Not many know this but in the movie wonderland ,christina applegate who played ron lannius wife only took the small part because as a kid she lived higher up on wonderland ave and remembered seeing the bloody mattresses outside the house after the murders happened ,crazy
That is eerie. Times have sure changed with how inn1979 they would just throw materials from a murder out in the street for the garbage men to pick up, versus now in 2023 it is considered prized evidence.
I remembered that Applegate was in the movie but I didn't know about her connection with the real murder location

I grew up close to this area, this was huge and very confusing news at the time. Throughout the 1970's, we explored much of the Laurel Canyon area never really knowing what was happening behind all those closed doors. It's a very haunted area anyway, and no way could I ever live in a house like that.

Interesting fact, I was in the LAPD academy when this happened. We were close to graduating and we were called to the house to search the surrounding property for a weapon. Found nothing but we were given an inside tour of the crime scene. All I recall is the smell.
Can you please describe the smell ? Was it more tobacco smell or the smell of death. I heard the body’s lied there for at least 12 hours.

Such a good movie. I think they really nailed it on the realism. They didn't get how unhealthy he was at the end of it all but the scenes are pretty horrific, the house looks very similar and the whole lead up was dead on. Shout out to Lisa Kudrow too, that was her best role as a drama in my opinion. Wonderland, watch it!
The part about David Lind and Barbara Richardson is almost all fiction. Their whereabouts, arrival, comings and goings weren't as they were portrayed as in the film. I know that's just a Hollywood thing, but in that film, I took it so literally, especially since they jump cut in the real death shots. My husband and I tend to rewatch some of the same films. I can't watch that one again.

My mother bought me a bright yellow T-shirt when I was 7 years old from a second hand store and it had, I love Linda Love Lace, on the front.
I couldn't understand why my friends dads would laugh when I wore it.
My older brother used to hang out with John and they got high together. My brother was a good guy, John took advantage of him many times, like not coming back with the drugs, apartment was robbed of jewelry, electronics, cash, etc. He knew it was John because he kind of avoided My brother after it but there's no proof of it. My brother would drive him around,..I seen him a few times, once sitting in the car one time while my brother came home to get something for a second and I'll never forget he was sitting in the passenger seat and Supertramp, "take the long way home"... Was playing on the radio. One other time he was sitting in the living room and didn't even acknowledge me when I said hi to him. Looking back he could of been high. At the time he was pretty much past his fame and looked like just a regular guy, kind of a scruffy beard going on.... Their friendship lasted only about less than a year, my brother before he passed away said to me that John ripped him off. I don't know the whole story, my brother was very private but just an interesting piece here. It definitely brought me back. Thanks... Oh and when the wonderland murders things happened it was hard for me to see him being involved in something like that but hey I didn't really know him that well and drugs makes you do those kind of things you know. Thanks again. You have a great piece here.

Nicely made. There were actually 3 members of the Wonderland Gang that entered Nash's home for the robbery: Ron Launius, Billy DeVerell and David Lind. Tracy McCourt waited in the getaway car. I was lucky enough to take pics of the Doña Lola home before it was remodeled. Malice In Wonderland: The Inside Story of the Police Investigation of The Laurel Canyon Murders is the best book I've read about the the murders.

Eddie Nash owned the Starwood (among other businesses) which was located at the intersection of Santa Monica and Crescent Heights. The amount of Hollywood music history that happened there could be an episode in itself - Van Halen, Motley Crue, Dokken, Quiet Riot, Go Go's, so many more.

There was a bit of a rivalry between him and Eddie Van Halen. However, according to his brother (Kelle Rhoads). It was exaggerated by the press (As most things are.).
Back in 1980 i saw the Plimsouls at the Starwood , i was about 16. 🤪
Regarding the Starwood, before HE was murdered Bobby Fuller and his Band the Bobby Fuller Four (remember their hit song "I fought Law") played there in 1965-1966. Fuller was murdered and found on Sycamore Ave. in Hollywood in 1966 (not more than 50 ft from where Janis Joplin was found dead from an overdose). Hollywood is FILLED with history

I would never feel at peace in my own home. Haunted or not haunted, there would always be the knowledge in my mind that there was a bloody, violent, brutal mess there many years ago. I need my home to be peaceful.
I absolutely love the plants and greenery at the houses on the street, so full of life and color. Passing by you would never know a house that beautiful had that type of a history.
That does look nice.

