Great reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL.
"In a world where some things just all sound the same, this is so unique". You probably don't know how right you are. I'm a lifelong metalhead, old school (nice shirt, btw) and I only discovered BABYMETAL like five years ago. At that point, everything sounded the same to me and I ended up listening to the same stuff over and over again, loosing almost all my interest in music. But BABYMETAL was a breathe of fresh air and they led me to discover some other Japanese bands, but most important: I became a die-hard fan of something for the first time in my life.
Yes, you want and you need to watch a live performance because it's what they do. They put on one of the best live shows in the world (if not the best).
They started in 2010 being just 12 and 11 years old (they are in their mid twenties now). This song is from 2012 and it's one of their early hits.
Another thing you need to know is that they are very diverse musically since they like to mix any music genre with metal. So, always expect the unexpected. 😁
    Enjoy your BABYMETAL journey!
    🤘🦊

Maybe check out Catch Me if You Can, Gimme Chocolate, or Doki Doki Morning next. Btw, their videos are great, but you can never go wrong with a live performance. BabyMetal are as you say totally unique. It shouldn't work but it does and in a wonderful way. The videos are good but to see them in their natural environment then live is the way to go. The level of crowd interaction and stage presence even in their early days is spectacular.
For a live version of Headbanger go for Legend of 1997 Apocalypse (2013) (there's a 4k remaster without the sound drops) or for a different song Road Of Resistance Live in Japan (official) (2015).
For something more recent Monochrome live at The PIA Arena 2023.
To see the biggest contrast between the musical and vocal styles then Catch Me If You Can live compilation on the KuroKiitsuneSama channel which is possibly the heaviest musically from their early days and also features an intro with the Kami Band soloing. NB. this is a compilation but is one of the better versions.

the neck brace is a very specific reference. The drummer Japan's biggest metal band, X-Japan, headbanged so hard that he injured his neck and needed to perform in a brace for a while. In Japan it became a symbol for 'the most metal thing ever'. Sort of like Slash's top hat would be in the west. And yes, you should defiitely watch some live BABYMETAL, live performances are what they're really all about.

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's journey 🦊🤘🔥
Well, you definitely got a fair warning with that fire alarm, if you pay attention to sound effects they actually got a fire alarm right off the bat in the second part of the chorus and at the end of the song lol
Nice reaction, I'm glad you got this suggestion, pretty soon you'll get a lot of BM fans flooding in your comments to help you out with everything about them, but one of things you gotta know is that live performance is when they always really shine, you won't get the blaster sound of the live band in the studio album, not even the same musicians, some tracks are nice either way but the core way to experience BM songs is at live concerts, they bring the best live shows with top notch production, but sometimes you'll get better experience watching some of their official MV, not always of course, some of those are "Megitsune", "Iine!" and "Doki Doki Morning", maybe "Karate" too, plus you'll meet the original formation.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute) mixing Jpop (not Kpop) with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. The name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal".
    They are:
*SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 26, today is her birthday, Happy birthday SuMetal!🥳.
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 24.
-YuiMetal- scream and dance, former member since 2018.
*MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st last year.
    None of them are related.
After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said.
    About the song:
Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! is one of BabyMetal fans favorite and got special meaning too. Song is about a 15 years old girl celebrating her birthday going to her first live concert, probably metal, while having melancholy for leaving her childhood behind.
Isn't about any of our girls but they embraced this song like it was made for them, you'll find many special versions of this, even when they celebrate their 20th Birthday.
15 is an important coming of age for Japanese girls, 20 is another important date.
The official MV is creepy for some fans, I guess the organ church gave that effect. The "Hedoban god" is representing the metal spirit and the girls are praising so the metal spirit of the neckbrace posses their bodies, you know, is metal after all, just remember we are -NotACult-
The neckbrace here is a tribute to Yoshiki from X-Japan, he's songwriter, composer, pianist and drummer, he's a living legend and a true metal god among Japaneses, he hurts his neck while headbanging so hard during a live concert suffering serious injuries, he got a life of so much sadness and sacrifice but he's such a talented musician and artist, even Michael Jackson was a friend of him, so yeah he's big, that's why BabyMetal got a lot of tributes to him on early songs and live concerts.
At the end of this you can see an easter egg with the red moon teasing another song called "Akatsuki" (a SuMetal solo), is another song with tribute to X-Japan, live at Budokan 2014 is one of the safest clip to react.
Another song i like to recommend for first time watching an official MV is "Megitsune" because of the Japanese visual elements unlike some live versions which contains certain parts I don't like the spoilers, such the intro. But of course live is a blast like the rest of their songs.
Try "Catch Me If You Can" live at Budokan 2014 if you want another "creepy" and fun song (GuilhermeCait channel got a safe version to react) or "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" live at Sonisphere Festival 2014 (careful with the official live, put a watermarked logo, opacity or translucent effect)
And no, she's not the one doing those growling, she's shouting at the end thou. None of the Kami Band or anyone relevant is credited for the growling parts, except for certain songs like Distortion after 2019 and more recently the new official member doing some growlings when performing live in certain songs.
I'm gonna leave in my next comment where to get more original clips safe to react if YT allows me to do it.
    See you next time 🦊🤘🔥

