- Hello RUclips visitor and fellow EV enthusiast. This video goes over DIY electric all-terrain board build that will not brake your piggy bank (or put you in debt). It does require a good bit of work and know how. If you are a type of frugal enthusiast like myself and like to problem solve build solutions on a fly, this video is for you. I've spent about $500 total in parts and materials. Parts list is coming soon. Comments/Questions are welcome. Hi Nico. Thanks. No drawings mate. I used a.motor bracket that I had to get my measurements from.. Motor pulleys you can find online (amazon, ebay, aliexpress). this board uses 5m pith tooth with 20 teeth. Width of pulley is 15mm. Pulley 5m20T 15mm.

How much is the cost of making one of these boards in materials, ect, I know a few people who just out right buy one of these if you is willing too ship after this virus is over, Including me if the price was affordable???
Cost of boards depends on what your desired specs are. This board costs about $500 to build. This is prob the most cost friendly all terrain board I've build. Yes, I can build a board for a skate bro.

Great build! How are the 3d printed gears holding up?
I use abs filament @100% fill. It's been working out great.
Are those holes in the cover enough to dissipate heat from the esc? It probably depends on the ESC, right?
Gorops, its been enough for me. You can always add more heat sink (aluminum).
where did you get your belts and gear for the motor? I don't see the links to those in the description. Could you also share the 3d model for your pulley system
Belts I got on amazon (i think its 5m 445-15 belt. D&D PowerDrive 445-5M-15 Timing Belt, Rubber www.amazon.com/dp/B00ISC5MAA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_GrDeFbMHAPTGV). Keep in mind that you may end up with a different size belt depending on what motor brackets you use.
Motor pulley for 120 kv motor: uxcell Aluminum 5M 20 Teeth 10mm Bore Timing Belt Idler Pulley Flange Synchronous Wheel for 15mm Belt 3D Printer CNC www.amazon.com/dp/B0747GB3F4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_UsDeFbGV64W5W) if you use a higher kv motor, you may need to use a smaller diameter motor pulley.
Lastly i found STL FILE for drive wheel pulley on grabcad.com. Search around for 200x50 wheel, or hub, or 72 tooth pulley for skateboard wheel. If you cant find it, dm me through FB messenger with your email. I can send you the stl file.

Hi Mr. Soko! ABS for filament. 10 to 15 miles range. Also depends on riders weight and terrain. Cheers!

great board! my board using same ESC but I place it above rear truck
do you know how to strengthen remote signal? if I place my remote like 50 cm above front truck, it wont reach the esc (receiver) if i use other hand to control the remote, my stupid hand is not so responsive and sometimes stupidly push the throttle accidentally lol
Did your ESC have a little antennae that it came with. I've used those ESC in many different builds, but never had this problem, with or without antennae. Take apart your remote and look inside. There is a little antennae there as well. Check on that antennae and make sure it's attached and secure.
@@artsiomnaidzich9515 nope, there is no antenna on my esc, I just open it and remove hot glue and I found ufl/ipex port, plug new antenna and now its like a RC car controlled from 20m, but I wonder why they glued it

Hy, how you conect Motor to Controller, i have also a Motor with Red, Black and blue cable, Controller blue, Green and yellow! How i Can conect it correkt?
Hi Pagtach. If you only have 3 wires, it does not matter how you connect them. Connect them any way you want. If the motor is spinning backwards, switch any two of the three wires. Hope that helps. Have a good Day!

If I use a vesc, would a 6354 motor be ok?
Yes. I've build another board just like this one using 6354s. 6354 offers a good trade off between weight and performance, especially with a solid VESC.

Runajoy looks like a generic meepo copycat. Meepo itself is a combo of generic parts that are all over ali express and ebay. My first couple builds (videos in my library) are using those parts. Videos im talking about are The Wasp, Ram Rod, Electric Skateboard for Christmas. Those generic parts are not bad for entree level esk8 project or riders.
Can only be budget if one has the awesome tools you have lol 😂

Good Morning Adam. I have updated the ESC link in the video description. It's a generic ESC. Same ESC and power output as Meepo Boards. I got 26MPH top speed.

I made this board for a friend of mine. He rides it a lot. No problems with motors yet. Are you having issues with your motors?
@@artsiomnaidzich9515 no bcs I haven't ordered them yet, but on groups on Facebook some people said that they had some problems with magnets coming loose

@@ja-ob9bp Ive had that happen to me. Not with this motors though. If you want to avoid that problem, get maytech motors. New Flip Sky are also good. Those two I have personally tried and know they can hang. Everything else is a coin toss. Companies just relabel generic motors and sell them as if they are much different than 80% of similar products out there. Rebranding to be more precise.
what material for the battery and esc enclosure?
I think its PVC. I am planing on using Kydex on mine. Wonder why he does not use Kydex there are a couple of videos of people using it looks like it would work. Will find out soon.
@@TheIgory1 Yes, It's PVC. Kydex is very similar to PVC material, I had a hard time finding kydex in the larger dimension sheet. Also PVC is much more cost effective. KYDEX is a brand name for PVC (polyvinyl chloride).

Where did you get the wheels and tires
Calvin Ronk Snee King, i used wheels and tires that this board came with. Pulleys are 3d printed (read the video description for the link to stl file)

445-M5 15mm width (D&D belts on amazon has just about any size belt u would need).
How many batteries do you recommend for this build?
There are many variables with what cells you may use. As personal preference I like using 3000mAh cells. For all-terrain boards with pneumatic wheel, I like using 10s5p (for generic ESC), or 12s5p for Vesc. My personal board I have a 12s6p (this allows me to max out on Vesc and Motor output and gives me longer range). I dont' mind my boards being heavier due to bigger battery in exchange for more power and distance.

