That’s gotta be the most varied race I’ve ever seen. A Mustang with a Golf and a Pontiac passing a Hillman Imp and even a Talbot Sunbeam? Mental! (In a good way) 👍🏻
The Pontiac is the best looking car in that lineup, and with 730 hp from that mildly built 455 (7.5 liter) engine (now I think punched out to around 496 cubes), it's certainly a match for that turbocharged 935 Porsche, & blows the rest of those little bitty Euro cars out of the water. Imagine a Ram Air IV or V as an upgraded powerplant over the Edelbrock-headed, Butler-built 455. So cool to see a Trans Am in a Trans Am-style race, without being disqualified as it was in the USA Trans Am series, because of the too large standard engine. And I like the use of the number 8 as a nod to Titus, who died in the US TA series back in the early 70's, driving a #8 Firebird..
@Sean Gavin According to Roger's Facebook page, his car tops out just under 200 m.p.h. with just the basic four speed! Imagine having a six speed, or shoehorning in some fancy new 10 speed? And his engine is a pretty mild build. I've heard of a few other videod dyno runs topping out in the 1500 hp range, normally aspirated. With turbos, the sky's the limit. Make no mistake, Roger's Firebird is not pushing the limits on Pontiac power, & it is a great handling car for something designed in the late 60's (look up Herb Adams).
Everytime I view a video of Roger's car in action (the Trans Am) - I think, what a wonderful vehicle. I'm a V8 lover (daily drive a LS1-based car) for sure. But the comments associated are so ... Full of venom and frankly, anti-German. What's wrong with you guys? Keep in mind, the Porsche 935 has to be one of the most successful endurance and sprint cars of all time and certainly of it's era. You can still find videos of it mopping up more modern hardware. This Trans Am is also highly modified - well beyond it's original spec. On the site about it, they write: "This car is not a real clone, as it has a much bigger engine and more power than the original cars." So do try to keep this in mind when commenting - it's not an accurate comparison of what the 935 would have faced - it's just a FUN race series... So perhaps just try to enjoy the action and the sound!!!
Well said . The Porsche dominates this class . But I will always root for American Muscle . Not taking anything away from Porsche , I just love American cars. Enjoyed watching Mr Bolliger at work in that beautiful Trans Am .
At 970kg or 2138Lbs with 700+Turbo only fed hp, a bit over 500Lb ft tq and the engine obscenely placed aft of its rear tires the Porsche 935 obviously has an insane and obnoxious advantage over Rogers T/A here. For good reason, it’s a factory built race car built with an open checkbook. By Porsche! It diserves respect However if the Trans Am were to be around 1200kg or 2600-2800Lbs I think it would clean up on the 935, turbos or not. It has well over 700hp also and way more then 600 Lb ft of tq without any power adders. Also without the silly space ship nose and whale tail wing obnoxiousness, it would be a real treat to witness a rethought Pontiac show it’s true meat and potatoes while giving Porsche a lil spank on the bottom in the process for good measure to let them know they aren’t the only ones who think about power to weight ratios and weight distribution management. There’s nothing like the pull of a serious Pontiac V8. It’s raw and awe as it should be. Especially in an older Pontiac under 2900Lbs, which I plan to accomplish soon. Look out Porsche, we are watching and learning.
Apples and oranges. SCCA Trans Am series limits displacement to less than 5 litres. With over 7 litres displacement, the Trans Am should have been even more dominant than it was. SCCA rules is SCCA rules.

Damn, 800 hp turbo 935 vs. 800 hp Pontiac big block V8. Awesome battle they had going there in the beginning
Oh yes they had and be assured that these two had a happy drink or two together in paddock after the race
Mr Bolliger You sir do American muscle proud . WOW . Nice driving . Love that Trans Am .
800 HP? You guys are on drugs.
@@Primarch19th probably 700hp each.
But irregardless the equivalency is there. New Trans Am cars now push between 800-900 hp
Roger Bolliger's Trans Am is beautiful! Would love to see it in person one day.

That was fun, I was pulling for the American Muscle for the start.
What a brilliant line-up
Not bad for a car that weighs 3,250lbs race ready. The 1971 Pontiac Trans AM did pretty good.
seriously impressed that the trans am kept the 935 in sight for so long.

16:06 Love the M1!
that pontiac got some pace
Excellent race on the T/A part, also for the 938. The T/A's an asphalt water!!!!
very entertaining video.

American Pony Car Wins! Pontiac Trans Am is a great American car.
That Mk1 Capri is gorgeous, and competitive. The Charger looks great but..... Shame.
Der Trans Am ist ja der Wahnsinn

hab gerade festgestellt, dass das Video in der entsprechenden Playlist fehlt. Hab es hinzugefügt
Damn looks like a car mass breeding session there's like a million in this race
Super Bilder aber das Geschwafel hält ja kein Mensch aus.
Go pontiac go

A true David and Goliath moment . Fantastic to watch .
As much as I like these kind of races, that damn ratchet jaw on the microphone is a complete bummer. He ruined it.

4:15 best moment ever.... The commenter STFU per nearly 10 seconds.
The Mustang was too lean rev'd up and the Charger's air cleaner was too low over the vent tubes.
+TMPCarbs I saw the black smoke from the charger on the strait a way, didn't notice the mustang...cool stuff.
el porsche 935 tenía una lucha con el pontiac transam
The guy who is barking in the mike is on designer drug? Schrecklich vau vau vau