Here's the list of live performance clips safe to reacts without any filters, usually, there are some exceptions:
      - Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! live at Legend 1997, SuMetal 16th Birthday in 2013, they got MV of this and is fun, but live is a blast.
"Gans Tomas" got this under Head Bangya title.
      - Akatsuki, live at Budokan 2014, this is a SuMetal solo. "BabyMetal Fans Ecuador" and "アカツキBabymetal" got the Black Night version (the safest one)
      - Megitsune, official MV is my first recommendation but is usually blocked if you don't put filters, so if you want live and safe to react, check it out Budokan 2014. "Kawaii Metal" got this.
      - Akatsuki Unfinished Version, SuMetal solo again but with only a piano behind special performance at Legend 1997. There's a widescreen with subtitles version at "Kitsune Sama".
      - Babymetal Death, live at Legend 1997, this is the big finale, you're gonna blow your mind with this one. You can find this with the introduction translated at "GuilhermeCait".
      - Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014, sometimes the official live MV isn't so friendly so you know what to do.
      - Karate live at Download Festival 2016, "kitsune6001" got this clip with a short interview intro.
      - Catch Me If You Can with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014. GuilhermeCait got it safe to react.
      - Doki Doki Morning, official MV, their very first song and MV full of kawaiiness, usually is safe to react so try it, if you want a live performance, this is the first proshot version with the Kami Band live at Legend 1999 (YuiMetal and MoaMetal 14th birthday). Another one in "Kawaii Metal".
      - Uki Uki Midnight, this one is a follow up to Doki Doki Morning but way different sound, this is the PV, is super fun but the sound isn't so great but at least is live. "Kitsune Sama" got this version.
If you want better sound with the Kami Band, then live at Budokan 2014 is the choice at "Kawaii Metal".
      - Onedari Daisakusen, live at Legend 1997, this is a Black Babymetal song, is a subgroup with only YuiMetal and MoaMetal. "Gans Tomas" got this.
      - Iine! again official MV hits way better but if you want live, then live at Budokan 2014 is the best choice at "BM REMASTERED".
      - Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai - Answer For Animation With You, live at Budokan 2014, not sure if it's still safe, so try some filters, if is audio blocked try to mute or just cut the parts. "BABYMETAL FANS ECUADOR" got this one.
      - Distortion, live at Download Festival 2018 or Rock Am Ring 2018, this is from Metal Galaxy 3rd album and is a safe jump to that BM era way different than the rest and without YuiMetal.
Ok that's it for now, just remember that I'm not saying those are the best version of their songs, all I'm saying those are the safest to react while conserving decent quality on video and sound. There's certainly better versions at BMRR (Reactor Resource) such those from 2015 and 2016, so remember to check it out that alternatively, although those will certainly need watermarked logo at least, so look for "Future Plans" short vid and follow instructions to get the full spreadsheet, trust me is easy and safe to get there.
Here's some "undercover" titles songs you can find at Babymetal Reactor Resource (BMRR), (look in the description for clean version):
      - "Angry Sis", original title is "Sis Anger" live at Tokyo Dome 2016.
      - "Y_A_V_A" original title is "YAVA!" live at Big Fox Festival 2017 with Kami Band intro (this one is tricky so take more precautions).
      - "Dis-tor-tion" original title: "Distortion" live at Legend Metal Galaxy 2020
      - "G J" original title is "GJ!" live at Wembley Arena 2016, another Black Babymetal song.
      - "TOTD" original title is "Tales Of The Destinies" live at Tokyo Dome 2016, leave this song along with "The One" after hearing a couple of more songs and traveling a little bit more of this journey, both songs are tied together so watch this one first.
      - "Hilarious Midnight", original title is "Uki Uki Midnight" live at New Year Fox Festival 2015.
      - "Line", original title is "Iine!" live at Saitama Super Arena 2015.
      - "MoaBanger" original title is "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" live at Legend M 2019 MoaMetal 20th Birthday, is an special version with MoaMetal singing the second part of the song, so watch the Legend 1997 first.
      - "CMIYC", original title is "Catch Me If You Can" live at MetRock 2015 with Kami Band intro, you already heard this song but this version hits way different, highly recommended if you like this song and wanna come back.
      - "FDTD", original title is "From Dusk Till Dawn" live at Budokan 2021, this song is from Metal Resistance 2nd album when YuiMetal was still in the group but there was no proshot version until last year.

