The On Cloud 5 is the latest On Cloud shoe to debut for daily wear, travel, and leisurely wear. This model has a few key features that make it a great travel and daily wear shoe.
For starters, the CloudTec in this shoe provides a comfortable ride for walking, standing, and being on your feet all day and the quick-lacing system is a nice perk to make these easy to get on and off.
In this On Cloud 5 review, I'm going to cover a variety of topics to help you decide if this shoe is right for you.

2:22 On Cloud 5 Cons
3:27 Performance
5:39 Who are these best for?

11:50 Final Thoughts
Overall, I like the On Cloud 5 and think if you go into this shoe understanding what you're going to get, then you'll like this model.
This will not be your best shoe for tackling runs and workouts, however, they can work for a casual workout here and there if you absolutely need to use them.
The main drawback to this - which is the same drawback to most On shoes - is their long-term durability.

Great review Jake - your vid title says it all - great for travel and daily wear. I used to travel regionally for work, and it's great as a carry on due to it's light weight ( I would wear my business leathers on board and have this in my carry on) - and on the ground I use it for some light gym work, short runs and every other casual activity.
Thank you! Stoked you’ve enjoyed them 💪
I have been thinking about purchasing a pair, but have been on the fence. This was a very fair, honest and unbiased review. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing the feedback and checking it out!
Would you choose the cloud nova or cloud 5 for walking comfort, travel and support? No running. lol
This was a very helpful video/review of this particular product in making an informed decision; I bought the sneakers and thus far they are what you described, I have to add that these are the most comfortable sneakers I have owned, next to my FJs that I use for golf…bought at Dick’s Sporting Goods 139.99 + tax
Excellent review! Straight and to the point.
Thank you for checking it out!
Great review. I have the old Cloud (4?) and the X. You're spot on; the Cloud is incredibly comfortable for everyday wear, walking, and traveling, and fine for breaking into a short run; a superb convenience all-round shoe. But I use the X for exercise; gym work and running. I've done 20K runs in the X without problems, and even trail runs, only picking up stones a couple of times. Both are great shoes for their design purpose. Also worth mentioning ON customer support; it must be the best in the business. There was a (repairable) fault with my first pair of Clouds, and ON sent me a voucher for a new pair.
Thank you! That’s awesome - super pumped these models work well for you and I appreciate you sharing your experiences 💪
My brother just gave me those as a gift... I will used them just for walking only. Thank you for review!
Welcome! Thanks for checking it out 💪
Great comprehensive review! Thanks!
Thank you for checking it out!
really great review.
I was planning to buy these shoes. Thank you for this review. For the price point, I expected more.
Glad it helped! That's a typical take on On Shoes, lol
This guy put a lot of thought into this review video. Good to know that it breathes to where its not good for winter time.
Tis’ what I do, bro. 🫡
I got the all white one and my plan of use was to just use as a quick and easy daily driver and I’m glad I got them. Thanks Jake!
Noice, sick colorway!
Thank you! It nice to finally see a real user review of just shoes that are for walking! Have you tried any of under armour just for walking and everyday wear? Which other do you recommend for everyday walking use. I work at the hospital and on my feet 12 hours a day.
That’s the goal of the channel! Too many reviews just talking about specs and not actually using the products 🙄
In the context of UA, I have a bunch of reviews on their training shoes and a few on their running shoes.
I really like the Vans UltraRange EXO, it’s comfy and has good grip (have a review on them). Plus, much better priced than the Cloud 5!
@@thatfitfriend i actually remember the the vans review , i messaged you saying i did CrossFit with the ultra range rapid wield checkers for a while year and loved then. I seen most of your UA reviews, which is why i am purchased the bsr 2 and the tribase 4 . But i am wondering for more essential days off all your day standing and walking, hopefully you can get your hands on ua surge 3s or essential sportstyle UA
Let the record show. At 5:18 that is a GREEK YOGURT stain on my joggers! It is NOT what you think it is. 😂 Didn't catch the stain until I had already uploaded this, smh.
PS - Realized in post, I kept saying "quick lacing" and not "speed lacing". The term used by On for their lacing system in this model is "speed lacing".

