I have no doubt now that Conan wanted Norm on the show in its final months (he already mentioned they were constantly trying to get him on the podcast), so it's undoubtedly painful being frustrated with the lack of response, only to find out why after it was too late. Conan speaks my mind beautifully with the tweet he sent in remembrance "I'll never laugh as hard again".

This has been one of the toughest weeks for me, I grew up watching The Simpsons, SNL, Late night with Conan, Dirty Work...all the movies/tv comedy/ late night episodes you Conan, Norm and Andy have given me since I was a child. It’s sad knowing Norm is gone but with these last few days of newly surfaced clips/podcast talking about his legacy...he’s not gone but will live forever throughout his Comedy. I love all three of you.
I absolutely love Conan.. and Andy ..... And it's wonderful to hear them speak of Norm with reverence. RIP Norm... Love his quirky comedy. "Chairman of the Bored"
I interviewed him once, it was two phone calls. I was already a huge fan, but that conversation changed my entire outlook on comedy, telling a story. Much like how conan, that era of the simpsons did. It's not "the joke", or "the story", it's how you tell it. And it's masterpiece when you see somebody create a moment that you feel is just for you. It's like falling in love, or making a friend. And now, there's only memories. To a personal hero, may you find peace telling jokes to the people in the sky.
Andy has hit the nail on the head. Norm was Canadian. But there’s an added element. Norm was a rural Canadian. And his parents were both teachers. So he was a country gentleman of sorts…who knew that teachers are full of and that a lot of intellectual pretense is puffed-up nonsense. So he emphasized old-timey values with a huge vocabulary and a farm hands’ sensibilities. Most people live in cities now. Norm was a country fella smarter than 90% of city people. That’s why he was unique. I love that cheeky bastard.
The interviews with Conan are priceless - especially with Norm and Bill Burr - and merit repeated viewings. As do the Jason Schlansky routines. Conan becomes an adaptable second member of a comedy duo, seemingly effortlessly. He and Letterman were the best at bringing out the best of the best from the best!
I have always liked Norm, but I never knew how much until his passing. He is like the Van Gogh of comedians to me. Only when he is gone does he become priceless. A celebrity passing has never made me sentimental until Norm’s.
What did Fallon do? Let me guess, he relayed a single happy memory (Norm story) and said Norm was a good guy; too afraid of offending anyone by telling any actual Norm jokes? At least some comedians are paying some REAL respect to Norm. He would have wanted us all to cry at his funeral (one of his jokes) but he certainly wouldn't have wanted anyone to NOT talk about his jokes. He would enjoy knowing that even now, he is making people uncomfortably squirm in their seats. Norm didn't get MORE controversial over the past decade... society got WAYYYYY too sensitive.
I liked how conan pointed out all the "bravery" these days that isn't brave at all. Im getting really tired of all that myself. Norm really was brave and never compromised and faced actual consequences.
Always been a huge fan!!!🙏🙏🙏RIP so sorry for your loss, Norm was the GOAT. I am heartbroken, didnt know the guy. 1990' s + comedians are my ❤❤❤❤. Love ya guys. Prays to his family and friends
I have listened to the episode multiple times already trying to make sense of it all. Norm's genius was paramount. Would love it if @teamcoco could upload the entire episode here.
Is it just me, or does it feel like we are morning Norm longer than the average celebrity loss? Maybe it's just us fans who feel this way. I was never a major, but I am now. And I have ALWAYS loved his style and fearlessness. But he seems to have really been an important person to a lot of the comedy world. More than I realized.
I can't stop watching Norm videos and Norm tribute videos. I liked Norm before but I didn't realize how much I was a fan until he died. He was so funny. So unique.
We will miss Norm with a little added pain because his comedy was fearless and the man himself, was intelligent and compassionate without ever having to wear it on his sleeve. We will miss him because he was brave and we rooted for him, though to be honest, he never received the full success he deserved.
Never grieved like this for a celebrity before never had the privilege to meet this legend but dam it feels like I've lost a family member r.i.p. norm you are so loved
I'm beyond happy to hear you guys talk about him and the whole situation regarding, well, basically everything from him mocking a murderer, paving the way and wondering why he was never on your podcast.
