I just came across your video. I wished I would have watched it before I went fabric shopping for my great-grandson's baby quilt. I bought 5 different fabric's and using only 2 or 3 looks so much easier. I saved your video to re-watch.
Great video and instructions. Thank you for the explanations on many of the steps, including the little tips. I have sewn for years and even with 50 yrs experience it is always nice to get little tips. It's a shame that some comments are critical but don't let that stop you from sharing more. I love this idea and am going to give it a try. Thank you for sharing such an awesome idea!
I like to double stitch around the outer edge, 1/4 inch apart. Then when I snip, I cut much closer together to create much more ragging. I think it looks so much nicer! Thanks for your video!
The lap quilt finishes at 48” X 54”. You can find a few more size options in the blog post: www.adventuresofadiymom.com/2022/10/how-to-make-rag-quilt-easy-tutorial.html
really good video- thank you! I can't tell if both fabrics are flannel or are they quilting cotton? Can you make a rag quilt with just quilting cotton? I have so much fabric I want to use up, and not go buy a bunch of flannel. Any advice is welcomed.
I have done a rag quilt cushion today. But unfortunately we see lining between 2 pieces of fabric, because sometimes, lining is a little larger. How can I cut excess of lining easily and without doing any damage ?
When making the fabric sandwich squares (fabric, batting, fabric), I do sew through the batting. But when sewing each square to the next, then you are correct, I use a 1/2 inch seam allowance, which puts the seam right at the edge of the batting like you said.
What size is this and what type of material do you use cuz I would like to make my daughter a king size rag quilt using cotton on front and back in batting in the middle. I know the ragging will look different if not with flannel but that's okay
This blanket is 48” X 70”. I used 3 1/4 yards fabric each he big two different colors. Hopefully that will help you calculate the amount you need. I used flannel for this blanket. Good luck with your project!
You could use 100 % cotton batting which is pretty thin, or you can use a middle layer of flannel…yes 3 pieces of flannel. I have made several rag quilts and I have never used batting or the third layer of flannel. It depends on how warm you want the quilt.
Hi, I wanted to see you after it was clipped...I am confused...please see if you can understand this. When you have sewn it all together, it seems that before you actually cut it that it's smashed down in the corners. Not sure if you understand what I mean. WHen you first sew the strips right side up it's fine. It's sewing the square strips together where I get confused. Are we supposed to undo it in that lil corner so it stands up? It seems no one has gone over this part...Please help

Are both layers flannel in this quilt? I love the fabrics you chose. ❤
Both outer layers are flannel, the middle layer is batting.

My very first rag quilt was made from cotton fabric. So yes, you can use cotton.
Why didn't you cut off the other selvage?
Did I miss you sewing all the way around the outside of the quilt!?
I have done a rag quilt cushion today.
But unfortunately we see lining between 2 pieces of fabric, because sometimes, lining is a little larger.

I assume you don't sew through the batting. Is the seam right at the batting?

Wondering … do you increase your stitch length?
What color thread did you use I want to make this
I used blue thread. It you can use whatever will match your fabric
What kind of materials are you using? Cotton or flannel?
I use flannel. It frays quite well for rag quilts.
what kind of fabric you are using?
I’m using flannel

Is this quilt cotton , or flannel ?
Flannel
❤❤❤
How many pieces for a adult quilt
Batting? How thick or no batting??
I didn’t add batting- the blanket was already thick and heavy from the puffs so I didn’t want to add more bulk
Gotcha!

Thank you for such a quick reply! I understand. ☺️
I hate sitting here watching people cut fabric. Thank God for fast forward
So do I, but it does say in the title for beginners….
