Ryan Kim
It really isn’t... a laptop is a good laptop replacement.
I don’t future for tablet when I see surface go
R X but it runs windows and has a mouse plus keyboard so....
Exactly...ipad always fails for lack of a real OS. It's just a big phone.
520 kg for the surface go? Won't be going anywhere with that.
Lol he means grams lol he messed up I hope you're joking
Youry van uum... what if 7 get some summer tires for it :P
Youry van uum i
do you even lift bro!?
You'll need a forklift
One of the biggest advantages of the Surface Go wasn't mentioned. Expandable storage!! It has a micro SD slot that iPad/iPhone will never have.
Yeah, not sure how that slipped by...
Thats not a benefit though, all have adequate storage.
COUGH COUGH COUGH. Ah mate, your forgetting about video editing lol.
Marius Muntean I was referring in storage terms. Of course they are both garbage for video editing. Sorry for the confusion. It’s just on iPad storage can’t be expanded.
@Marius Muntean someone edited video using premiere pro on surface go and it work.
"hope you dont snap it off" exactly what i was thinking when i saw how the apple pen charges lol.
0:41 yep the surface go comes in at a weight of just 520kg thats just the same as the weight of 4 male lions😂
Surface Go is better compared to the iPad Pro, not the iPad OriGinal. I think its more like this:
Surface Go vs iPad Pro
Surface Pro vs MacBook (12 inch)
Surface Laptop vs MacBook Air
Surface Book vs MacBook Pro
Surface Studio vs iMac Pro
change MacBook Air with MacBook Pro 13 No Touchbar. ;)
Not necessarily. How do each compete in education markets? Surface Go for MS, iPad 9.7 for Apple.
Michieliosi ...iPad OG....is that one sold by the gram, in back alleys?
Remlat Zargonix same question what's OG ? (Don't mind me being stupid)
Surface Pro intel i7 16gb ram is better than Surface Go. Trust me.
little bit heavier 0:39 - 520 KILOGRAMS :D
József Krocskó he meant grams
Arta Ahmadi oh man, I thought he was superman :/
😂😂😂
Hey Dan. I really liked your point about each company trying to reach the same goal from very different positions. It's a good way to understand the differences.
Thanks! Framing the argument is very important for these things. Just depends on what you need.
Ipad is better for consuming and entertainment, surface go is better for work oriented tasks.
for work oriented tasks both are terrible
Still Surface Go is a standalone device and iPad is not.
What do you mean by "standalone"? The iPad is a "standalone" device, too
Grobee Sure, but the Surface Go is still arguably the better option at this price point and size for work related tasks, IO and functionality, especially with the keyboard cover and pen.
The iPad isn't a main computing device and neither is the Go. They're complementary, secondary devices at best. Computing needs and preferences should dictate which one to go for.
Exactly! For serious work related tasks I'd recommend neither of these
One question outside the point of the video, how did you get those awesome-looking background on the Surface Go? They look so good.
For windows users, get the surface pro for a better size and more for your money (especially now that most places have deals with office and a keyboard thrown in)
If you really want the surface go - wait... in a few months the deals will come out... i also think microsoft will lower the price - the starting price should be $299
Nice comparison. I'm inclined to buy the Surface Go since I prefer Windows for my productivity tasks.
me too or else I will wait for a Surface that uses ARM. MS please do it better than TabS4, you hear me? and give us at least 8gb of RAM!
Title - "Which is a better tablet?"
Conclusion - Surface Go is better because it's a full PC that I can plug stuff in to.
Um....
*PC, Laptop and Tablet in One*
6:40 You don't need to use your finger to "basically operate everything" you could use CMD + SPACE to open spotlight and from there search anything in any app
Surface Go FTW
Rubén Gómez Radioboy come on, its not that bad.
The Suface Go also doubles the RAM with the larger capacity model. That for me makes it the better buy. Running a full OS is a big plus too.
I hope Microsoft does work on the tablet UI. I think trying to maintain one interface for all things leads to too much compromise. My suggestion? Take a page from the book of Linux, where you can install different desktop environments and switch between them. Windows should have an opt-in classic shell for traditionalists who want it, and a default modern shell that leans on the strengths of Windows 8.
with current ceo expect a lot of worse things happen they wont do it
MS is already working on the CShell for that purpose. Same core OS, different layout for different devices.
Tablet UI is a different shell. The problem is that desktop apps flip it back to the desktop UI.
I had an old iPad
They don’t have anymore updates for that version and is so slow. My question is the surface is going to be the same in the future???
Rafael Espinosa considering it has windows updates, most likely no. From my understanding you can stop updating but they would only stop updates if they stop supporting windows 10, which I don’t see happening.
iPad doubles the phone, it's a phone clone. Surface GO, instead, is a full flat phone-companion PC
lol.... surface is clone of pc
Boucha exactly and this is where its strength come from
Or the weaknesses. If you have already a PC or Mac, then the iPad is the better tablet.
Interesting competion here
thats sound good
where did you get that background from surface go
Surface=full computer!
iPad=iPod touch on steroids.
Obviously Surface is WINNER
And obviously your spelling is the loser here. Winner*
@@bluelegacy4873 You cannot start a new sentence from "And"...
Mike Jaques lmao, yes you can you dumbass
@@bluelegacy4873you are damdass. OMG. You have nothing to do?
Yeah, big muscles, small balls.
Honestly Surface Go Wins
X86 FTW! I HATE ARM CPU's like the ones Apple uses in iOS devices!!!
AcresceNtRMoonT what 😂😂😂 go and do Some research
apple A series Is based on ARM Architecture
AcresceNtRMoonT yea. That’s a huge limitation of iPads. ARM while more power efficient can’t do as much as a x86 based CPU no matter how powerful it is
AcresceNtRMoonT your slightly wrong. ARM can’t do X86 instruction sets such as AVX/2/SSSE4.1 etc. that’s very critical for operating systems.
2. things. 1. its not workarounds.
Kind of ironic that a microsoft product would cost more than a similar Apple product.
thats the most honest comparison about those two machines .. great job
Everyone talks about the Go bezels but ipad has bigger ones.
They've had it since the mini
Edit: Here is a source I've found thenextweb.com/apple/2012/10/23/apple-tweaks-ios-to-better-detect-accidental-touches-due-to-ipad-minis-thinner-bezel/
Surface Go looks really impressive. I find the iPad fulfils my needs when I’m not at my desktop perfectly.
if you have primary device then buy an iPad, if not buy Surface Go
teeXtra I'm going to buy a surface go to supplement my surface book 2.
7 hrs vs 10-11, not to mention standby times is a pretty big gap.
blissrunner given it has USB C, any portable charger can power it right back up
blissrunner ipad doesnt have great standby time either, whatever the case i need to change my ipad 2018 in every two days
SAVIOR OMEGA That makes perfect sense, buying a thin an light device, just to carry around a heavy powerband aswell 😂
520 kilograms? Seems legit.
Just a quick question, where can I get the wallpaper you have on the surface go?
1. Get a Surface Go
2. Install NOX Android Emulator
3. ......
4. Profit
is nox lightweight?
It's lighter than BlueStacks, that's for sure .
BlueStacks slows down my laptop.
That's what I did and it was a win win!
Why would you want to downgrade into an android toy?
Zyzzus Christ - Your so-called "question" lacks basic common sense. Obviously the Surface Go would have TWO operating systems on it. If I have to explain something so obvious to you, then please just remove yourself from the conversation to avoid further embarrassment.
The iPad compared to a 2-in-1 premium laptop is like a cat vs tiger lmao.
There are way too many things you can do on a Surface Go than an iPad.
Surface go
Mukundh Bhushan that weighs 520Kg despite the “go”
Walker Morales for my usage surface go is a better pick than ipad