Wonderland was a great movie but John's real life was so much more tragic than people realized

The Wonderland Murders to me will be an unsolved mystery and Holmes was an absolute trainwreck the last few years of his life. Great research and video guys and glad you were able to take video of the house, well done !!

Great work, as always! I will also note that the night of the murders, Holmes showed up at the home of his wife, Sharon, who hadn't seen him in months. He was covered in blood and Sharon, a former nurse, ran a bath for him in an effort to try and clean and treat his wounds. However, Sharon quickly realized that John was not injured and that the blood was not his. According to Sharon, John told her he had been involved in a robbery and had been made to witness the murder of his fellow perpetrators. Shortly after cleaning up, Holmes left and returned to the motel where his girlfriend was waiting for him. Strange guy.

I bought the Wonderland DVD at Walmart around 2008. Was really surprised to see the crime scene footage added in as a bonus feature.
There was an issue of hustler magazine that had an article of the wonderland murders. The photos were very graphic. I also remember Eddie Nash investigated several times way before the wonderland murders.

I do have the original Wonderland DVD and the "Bonus" footage is very gruesome. Some of the bodies are still in "situ", which I never expected to see. So, just a heads up. Great video as always. John Holmes was a terrible person in my opinion and Val Kilmer nailed him in the film.

My friend Julia Negron exwife of Chuck Negron, discovered the bodies at wonderland. She fled to call police, leaving another person there who the police found when responding.

I had to jump on this one. This one was creepy AF when it happened...weird. I've watched and read everything on this including the police video with the bodies still in place. This was a brutal killing and those people were innocent. What got me was neighbors heard the screams but thought it was a "scream therapy" session going on. Only in California, the land of fruits and nuts. And me being a native. Smdh.

Those people were far from innocent. They were dope slinging , armed robbers who had monster drug habits themselves. They thought they were wild but ran into Eddie Nash. The Wonderland gang got exactly what they had coming.

Great video about this very scary and horrific crime. I was only 10 years old when it happened, but i still remember watching the news reports on tv and it sent chills down my spine and it still does to this very day.

They rented that house for 750.00 a month. Can only imagine what it would go for today. Got that from an essay on the case in Rolling Stone magazine called "The Devil and John Holmes."
Wonderland with Val Kilmer *is* worth a look. Fortunately, nothing discomforting tends to be found in the movie. It's more of a filmic experience involving the Wonderland murders. The director spared no expense on quality. You won't waste your time seeing it.
This is my second video on your channel, which I am diggin! Love your style and overall vibe, you take us on an intimate journey as you casually stroll past the scene of the crime, an insiders view as you lay out the details. I was completely into it the whole way through. "Wonderland" there are so damn many layers to this, each an entire story in its own right. "Eddie Nash" you could do an entire video and then some just on him. "Johnny the Wad Holmes" a sad tragic chapter, I'm curious to know more about this guy, was there ever a time in his life prior to his downward slope, beginning with his involvement with porn, I'd consider that the crossing over to the dark side, was there ever a good regular sort of dude, I like to think he lived a better version of himself prior to the drugs, cocaine is some nasty business. Need to watch both "Wonderland" and "Boogie Nights", do a double feature, both are exceptional. Great job Sir, appreciate your work.😎❤️🔥

But I'm sure the city would be all over her (another intended pun) about the noise and of course the traffic and parking in that tiny stretch of street. It was the carpet cleaners that heard Susan Launius moaning for a long long time ; the night before people thought the screams were some primal scream therapy and/or they heard so much noise all the time in that apt no one thought to call the police ; it’s amazing that Susan Launius was saved ( only remembering shadows ) thanks for the video it was cool to see all of the locations !
Always been fascinated by this case. Ron Lanius was a Vietnam vet who spent time in jail for importing heroin inside dead soldiers. Apparently anyway. He was also suspect in many murders. Well, live by the sword I suppose. Great vid guys.