Brilliant review!
Thank you!!
Hey Jake - thanks for the review! I'm using your reviews to compare OnCloud 5 and Allbirds Tree Dasher. I have a nasty case of plantar fasciitis and need a shoe primarily for commuting. (I don't need it for training. Also if either has better arch support that'd be awesome to know.) You said both were good for daily wear - which is your go to?
Hey! I think the Tree Dasher will be the better pick here. I think their midsole would work better for your context and ask here 💪
Great comparison. Torn between the cloud x and 5 but you explained the difference well.
Can I ask what black low cut socks are those? They look well suited to the shoe
Ahh, I actually am not the biggest fan of those socks.
Most of the time I wear Mottee&Zconia. They’re cost-efficient and from Amazon! They only last 4-8 months but I never have slip issues and they breathe really well!
Shout if you have any questions
i’m a transporter in a hospital and walk about 6 miles a day. how would these hold up? good buy or look for something else?
Great review. Did you find them to stretch out over time?
Thank you. Eh, to an extent. I often recommend folks go up a half-size these days if they feel that they're snug!
Thanks a lot for the video bro, regarding the sizes, How accurate is it compared to different brands and would you go for your bigger size or smaller, meaning, I wear 9.5 on Nike and 10 on underarmor, so what do you think I should go with on cloud 5?
More, how conformable is it when it comes to the height on the front for fingers
I'd go 10 in the Cloud 5 since these can run a bit narrower!
Thanks for checking it out and hit me if you have additinoal questions!
I've always been interested in this tech... maybe when my metcons wear out
Very different from Metcons for sure. I'm hit or miss for On shoes for training, tbh, but for daily wear - I really enjoy them!
Good work!
Thank you 🤝
I'm a uni student and have been walking in the ball park of 10,000-20,000 steps a day, brought the waterproof version of these bad boys, looking forwards to em.
Keep me posted on how you like them!
@@thatfitfriend I got em a couple days ago, they feel really nice to walk in, although, I notice the sole of the shoes squeak after a long day if constant walking.
@@opughdyang8264 that should go away, I feel, but keep me posted!
@@azialam IMO, if they feel uncomfortably tight now and you just plan to use them for casual wear, then I'd go up a half-size. I wouldn't bank on them stretching and as long as you're not experiencing heel slip with the 10.5 then me thinks you'll be more comfortable in them at the end of the day!
@@azialam welcome! If I’m online working I’ll always hit you back fast 🤝
Keep me posted on your sizing choice/what works best
Bonjour merci pour le message à propos de la taille , elle taille normal ou bien vaut mieux prendre une demi taille ?
Thanks for the great review. I have a pair of white Cloud 5s and I can say they are extremely comfy for everyday wear!
Thank you for checking out the review!
Great review, thank you! What if I like everything about this shoe but want something with a little more potential durability, but still in the ON line up? What would you recommend? Plan to use these shoes for travel where I'll be walking all day. Think Disneyland, theme parks, zoos or even 5 days seeing the sights in NYC/Manhattan.
Thanks for checking it out!
I’d go with the On Cloud X if you can find a pair. Cloud X 3 is okay, but it’s predecessor was stronger, imo. Keep me posted on what you go with 🤝
Hi I love your review ON Cloud 5 ,my question is to you is this a good shoe for standing up on your feet for about 4to5 hours a day walking Up and downstair I am 255 lb
Thank you! It could be it’s really tough to say since we all have diff comfort thresholds.
Imo, the Cloud X could be a good option to explore as well! That model is a bit more supportive than the 5.
Great video! Would you say they're okay for walking ±10 kilometers (±6.2 miles) or isn't it really suited for longer walks?
Thank you! They should be fine if you’re not trekking through crazy terrain/water/etc.
If you’re consistently hitting that distance on a daily basis, then I’d definitely recommend keeping an eye on the forefoot midsole!
@@thatfitfriend Okay! Thanks for your quick reply 🙌🏻
@@ThijsOost welcome! If you grab them, keep me posted 💪
Great review.I’ familiar with New Balance. I’m
Looking for stability , arch support . I want for life style only, no training. Should I look at cloud x ( per comment on stability) or a different model?
If you're looking at On Shoes, then yeah, I'd give the X/X 3 a try. You can try them on at most running stores/REI if you have any around you!
Are you only considering On Shoes?
Tried on Cloud 5 and it feels fabulous. Want to wear them for a month walking in Japan, so I love the quick lacing system. But reading the comments, I am concerned about durability - do you recommend any other great travel walking shoes with quick lacing and support?
They should be okay, tbh. But other options to explore include a good pair of Altras if you want more width or the on cloud x 3 that can be a tad more durable!
Hey Jake, looking into getting my first all-day use shoe and am looking into this pair. My question is: What color is that, the "midnight | white"? Thanks in advance!
Nice!
This is the “black/white” colorway 💪
@@thatfitfriend Thank you! Just ordered!

