    Great information! Yes I’ve done Maranta cuttings and it rooted and growing successfully.

    When I accidentally let my maranta silver band dry out all the way through it suddenly started growing out of the pot and making aerial roots! A prayer plant! When she started splitting too much to be able to lift her leaves at night I decided to chop (and check the roots and that’s when I realised what I did). I think I had about 8 cuttings and iIrc every single of them rooted in water or soil. It was crazy!
    But that one has a hell of a life force. I impulse bought her at a garden center in the middle of winter. I packed her into an improvised gift wrap thingy and put a towel around. Still, she had to survive from about 20 degrees (celsius) in the garden Center, being carried for 10 minutes in 0 degrees, then half an hour in an overheated bus (25 or something) and then again 5 minutes in 0 degrees. I was prepared to fight for her but she didn’t loose a single leaf and the tiny bit of crispy edges she already had didn’t get bigger. Insane!

    What a helpful video! Because of your video, I tried the same thing with my Calathea (Goeppertia) Warscewiczii - it had flowered twice. Only one took root in water, and I’ve just potted it today… Fingers crossed it takes 😅 As another commenter said, I appreciate the details you include in your videos as well! 😊

    I've done calathea, ctenanthe and marantas in water, or by division.

    I did this at the beginning of the year with my Zebrina, I was so shocked that calathea was able to do that. fast forward to now and it's still doing well, I transferred to moss once the roots had become established. I wish you the most success with yours 🌱💚

      How did it look like? I have a zebrina and I would like to know how you managed to propogate. Did u wait until the flower formed new leafs or did u cut it right away?

    You mentioned plants that propagate with just leaf cuttings and I was amazed to see this. I have a Peperomia Rosso and my nerve plant both do it! This was a great video Drea! Thank you!

    My warsewiczi did the same thing with flowering and now im proagating it the same way but also i did succesfully propagate it without flowering, i mean maybe before flower occured, and funny thing was it was a long time ago, i knew almost nothing about calatheas - just cut it when saw the node as my mom did with other plants when I was little so i was suprised later when learning abouth calatheas and hearing you cant do this 😂

    i managed to water propagate my calathea freddy, i was trying to pull off some brown leaves and i accidentally pull the top half of the stem off. i noticed it had some small roots on some of the stem so i put it in water and it grew roots and shot out a few new baby plants. I managed the same with my ctenanthe burle-marxii amagris

      @@AlohaPlantLife RUclips is filled with "light and breezy" - these offer little that is new and useful after awhile- and it is wonderful to find someone who can offer reasons for why a plant does what it does, and solutions for problems (and why they work). Don't cave in to perceived pressure! You do a great job!
      Last week I was ready to throw out my white fusion and maranta that had both started 'dying' but because of you I am keeping them around, hoping they will come back and have only just thrown a fit because of watering inconsistency. I hate it when I fail and kill a plant, so you have offered me new hope! Even the cuttings I took of the maranta seemed to die but the roots are still alive, so wish me luck! No one else on youtube had mentioned that these plants can die back but also come back from the dead. Please keep us updated on that poor rattlesnake plant!

    Ive got two new maranta red striped prayer plant cuttings which i put in water. They both grew roots fast and one of them grew a bunch of tiny leaves mumbering around ten. I have planted them both now into the same pot as the mother and hoping they will make her fuller as she lost one side of her and was all growing from the one stem on the side of the pot. Im hoping they will take. I planted two days ago and so far so good. Love these vidios.x

    • @AlohaPlantLife
      @AlohaPlantLife  Год назад

      That was absolutely the way to go! Even though Maranta are rhizome based plants like Calathea, because Maranta are vining plants unlike Calathea, they’re so much easier to propagate via cuttings in water. I’ve filled all of mine in more the same way you are doing before and they’ve done great💚

    I'm with you! I REALLY wish this was something people talked about! I'd seen someone else root a warscewiczii before and I really wanted to try it with mine (it was pretty ravaged by spider mites so I wanted to save a piece )but they kept saying to just find a node and root it!?..well until today I couldn't figure out why hers had nodes and I just couldn't manage to find one😅 but looking back mine had never bloomed, so I wish I'd had a video like this back then! I was sooooo confused 🤦🏻‍♀️

      My warscewiczii got these little shoots without ever flowering, it developped those above ground anyway. I'm currently growing the two little plants I cut off the mother plant in water and threw away the main plant because it was really sparse due to root rot. I'm really glad, I could save those two little plants and they're growing so well in water 😊

    My Calathea looks similar, except it didn’t flower, it just sent up another large “stem” and started growing multiple smaller versions of the plant from it. So I’m going to chop and see if they’ll prop!

    • @Catplanty
      @Catplanty 3 месяца назад

      Did they? It sounds like my Calathea roseopicta silvia 👀 it is a stem with many small and packed flowers and there seem to be leaves at the top of it but I’m not sure whether they are gonna grow or if I can just chop it off and try it 😱

    Not just in water u can directly plant it in the soil itself, It'll gradually root i do the same as it grows i snip the plant below nod n just put it in soil directly

    One of mine was getting these long shoots and looked the same as yours. I loved your info and will be trying the water prop method. Several of the "droopers" were already getting root buds so I'm optimistic this will work well for me

    My calathea warscewiczii almost died a few weeks ago because it was dried out in the middle of the rootball and I didn't get that with my moisture meter. It has only very few leaves left but luckily it is slowly getting new growth now. Despite the big shock it got one of these stems and I just learned that it has FLOWERED (or tried to, the flower withered before it could make it out of the 2 baby leaves). I'm happy to learn that my plant actually got a baby that I can propagate once has some more leaves! Thanks for the good news! :D

    My Calathea Roseopicta Silvia is pushing out flowers every week rn… but the flowers are just tiny little flowers on a big shoot without any leaves so I guess it won’t work 🥲🥲
    Does anyone know what happens after the flowers are dead? It doesn’t look that good and the stem doesn’t seem to put out any leaves

    • @Xyanneny
      @Xyanneny 3 месяца назад +1

      I know that if your calathea started flowering it will stop shooting flowers out for a while. Coz the focus is on flowering. You could prevent this if you cut the flowers beforehand. BUT I heard that some calatheas keep trying to flower if u dont let them. So, maybe just stay patient :3