Scavenged aluminum fin heat sinks from computers would allow you to avoid using holes.

How is it driving?
It's a smooth ride at medium and high speed. Slow speed maneuverability is ok. I've taking it for a two mile tall grass off-road run. That's where this ride shines. With it 120kv motors, it chews through grass and dirt no problem. It's a budget build, so I didnt want to change much on this set-up. Getting better quality trucks and better ESC would make this ride even better.

Wheel pulley us ABS plastic, motor pulley is aluminum.
Budget!! Right, first you'll need a budget board then a 3d printer, bench grinder, router table, mire saw, table saw, drill press, dremel tool with attachment, and a selection of other tools. Then you can get on with your budget build!
I cant tell if you are serious or just fucking around. First, you dont have to follow this recipe, just get a pre-assembled used board and call it a day. Option 2, get all used components, put them together, and boom, u got a super frugal ride. Above options are not good video material in my opinion. If you are willing to build something, you get some tools or have friends that have tools. The tools i used are not that rare or exotic. And same result could be accomplished with less or different tools.

Hey there Tony. Just about all of us have friends or family with some tools we can borrow or workshop you can use. If you have another method on how to build an esk8 on your own without tools, please let me know. Buying pre-made parts and just screwing them together is not building in my opinion (option that doesn't require tools), and is more expensive. There has been a handful of people that shared the same comment as yours on this video. I get that it takes tools. U cant have something out of nothing. If you have the drive and a will to build something, you can find the way to a 3d printer, a local workshop (many vocational schools can let u use theirs for a small fee), and people that can help you. You know who is not going to get anything done/built? People that say: "esk8 on the budget? Yeah, right. Tools you used are expensive".
@@artsiomnaidzich9515I plenty of tools, just not specialty fabrication (expensive) tools like you got. And btw you need a screwdriver to just screw parts together. That is a took a d you know that no matter what premade parts you buy I've never seen a plug and play way of doing it and it's just not that easy, I'm sure you know that. Anyways what I was getting at about your clickbait video is I was hoping it was going to clue us in on some technique or parts to obtain to build a esk8 at costs on the low low. As esk8 parts are pretty damn pricey. Btw not everybody not even half of everybody is fortunate enough to know somebody who will let them use and put wear on their expensive custom tools and fabrication equipment. I by in no way am dogging what you have done or the way you did it, I am dogging the chosen deceptive title to your vid. Peace out brother build on. Oh and I have built my own esk8 out of screw together parts a few custom parts and I have bought a nice one for retail. It was the best purchase I've made this year and I don't regret it for a minute. Hey brother nice custom build you should be proud. Later.
If there is one thing i dont do Tony, its click bait. Most tools i used are woodworking tools not designed to work with aluminum. I dont think you know/understand tools that i used. I dont know of a more economical way to make your own skateboard than what this video shows. But here comes Tony with criticism, yet nothing to add. Thanks for nothing bro.

@@raynman6466, you overestimate the price of tools i used. Same work can be done with hand tools but will take u much longer (also will require u to buy additional parts, like wheel pulleys)
If u have been doing diy esk8 hobby for some time, there are really two ways about it:
1. Expensive: most parts are preassembled, everything fits, there is relatively low amount of work that needs to be done.
2. Less expensive: where you build your own battery, enclosure, pulleys, sometimes decks, etc. its not a kit where most of the decisions on parts gathering has to be done by you, the builder. Its a balancing act of what u are able to create yourself, and what u need to buy. Also, people on esk8 forums will sell their used parts, but rarely for cheap.
Goal of this video was to show what can be done with mostly woodworking tools. But if all u see is table saw or miter saw and begrudgingly announce ur disappointment, than this video has failed to reach u.
If you know of other ways one can build a decent board on a cheap and without tools, do enlighten me.

Its your opinion and you are entitled to it.
There is a manual workaround with different tools to just about any process in this video. There is always a trade off, cheap comes at a cost of something/someone else doing the work part. When i say "build", i truly meant it.
What is it that you need. Maybe i have that in my workshop. Maybe i can send it to you. Thats one of the work-arounds. All it takes is just being polite. Do you need some part built, 3d printed? If i have it, ill send it. I keep a pretty extensive inventory of used parts that i will part with for free. Just ask.

Thanks. Sorry to hear about ur xp with gloves. I typically dont use gloves when I use my saws. Have you ever chopped aluminum with miter saw? Aluminum flakes are melting hot. Hence gloves here.
Because you've got to admit you have a pretty nice machine shop there set up for building skates, really instead of taking offense to what I'm saying you ought to be taking it as a compliment the problem is me before just envious of your tool selection and sure they could do that if they had that kind of equipment, the 99% of everybody wouldn't be able to build any board like the board in the intro of this video I mean come on man you're giving people unrealistic hopes that they can do this on a budget with no tools or even skills or time needed on using these tools I don't see it happening.. giving people false hope that they can have a at Eastgate for a few hundred dollars and it just ain't going to happen

Its ok to disagree on a point. (Point being that this video's title is click bait). In video description, i do mention that this type of project does require tools and knowledge. This board was build on a budget of about $500. I know that to some $500 is a lot, myself included. Similar boards over the counter sell at about double that amount. Sure, you can buy a used board in an unknown condition. Sure you can buy a board for 500 as well, but it will have smaller battery/motors (which is most of the cost of my project board here). Therefore I feel like this vide's title is appropriate.