You sir, got yourself a subscriber
Ay! Thank you, stoked to have you 💪
6:15 I am working at a shoe store where we sell on cloud 5s nobody should buy them without trying them. Most people buy it a size bigher at our store.
I've had a pair of new balances that i wore every day for almost 3 years, and I'm still wearing them. I just got a pair of these, and im excited to test them, but I doubt they will last long.
Keep me posted. Keen for your update!
How have they lasted for you?
@thatfitfriend I honestly haven't worn them long enough to let my feet adjust or determine durability. They were too breathable to wear in the winter.
Hi and Merry Christmas! Just a quick one pal is there much difference to this Cloud 5 Model compared to the Cloud 5 Waterproof ones please??
Upper primarily! and you too!
i know you mentioned it not being the best for people with wide feet, but is it enough f an issue to look elsewhere? my feet are slightly wider than i guess what’s considered to be standard, but i do notice my ties can feel squished in some pairs of shoes. i generally wear a 10.5(us), and would just be using these for casual walking and daily use; would these be a good choice?
Eh, I would explore models that will fit your foot anatomy better especially if you plan to wear these all-day (comfort reasons). Their price is also high for having them potentially not fit your width!
Hey Jake, does it seem like the did better with the heel lock, I've tried On Clouds, but have not had luck due to heel slippage. I really like these, but fear I would have an issue again with my heel slipping.
IMO, yes. I haven't had heel slip issues in this pair and that's with the speed lacing as well. You could also use the traditional laces to prevent this if it did happen to occur for you! Any shot you can get into an REI or running store to try on? Would be curious to see if you still experience it based on your sizing!
@@thatfitfriend I may be able to slide into an REI this weekend. The closest one to me is 45 minutes away.
Hi Jake! Just the review and comparison I was looking for.
Say comfort-wise for someone who stands/walks all day with some stability issues, which of the two will you recommend? I've also seen others say that the cloud X is firmer than the cloud 5, does that mean it would be less comfortable too, if to be used all day?
Awesome, stoked it helped!
IMO, it's firmer than the On Cloud 5, relatively speaking, but likely would still be soft/comfortable enough for all-day wear. I rock mine for long travel days (where I only want one shoe for travel/training) for that reason and enjoy them!
Whoa, I appreciate you getting back with me so soon. And my concern is clearly answered. I’ll be ordering the cloud X in my true size now. You rock Jake, thank you for helping prevent buyer’s remorse to the thousands of us who watched your reviews!
By the way, am I right to assume that if you were to choose to keep just one shoe for all day wear and travel, you will choose the Cloud X versus the On cloud 5?
@@whit3bliss77 welcome! Yeah, I would still probably go with the X due to its range of versatility - if I could only choose one.
I do love the 5’s casual vibe and lacing system, but when the rubber hits the road it’s not going to be as useful in different contexts outside of daily wear!
I really like this shoe but I have to return it. I don't have a wide foot but my toe box area is wider and I find it too narrow in the two box compared to the Cloud X.
Yeah, these run pretty narrow. Sorry that you have to return them 😬
These shoes are amazing for travel!
Light and comfy - glad you've enjoyed them
I’m a size 5 and I just ordered on cloud 5. Looks like imma try sizing up to 5.5 as it currently fits but my feet feels tight
Worth trying if you don’t have heel slip, imo!
How is it for standing for long periods of time? I stand on concrete and hard surfaces for most of the work day, don’t plan on working out in them really. Thanks!
They’re okay! Comfy for sure, just wish the toe box was wider!
Cool skate shoes. 🤪
I actually bought these shoes based on what I learned from this review. They should arrive tomorrow so I don't have them yet, but I've already picked out a pile of dog shit to step in so hopefully it stays fresh until then. Thanks so much for the review.
I’m so confused by this comment.
The laces seem a little snug on my On Cloud 5. Will this loosen up a bit in time or are they just too narrow for me?
The half size up doesn't feel tight at the top but does feel a little too big.
Should loosen up after more use, but I also wouldn't be surprised if they were a smidge narrow. I think you'll be fine with them breaking in more as you wear them!
I wish I saw this video before ordering lol. I just bought these to wear to work because my feet and calf’s have been in so much pain from wearing my Nikes. I’m a waitress, do you think they will hold up for all the walking?
IMO, these will be solid for you especially if you’re just wearing them for walking/working! Definitely keep me posted though.
Okay ✅ I’m
How’d they hold up?
Hey Jake, I caddy for golf events, which ON shoe would you recommend - plantar fasciitis has been an issue for me in the past.
Good question - what are you currently wearing for shoes?
I want to say the On Cloud X because they're a bit more stable in nature. The 5 compresses pretty easily and I would guess you won't like how they'd start lacking support after a few months of trekking up and down hills depending on the courses you're caddying on!
@@thatfitfriend Thanks, I'll check those out!!
@@billbratt4048 Shout if you have additional questions, brother!
@@thatfitfriend Comparing with Skechers GO RUN Max Cushioning Premier, I'd take your feedback and then go try both out.