I love to see Conan talk about Norm. Conan talked the same way about him back before he was sick. It's not some fake eulogizing. Very few people were ballsy enough to let Norm run, Conan is the best among them. I'm sure Norm would have loved to be on the podcast if he had been able and Conan's would probably be one of the few he would have done.
One of my favorite Norm appearances was when he roasted you on one of your closing nights on The Tonight Show by bringing you a belated gift basket with a card congratulating you for getting the gig.
One of the things that made Norm MacDonald so legendary, was that he could tell a traditional joke where normally you'd have to think about the punchline, and he'd make that punchline more obvious, but twist it in such a way that the punchline you'd normally have to think about, would be more obvious.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. You can tell from watching Norm on Conan and when Conan talks about Norm. I truly believe that Norm was Conan's favourite comedian.
Thank you for immortalizing Norm for all the uploads team coco, it has been extremely appreciated and I'm so happy we can see so much of his legacy live on thanks to the Conan team !
I miss Norm. He was one of the best comics ever. You can tell Conan is devastated. He's been posting a bunch of Norm clips. At least we get to look back on those. RIP Norm! 🕊🥀❤
Part of the appeal of norm on talk shows was watching the hosts react to him. He always seemed incredibly content. I don’t know if he was or not though. I hope he was. He seemed like a person who could thrive under any circumstances. As a fan, I always felt like we needed him way more than he needed us- In the moment and throughout his career. Sometimes I got Norm right away, sometimes I’d sit on something he said- feeling way more that I just didn’t get it than it was a bad joke. But I sure appreciated him even when something went over my head. Just way too soon to lose him.
He clicked well with Conan and Letterman...in slightly different ways, buy both had great chemistry with Norm. I saw Norm on Jay Leno...it was horrible ...Leno sucked all the joy out of Norm. It was awkward. I think Norm knew it and was only on with Jay once, but can't swear to that.
I was looking this week at a clip from Howard’s show from 2016. I remember at the time I thought he looked ill but thought he was really drinking heavily. Now know he was ill I can see he was on some type of prednisone. His face was really swollen. ( I am an RN. ) I am so sorry he was sick but I am also sort of happy he just had not gotten back into an addiction. May his memory be eternal!
I noticed the prednisone moon face as well. It was even more noticeable when I saw the clips of him in his younger days. I had forgotten how sweet he looked with those dimples. 🥰
Norm never drank. Not since his 30's. People always thought he was drunk, and part of it was his mannerisms and delivery. Norm didn't do drugs either. He smoked cigarettes, that's it.
Actually I didn't know who Norm macdonald is until recently. (I don't live in the U.S.). It is so shame that I got to know him posthumously. Still I am so glad that I got to know the wonderful human being excited, and still I can find his traces on RUclips. It is really nice to hear wonderful stories on Norm from my favorite, Conan.
Norm was the only comic I ever made a point of seeing perform live. He was hilarious. He always reminded me of a live version of a ventriloquist dummy. I was hoping to meet him after the show but it didn't happen. Sent him a message and a few days later he took the time to respond cracked a few jokes and told me next time he was back in my area to not be all "star struck" if we got a chance to chat. I loved his I don't give a f...k jokes...it is part of what made him so great. One of canadas greatests
Damn Conan I love that you went to bat for Norm back in the day. I have always been a big fan of you and Norm MacDonald over the years. Usually I don't get too affected by celebrities' passing but somehow this is different. This one stings. RIP Norm.
Norm was an absolute legend, and I love hearing these stories from another legend, Conan. Just one minor thing, Conan can you tell the folks at home who O.J. Simpson is?
Conan and Andy my condolences for your friend. Im just a fan but Norm was always my favorite on SNL because he was fearless and his timing was always in his own time not anyone else's. Again Conan/Andy always loved your show and your best ones were always when Norm dropped by.
The very very best in their chosen fields have the unique ability to remove their ego from what they are doing and make it completely about the subject. Norm had this ability with comedy and I have lived a happier life for it.