But still you should have superhuman power and abilities to carry it around. Are u a professional bodybuilder or a strongman competitor. Otherwise just be content with an ipad

Oh boy ipad looks like a clumsy piece of tech from 2008 or so when paired with a keyboard. Terrible design...
gressart1 well that’s down to the keyboard.
Because the iPad never needs a keyboard.... that’s why it’s a tablet while any surface product is not.
I’m an apple fan but I totally agree with you
Apples design for this was not very good
thats not an apple keyboard case
You can running desktop apps and mobile apps (with emulator) on surface. While on ipad you only can running mobile apps.

Not the same price category
Different price ranges. At that point, I'd compare iPad Pro to Surface Pro.
Makes sense, Fantastic Video as always.
Surface go $399 vs iPad $329
Surface pro $699 vs iPad pro $650
where did you get that wallpaper on the surface go?
Why doesn't anyone complain about the bezels of iPad?
Because Apple always gets a free pass.
I think it's because the purpose is to hold it by portrait.
I agree that the iPad was clearly built to be in portrait given the fingerprint reader and camera placement, but I don't think that excuses the large top and bottom bezels.
How can I hold it in portrait with those bezels? Its too thin on that side.
Design looks good on the ipad
Which of these 2 models would you recommend for someone who wants to take notes, write essays and create power point presentations for university, but I also want to film sprinters with the camera in normal speed and slow motion and then edit the videos and create Kinograms for example. Thanks for your help.
For a tablet uses (watching Netflix, watching youtube, emailing) I'd choose the ipad
But for a tablet/student uses (connecting into a projector using a vga adapter, taking notes) the surface go is 2x better
Surface is still a better experience for those things due to the aspect ratio, kickstand, and the mytube app for windows which is a vastly superior experience to the native youtube app on ios (and not just because there's no ads). TBH there is no solid justification for an ipad over a go
Where did you get that wallpaper on the Surface Go?
Dealbreaker; surface go too heavy at 520kg
(jk I know it's 520 grams)
Best value per kg
Can you compare it also to the older Surface 3?
Surface go is 520 kilogram lol it's at 40th second of this video anyway awesome video comparison!
Deva Prem he meant grams
Heavy duty stuff!
I missed a head to head application comparison (office, image, video, etc)
Surface Go all day! Amazing all around device! 👍
How do you like yours so far and what do you use it for?
I am conflicted between the Surface and the Ipad. I am planning on using a tablet with my Thinkpad T480 for my nursing school. I would do most of the office work on the Thinkpad and use a tablet for reading etextbooks. Do you think the Ipad will suffice as I already have a proper laptop for actual work? Where I am in Canada I can get the Ipad 9.7 32gb for the half the price of a base Surface Go through a bank promotion right now.
I just wish windows would support good notes or notiablty

