Every Moanin' video is a wonderful surprise bc there's two different Moanin's
I feel like I had a good guess going into the video…
Korrekt
Hopefully you haven’t been watching the second one
Word, every time I’m wondering Blakey or Mingus and every time I’m happy either way.
@@paulrozier1325yeah, man. Mingus was always moanin’ about something but you know, he always turned it into something extra special 😅
Seeing oatts on emmet's place was a literal dream come true
Isn’t it. Been doing Do Dah Day with my band recently - great tune.
I really don't like his solo
Terell simply kills here.
Dick Oatts was playing like this in Junior High. He blew everyone away when he played lead alto in the Jefferson, Iowa, high school jazz band, 1969-1971. I can hear Paul Desmond in his playing.
He definitely has that Desmondesque tone!
I remember in middle school this one senior used to come from the highschool and play tunes with us. He'd call this "Bad Moanin" cause he said Mingus' one is the RIGHT one. I hope he can appreciate this video
Everyone playing great, however not so often we get a chance to see/hear Dick Oats, amazing.
Dick Oatts is the man!!
How does it feel to be the best jazz channel on youtube??
10:15 god damn! Nice touch
Thanks go to Emmet for bringing Dick and Terell to Emmet’s place. And a special thanks to Dick and Terell for their support of Joan Chamorro’s Sant Andreu Jazz Band.
I always forget that this version of Moanin' exists, but I'm never disappointed when it plays. Wonderful job guys
What a Swingin’ MOANIN’ 🎺🎹🎷🎼🥁
Its really great to have grown up in a town near where these two teach, as my hs band has gotten to meet and perform in front of them on a few occasions. I even have acquaintances that have had the pleasure to be under their direction. So its super neat to see these musicians together on this channel getting the exposure they deserve
Oatts will always make my jaw drop
Emmet thanks for bringing these fabulous musicians together for this set.
Thank you for this wonderful gift...
Dick Oatts is totally amazing. Thanks for posting this.
OH NO THE AUDIO IS MESSING UP! DAMNIT The oats solo haha
made me big sad
@TheDrChaos that's OK though. I used my ears and brain, and I can tell what he played. :)
Been waiting to see Mr.Stafford on here, God is good
Monstrous piano solo as well 🎉
Emmet, this is great .. if you can I think that evening’s “Tin, Tin, Deo” also warrants a RUclips single - was such a great episode on the whole ❤️🎹😊
Oatts 🐐
Great musical experience Emmet! Terell, Dick and Peter definitely brought their chops with them up to the fifth floor. That doesn't make Kyle or are you pikers though, great playing from the both of you. What's up next… Dat Dere?
A great calmer version of Moanin versus the blast-off version of the original in the Art Blakey, Lee Morgan, Bobby Timmons, Benny Golson, and Jymie Merritt's magical, powerful version from the early 60s that lives on as one of the all-time masterpieces of Jazz. A great version of that...by these wonderful players!
holy shit this trumpet sound.. the drums are so clean too
Lots of genius and energy. 🧨 🎹
Wow, Terell is really burning on this one 🔥🔥❤️
Awesome! The solos are amazing!
My only regret is that I can only give this one thumbs up ❤
Art Blakey would be proud of this performance.
What a beautiful Moanin’
Incredible performance
Who’s OG slim daddy on the bass? …….wait, isn’t that Peter Washington? Recorded on Joshua Redman’s live at village vanguard? I’m probably mistaken.
Yes it is Peter Washington!
pwash!
I believe Christopher Thomas was rockin bass on that legendary recording!
I don't think he was on that recording but he *did* play with the jazz messengers
Too much Moanin' is never enough.
WOOOWW WHAT WAS THAT AT 5:30 I AM SCREAMINGGGGG
What a performance!
Nice feel!
Let me tell you folks, if you don’t know anything about jazz and found a video performance of Emmett Cohen and Company, I promise you, you will know everything you need to know at the end of the tune.
RUclips brought me here from the following version of Moanin':

Another great rendition by a Japanese band!!
Amazing.
Thanks!
W O W !!! 🤩
Dick Oats so laid back he's almost early for the next beat.
What is the outro to your videos, I love it and can't find it anywhere but it gets stuck in my head.
👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
weird embochure, great sound!
Holy shit
טוב מעוד אמת, תודה רבא
Damn.
Fantastico. I can tell you.
I was kind of hoping for the other Moanin but this was still good
Красотища! Мурашки по коже!
Emmet Cohen "King of the Compers"
Thanks guys.
Not the Moanin i was expecting but still 👌🏾
1:06 amo-
I notice Mr. Stanford’s please his trumpet off to the corner of his mouth. I wonder if this was by accident or by necessity. I’m a firm believer in a person doing whatever it takes. Everybody’s different.
It all depends on the shape of your mouth. His is a bit extreme though, mine is a bit to the left, I'm a saxophonist though.
I actually got to play with stafford as he came to our city for a festival and he talked about that was just kinda the way he learned to play
@@hincapiej4 makes sense to me 👍🏽 Chad LB played out the side of his mouth for a while and sounds killin
@@hincapiej4 I can totally see that. It looks interesting because he gets quite the sound!
I'll do that at the end of a show when my lips are starting to get tired.
Can anyone please tell me what's the name of the song came last? (from 11:00)
Art Tatum, "Tea for Two" -- if you're looking for the outro version, I'm still trying to find that myself
@@johnlee832 Thanks mate!

was Dick Oatts transcribing from Bb?
I cannot decipher what you mean by your comment
what
I doubt it. It seems there are two sheets on the stand they are sharing.
@@DaDarkGuyhe’s asking whether Oatts was sharing a lead sheet with the trumpet player, transposed for Bb instruments, and transposing on the fly to his alto, an Eb instrument. Implying this may be why he messed up the head so badly.
@@MrGuto that makes sense, I figured he meant transposing but still wasn't sure how it applied, thanks
I'm sure it's not a thing so don't tell anyone, but, Emmet Cohen has more subscribers than Wynton Marsalis... 🤐🤐🤐
Well yeah of course
Oatts was really flopping on that head...his solo made up for it though hahah
As much as I love that tune and Emmet´s playing I feel that the Terell and Oatts did not nail it. KInd of lame and a little bit sloppy ensemble playing by the great Dick Oatts. Go to Art Blakey - Live at Bubba´s. Even (a young) Wynton plays it more lively on that record! ruclips.net/video/xtLdRwNf5e0/видео.html Bobby Watson on alto!...man...
pretty good, but it just dont swing
