- Finally made a HUGE breakthrough with my slow wheelies! In this video I explain what made the difference, IT WAS YOUR COMMENTS!!!! Thank you for all who comment on the channel.
I like his humbleness unlike others cockyness
Thank you for the kind comment!
This really helped me wrap my head around the process. I am determined at 48 to learn slow wheelie. I’ve rode since I was a kid and never mastered this technique. It’s embarrassing to ride with guys that are on the back wheel and you just watch like a Gumby.
You left the same comment I was about to. It's refreshing to see honest content
Hi! Thanks for posting that. I think that what's missing on the RUclips today is just that - people posting honest progress of their learning process. It helps you to build motivation, as you said, but it also helps others to see that it's always a process, and the pros they admire had to get those steps just the same. For me personally it's always really refreshing to watch the failed videos and observe the concrete mistakes made. This helps a lot when I observe myself making the same mistakes. I think you might have convinced me to upload some of my videos so far just to (hopefully!) get some similar feedback. I'm currently practicing the slow-speed standing up lift (enduro, but derived from trial) and definitely a lot of those issues are shared pretty much universally. Good luck to everyone with their front wheel up!
It sure isn't easy putting yourself out there but it'll keep you committed, motivated and working towards the end goal. Thank you for your comments and watching this video. Stand up wheelies are next for me.
Great to see it helped you so much! Always remember: when you're on the "safe" side of balance point, using the throttle to maintain the wheelie, you will be accelerating. When you are on the "dangerous" side of balance point, using the rear brake to maintain the wheelie, you will be decellerating. So you will have to constantly shift between the two states to maintain your speed. When you get better at wheelies it will feel more natural and you will be able to do "coasters" and such stuff
Agreed! I have to say that when that "floating" feeling happens it's the best feeling ever! Thanks again
What helped me the most, was banging into 2nd (Clutchless) as soon as it's up to reduce the jerkiness of 1st gear.
I'm not a rear brake guy and my slow wheelie is a bit quicker. (Road Bike)
Great Vid....
Thanks bro! Maybe I'll give the clutches 2nd a try.
From Tanzania 🇹🇿 thanks for the lesson
Excellent work< your there! Love the Red - Match the bike, Tennies, They would help with ankle dexterity and feel on the brake> I will "take that Tip" Also don't forget to make sure your foot has movement when you put on your boots and the foot is not "compressed" which will give you more "Feel" for Brake Pedal Pressure! Thanks for posting and good luck with your Channel!
I originally saw this and said who the heck is this guy lol. I watched this video yesterday and when I got to the end a light bulb went off in my head. I got a good 5 -6 months hard of practicing slow wheelies, I have good brake control and almost have the clutch control down. But my problem is I keep falling left to right. I saw this video and saw how he starts with his foot down , then once balanced bring your foot up. This has helped me tremendously. Once I’m stable I then bring that foot up. I finally rode one out for 20-30 feet . It get soooo good. Thank you for the video. Keep practicing.🤘
Awesome! Thanks for watching. Slow wheelies are sooooo fun. Next is the endo, wish me luck. Haha
Rock on bro! Looking good man! Highly inspiring! Like how you break it down and how you're progressing
Thank you very much! Sorry for the late response, I just got back from doing the Idaho City 100!
Thanks mate, that was great, good info and well presented
Exactly what I did on my DRZ400, took me 4 months to get it.......the brake was difficult to learn, but I got it......
Awesome to hear. The rear brake, once committed to memory, will save you from looping out but also acts as a tool to keep you going.
Nothing better then when the slow wheelie technique finally clicks 👌🏻
Thanks for commenting. I love that floating feeling when the wheelie hits 12 o'clock.
I like how expleind is true is same I feel I start practice thank you 👍
Thank you for watching and good luck!
Cool stuff, keep doing what you do, 1 year later I will be happy to see 100k followers on your channel.
Thanks Mark! I appreciate the encouragement and support.
Wow, glad I found this video!! Thanks for the great tips.
You bet! Thank you very much for watching.
Good job, keep it up. Practice, practice and practice some more. 👍
Thanks for watching and commenting! I practice at least three times a week. I’ll get there one day.
@@NaturallyCaffeinated you're doing just fine, you're off a very good start.
The way you stay humble will make you progress faster
You’re further along than I...thanks for the tips!
You bet!
Like the studious and analytical approach. That helps us gain the skill faster and safely and then convert it all to intuition.
Thanks Jake! I just gained some more traction on the slow wheelie and will upload that video soon. Thanks for watching.