Crazy to think how exhausted he must of been for 10 years and when he did show up he killed it like nothing was wrong. Sucks to lose him as a fan but I can't imagine losing him as a friend.
love you Conan. I would watch your show since I was eight. I was an orphan. love you man. I also miss Norm. I love your podcast 100% I love to see you back!
Conan I am a life-long fan, I'm 62 (sort of mature) and I know you have always supported Norm and you are a good friend! Thank you for having him on your show so many times.
My favorite part of Conan interviewing him was that he always knew when to stand aside and let Norm be Norm. That's why almost all of the best clips of him being on talk shows are with Conan. (Besides of course Letterman)
The skit where Norm is playing Bob Dole walking in the middle of the street pulling a toaster with everybody hurts in the background. Just comic magic.
Norm believed in the power of the obvious truth and he did his work on the edge of media throughout his career. And Norm gets his last word easily. Genius in life and death, imo
Sometimes you get fearless, and sometimes you get brilliant, seldom do you get both. Norm McDonald’s medical condition probably contributed to his monumental creativity, because he was free from the trappings of life than can enslave us. His thinking was pure, and he lived life to the fullest, I would imagine.
If you google don ohlmeyer in the first paragraph (basically the 2nd sentence), it says he is most known for firing Norm and being chastise for the rest of his tenure for it. They guy NBC for years and that's what he is remembered for! And rightly so!
My favorite OJ joke was still “isn’t it bad luck when the guy who would die for you….. KILLS you”
Killing your parents its illegal, killing your wife is legal
099⁹Minn 9
Hey hey! Easy with that. That's my lucky stabbin hat.
"It was in that moment that OJ realized he would never be able to kill her again," is my favorite. Norm was brilliant.
"It's official, murder is now legal in the state of California"
Norm played the room, he was a gambler at heart - a true poker player. A battle axe of a man.
Norm was the REAL hero!
@Bedlamite and I'd take it all back and more just to watch Norm perform once more.
battle ax is a term used to describe. dominant woman. usually older. forceful woman. And as far as i know Norm was no woman.

Anytime Norm came under fire he turned up the heat. And he's a legend for it.
Sad to see yourself grow old, and lose your idols.. People that were there for you in bad times eventhough they ddnt know it. RIP Norm 💔
Huge respect to Conan for not being a weasel like Jimmy Fallon.
More like Hater Ali amiright
Or Jay Leno, a guy who knows nothing of loyalty
Conan's one of the few good men in entertainment media.
@@AZTLANSOLDIER13 there are however alot of good clips of norm on jay leno
It’s worth listening to the whole podcast. An hour will feel like minutes for any norm fans
Conan fans too
Where is the whole podcast?
@@hv3115 Google: ''Conan O'Brien needs a friend''.
@@hv3115 I think I listened to it on the Apple podcast app
I liked how conan pointed out all the "bravery" these days that isn't brave at all. Im getting really tired of all that myself. Norm really was brave and never compromised and faced actual consequences.
Norm was a comedic genius and a national treasure and we all know it RIP
Norm wasn't as concerned as to what other people(his audience) thought was funny, as he was what he thought was funny. Modern day Mark Twain
Always been a huge fan!!!🙏🙏🙏RIP
so sorry for your loss, Norm was the GOAT.
I was shocked when I learned of his passing, such a young and funny soul, rest in peace
Guilt
@@RSZulu guilt for what?
I can't stop watching Norm videos and Norm tribute videos. I liked Norm before but I didn't realize how much I was a fan until he died. He was so funny. So unique.
I think we (the fans) didn’t realize just how legendary he was.
We will miss Norm with a little added pain because his comedy was fearless and the man himself, was intelligent and compassionate without ever having to wear it on his sleeve. We will miss him because he was brave and we rooted for him, though to be honest, he never received the full success he deserved.
I didn't know about Norm Macdonald until he passed. Knowing him through Team Coco's clips has been awesome.
Never grieved like this for a celebrity before never had the privilege to meet this legend but dam it feels like I've lost a family member r.i.p. norm you are so loved
I always liked how he always sounded as if he'd stopped on his way to the studio and had a couple of beers and half a jay. I could relate well.