Just wait until you see them live. Babymetal is at heart a performance act and their live shows are insane. They started when they were in the early teens. If you want to see them live check out their performance of Ijime Dame Zettai at Sonisphere in the UK. It was their 1st big gig outside Asia at a notoriously tough British metal festival. See how a 16 year old and 2 just turned 15 year olds became accepted in the Western metal world. Also Su-metal (main vocals) calls it their most important show ever. ruclips.net/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/видео.htmlsi=uYvfFWR7m1Bzc0WF

This song was originally released way back 2012 when the BM girls were just 13-15 years old. (The original members are now 25-27 this year). BM is also astoundingly better as a live act & 'Headbanger' has become quite special in their live repertoire for two reasons.
The first is the mid-song joyous revelry (eg. the 'Legend 1997' version) &, later on, the audience participation (eg. the Budokan 2021, Makuhari 2023 versions) which involve something rarely seen with the entire crowd at metal concerts.
The second reason is their birthday versions (i.e. the 'Legend 1997' version which commemorated Su's 16th; plus 'Legend Y 2014 Paris' & 'Legend M Cologne' fancams which commemorated Yui's & Moa's 15th), during which the 'ichigo no yoru o' (special night of my fifteenth) lyrics carried real-life meaning.
Their birthday live takes would become more spectacular when the BM girls turned 20, combining prolonged audience particpation with updated 'hatachi no yoru o' (special night of my twentieth) lyrics. See the 'Legend S Baptism XX 2017' version (watchable on other platforms, but remains suppressed on RUclips due to the controversy over Yui's sudden departure), the 'Moabanger 2019' version (which went viral & remains the most famous take) & recently the 'Momobanger 2024' version, all of which commemorated respectively Su's, Moa's & new member Momo's 20th birthdays.
React to Moabanger 2019 if you want to do just one.

Hell yeah man, welcome to Babymetal!
It’s like you’re trying to summon a demon but used sugar instead of salt, and got Babymetal 😂.
These gals are now 14-year veterans of the music industry starting out in 2010 at age 12/11.
This song is about a girl’s first rock show on the night of her 15th birthday. Realizing the euphoria of this experience and her childhood will soon end, she etches this memory in heart forever.
Also, Babymetal is 100% a live performance band. While the MVs are good, you need to experience them in their natural habitat: a live stage.
    Suggestions:
*Road of Resistance (Official Live):* Something grand and epic.
*Catch Me if You Can (Budokan 2014):* Ultimate “WTF” factor as Babymetal smashes the most brutal music with the most adorable cuteness.
*Monochrome (Pia Arena MM 2023):* A decade+ later, now in their mid-20s, these monster ladies are still putting out bangers.
*Metalli (Official Live):* A newer song about a fun metal festival. Features Tom Morello of RATM and Audioslave.
Look forward to more Babymetal!! 🤘🦊

Great first reaction, welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊Unique and different ... perfect description.🤘There is no other band like BABYMETAL, they even pioneered their own genre blending Metal with JPop hooks and melodies (and they blend so many more styles and genres with the metal now).
As far as understanding what they are saying, no you don't need to (they will get the meaning or emotion of a song across to you regardless) - as lead singer Su-metal once said "Don't think. Feel."
'Headbanger' is about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday, but it is more than that. In Japan compulsory education ends at 15 so the girl is realising she has to grow up now, life will never be the same and her first 15 years passed by so quickly. She is etching this special night into her heart so she will never forget.
Su-metal was only 14 when they recorded this song (the other two girls Yuimetal and Moametal were still only 12) so it is not biographical, but they could relate ... the main difference was they were not going to their first concert, they had already been performing at their own concerts.
They formed in 2010 aged 12 and 11. In 2013 they separated from their parent group to become an independent band in their own right. In 2014 they released their first album and started touring the world.
We have watched them grow up to become one of the very best live bands on the planet and you will find that The One (their fans) are like the proudest big brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, parents or grandparents at what they have achieved since they started with no budget, wearing borrowed clothes, singing and dancing to pre-recorded instrumentals in shopping malls, a stage by the food court at a festival, tiny venues with 150 capacity.
Now they are Japan's biggest and most successful musical export, they sell out arenas in Japan (including Tokyo Dome with 55,000 people two nights running) and all the more modest venues they play as they tour the world supported by world class musicians in the form of the Kami Band.
Good idea with a live version of 'Headbanger'. Look on the abr metal channel for 'Headbanger' live at Legend 1997. That is from December 2013 the day after Su-metal's 16th birthday (she was born in 1997).
Follow that up with 'Megitsune' live at PIA Arena from 2023 - another early song, but you will see what they have become.