Yeah...our favorite scene from Boogie nights was the "Awesome tape mix" where they play "Sister Christian". We are old enough to have had our own awesome tape mix...although never named it so!🤣 So yeah Boogie Nights got my husband and I interested in seeing the "talented" member that was John Holmes. I nearly fell over. I was like "That is NEVER gonna fit in her!" It hurt my Va Jay Jay to watch!! I definitely walked away thinking....Bigger is NOT better! The film we saw was about the time he had AIDS. John wasn't able to keep at full attention. He didn't look healthy at all. Never heard or seen the Val Kilmer movie. We are gonna watch it this summer. My husband is retiring and I already am so we are gonna travel! (Am just disappointed at Hollywood going back to the well....making another "Top Gun" on the subject of Val Kilmer.) I've been to several grisly historic homes. I love history and remind people that although dark...all of this IS history!

Wunderland murderers I never knew much about. Thanks for a look inside the story. I've read everything I can on the Manson family. This one looks very similar as to a hit. John Holmes was told to have snitched to the police about porn shoots he was not part of. Motivation and accuracy of that ,I cannot verify .

Im sure you have scene the video taken by police detectives of aftermath. Fascinating. What a bloodbath. The killers did not hold back but im stunned no one heard anything. Most victims were asleep i think.

I'm so obsessed with it. idk why but I'm fascinated by it. it's sad and awful but regardless they were humans and didn't deserve to die that way. especially Barbara Richardson and Susan Lanius.
I totally agree with you on that. They were human beings. They didn't deserve what they got. But it's something about this case that draws people in and want the truth of what happened that night

This video sent me down a rabbit hole. I watched the Wonderland movie and any other video I could find on RUclips within the week.
I was born in 70 ..and we lived on lookout mtn. We lived in a house my parents bought from the mamas and the papas. My brother went to that creepy wonderland school which has its own strange history.
My mom was an actress ..and she was terrified during the Manson murders.
Once when I was 4 I wandered off. I walked down to Lauren canyon and played under the stone arch that lead to the abandoned Houdini mansion.
It’s a unique area that will always be a part of my life.

I absolutely love the part of going to the Pussycat. Most people didn’t know the history John Holmes had in the Los Angeles adult film industry.
The murder in and of itself was horrific and with one survivor, it was a horrific battery. John’s palm print was on the brass bed headboard and wall. Everyone knew he did it but in the end AIDS got him.

The people in that house robbed Ed Nash, aa Armenian Mob figure. Ed Nash owned the Starwood, the Seven Seas Restaurant and 3 Kit Kat Klubs. Ed suspected John Holmes set up the robbery. Ed and his body guard threaten to kill Holmes unless he came up with suspects who robbed him. Holmes to Ed and his body guard to Wonderland where they slaughter everyone. Ed eventually went to jail for racketeering. Ed's daughter got Power of Attorney and closed all of his businesses. I was once a bouncer at the Lennox Kit Kat.
In aother video , they stated The print was from another time as it was not soaked in blood . The blood ran over an old print yet he would not identify the men who were involved that night . Gregory Diles and a couple of other men beat them to death. Tom Lange was one of the Detectives from the O.J. Simpson case was on this case as well

This was excellently done. My late father was a drug trafficker and crime figure in Hollywood in the 70s and early 80's and I grew up around all the characters you are referencing.

Great video! This case is crazy!! I'd be nervous to live on the street to be honest the story gives me the creeps lol nevermind living in the actual home! You always have respect Mr. Grimm the people that have had trouble with this woman have been rude and had zero respect so I don't feel sorry if she yelled at them, you however always have class and respect. Very Grimm story that's for sure! The video of the walk through I've watched (idk why I subjected myself but did) it was scary props to the men who had to walk through that. The movie was phenomenal Val Kilmer crushed it!!!