Honest question, would these be good for someone who is heavy-set weight wise, works for carmax and will just be on their feet for 8-9.5 hours a day multiple days a week with some decent amount of time walking ?
Edit - I would enjoy to get your perspective on the Cloud 5 Terry shoe as well.
Eh, I would prob pass on these and find something with a little more support, tbh!
I have a pair of ON clouds but then I found Sketchers makes a similar shoe called the Glide step for half the money.
Great review. Most negative reviews I see are people using it outside of its intended purpose.
Thank you! And Agreed, but I will say, the durability with high volume concrete use can be wicked variable.
Do you have any reccomendation for insole replacements?
SuperFeet are okay and also FP Footwear makes some really great insoles with solid shock absorption (that's the skater in me liking those!).
I am looking at this for a trip to Disney World and for walking around. I think these will be perfect because I am lazy to lace up shoes but need more support.
Did you get them for Disney? @thelauren1113
Hi, how is this for over pronation? I need to put inserts in for raising heel and arch support. Thanks 😊
Eh, not the best. Think you may want to look into other options that have more stability/upper volume
I wear 9 US on my ultraboost 22 should I buy the same size with On running cloud 5? Please help and thanks for the review
I'd go 9 if you have a bit of room in your UB. If it's a little snug, then go 9.5!
Would these be good for long walks (20,000+ steps/day) around cobblestone roads of Europe? What about for a person with lower back issues?
I'd pass on them for that. Tread isn't the best on that terrain and their durability will be so so at that volume. What do you currently wear?
I tried this on in the store and I liked the upper and the lockdown was fine, but the midsole shape felt wrong for my arch and seemed like it was kind of bumping against the distal part of my arch. Are there models with slightly different lasts that I can try? For walking, by the way.
You could look into the On Cloud X! That model has a different last construction than the 5 it feels.
If that doesn’t work, lmk and I can shout more options!
@@thatfitfriendhi, which sock is for x3
What’s the big difference between cloud 3 and cloud 5- do either have foot support?
Do you mean Cloud X 3?
Hi Jake,
IM thinking about bying those, but my main concern is quality of upper mash. I manage to break all kind of sneakera with my toe. Can you tell me more about upper mash durability on cloud 5?
I'd pass on this model, then. The material's a little thin and for the price, I'm not convinced these will last if that's typically an issue you run into.
@@thatfitfriend thnank you 🙂
@@TheVelvet011 Welcome, friend! Happy holidays
@@thatfitfriend thanks, you too .
Hey Jake, I am impressed with this model, but a bit cautious. I had two pairs of an earlier model a few years ago. I was impressed with the technology and wide range of colors, although 159.00 was a bit steep. My problem was that both pairs developed squeaks that drove me nuts! Anyway I like this new model with the speed lacing and that they seemed to have fixed sizing issues. I always loved your Barbend reviews and really value your expert opinions.
Yeah, I agree - this is definitely the best On Cloud shoe to date in this shoe line! I don't think the squeak will be an issue in this model and the sizing is much better.
Thank you - I appreciate that!
I have a really bad plantar fasciitis which one would be most suitable for walking all day cloud 5, cloud x running or tree dasher
What do you currently wear?
@@thatfitfriendI usually wear hokas
Can you use them/comfortable if you're on your feet for 12hrs?
Yeah, they’re not bad! That’s how a lot of folks where them. Look into the On Cloud X as well!
A limited usage shoe for $140 doesnt sound like a shoe I need.. thanks for the great info.
Thanks for checking out the review 🤝
I'm looking for a lightweight shoe to pack for a couple of weeks of cruising and theme park hopping while getting some gym workouts and tread runs in. This might be is. But the $$$ has me hesitating.
I'd go with the On Cloud X 3 if you're opting for an On shoe!
I have a horrible tendency to destroy my left shoe near the big toe due to a peculiar way I walk. Nail rubs against and destroys some thinner mesh shoes. Are these pretty durable? I do a heavy amount of walking
I'd pass on these! Durability will likely be a letdown for you based on the context you provided.
@@thatfitfriend can you recommend a specific model of theirs? I’m going to get their brand of shoes regardless but is there a specific model you think may be best in terms of durability? Thank you so much Jake!
@@andydrew3320 Go On Cloud X. Should give you more durability and you could also train in them + they're plenty comfy as well!
I do daily quick 10km walking daily would it be good or i stuck with my other shoe
Hit or miss. Their durability can be wicked variable and if it's outdoors blended with indoor walking then you should be fine in them.
I just need to know , if I take this to school daily and run a bit like for playing tag or something will the shoes be good for that ?
Eh, for tag - not the best. If you're cutting a ton and whatnot you'll likely tear up the CloudTec construction especially at the forefoot and this goes for most On shoes!
This is not good to hear I am supposed to get one tomorrow or today ?
!
And sorry for asking all these questions like for a little bit of running in school to get from place to place what do you think ?
@@yas8415 it’s no worries! Don’t get me wrong, they should work for you - so you’ll likely be fine in them, but long-term you may see them break down quicker than other shoes!

