Another layer of flannel works in the middle of your fabric square too. Then all your squares can be the same size, and you just cut thru all 3 layers . I like to use a contrasting solid flannel.
Great video. Maybe when you are telling how to layer block you could correct the " put wrong side down" to first, bottom, square. For new sewers they may not realize it should be right side down, then batt, then right side up. I love your videos, all of them. Always starts my day with a smile, thank you.
Omg, I didn’t realize I didn’t know how to do a rag quilt! That’s awesome and easy! Great idea for a picnic blanket! I have a bunch of old flannel. Thank you Brianna! I’m so excited!
Thank you Brianna! Really nice job of explaining everything. I love when you said this is the quilt you take to the park and have picnics on. That is what I want a quilt that is used!
Thank you for this. Trying to figure out the rag quilt for my daughter's 4H project. I love the mini jokes throughout the video. You brought many smiles to my face. 😂
I am so glad I checked out your tutuorial! Although I have been an avid sewer, at last I am attempting a machine sewn quilt! I did not know that the "ragged edge came from clipping. I thought I needed to sew a long gathered strip on the seam. Imagine how "involved" that would have been!!!! Thanks so much for the instruction. I am looking forward to the quick and easy method.
Love your video. Fun and colorful quilt behind you. The other samples are awesome. Personally for me after having made several rag quilts. I prefer to snip as I see the rows. Then when the quilt is all put together the only snipping I need to do is the outer border. Easier on my arthritic hands. The joy of this kind of quilt you can do it either way. Love the sheep and teddy bear. one with the four patch.
@@brookes_organised_chaos I did use flannel both in the middle and on the front of the blocks. I would suggest using larger squares... a 8 or 10 inch, just to practice. Mine used around 300 squares that started at 5 inches. It looks really nice, but cutting all those edges was s lot of work.
Thank you Brianna for this great video. I love the different examples that you showed us. I have wanted to make one of these and just purchased some flannels with a rag quilt in mind last week, so the timing of this video is awesome!!
Really enjoyed watching this video. I have not made a rag quilt yet but after watching your video I think I can do it. I love the baby quilt. It's so cute. I went in to find the pattern for the Teddy Bear but could not find it. Do you still have it? Thanks again
I LOVE these Brianna! Already have the Spring Rabbits pattern. I think the Tridazzle rag is a super idea and would look so very cool. Thank you so very much for doing this video. I do think I need the better of the Fiskars scissors but hope they fit my small hands easily. Going to watch this one a few more times - LOL! Love your picnic quilt!
Great tutorial, thank you Brianna! And the quilt behind you is gorgeous, but those don't look like 10-inch squares. Can you please share with us what size squares they are?
I am planning to use cotton for the top and flannel for the batting and solid fleece for the back. Is there a way to have the back all one piece and sew the other 2 layers to it. I am in a hurry to make the before granddaughter takes off for college
I didn't hear you say it, but I would suggest you remind people to clean out their dryer filter frequently after drying this quilt; especially after the first time (or take it to the laundromat)...maybe after every one of those 30-minute drying increments...or, depending on the size of the quilt, even more frequently...
No it is down. Your first step is to make a little mini quilt. You stack wrong sides together with a piece of batting in the middle and quilt a little X on them. And then sew them all together
Ooooooooooh, ok, you mean "wrong side down", as in the wrong side of the actual quilt, but for us new quilters, it sounds like you mean "wrong side of the fabric down"!
That’s a really good question. Woven fabric is a cotton fabric that is woven rather than printed so it has no wrong side. We have a video that shares all of the different types of fabrics for you. I’ll link it.
Anything that frays easily such as toweling, linens. There’s a woven section on the website, too. Basically, it’s a looser weave than traditional quilting cotton.
I understand, that makes perfect sense. Check out this video Cindi did explaining all the difference of quilting fabics, including wovens, ruclips.net/video/3sL-rwe9T2o/видео.html
I live on the coast of Tx. I am making one with light weight batting, flannel backing and quilters cotton for the top. It is going to be very lightweight with some softness.
I really wanted to purchase the book but I hesitate to spend $11 to have a small book shipped. That seems rather pricey. Just an opinion. Maybe I'll change my mind. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the video. Very good content.
Wait… Just in case you don’t watch us on our weekly chat show… Quilters cotton is a 60 square woven greige good but it is printed. So there’s technically a right and a wrong side. Woven fabric is literally dyed threads that are woven so there is no right or wrong side. So when it frays it has full color. Hope that makes sense.
I've watched a dozen rag quilt videos.they are all great BUT Your video is by far the best. I suggest everyone watch this one first.
You must have a teaching degree. ❤
I agree.
Another layer of flannel works in the middle of your fabric square too. Then all your squares can be the same size, and you just cut thru all 3 layers . I like to use a contrasting solid flannel.
Yep. I do that often as well!
That is how I do all of my rag quilts.
Great idea! Thank you!
Your rag quilts are adorable. I’m definitely going to make a few. You’ve inspired me.
I’m glad!! Soft snd washable!
The blanket with the bear...ohhh myyyy...LOVE IT❤
Awesome work! Love the animals too! Thanks so much for the tutorial!
Brianna, absolutely beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing your talents with us!!! It is much appreciated!!! I hope that you have a blessed week!!!

