AMAZING FLIGHT CONTROLS AT WORK 💪🏻

- We’ve talked about how the Flight Control Surfaces all play their part on approach, especially in gusty conditions just like this!
NOTE: The camera stabiliser makes this approach/landing look a lot smoother but trust me, this was a bumpy approach and hard landing!
Check-out how all the Flight Control Surfaces work together: Speed brakes and both High and Low speed Ailerons. On approach the Speed Brakes (the smaller ‘boards’ along the wing) help with controlling speed and stabilise the wing. This is SO evident in the video, almost to the point that it looks ramped-up!
Once the wheels are on the Ground, the Spoilers (armed by the Pilots and activated by WOW sensors) are then fully deployed and become Ground (or Dump) Spoilers, creating huge amounts of Aero Breaking and bringing this Big Jet to a stop 🛑
This is such a cool example of all those things at work 💪🏻
Filmed by GP on American 137
Crazy watching all of the control surfaces move like that. Even the ground spoilers moving.
Perfectly normal landing.
Ditto
Super flappy McFlaperons working hard!
That's a good, safe landing. Nothing "wild".
Gilly thank you for filming this. Jerry thanks for the detailed explanation.
Thanks for that terrific teaching moment, Jerry, which was topped only by Gilly's filming. FTW. Noticed also that you once again flew over Cape Dyer in Canada's North. Onward!
Happy to see you landed safely
Hi Jerry & Gilly. I landed in Honolulu back in 1978, seated in the cockpit of a Pacific Western Airlines 707 from Vancouver BC. I sat behind the Captain - British with huge handlebar moustache. Told me he flew Spitfires during WW2. We are chatting away until he suddenly said "Sir, think you'd better return to your seat now as I can see the runway landing lights". Those were the days when passengers were welcome in the cockpit. After we landed, there were girls waiting to place lei's around our neck & take us to a champagne breakfast 🍳🍾🍷
Hope you both have a great time in Honolulu 😊
@@Abbotsfordjohn Think of how much Islam alone has cost humanity.
@@tomasinacovell4293 if you’re going to make comments like that, at least be more specific: Islamist extremists. Islam is a peaceful religion. Likewise extremists of any religion cause issues for others.
Wow! Drop it like it's hot! What a landing!
Flapping heck!
So smooth 😳
Beauty approach into Hollywood! 😎✈️
Cool beans, happy to hear you made it to LA, hope your next flight to Honolulu is a good one
Lovely flaperon action!!
The first time I flew to the USA from London, in 1975 on Air India's ill-fated "Emperor Ashoka" 747, the passengers burst into applause and the PA system played "Seventy-Six Trombones." Now.... nothing :-(
Welcome to California !
That MIGHT have produced an "Oohhh" from Jerry but nothing much more than that. Looked a teeny weeny bit of a floaty landing, but it was smooth by looks 👍🏼👍🏼 Enjoy your time
welcome to LAX! Very warm but clear today.
Amazing view of flex and surfaces at work.!
Awesome! Have fun and welcome to America 🇺🇸 🤩
The solution is DON'T CRUISE ROYAL anymore!! That's what we've done
Nice landing
Great filming Gilly😊 and thanks Jerry for the detailed info.
Wow what a landing hooray I flightrader you going over Scotland happy you both there safe look forward to show.xx
Magic ✨️
Welcome to the USA!
It looked like the front wheel touched twice on a certain live stream 🧐🧐
ryanair would be proud of that one :)
Seemed pretty tame mate.
All it needed wash a “Bosh!” Jerry!!
Flaps were a flappin.
Lots of flappy action 😅
Great video ✈️✈️
Fabulous flap action
A very early arrival at LAX. Roughly one hour early. And, surprisingly, it didn't take too long to get a gate.
Nice landing and run out. All ready for the shows 0:00 0:00 now you're in HNL. Thanks for the clip J & G 😊
You can hear the screech on landing! Amazing ❤
American 777 pilot was trying to recreate the ‘ Oh no stop , stop that ‘ landing 😂
Yeap felt that 😅 enjoy Hawaii BIGJET TV Aloha !
