I went to the Norm MacDonald and Jon Lovitz show at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi in the early 2000's I believe. It was a new year's eve show. We paid for the show, but most of the audience were comped gamblers. After the show Norm and Jon hung out on stage chatting and signing autographs. I will never forget talking to Norm afterwards, and I actually made him laugh (genuine laugh, I felt). This is my crowning life achievement. This has to be the show that Lovitz is referring to.

“I’m pretty sure, I’m not a doctor, but I’m pretty sure if you die, the cancer dies at the same time. that’s not a loss. That’s a draw.” -Norm MacDonald
He probably had cancer when he wrote that joke :( Also his dad dying of a heart attack and being in a better place bit :) Those are the first 2 bits I thought of when I heard he died.
Classic long drawn out story to get to the punchline. Lovitz just payed tribute to him there. Absolutely perfect story to zing in the little punchline. “He was banned for card counting”. Earlier he let us know he was an intelligent mathematician (foreshadow). Beautiful tribute.
A nice Norm moment in sport happened in the last NBA playoffs when the play-by-play guy mentioned that Nuggets guard, Jamal Murray, is from Kitchener, and then the color guy instinctively added "Kitchener Leslie", a re-occurring character from Norm's stories. So now Jamal Murray will always be associated with Norm. Stay healthy, Jamal : ).
@@willissudweeks1050 I do remember it happening, but I suppose it may not have been the color guy. And looking back at the roster, I'm thinking it had to have been Jason Benetti, who is a huge Norm fan, and it looks like the only NBA playoff game he called was the first game of the Trailbllazers Nuggets series. And quips like that may have led to his dismissal 😂
The sad but yet great thing about when comedians die, especially someone like Norm MacDonald, is we really get to appreciate and (re)experience just how funny they were and how important it is to laugh at life. RIP Norm
Jon Lovitz, Ladies and Gentlemen! Let's give him a big hand! That was great. As great as the story was, and we were all laughing just thinking about Norm in that situation, then the "football player turned murderer*" reference, and ends with a bang! I've been watching many of the comedians that knew Norm .And they have all said we didn't even know he was sick.. That's just so sad. But I guess that's the way Norm wanted it. I've thought to myself for years that Norm MacDonald looks very ill. I mean he has looked gray as death for awhile, and I've thought long ago it must be cancer. I still haven't heard what kind of cancer he had. But I'm guessing like colon cancer. Or stomach cancer. He was a smoker but for some reason I didn't think lung cancer. I guess we will find out pretty soon. Love you Norm. You have been one of the very best.

He skipped two grades and graduated high school at 16 and got a math degree at 18. He was always the smartest guy in the room, pretending to be a simpleton.

Funny stuff! I dealt blackjack for years. Card counters make it too easy to spot them. They bet small for 9 bets in a row, then suddenly bet big. Busted! That gets their attention right away. You do that a few times and win each time you bet big and you are lucky if they don't take you to security and beat the hell out of you. They don't like counters! And the thing is, counting doesn't give you the edge at all. It just lowers the house's edge. If you use the force instead of counting, you will win and not be caught. And as stupid as that sounds, it works. You just have to know how to get the feel of how the deck is working. I have hit a 14 when the dealer showed a 6. But I knew the dealer's down card was a 4 or 5, so I had to hit. And that was the force, not counting. And I ended up getting a 6, the dealer had the 5 under there for 11, and he ended up busting. Had I not taken the card, he would have won with my 6. Instead, he got a 2 then a 10. Busted. The table won. That was not counting, but being aware of the flow of the deck, tipping the dealer, and chatting with the dealer. If the dealer likes you, they won't go after you. They won't ever cheat. But they will shuffle up and change the flow of the deck if they want to or are told to.
I had an app, shows you two cards and you swipe, 2 new cards, you try to count as fast as you can, then push a button and tell you the count. I was getting pretty good. Sit down at the casino, people talking, the first second you break concentration it's over. Also, I had huge 18 count so I make big bet, I get dealt 15 and dealer gets 21 lol
I've been in a lot of those type of casino events for high tier players. Gambled for a living most of my life. Wish I was I was there to watch Norm stick it to those snobs. Much more appropriate. Although i did injure my hand a few times. That steel slot machine was unforgiving.
