i've never experienced the pain n grief of gentrification as detailed in bbksdd but mike does such a beautiful job of getting the point across that so much more than concrete n drywall gets destroyed when buildings (read: communities) like his r disposed of by someone who sees more profit than humanity. mike wasn't just living in the building, he WAS the building!!
boar im pro gentrification that shit got me a grocery store and a wendys the projects were a failed experiment that didn't work the police would have to bring a swat team to do there job it was like the judge dread reboot
I've watched this video a lot over the last few years and I JUST noticed that he puts that dude in a Sharpshooter at the end. Mike is a real one for that.
Amazing track by OME!!! This track and video are so flawless!!! We appreciate what you do Open Mike!!! Along with all of Mellow Music Group!!! Best label out!!💯🙏🙏🙏
Dope!!!!! Just heard this & on repeat now! Ride down state street bangin this....Glad he addressed this the way he did, just reminiscing on the days of my Taylor bricks.....My old neglected, ignored homebase born & raised now just a few brick 3 stories & a bunch of vacancy on the other side of the street! No new affordable homes built on all that vacant land! Thnx Mike for this track!!!!!
I've been listening to this track almost every morning when I wake up since it's release. But i really don't like the advertisement over the video at the end, that totally interrupts the ending.
I grow up in Chicago heights Illinois and when they knocked pjs in Chicago proper there was crazy in flux of crime to where I lived which was an already crime socked place, but as a kid you don't realize that some one has been displaced and what that did to them.
After my coming out my parents made my life hell. 6 months later I still couldn't find an apartment because of the hideous housing market. I'm moving now, literally bullied out of my home town :(
I fuckin love this. It reminds of kid cudi in the way that its such a dynamic sound. This is the second amazing track I've heard accompanied by a super sick video.

Mike has done it again. Idk how someone maintains this type of constitency and still be underrated Bruh.
That one verse where he’s rapping from the point of view of the BUILDING is some master level storytelling

GREAT!
"i promise you / i will never fit in your descriptions" fitted in the descriptions. XD
Don't call me n**** or rapper
My motherfucking name is Michael Eagle, I'm sovereign
I'm from a line of ghetto superheroes, I holla
I got something to bring to your attention, attention, attention, attention, attention
I promise you I will never fit in your descriptions, I'm giant
Don't let nobody tell you nothing different, they lyin'
A giant and my body is a building, a building, a building, a building
No surfaces underground
No sound, but I'm calling home
City broke in my brother's town
Now I'm standing here all alone
Some weather my monochrome
And my hollow bones David Bowie told me
I'm not alone, and I'm overgrown
But these model homes
Still here, if it's hot or cold
Still here, if my body move
Still standing on Cottage Grove
Still do what I gotta do
Stone tablet on stone tablet
I'm old granite, I'm not a tomb
Y'all can move this whole planet
I'll hold fast and I follow through
I promise you
There because the shelters, basement, hallways
Early morning Sunday, midnight, all day
Do what the adults say, don't engage in horseplay
People speak in tongues
Don't call me nigga or rapper
My motherfucking name is Michael Eagle, I'm sovereign
I'm from a line of ghetto superheroes, I holla
I got something to bring to your attention, attention, attention, attention, attention
I promise you I will never fit in your descriptions, I'm giant
Don't let nobody tell you nothing different, they lyin'
A giant and my body is a building, a building, a building, a building
My under name is 3-9-2-5
Make sure that my story's told
Sixteen is so stories high
Constructed fifty five years ago
Winter weather yeah here we go
Shy Town and my building cold
Stood here for ten million snows
Wind chilled is all in my bones
Indivisible, indivisible
Kids and criminals young and old
No radiator my dungeon coal
Done the hump, but use something slow
Twenty down and just one to go
City say they gonna knock me down
Still wearing my iron hood
Told ya'll won't stop me now
Don't call me n***** or rapper
My motherfucking name is Michael Eagle, I'm sovereign
I'm from a line of ghetto superheroes, I holla
I got something to bring to your attention, attention, attention, attention, attention
I promise you I will never fit in your descriptions, I'm giant
Don't let nobody tell you nothing different, they lyin'
A giant and my body is a building, a building, a building, a building
There because the shelters, basement, hallways
Early morning Sunday, midnight, all day
Do what the adults say, don't engage in horseplay
People speak in tongues
Momma's in the basement smokin' something
We grew up in hazes, ride checks, dungeons
Graduation lunches, tried to make us something
See what we've become
Don't call me n***** or rapper
My motherfucking name is Michael Eagle, I'm sovereign
I'm from a line of ghetto superheroes, I holla
I got something to bring to your attention, attention, attention, attention, attention
I promise you I will never fit in your descriptions, I'm giant
Don't let nobody tell you nothing different, they lyin'
A giant and my body is a building, a building, a building, a building