Shouldn't the comparison have been with the iPad Pro instead?
Victor Lazo no, price point is close at the entry level
S Bludger and size
iPad Pro should be compared to Surface Pro since they have same pricing
The 400$ surface go has trade offs not mentioned by the reviewer. The lowest tier 400$ version has 4 gb ram and most importantly only 64gb Of slow emmc storage. Making the Windows experience less than stellar.
The base model surface go should be compared to the base model iPad. And the mid tier surface go, like the reviewer has, should be compared to the iPad Pro.
No. The Go is the smaller cheaper one.
To me, it's simple. If you're in the Windows environment, get the Surface Go. If you're in the apple ecosystem, then the iPad.
I'm actually upgrading to a higher spec'd Surface Pro 6 (from Surface Pro 3) and getting a 1st gen iPad Pro because I love both pens for different reasons.

iPad is better because of the range of apps available. There is just too limited selection in the Windows app store to be able to use the Surface Go as a true tablet replacement.

Strangely enough, the comment section is the one biased here, while the reviewer expresses his opinions just in the very last 20 seconds after an objective review.
Could u please tell me the name of the background you are using for the surface go? Thank you
microsoft please first try to fix what is broken. in your case that will be windows. no amount of hardware innovation will matter if the core of the product has issues.
haha
Major changes are coming... Look at the Surface Hub 2 launch video, is shows a tease of the new Core OS.
Oh is it.... well my experience with windows os is very different from yours or the business world then... maybe thats why Microsoft these days is increasingly pushing for hardware and software optimisation on their new hardware products following the Apple's philosophy of "people who makes their own software should make their own hardware".

iPad is just better in most aspect
Nice video however, I'm wondering why you didn't compare the Surface Go to the iPad Pro 10.5? Doesn't make sense????
For artist, I think iPad is still a better experience.
why do you want to edit on a tablet anyway? Wouldnt Surface Studio or Surface Book 2 flipped be a better choice with the Surface Pen?
Awesome review, man! Very organized and thoughtful
Windows Central likes Surface Go more than iPad, what a surprise!
Few more improvements to Windows 10 such as better tablet mode and Surface Pro will fully replace iPad.
i should reword myself. *Windows 8.1* was the better tablet OS

what is the keyboard at 10:58 called?
dual boot android in surface go and it'll ve the best!!
you can use emulator
Android-x86 exists.
www.android-x86.org/
Ya that's the point. Android x86 exists for some time and windows on arm also exists. So it is technically possible, but not going to happen as I know Microsofts way
Considering either surface go or an ipad. How do i hook up a wired peripherals on these device? Say an old printer/cutter or hdd?
Microsoft cannot excuse for worse graphics and worse tablet experience than the iPad. For the last 3 years, they could've improved it bit by bit, and it'd be much better now.
Ahmed Nauman Tariq it's a little more complicated than that. It's actually the x86 vs arm issue. I believe the intel hd 615/630 might be more powerful since they have been able to run games like GTA5 and Doom2016. The ipad has a faster cpu but you can't run serious games. The Surface is probably better for a serious gamer while the ipad for casual gaming.
Are u sure that a Pentium device can run all games like PubG or Asphalt 9 better than ipad
Does Ipad Pro the best for Chartist for Traders System Application or the Surface better?
*I P A D P E N C I L*
sucks?. yes we know that. Surface Pen FTW (i saw that mistake and i was lmao. "Apple Pencil")
So for about $375.00 I have a system that is capable of minor laptop replacement tasks and media consumption in a package that weights less than 1.5 pounds. iPad simply can't do many of these productivity functions.
surface go
Interesting that, for the Logitech keyboard for iPad (which I have and is a very nice typing experience, despite being a little fugly) the fact it uses batteries was a downside, but then moments later, the fact that the Surface Pen uses batteries was a plus... and Logitech advertises two years of usage on one battery for that keyboard, compared to the Surface Pen’s one year (I’ve had my keyboard for months, use it nearly every day, and it still has 100% charge).