The genius playing the fool. The man was a true jester.
I like the alternate joke on the glove & OJ interrupting & saying, "hey I've been looking everywhere for those."
Keep the Norm content coming, we love it. Thank you, Team Coco!
Thanks for helping us fans mourn for Norm by sharing your love and respect for him with us.
Norm would appreciate your statement (I'm paraphrasing): "Too bad he died of cancer...but thank God he was no drug addict!"
@@andychow5509 Just because Norm said those things doesn't make them true
@@andychow5509 Pretty sure he did some hallucinogenic drugs, because he talks about them, for example, on the whats so funny podcast.
Conan imitation of Norm is so on point that i can hear Norm.
Simpson is?
Also, lose the douche bag!! (The Swedish-German fella) … nah, he’s a good guy
@@ripdajacker23 Andy Richter is a hell of a guy. Andy used to be an incomplete Swedish-German, now he's Finnish!
O.J. Simpson? A bit of a jerk, if you ask me.
@@staceygram5555 yes, O.J. was a real jerk....just like Jefferey Dahmer.
Love you Norm♥️ Thanks for being a great friend to him Conan. Much love 🇨🇦
This is really great, reminds me of that tragedy...
You mean Norm McDonald's had a farm's de'ath's?
This really shows how much power one person can have over another’s livelihood and it’s sickening how some wield it
I got to know norm through conan and his show.... Love for Team CoCo and Hats-Down to the legend called Norm McDonald!!!!!
I hope you’ve had a chance to watch his Norm Macdonald Live show on RUclips. If not, you’re a real jerk!!
Conan and Andy my condolences for your friend. Im just a fan but Norm was always my favorite on SNL because he was fearless and his timing was always in his own time not anyone else's. Again Conan/Andy always loved your show and your best ones were always when Norm dropped by.
Andy hated Norm.
The very very best in their chosen fields have the unique ability to remove their ego from what they are doing and make it completely about the subject. Norm had this ability with comedy and I have lived a happier life for it.
Norm macdonald is my favorite comedian. I might legitimately try to go into comedy because of him honestly.
Good luck👍👍
Crazy to think how exhausted he must of been for 10 years and when he did show up he killed it like nothing was wrong. Sucks to lose him as a fan but I can't imagine losing him as a friend.
love you Conan. I would watch your show since I was eight. I was an orphan. love you man. I also miss Norm. I love your podcast 100% I love to see you back!
i remember conan, norm, and ramsay doing that cooking segment on the tonight show
I could never tell if Gordon Ramsay was hating it or accepting his fate. Either way an epic moment.
He was random, naturally funny, and honest, always himself
Thank you for putting these out on RUclips like this guys it's real special as a big fan to hear this
This was a great tribute and memory of Norm.
As soon as Conan says "alleged" (murderer), I immediately thought "alleged, but also real".
You earned a sub with this. Thank you guys. Thank you Conan and Andy. Thank you for helping to give us more Norm.
Big thanks for posting these "Norm" videos. I for one can't get enough.
Conan is giving such a great and respectful way for all of us to remember Norm... TBS was stupid to let him go...NBC was crazy to let him go...
Exactly! Conan intuitively knew his job with Norm was simply to react.
The skit where Norm is playing Bob Dole walking in the middle of the street pulling a toaster with everybody hurts in the background. Just comic magic.
The OJ jokes were an assault resulting in heavy, physical laughter!!!!
Hard not to shed a tear, knowing now that Norm was so sick. Everyone talking about him like he was some kind of nutty recluse.
Norm was an enigma, unique and there was nobody like him.
That stabbin cap joke really got me. 😂
If you google don ohlmeyer in the first paragraph (basically the 2nd sentence), it says he is most known for firing Norm and being chastise for the rest of his tenure for it. They guy NBC for years and that's what he is remembered for! And rightly so!
Conan would go to the ends of the earth for Norm and vice versa. Imagine the reverence and love they have had for each other.
You da man, Norm! RIP. One of the GOATs.
