I keep a black cloth (bandana/shemagh) to cover my pack in case I'm leaving it in the floor of someone's truck or something, just to keep it out of sight. Plenty of other uses, too. Might even work with that lock to keep things secure. Any utility knife that takes standard blades, and you can have a blade simply with a stop at a gas station. Toss the blade before you get back to the airport.
So, I am not the only one that travels with a carabiner for dual purpose. I may have picked that up from Ron Hood 30 or so years back. The steel Search and Rescue carabiners are truly an amazing tool. Kevin is always enjoyable to listen to, he is on the same page as most of the better instructors.Remember, if someone is good enough to decode your keys from a RUclips video, they are certainly good enough to pick your locks.
I just retired Oct 2023 but traveled nationally (North America) for over 40 years. Most of what is presented here I have done or do now but I just learned about the Grayl water bottle and already ordered before finishing this video because, as stated, hotel water can be pretty nasty tasting. I also like the warm up pack and yes, I have 2 locking carabiners on my back pack as well. Very informative video so >>> THANKS !
Very well thought out video and I did pick up a couple ideas. The Tide packs are a great idea! I had been using a small refillable squeeze bottle with detergent but this is easier and far less likely to get messy!
I always carry an EDC similar to this everywhere I go. I learned some Ideas to save wait and gain more utility with this load out. Well Done! The Lock Leash is an amazing Idea! Thank you!
excellent! I keep all med gear in one large zip lock baggie including trauma shears. When TSA asks - trauma shears PART of my medical equipment! Great cutting tool!
Hey Kevin, You didn't ask, but here's a suggestion for a video to make. You mentioned at the end that you had a means to make fire, build a shelter, etc. How about a video showing how you'd do it with exactly the things you had here plus your normal EDC? Like a simulated SHTF situation. Thanks!
Love my Antero. Have carried daily for about five years now. Two recommendations. Level 3 panel in the back sleeve, and a small sheet of Tyvek or Silnylon tarp for additional shelter.
Thing on scissors, if you carry it on the plane it might be seized internationally. Checked is always fine but I’ve had medical shears and tiny scissors from multitools like leather man and victorinox seized. Sometimes they let you through, sometimes they don’t. Even with a full explanation.
Nice!! I definitely don't sort my electronics properly and i haven't been using color coded bags. I'll be so glad when the trickle down from Europe forcing everyone to use usb-C charging ports. I didn't see a solar charger for your battery bank so i might be one up on you with that. I definitely still use the BiC with inner tube just like you taught us previously. My med kit typically has Anti chafing ointment that doubles as chapstick and wound antiseptic (get salty britches) nose spray and Sudafed the real stuff (in mass Sudafed works as an upper)
I get it to carry a tarp. There are many useful ways to apply a tarp for survival. What I don't understand is why almost every video they never mention a LifeTent or Mylar sleeping bags? If taken care of, Mylar can be used for extended periods of time, and Mylar takes less space, lighter, and for heat retention or waterproof, they are a perfect example of survival essentials
Fun fact: "Aviator gloves" aka "Nomex Gloves" are also issued to 19K M1 Armor Crewmen (tankers) and M2 Bradley Crewman (cav scouts) as well as Paladin crew (artillery). It's not just aviators that are issued them. They wear out *fast* on armored vehicles though due to the non-slip surfaces embedded in the CARC paint which acts like sandpaper. That's why we were also issued standard black leather gloves. Shooty-shoot bad guys with 120mm tank rounds? NOMEX gloves. Doing literally anything else? Black leather gloves. I just keep a pair of GI-issued black leather gloves either on me in the field or in the vehicle as they work great for GP work gloves as well as fire handling.
Great job my friend. I even carry a big magnifying glass for fire. The lock and carabiner- brilliant, easy! Gives you the Ability to improvise. I will subscribe. I would add a few chemlights for a power outage situation, cheap to purchase and saves your batteries in flashlights if you are just hanging out in hotel room or camp
I keep the duct tape on old hotel card keys. When I'm not as limited for space I have a couple with wide Gorilla Tape, 1" gorilla tape, and electrical tape.
I also keep a roll of flagging tape, good for marking a trail if you have to move on foot and need to find a way back later or your electronics go down and your buddies need to track you
Exactly what Ive been looking for. I travel for a living so I always figured if my ultimate goal was to get home . To my home id need to carry more than just a bug out bag or edc tho. Maybe like an inch bag if vehicles aren't an option

Great tip on not showing your keys. A lot of people don't know how easy it is to cut a matching key from a picture/video.
Yes, many CAD/CNC programs that will copy by image that are not hard to use or get.
But a good picture and calipers will do the trick
