    Ahhh I hope you love this makeover! I loved the original piece however the condition and overall style of the piece just didn't match the new aesthetic for my parents home! However the transformed version is the perfect base for a future bathroom makeover!

    You did the right thing with the wood speckling! Just a tip for the future: also add it to the sides a bit to make it cleaner looking and you should be able to use a spatula/putty knife/whatever you call it in English to sort of pre-form the lines. If it feels to wet, let it sit for a little bit until it starts to firm up a bit. It'll make the sanding process much easier. Two painting tips: 1. don't be afraid to really go into the caps and details with the paint and the brush. It'll help sort of fill them and in the end it'll look smoother and newer in the end. 2. I can't really see whether you're doing it or not, since you're not showing it, but always make sure you'll finish painting in the same direction. It's a bit harder to explain in writing, but don't leave weirdly directed strokes-they'll show up after drying. Trust me, I used to work as a restorator and as much as I tried in the beginning, when I had just started on that career path, to fix it, the weird strokes still stayed and I didn't know any better. But, if you are doing it-good job! Maybe there's someone else out there who needs to hear that tip. A lot of people don't know it, surprisingly...

    • @beinthisspace4688

      Would adding a bit of floetrol to it help even out the brushstrokes?

    • @ma-xc1jq
      @ma-xc1jq 3 года назад +11

      Another tip I use to prevent brush stokes is to go down a brush size and use the paint sparingly. It’s not a time saving tip. A big brush and a lot of wet paint getting dragged around is going to leave strokes no matter what you put on top of it.

    • @angelicfrade8600

    When you are brushing with your electric toothbrush DO NOT SCRUB BACK AND FORTH! The back and forth motion will remove enamel off your teeth. Just place the brush on each tooth surface individually without rubbing. You are young and won’t see the damage until you are older.
    Love the vanity, you lucky dog for finding it on the side of the road. You did a great job changing and improving it! Love it.

If you've worked hard all your life and want to treat yourself with a modern bathroom, what is "crazy" about giving this it item away to somebody who actually needs and treasures it? I remember when I lived in Germany it was such a culture shock for me to see people just putting their stuff on the sidewalk for other people for free.. In South Africa nothing is free, we would rather sell everything so that there is money for food and necessities or replacements of what was sold.

      M 560 here in japan as well. if its a bigger piece you pay a lot to have them removed from the garbage storage so usually people who dont want to pay would wait when no one is looking and then find a space to dump them (usually near the garbage storage hoping it will get taken away)

      Charné first thing I thought when I saw this was NEVER EVER in SA. I think we don't have a culture of dumping furniture and appliances. If it's broken let it be fixed, if it's old and just not vibing we give it to someone who needs it or Sell it. I might relocate just to pick up things in this neighborhood cause wow !!!

      Charné Van der Merwe but is it really dumping it if youre putting it out for someone else to take? in my experience the stuff thats still usable almost always finds a new owner in a few hours/days and isnt it nice if someone who needs it can get it for free? my roommates and i got some pretty okay stuff this way, we wouldnt have had the money to pay for at the time.

      If you look close at the area he had to put wood filler on, it’s not actually wood but made from MDF (technically wood but can’t be refinished like “wood”). Stripping and/or sanding MDF would ruin it. I found that out when I tried to refinish a dresser that I thought was wood several years ago. Turned out only drawer fronts were actual wood. 😡😡

      Just a tip on the toothbrush. You don’t need to use it like a non-electric toothbrush; the toothbrush does the work for you so all you need to do is guide it around your teeth inside and outside and the biting surfaces - save the vigorous brushing for your DIY sanding, LOL. 😁