@@NaturallyCaffeinated Sure, we're on a similar wavelength and I've gone back to the drawing board on wheelies and determined that it should all start with mastering slow wheelies before getting into power wheelies or dropping the clutch in 2nd (with my KTM 690). I'm talking to a wheelie master here in coming weeks and will likely drop something on my channel.
Very clear 👏👏👏👏💕💕💯🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Thank you Jose!!!!
Good job keep it up.
Thank you for watching!
Wonderful to watch your progression. Gives me encouragement to keep working and an idea of what I can expect.
Thank you. Please practice as often as you can and cover that rear brake!
@@NaturallyCaffeinated So, for my practicing I've pretty much gone right to working on the slow wheelie. I've never done the fast wheelie really. I think this will get me there, but I've yet to stay up for any significant amount of time. I've seen this left foot down approach in a few places the last few days and am excited to try it out once I get a bit of time
awesome info. i'll add this to my practice routine.
OBTW. Please wear a helmet.
I lost a friend who crashed while
"just going out to try something"
cheers. keep up the great work
Thanks for commenting about the helmet and I'll wear mine ALL the time now. Sorry to her about your friend.
Yeah, its sad that happens. I knew guy, his son just went for a quick rip while unloading to go for a ride, hadn’t got any gear on yet including his helmet. Well he lost it on the way back and hit a tree. He’s no longer with us.
Nice explaination sir
Thank you very much!
In most the slow wheelie vids ive watched, no one ever touches on side to side balance….the a very key factor. throttle clutch and rear brake are paramount in the process, but if one doesnt have lateral stability it becomes popping up and dabbing left or right foot
James, great point and thanks for watching.
Great video! Thanks for posting!!!
You bet, thanks for watching.
Looks great man! I haven't put all the pieces together with my wheelies, I seem to start accelerating and can't keep them slow. More practice is always needed.
Yes, keep at it! Thanks for commenting. You may want to work on getting the front end up quicker to help slow things down.
Wow very clear ur such a good teacher humble💪💪💪🇵🇭
Thank you Jose! Thanks for watching my video.
u doing great, a new subscriber here❤
Thank you so much and thanks for watching! Are you new to slow wheelies? If so, how’s it going?
@Naturally Caffeinated I didn't ride for over a year due to injury but coming back soon, I will keep u updated
Very nice..i like to try that ticnique
Thank you! Good luck with your wheelies.
hey been trying to do this for ages ,, i have learnt so far that you can do it on any bike , as you show its more than just power , practice is a good key , just dont get a regular enough time to do this . ill get there , cheers for the tips Steve/Geraldton Australia
Thanks for commenting! Practice when you can. Love to see a video of you killing it (the wheelie that is)!
Thx a lot, really helpful tips🎉
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video I've been trying to do this for some time. Your video has given me the confidence to keep trying and how to switch up my approach.
That's great news! Don't give up as it can get frustrating to perfect. Let me know how your progress goes if you don't mind. Thanks for watching.
You’re there! Thanks for sharing this and for the great tips. Did you do a 1:1 with Rich Larsen? If you make it to southern Colorado reach out...tons of great trails here.
Thanks, I did do a 1:1 educational riding session. He's dialed! I'd love to ride Colorado. I'll reach out if I head there. Any suggestions on where exactly? Maybe I'll plan a trip and film there. Thank you.
There are a quite a few goodies out here depends on what type of riding you want to do. There is good stuff every where.
Good 4 you man👍👍👊
Keep it up
Love this !
Great advice thanku from uk
You bet, thanks for watching!
Dude for real, your a natural keep up the practice 💪🏻
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Good points. Despite being tall, I'm battling a bit with the foot dragging or pivot wheelies. I hope to make a breakthrough there then put my left foot back on. Been practicing a lot lately and hope to make the same breakthrough as you. My main issue is also needing more rear brake finesse.
Thank you for commenting and watching the video. Keep practicing the rear brake control. Once you get to that point you will find your progress will increase rapidly! Good luck.
That’s awesome, great job man.
Thanks Jonathan! Thanks for watching, I hope you got something out of it.
Great video. I was surprised to see you not wearing a helmet (surprised because of "no helmet?!" comments)... but at the same time, I think it would be very hard to hit your head at that sort of speed, especially since you have good control. Sometimes I do quick backyard rides without a helmet. Not a big deal to me. And honestly, you can still get a concussion with a helmet on, which I've done. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the support and comment! I do wear a helmet all the time now. A lot of folks were saying they've had friends who died from not wearing a helmet. I've got a new video coming up on my slow wheelie progress.
Great approach to these videos!
Thank you very much I really appreciate it!
thx, good explanation!
Makes sense shall try tomorrow 👍
Great vid. Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much!
Congrats, great Job!