Enjoyed seeing the examples near end of video. TY!
Thank you Brianna! Really nice job of explaining everything. I love when you said this is the quilt you take to the park and have picnics on. That is what I want a quilt that is used!
I made a raggedly quilt a while ago and used Minky for the back of the squares. Makes a lovely cosy quilt.
Great idea! I have so many minkee scraps that would be good for this! Plus it makes batting unnecessary since it’ll be heavier.
I love making these. They make the best gifts. I rarely use batting and I clip as I go because it' s much easier and faster.
Thank you for this. Trying to figure out the rag quilt for my daughter's 4H project. I love the mini jokes throughout the video. You brought many smiles to my face. 😂

Great video. I love what you did with the teddy bears. Such a good variation.
Nice realistic tutorial on making rag quilts! Might as well go into this project with your eyes open. My grandkids love them!!
Love this!! Great video! Thank you so much.
Just ordered the book. Can’t wait to get it! Lovemaking rag quilts! No binding and so forgiving of sewing mistakes!
Love the sheep and bear rag quilts with chenille! Super awesome. Thank you for a wonderful video.
Love this video. Love, love, love your quilts.
Such a cute and bright rag quilt! Thank you for sharing!

I made a large rag quilt from 5 inch denim and two layers of flannel. It's heavy, which was perfect for my sister... she loves the weight of it.
That a cool idea! So you did you put the layers of flannel in the middle like batting? Sorry, I have no idea what I’m doing 😆

Love this! Thanks for sharing this sweet quilt pattern Brianna!

Well done. Thanks
Great instructions 🙂
Love it! Can hardly wait to try this!

Love the colors on your personal quilt

Explained better than any one I have watched. Keep up the good work.
Great video! Thank you!
I did a rail fence throw this way . I Love it!
Thank you for all the ideas beautiful quilt on the wall I love it thanks so much❣️🪡🧵✂️💖💕❤️
Great tutorial, thank you Brianna! And the quilt behind you is gorgeous, but those don't look like 10-inch squares. Can you please share with us what size squares they are?
Great tutorial and great info! Thank you!
I have a lot of materials so I'm going to make some raggedy quilt.
Nice video!! Thanks Brianna 💜
Very well explained!
I never thought about using mix match or what ever thread your have available
You could use an old wool blanket that has shrunk in the wash , cut it up to use as batting. It would be very warm.
I am planning to use cotton for the top and flannel for the batting and solid fleece for the back. Is there a way to have the back all one piece and sew the other 2 layers to it. I am in a hurry to make the before granddaughter takes off for college
Great video!
Love it!!

Brianna, can you show how to make the sheep quilt??
Would fabric from t shirts work too or would it be too stretchy? I really like this idea.
Where can I find that cute bear on your blanket?
How much fabric would be needed to make a queen size rag quilt?
google...square count for rag quilts. I got a chart from doing that
No sheep applique available, but bears are sold out 🤔
Question… can I sew 3 lines down from top to bottom of square instead of an X?
Of course! That would be a great texture!
I think the first step in stacking should be "wrong side up" not down! Great video...I just ordered the Fiskar Rag Snips!
I have a question. If you finish connecting all of your squares together and some end up coming out farther on the sides than others, what do you do??
If it's just a tad off...I square up (trim the excess off) before I top stitch
Love this ! Do the pinked edges of 10” precuts need to be trimmed off?
No it’s a preference thing. You can if you’d like but not necessary.
Thank you Barbara 😊
Love
Can you use fleece in the middle or just batting? I'm new at this.
You can use fleece. No trouble.
Why is your back wrong side down? Should that be wrong side up?
I second that question! I got confused by that statement!
I really like how your daughter explains things. She is very down to earth. Very creative. Thank you
When she said “wrong side” she meant the “back side” of the quilt. Like how in crochet there’s a right side and wrong side.
@@barbarahartman8948 just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I've made a few so again, just wanted to make sure.
What exactly do you mean by woven fabrics? Cotton? Linen? Sweat clothes type fabric? A basic question but I’m a beginner :-)
That’s a really good question. Woven fabric is a cotton fabric that is woven rather than printed so it has no wrong side. We have a video that shares all of the different types of fabrics for you. I’ll link it.
Woven fabrics unravel easily if the raw edge isn’t sewn- like toweling or linen. Knits and fleece don’t fray like flannel and linen.
It would be appreciated if you gave some examples instead of just saying "woven fabric", what fabrics might this be besides flannel?
Anything that frays easily such as toweling, linens. There’s a woven section on the website, too. Basically, it’s a looser weave than traditional quilting cotton.
I understand, that makes perfect sense. Check out this video Cindi did explaining all the difference of quilting fabics, including wovens, ruclips.net/video/3sL-rwe9T2o/видео.html
❤❤❤❤
Gonna have to use up my flannel and make one of these.
Or you live in Florida and it doesn't get below 40 hardly ever - but I like the flannel :) tytyty just don't need the batting on this one
I live on the coast of Tx. I am making one with light weight batting, flannel backing and quilters cotton for the top. It is going to be very lightweight with some softness.
Why to you indicate cotton is not woven. If you think it is not woven, hoe do you think it is put together?
I really wanted to purchase the book but I hesitate to spend $11 to have a small book shipped. That seems rather pricey. Just an opinion. Maybe I'll change my mind. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the video. Very good content.
I can’t see comments
What is woven fabric isn't cotton woven
Good question. yes. I will show you guys on Wednesday morning….
Wait… Just in case you don’t watch us on our weekly chat show… Quilters cotton is a 60 square woven greige good but it is printed. So there’s technically a right and a wrong side. Maybe it’s her generation but she uses the word “cool”. Way. Too. Much.
