In the German version of the movie, the subtitles are really written backwards, but unfortunately, one sentence doesn't make any sense even if you put it in the right order:

Honestly if it was in the first few episodes they should have just done nothing and just showed how the world works, just showing small little details and have them solve some like small problem.

It's not even the visual style or the concept of weird plants which makes it so epic for me - it's really more the work of the climax sync of music, SFX & video. Slow calm start and even as the catastrophe unfolds, it's still quite calm but then it's getting more violent and aggressive - whoever timed this all this way, was brilliant. And yeah, the end at 2:27 transfers such a melancholy. Sadly, the movie failed to transfer anything else than disappointment.
To me, this song, and the Guts theme from Berserk and Space Lion from Cowboy Bebop belong to a special place in my anime music. It's so brilliant and soothing and makes me think this world isn't as rotten as SJWs and US "liberals" make it out to be. Edit : also Ghost in the shell Making of cybord and other Kenji Kawaii stuff.

I picked this movie up at a local shop that’s sells anime. Only picked it up as it was apart of a buy 3 get one free sort of deal and thought why not. While the movie for film was okay this opening scene was fantastic. This scene gave me goosebumps and it still does rewatching it. Love it.

this anime movie has been in the back of my mine for years, been trying to find it since forever
yeah, same here. this is one of the best opening sequences ever made even after stuff like Deadpool's Angel Of The Morning scenequence thing proved the value of making them more than just a thing to run the opening credits during or a catchphrase mnemonic for a series but the movie itself is so forgettable it makes it really hard to look up when you get reminded of it if you can even remember to associate the forgettable movie with the sequence.
it's in that weird zone where If they couldn't have made it better they probably should have made it intentionally _worse_ because there isn't even anything wrong with it to make it memorable, it's just about as run-of-the-mill as you can get in the true sense of the phrase that it is a thoroughly standardized product of a well developed production line.

Nah it about humans who messed with nature, so nature punished man and after that it was a choice if man would accept nature and live in harmony with it or embrace technology again, at least I think that is what the movie was trying to get across

Movie is honestly meh but still worth a watch. Although the opening is by far the best part of the movie. They could've done so much more with the plot than what they actually did.

The audio used in this upload was from the Japanese DTS 6 channel track from the German Blu-Ray release. I've just checked the original file and the volume is the same.
So yeah, it's intentional by whoever mastered it.