Great reaction - but....they are a live band, and you need to look at some of their live stuff (but not "official" videos usually - it tends to be studio)), which often have intros, subtitles great crowd interaction and a lot you won't see through "official" videos. Very young here but they've been going for 14 years and are utterly unique. Headbanger legend 97 hit' WAY harder than this and seems like barely controlled berserk insanity - it's wonderful.

PS I noticed the shirt and thought of this interview question from 2016:
So you have toured and met a million cool people over the last few years: Lady Gaga, Metallica… who do you really want to meet next?
    [Girls, together] Iron Maiden!
It's because they are the biggest band in metal they have NOT met yet. That youthful enthusiasms also shows something we don't see a lot in metal in the same form.

Fun first reaction! Our fanbase is going to attack you with insane walls of text haha but I just wanted to tell you an anecdote about my experience. I'm 47, Dream Theater is my band, I was never into the crazy aggressive screaming lyrics metal music .. well Babymetal invented kawaii (cute) metal to make it more fun!
I discovered them late 2022. And last year my wife and I had the luck of seeing them back to back in Houston and Dallas! And my god, they were probably the best shows I've ever seen!
So, the dancing is a very big element in their music, which is built to shine for live performances.
They are older now, mid 20s, and the amount of relentless infectious energy and stage presence they have is unlike anyone I've ever seen live!
Their messaging ranges from silly and fun to very serious.
No two songs sound remotely alike.
They blend a LOT of genres with metal.
Every single song has intense choreo that's usually acting out the story of the song.
The whole experience is built around crowd participation as you'll see when you react to live songs, which is really special and cool! I hope you enjoy!
I shall humbly request Road of Resistance live at PIA Arena in 2023 for you to experience the full power!
This is a good version where a fan added engliah subtitles (none of their official videos have subtitles)
The song being very inspirational about paving your own way and fighting through failures. It'll blow your mind! These young ladies are so charming and adorable, yet powerful and ferocious. Enjoy!

@BuckeyeCreeker1 of course! Yeah it was extremely confusing to my eyes and ears at first too (probably most folks) but I swear Babymetal creates new synapses in the brain! The dichotomy of sound they were founded on (dark heavy metal with high pitched cutsey j pop vocals) is much closer together now, partially them growing out of their child voices and also the newer music (and dancing) accounting for them being adults ... but when I go back and listen to their wildest stuff when they were that young doesn't sound strange to me any more .. it sounds normal lol!
Guy who came up with the idea is a genius. Their own passion and heart and energy they put into it is what makes it special, I believe! Probably thousands of hours of practice and dedication .. it's inspiring!

The “I was not expecting this” and “WTF did I just watch” are the typical reactions among first-time BABYMETAL viewers. A lot of their songs tend to get that - even after watching a number of them! Anyway . . . .
You’ve opened a can of worms!
BABYMETAL has an extensive history (and lore) which I won’t get into but a quick synopsis: they’ve been around since 2010, and started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (officially "scream and dance" (backing vocals)) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the group in 2018 because of health concerns, and early in 2023 Momoko Okazaki (Momometal) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer.
BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums, and have been on a number of world tours. It is common knowledge among their devoted fans (known as "The One") that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they do have several music videos that are real works of art (unfortunately this one is not among them). I suggest you go back to the beginning, and react to their first two music videos, "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay"), both released in 2012. You’ll notice those are the first two on this list of these recommended songs (along with suggested versions). The first sixteen are from what I've come to call "The Golden Age of BABYMETAL" or simply "The Yui Era":

You can use my RUclips playlist “BABYMETAL Top Twenty” (ruclips.net/p/PLdhz2aj0pt4zPl0BZLevPUR9uHKQA27uj ) as a quick link to all of these videos; it is a mix of MV’s and live performances, is more or less in historical sequence, and could be considered a road map down the BABYMETAL foxhole. If nothing else, it can be used as a reference to find high quality versions of BABYMETAL songs without mucking about - if they are on the list. Anyway . . . .
Another recommendation (read "challenge"): react to an entire BABYMETAL concert. I suggest "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" and/or "Budokan Black Night" (2014). There are playlists for both on the HEAD123456 RUclips channel. Both concerts are, in a word, incredible.
Enjoy your trip down the foxhole! (You're in for a wild ride!!!)