Thanks for watching!
excellent work, i liked you explanation
Thank you! Thanks for commenting.
Been able to do the slow wheelie most my life...learned on a bike with little to no rear brake. Still have a hard time trying to incorporate rear brake...yet I can ride a slow wheelie through an obstacle coarse... It’s the fast wheelie, going through the gears and using the rear brake I haven’t mastered. Might help if I just stuck to one bike...
Haha! I would like to learn the fast wheelie next.
thank you. i think i should do the slow wheelie one step at time.. i should master 1st step 1. before going 2nd step
Looks like you're covering everything...except your head? Come on, wear a helmet when you post this stuff, kids are watching.
Thank you will do! Thanks for commenting.
Good tips I will try it the next time I ride.
Great, now post the video and I will watch it on your channel. Thanks!
@@NaturallyCaffeinated hehe Maybe. i nerver practice wheelies but earlier in the day I saw this video I actually practiced 1h for real not just pop it and be done.
@@Thungur1337 Great, how's the progress going? Thanks for watching the video and how it helps.
Feeling or muscelmemory you called it in the vid that also helps when wearing the boots? Again its all about practice and lots of hours in the bike. Thanks and have fun riding!!
Ric larsen 511. My idol!!!
He's an amazing teacher and rider!!!
What changes the whole thing for me is when I m wearing my riding boots
A light drag on the rear brake damps oscillations fwd&bkwd.
I tried this technique this week and... it worked! Thank you!!
@@NaturallyCaffeinated It helped me to ride much longer Bicycle Wheelies on my 10 speed (45 yeas ago) using a the RW hand brake. Thank YOU for your awesome channel content!
Nice job 👍 .
Thank you very much! How are you at wheelies?
Top
Thanks for watching!
Nice background. Looks like you're in Kansas.
Close, I'm in Utah!
Nice. I wish I was as good as you. Im just getting over a busted Femur from a crash last October. I would love to master the slow wheelie someday. FYI. Find a Video called Slaygound 3. With Axell Hodges, Its the Dopest video I’ve seen in A long time.....maybe ever!
Sorry to hear about the busted femur! Heal fast so you can get back to riding my friend.
Good video man! I'm fighting the same battle.
Thanks for commenting! It takes hours and hours of practice. What stage of the slow wheelies are you at? I’ll have an update rolling out soon.
@@NaturallyCaffeinated Still just dumping the clutch and getting the wheel up. I'm getting back into riding after about 15 years. Always wanted to wheelie! Finding time to myself is the hardest part for me!
@@aarfdood I hear ya! Keep up the hard work as it'll pay off!
Thanks man, you too!
Awesome presentation! I love how you cover everything!
Thanks Bill!
@@NaturallyCaffeinated you're welcome!
I love your approach, and certainly learned from watching your video. Question…you’ve got a nice/consistent throttle that you use to help get the lift in your rebound, but did you ever struggle with getting that consistent?…I’m struggling to get consistent throttle blips (because they are so small) and if I happen to wind the throttle blip too much, my clutch modulation isn’t reacting quick enough to stop the bike from looping…can you give any suggestions for dealing with this issue?
So, yes! It takes time to "feel" what is necessary to get the front end up without to much throttle. But, it shouldn't take much throttle to get the front end up. If using rebound and the right clutch modulation you won't need much throttle. Maybe I'll make another video with this exact technique in mind to help. Thank you for watching and your question! If you need further help please drop another comment.
@@NaturallyCaffeinated thanks for your reply! …if you were to line up the slots of the throttle and the drop of the clutch, and the fork rebound, would all three be simultaneous, in your own mind, or are the staggered?…I’m wondering if I should be cracking the throttle as I’m compressing the forks and the dropping the clutch with the rebound, and throttling off as I’m dropping the clutch, so there is no way to have the throttle on as the clutch is engaged….if that makes sense? (I’ve over throttled when I’m shifting my weight back - on the rebound - and if it’s just a little overdone, the front wheel is hard to control, as it comes up so quickly)
…another way to ask is…”are you blipping the throttle” as you pull back in the handlebars? I’m trying that but find I’ve an inconsistent blip, as I find it difficult to shutoff the blip while trying to pull the bars back…if you’re doing that, then your experience shows me I just have to work harder :-)
@@JimBlair are you on a 2T or 4T bike?
Wow
Thanks for watching Lary!
Can you apply the foot brake with the same precision with your riding boot on?
Great question and yes! I thought it would be harder but it isn't. thanks for commenting!
nice content for sharing your experience, may i know how many weeks for you to learn your wheelies and in a day how many hours?
It's taken a couple of years! Thanks for watching.