Not really, the timeline of events has been pretty well established for quite some time, another inaccuracy is the claim of Eddie Nash never really admitting to anything, the fact is at one point during his trial years after the events he admitted to sending his bodyguard, whose name if I remember correctly was Greg, over to Wonderland to retrieve what had been stolen from him but at the same time claimed he didn't tell him to kill or harm anyone and for all he ever knew they didn't and it was anyone of a number of people who the Wonderland gang had screwed over that could have been who went in there afterwards and killed those people.
Now of course that was a ridiculous statement but at the time he could safely make it because several years before in 1997 his bodyguard had passed away from health related issues, at that point he could implicate him and not worry about him turning around and testifying against him for putting him at the location of the crime on the early morning hours it happened, it's not like the guy was gonna turn around and say "Since you're gonna put me at the crime scene I'm gonna testify that you ordered me to kill them", he couldn't, he was dead.
The only thing that really remains a mystery is whether or not Holmes actually participated in the murders by being forced to or whether he was just forced to watch, the only people who could have ever cleared up that detail are dead so it's just left up to people what they personally feel happened with that, but whether or not he was physically there isn't a mystery anymore and hasn't been for some time.
After Holmes' death both Dawn Shiller and Holmes' ex wife both admitted to things that they never would have along as he was alive because those things would have put him on the scene and they protected him with their silence while he was still alive.
The movie Wonderland is one of the very few examples of Hollywood writers getting their hands on a story and not greatly fictionalizing things for dramatic effect, which is curious because most of the time when they do that and you find out the true story behind something it leaves you wondering why they fictionalized something because the true story turns out to be even better and would have made for an even better movie.
I'm constantly warning people in life not to believe they've learned about an historical event from watching a movie, but Wonderland is one of the very few movies that I'll tell someone if they wanna know what happened just watch the movie, I remember when the Wonderland murders broke in the news back in the summer of 81 and have always had an interest in them for that very reason, I've read about them, watched interviews with the people involved like the vice detective that knew Holmes from when Holmes was actually working as an informant for the LA vice squad in the 70's when he was making porn movies that was brought in by the detectives investigating the murders to talk to Holmes trying to get him to cooperate, his wife, Dawn Shiller, and even a guy never mentioned in any of these things who was the subject of a Martin Scorsese bio film called American Boy, that was made prior to his time in LA and these events, who was a friend of Scorsese from NY who'd happened to be hanging around at Wonderland with the gang and John Holmes just prior to the killings that was smart enough to see the writing on the wall and got away from the place and went back to NY just before the murders happened, another famous person who had inside knowledge of all this that's never mentioned in these things was the guy who was a young kid at the time and a lover of Liberace, he was portrayed in a movie by Matt Damon about his relationship with Liberace, he was hanging around with Eddie Nash at the time all this happened and he overheard things being said in Nashs' house that are of relevance to the case, yea, the movie Wonderland gets it right and is one of the very few movies I'll recommend to someone if they want to learn about a particular historical event.

Good job guys, the evidence points to John Holmes actually gaining access to the house by buzzing up, to let Eddie Nash's henchmen in, but Holmes was to witness I think every single murder, his fingerprints/palm prints were found everywhere of course, because he was a frequent visitor to the Wonderlands property. His guilt on doing that destroyed him, because he was the only witness, he feared for his life. There is a police video of the crime scene, where you see the victims (not recommended, if you are squeamish), it was the first video crime scene footage ever to be used by the police in the US. Another RUclipsr Daze with Jordan the Lion, had an encounter with the owner, she wasn't best pleased! To be honest I can see why this is! Ayway great video!
Ive seen several death houses...in my opinion...don't buy a death house & not expect people to visit. Thats why Rose Wests home was destroyed...its a week park.
I’ve seen the police walkthrough video, a lot of damage to the victims. I figured Nash was trying to send a message to Holmes about what happens if you double cross him, just a shame he didn’t get the punishment he deserved (Nash)

Chuck & Rose West....some pretty nasty cereal killers. I think Rose is beyond Evil. They killed their own daughter and buried her under their patio. The other kids in the house would play patty cake to a sing sing rythm about their dead sister under the patio. I don't talk about her husband as much because he had the good sense to kill himself before the trial because he knew he wouldn't survive jail. Rose West is mean to the core...she would keep a shank in her hair bun. That woman had no problems with jail! Yes....they were from the UK.

They should have known better than rob Edddie Nash. The woman diddnt deserve what happened, but Ron and Billy both knew the risk, they must thought the reward was worth the risk, they were wrong.

When Grimm said there might be some danger in taking video of the house, I was like "Ok, just be careful, dude." Then he started shooting the house while talking about it for a good minute.... then kept shooting the house and getting closer! At which point I was sitting on the edge of my couch practically yelling at the screen for him to get outta there before something awful DID happen to him! He had way more guts than I ever would doing the same thing. Anyway, another great episode. I'm a huge fan. Keep them coming!
