AK makes two Gauzy products - one for dipping canopies and one for airbrushing or brush painting protective clear coats. Orange and green labels. I use both and are very resistant after about an hour of drying time.
I've used both of these products with good results. Quick Shine for a glossy finish prior to decaling, Gauzy Agent on clear parts. The latter is rather expensive, hence limiting its use.
I’ve used Bona Hardwood High Gloss floor polish for several years and found it to be equal to if not better than pledge. I’ve never had an issue with getting it local in the US.
You should have mentioned Deluxe Materials "Looks Like Glass". This is similar to the AK product, in that you can dip the part in it, or you can brush it onto parts. It is clear though, not milky. I have used it on a Tamiya Ford MUTT kit to put a coating over the headlights which did not have a clear plastic cover. I just painted them silver then coated them to give them a glassy look. It also works well as a clear coat for chrome paints which may be affected by solvent based clears. It can be thinned with a small amount of water for airbrushing.
Hi Gordon! We've added a "Masking Canopies" video to the list for this season of SMBs. We work some weeks ahead in our videos, it'll be a bit before that will drop, but it's in the lineup.
I tried the Holloway Quick Shine as a gloss clear coat for applying decals and it ran and sagged no matter how careful I was with the airbrush (low air pressure, proper distance, proper passing speed over the model, etc.). I found it was simply too thin to work. It's nothing like Future/Pledge. I also found it dissolved some of my airbrushed acrylic paints (Tamiya, Testors Acryl II) even though the base coats had been dry for nearly a week.
We're sorry to hear about your challenges with Quick Shine. We haven't had any of those problems. It is definitely thinner than Future, and there was a learning curve when we first airbrushed it--thing coats are the key. But once we figured that out, we've had great luck with it.
What do use for paint Overspray after you have some that creep under your Canopy Mask??? If you try to use a Toothpick or something else, would it Damage it???
Oh . Thats good timing . Unfortunately i just got the canapy of my F-22 stolen by the man , shoot . He loves going around with his teeth showing all the time . Somethings just aint right . Great episode, thank you 😊

Some modelers used to use Future as a gloss coat instead of a paint. We wouldn't recommend using it as your final gloss coat, although we haven't had the experience that ibidesign has. For coating your clear parts, you shouldn't have any issues.
Yes in deed, the film is so much thinner and much more shinny...but best 48h drytime bevore covering and clean up the parts bevore you do this from release agent from the cast form
That's a good question, Robert. We used to hear conflicting stories about Future yellowing--some claimed it did and swore it off, others said it didn't. Frankly, we haven't been using Quick Shine long enough to know. AK Interactive Gauzy Agent has been around for 10 years and more, and we haven't heard about it yellowing over time from users.
I see the title, and the first thing that comes into my head is an android taking over my job..😄 Seriously, though, this is good and helpful. Thank you!
I don’t work with a lot of clear parts. What’s the purpose of doing this? Everyone raves about getting a big bottle of Future acrylic but I sort of found it sticky and a pain to airbrush. I guess this is the same stuff?
Even if she'd just let the water naturally sheet over the area rather than hanging onto the poor boy until he was dry. Turn him over and give him another dunk holding him by the palm? C'mon, Thetis! The Olympians were obviously NOT modelers.
I have a 40-foot shipping container of new old stock. I’m willing to share it with my fellow modelers in 2-ounce bottles for the low low price of….one million dollars.

Gauzy is my go to gloss. Been using it for years.
Thanks for sharing this. I didn't realize you could paint over Quick shine. Good to know!
A saving grace for this video. Can you use both to clear coat prior to decaling on kits?
I’ve used Bona Hardwood High Gloss floor polish for several years and found it to be equal to if not better than pledge. I’ve never had an issue with getting it local in the US.
It works great.
Covering with masking tape after a 24h dry is not a problem at all.
Using masking liquid actually leaves a light blurr
In Canada too for quite some time.
I e used quick shine as well. It actually works pretty good as well.
I have been wondering if there was a replacement for the future so this was great timing thank you
You're very welcome

We've never used "Looks Like Glass." We'll get some and use it and let you know what we think.
Great video again!
Any tips on masking the canopies?
I'm having trouble in doing so.

@@FineScaleModelermagazine awesome!! Thank you very much!
Quick shine comes in a bunch of varieties. Which do you recommend?
Yea I was wondering why I didn’t see anything on the shelf at bigmart
What's the right sequence? Dip-mask-paint?
The moment when you say “shit” is priceless
What happens if you mask over the coating?
In my experience, it’s gonna pull up with the tape.

So can you air brush quick shine like like we used to with future for decals? Can you paint over quick shine?
We have airbrushed Quick Shine, but it is thin, so you have to apply it in thin coats.

Future shock!🤔

Is this better than spraying a gloss clear coat from any number of hobby paint lines?

We hear androids dream of electric sheep. Glad the video helped!
🤖"thank you for your job. Beep boop beep."
Cool

"leave a piece of the sprue"
If only Thetis had been aware of this "tip".

I want to se you mask over Gauzy. No matter how much I detack the tape it lifts the Gauzy
We have a canopy masking video on the horizon. We'll add that to it, too.
Just a comment for the old algorithm
What, no bloopers? 😄
Not on the SMBs. We reserve those for the FSMWs.
...and bevor you do this clean the clear parts with soapwater 👍
The fools that went out and bought cases or pallets of pledge will see the product turn brown in the bottle over time!🙄

I have to admit, I found the title a bit...ominous... 🙂
We thought it very P.K. Dick.
Shout out for the PKD reference. @@FineScaleModelermagazine