@@NaturallyCaffeinated You really have the patience, i salute you.
No helmet???
Now that is dangerous!!! At any speed
Thanks for the comment. I'll wear my helmet even at slow speeds.
Don’t watch supercross those guys might make your head explode. While I agree that a helmet is safer AND that NC should consider the entirety of his audience and the message his actions might send, however he is an adult and I’m sure he already has a mother.
@@SierraScout2 Thanks for the comment! Super-cross is sick!!!
Riding with out a helmet is living free
@@lisamiller5560 Lisa, thanks for watching and commenting.
When I was a kid, I called the unsold lots next door "grassy fields" too, ha ha. Curious about the name, is that a drink?
Not a drink but my nickname. I had a lot of energy as a kid without caffeine. The chemical compound is ATP (our body’s energy source).
Hi, you are wearing sneakers in this Video. Normaly you wear boots that protect your feet but give you a lower feedback or feeling for the rear break. Or is it helpful to get this
In you video 05:30 are you feathering the clutch lever or just your finger resting on the lever?
Thanks for watching. I am modulating the clutch at the engagement point.
Your advice is sound 😎
Thanks Scott!
I'm tiptoe on my left feet, so I can't get my body movement from front to back to compress the fork. I noticed you are tip toe too but How did you do it???
Thanks for watching my video! I start by sitting on the bike with one leg on the ground. I then shift my weight forward to help compress my front forks. This is where I use the rebound of the suspension to help me lift the front end with clutch control and throttle (very little throttle though). Hope this helps. Let me know if I should create a video for getting the front end up in the air.
I’m new to dirt bike riding just bought my first ktm 250 can’t wheelie it as yet
Love that bike! Cover your rear brake and good luck!
Nice, is that a 250? 450 is I think a bit harder at least while learning b/c of power and snappy engine.
Thanks for watching! It’s actually a 300cc
😃👍
the structure in the background is not caffeine but adenosine triphosphate (ATP)
That's awesome that you know the chemical structure! It's just a play on words but thanks for noticing. Did you study chemistry or biology? How did you know it was ATP?
@@NaturallyCaffeinated 🤷🏻♂️😂👍
Good video explaining the basics I just stumbled across your channel good stuff I subscribed 👍
hey! are you modulating the brake when moving or the rear brake or none or both? cheers!
clutch and brake i mean
Yes! Modulation is key when doing the slow wheelie. It’s both the clutch and rear brake working together. It takes time for your brain and muscle memory to connect the two together. When it happens you’ll know. Good luck and keep practicing.
Hi, I've got a drz400, and learning slowly ksitting and standing). I look forward to trying your tips. But I find it very hard to keep the balance sideways. Any tips on that (aside from starting relaxed and already well balanced)? Thanks for the good work!
Shoot, Im still learning to turn.
You’ll get there! 👍
5:40 when your leg hangs off the bike like this, dont step/skip (like you currently are) let your foot just drag it will steady you
Great, I'll give it a try and thank you!
I see you cut your clutch lever. Do you only do one finger? Do you ever miss the extra length? Does your one finger ever "tire"? I assume it is better than to pinch your small fingers all the time. I have a cable clutch and I tend to use the middle finger.
Good catch! I only use my index finger. I love the short lever and yes it doesn't smack my fingers when pulled in. It's especially great if you fall on the left side and it usually doesn't break off. Thanks for commenting.
@@NaturallyCaffeinated And thank you for replying.
So once you are up you use the clutch still as you are up 🤔 I just started yesterday I can get it up but comes down as soon as it is up
Correct, continue to modulate the clutch at the engagement point while covering your rear brake. It's going to take some time and practice but keep at it! Good luck.
Awesome vid
Just a nerd thing :-O why is there an ATP under caffeinated? XD
Haha, it's the body's own energy source (I'm a pretty hyper guy). Just a nerd thing ;)
Wanted to ask you where you are located, somewhere in Europe?
@@NaturallyCaffeinated haha, I know, actually I'm a doctor 🤣
Yeah, Germany 😊💪
@@grimsqueakracing4063 Thanks for watching my videos. Are you in the military and when will you be back in the states? Love to have you out here in Utah to ride some time.
@@NaturallyCaffeinated think you got me wrong there 😃 I was born and raised in Germany 😁 never been to the U.S. before
So are you just tapping the brake when needed or are you applying constant pressure and always dragging it a little bit?
I tap when needed as I'm really careful using the throttle along with body position.
...wheeliebar/training wheel...?
Did you find it helped being in trainers rather than your riding boots to get the feel for the brake?
Haha! No just put the video together while practicing in my yard. Thanks for commenting.
