Congratulations Dark Comedy. You were the first Open Mike Eagle album I ever listened to and (eventually) owned. I’ll be playing you the rest of the week to honor your birthday.
Happy birthday Dark Comedy. I'll admit it was actually Fantano that got me onto this album. I was dating a girl that was obsessed with Kanye and got me back into it after I had spent most of my life listening to various types of metal and I wanted to dip my toe deeper in the genre. And man, this album hit me hard, I became obsessed with it and Perfect Hair and Hellfyre Club to the point I think I made that girl hate the idea of handing me an aux cable. By coincidence I listened to the album again for the first time in a while only a couple of months ago. A lot of nostalgia and sentiment, it really was the start of a big new chapter in my life if only in terms of music tastes.
Dark Comedy was the one that hooked me onto you. It was the first thing of yours I’d heard and I for the life of me cannot remember who I heard about it from. It wasn’t anyone online, it was definitely an acquaintance, but they really did me a favor. Following your constant evolution from that point has been incredibly rewarding. Keep doin’ you, Mike.
This album is one of my faves. But honestly OME always makes me smile and get hyped as soon as I load Spotify up and see the new drop. WHHW, The Questions, and more have been a mainstay in my media consumption. Thanks Mike and all the homies from Stony Island.
Dark Comedy and the Special Episode EP were the first rap releases I ever fell in love with, and I only love them more all the time. Obviously that makes me biased, but even in 2015 I was confused about some of the mixed comments about them. Things like the singing only elevate the album for their uniqueness. The entire tone is jovial without being unserious or ironic. It addresses tons of different topics without feeling naive or self-important. All of that stuff is extremely hard to balance. I cant imagine feeling like either record is missing anything. To me, Dark Comedy was like lying down and tuning in to someone else's stream of consciousness, and those kinds of albums are still my favorite.
I didn't get nothing for Father's Day!
This has inspired me to buy my dad a Yaris, Thanks Hannibal
poor hannibal
You have to take care of them first!
I don't know about not buying a Honda civic because it's a girl's car but you wouldn't catch me dead in yaris
*anything

OME has a classic catalogue no miss steps

Been listening to Doug Stamper in my Yaris for like 8 years now, and that'll continue until the car dies or I do. HBD Dark Comedy!
This is for sure one of my favorite albums of yours, Mike. Not a single skippable track throughout. Happy belated birthday, Dark Comedy!

Very Much Money remains a top 10 favorite song of all time and Dark Comedy in general remains an amazing record i return too often.
Dark comedy, changed me when I listened to it! Also the version of "dark comedy late night show" with exile is one of my all time favorite songs!
Shoutout to Ken from Dead End Hip Hop for following during this live stream haha!
Deserved a 9 imo
Happy Birthday Dark Comedy ✌🏼
Idaho has remained one of the most interesting and unique songs I have ever heard. #RapNostrils
I only checked you out because of this review. Melon put me on.
I definitely named a kitchen tool of mine "Doug Tamper" bc of this album 😂
Classic album. My first introduction to OME, and his second best album IMO
Love Busdriver.

I've always loved Mikes singing especially on very much money, But then again I often love singers who are not very good singers technically.
Now I have to go relisten!
But, for real, "Modern Dance" is a hell of a beat to me. A standout.
Eat an edible and write some bars
sad i missed this one
Damn, 9 years?? Wow
nothing more usual than an 8 turning 9
Nice 👍
Fantano thinks he's the be all and end all of music reviews.

I just realized how cringe Fantano was like 10 years ago hahaha
