I started listening to DS a couple weeks back but I come from the proggy side of metal and I was introduced to the Psalms and Prelude DS. I thought that stuff was genius but man I was blown away when I listened to Disposal of the Dead//Dharmata. Absolutely genius stuff on that album and honestly, my favorite DS material. Awesome work, I missed the show last year but I will be seeing DS at Las Vegas Death Fest this year. Great work! My brother will for sure enjoy this video, he plays bass.
Awesome! I agree that Disposal/Dharmata is some of the best stuff that they've written and I've also come from a proggier side of metal so the Dharmata material REALLY speaks to me. It was an honor getting to play with them especially since they might never be playing Dharmata live ever again!
You honestly have probably the most unique style in metal bass. I would love to know more about it. Also more about the technique of the thumb/thump near the bridge
Thanks a lot man, I really appreciate that! I've been starting to get the gears turning about making some instructional videos on that subject so keep an eye out for them!
Absolutely killer Alex, seriously, great job! I have seen meticulously your approach to double thumb and riffs in older videos but i can't understand what are you doing from 0:59 to 1:20 BTW, sorry for my english.
It's not super low, usually somewhere around 7/64" on the B string to about 5/64" on the G string. I don't really like super low action because I like to have a little room to be able to dig into the strings
Gotta say at first i was kind of disappointed with defeated sanity because of this album but over time this has definitely grown on me. Glad they at least did two records to give the brutal death fans something to listen to and a long with trying something new. Only thing i don't like with dharmata is the vocalist. Just not into medium highs and highs all too much but it is definitely a master piece you just can't look at it in the same way as a brutal death album as it is something different.
Dude this is some of if not my favorite thing DS has ever written. It is coming from a different place in metal but if you really listen to the content of the rest of Lille's riffs you'll see that this stuff isn't really all THAT different. Less blasting and slamming but its all still coming from him and his influences and its some of the most captivating, well written and intense metal that I've heard in a looooooong time.
It is amazing stuff really. Like I said it threw me off at first because of what else they put out so I was expecting you know something like chapters of repugnance. I gave it a chance like I do any metal album and its grown on me definitely. Put together very well, extremely technical yet very musical at the same time. When I watch say this video I listen with a different ear than I would their other stuff or any other brutal death band really.
Yea i think there were a lot of people that were caught off guard by it... I had a bunch of people come up and ask why we didn't play any of the "brutal stuff." But thanks man! I'm glad that inspired you to keep playing, let me know if you have any questions!
I had to notate it in a bit of a different way since I'm not doing the exact same thing as classical fingering but this is what it means.... D = Down pluck, U = Up pluck, T = Thumb Pluck, I = Index, M = Middle, R = Ring .... Sort of the same thing but since I'm doing different things with my thumb I thought this would be the most sensible way to notate it.
Down and Up pluck is the double thumping technique that is like using your thumb as a pick and the Thumb pluck is just using the pad of your thumb to pluck the string. You don't go down and through the string like you would with the Down stroke

Ángel C thanks dude! It would a little tough to explain but I might be able to upload some tabs soon!
Great!
How low is your action? Also do you keep your neck straight or have a little curve in it. Not curving toward you but how most setup guitars.
It's not super low, usually somewhere around 7/64" on the B string to about 5/64" on the G string. I don't really like super low action because I like to have a little room to be able to dig into the strings
Thanks. Was kinda out of luck on measuring before but i just thought about the fact that i can use allen wrenches to measure.
I've got a ruler that measures in 1/64", 1/32", 1/16", 1/8" and so on. Definitely a good thing to have!
Definitely. For now ill use allen wrenches since the width of those use the same measurements.
How much for lessons
I usually charge $60 an hour-ish. Message me on Facebook and we'll talk!

Also, Your right hand technique has really inspired me to really keep it up with bass.

The guy on the second album is actually the guy from death DTA which is pretty interesting. He has some cool projects like exist
Alex, what about fingering starting at bar 57? What is I D U M? I know classical guitar fingering PIMA but that fingering i hear first time...
I had to notate it in a bit of a different way since I'm not doing the exact same thing as classical fingering but this is what it means.... D = Down pluck, U = Up pluck, T = Thumb Pluck, I = Index, M = Middle, R = Ring .... And what difference between down pluck and thumb pluck?? What about UP i think it is thumb up stroke like a double thumbing...

Thanx for explanation! It's very interesting hebrid-technic i've seen it first time at all!
Aundrou Calsbergg Thanks man!! I developed it from checking out Evan Brewer, Dominique Di Piazza, Matt Garrison, and Gary Willis
any brutal stuff on the setlist??
Not really, its all Dharmata and some of their other more proggy tunes
right on. well done tho - see u in chi-town!