777 . Build like like a tank.
How do you keep the camera so still? My landing videos are always so jumpy…
Nice normal landing. A bit bumpy but hey...
What was wild about it? Looked perfectly normal to me. Loved it though!
"WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Landed there from New Yawk in 1981. IIRC A DC-10 coming and a 747 leaving. My first and only plane rides. Loved every second of the flights! A total of 10 hours looking out the window and listening to the cockpit on the headphones.
That flapperon was really working it 😁
After taking off from LAX to HNL had wake turbulence definitely something I don’t want to experience again!😂
Flippin eck !!
Thank you for the explanation. It is fascinating how it stops so elegantly at such a speed. Great filming too.
The computers working overtime
it’s amazing how complex a wing on a plane is
Wow, yes indeed. Bumpy and all flappies go! Great filming GP.
Wild landing? Some of my sim landings make that look like butter🤣
Welcome to America again.
Solid landing. I have had much worse in 777-300ER and 777-200. Some seemed too hot, or too fast. But BA always gets you there.
great landing,good luck in Hawaii!
Defo not Virgin or BA smoooooth … 👍🏻🏴
Hello Jerry, GP and everyone else
Must be American Airlines 😅
The airline crew would have been thinking, 'let's give Jerry and Gilly their money's worth'! I hope the Honolulu arrival was smoother.
Bosh!
Nice filming Gilly. Hope you both had a good flight. Next stop HNL! Looking forward to it. 🌺
Any landing you can walk away from..... lol
Looks pretty good to me 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Next stop Hawaii baby 😂
Gilly video!!
butter
🙌🏾Touchdown 👨🏻✈️
Looked good to me.
What was wild about it
Pilot was on top of it all the way in. Nice vid....
Looking forward to seeing the next post, It's been a while 😮
Easy son..........this fella's all over the gaff man.
Nice flap view 😉
And I thought F/A-18 Hornets flippy flappies are crazy..
Is Jerry in lax for any live ?
Those spoilers and ailerons are vibingg up and down 🤣
First time I have ever heard the wheels screeching from inside the cabin when landing😃
Touched down on the left boogey first! And those control surfaces🪩
The wings was just shakey shakey
Live stream at lax?
Did they charge for the extra landings Jerry ?
Where are the Hawaii shows or any for that matter?
Didn't have to read the description to know that was American 777-300ER with the black stripe on the wing. the 300ER is the only aircraft that has the black stripe but not all carriers have the stripe. BA is one example that does not have the stripe.
@@sailormike1089 all 777-300’s have the black stripe (including BA). It’s called the Main Landing Gear Location Stripe and is used to advise the pilot of the location of the main gear wheels in adverse lightning conditions when viewed through the Ground Manoeuvre Camera System, such as if the main gear is too shady to see. Its part of the 777 FCOM
@@philipmurtagh3028 I knew that. Have yet to see a BA with the stripe but maybe I missed it. But there are other carriers that don't have the stripe on 300 ER.that I've seen.
Cabin announcement was that recorded . No personal touch then
I used to think the pilots controlled each one individually lol.. like they do.. but they don't lol
Looooooook at it....nice landing...
Santa Ana winds 😊
BOSH!
I know that airport well…
"EASY, SON !!!!"😅
Watched your flight arrive live into LAX on a plane spotting channel
I hope everything is ok, haven't seen Jerry for a few days now...
Hold tight hold tight 😂
You think that was wild? Wait till you get off the jet and 5 miles north up to beautiful Santa Methica.
Nice
Sceeeeeeeeeeeech! Wooooooo have a great time you two🎉✈️✈️✈️
Great view of wing action enjoy Hawaii i😢
Looked ok to me. A bit too much flappy action maybe?
What happened to Big jet tv streaming not seen any
What was wild with this landing? Just normal flap work…😂😂😂

Touchdown one more to go...