Do they have good grip? Like if i run in the rain would that be fine?
Nah, they lack a full rubber tread so their grip can be sub-par on damp surfaces

10
@@thatfitfriend Strange, yours is bigger yet the on cloud website lists the weight as 8.82 ounces. And that's based off a size 9 I believe. The reviews are all showing heavier weights too. I mean its good if its lighter, just strange.
@@norcalpacific Yeah, it could also be a slight scale error. I've also found that most models' weights can vary - even between left and right. I've had NOBULL shoes for example vary by like .4 oz between the left/right shoe. Odd to say the least!

They are not so great. I own 2 pairs of Cloud 5, and both make disturbing noise when the road is wet after rain. It is noisy and really disturbing me. Therefore I think will change it for HOKA.

@@Keithstrand2 fair my mumbling ass can be hard to understand at times. Also, I say that because I’ve gotten some comments being like “just say girlfriend hhnggggg stop being woke blah blah”…it’s like, bro. I say it because life partner stop getting ya Jimmies rustled, it ain’t that deep 😅

Not great, so I’d suggest not stepping on poop 😂
Girlfriend or partner? Are you a lawyer with a law partner?
Might be. Why does it matter to you?
@@thatfitfriend I watched your video and I did not know what you meant by the term girlfriend or partner. What do you mean by partner?
@@iakona23 ahhh, understood! I thought you were trolling me. In this context, I mean Girlfriend/life partner!
@@thatfitfriend Thank you for your kind replies. I like your channel. Earlier this week I bought the On Running Cloud Monster and I really like it so far. It’s very much like an improved Cloudstratus V2, lighter, better upper, better midsole.
@@iakona23 of course! Thank you as well for asking and clarifying. Interesting! I haven’t tried them yet, but now I’m intrigued 🤔
A piece of junk I bought this cloud 5 last week October 11,2023 return it right away not good for your feet 😢I don’t know why the reviews are high 😮😮😮this is paid advertising
Ps DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY BUYING THIS SHOES
You get burned by em?
You don’t have to say “girl friend or partner”. There is nothing wrong with saying your “girl friend”you are a straight man so say “girl friend “ most gay men say partner… what the hell is wrong with people trying to browbeat people into conformity or change. By the way nice shoes
Bruh, why do you care what I say, though, lol. I didn’t even think about it, just said what I always say. You’re thinking too deep and trying to relate my verbiage to something with society? Have always said that because “life partner”… no other reason 😂
Thanks for checking out the content, friend
@@thatfitfriend I meant no disrespect by my remarks. I was under the assumption you were trying to be politically correct and trying to not offend the “WOKE POLICE” by using the word “partner”. I was wrong. Your clarification made that clear. My apologies. There are so many people today who are twisting themselves into a pretzel in order not to offend. And I am sick of it. They end-up correcting themselves in mid-sentence, while at the same time apologizing profusely.
