Spotify is setting itself up for all kinds of legal action. Obvioulsy Spotify needs to spend some time finding a way to KNOW and PROVE that bots are coming FROM AN ARTIST. The word BOT is not synonymous with ARTIST. And if the artist hasn't used bots or in many cases not paid for any promotion at all...then the artist should not be penalized. It's not my job to protect their system. I didn't build Spotify. If you guys are getting botted...think, work, tweak, adjust, design a system that avoids this problem. But don't blame the innocent. Even a 3 year old know what fairness is.

Agreed wholeheartedly. It's so difficult to get a hold of a real person at Spotify- and even harder to find someone that seems to care about this problem.

its because its pro rata if they rid independent artists less money to label artists

Of course, it’s major labels are doing this for indie artist. They built the bot system for their own interests. It is a real inside news.

    class action lawsuit

Obviously I'm not a lawyer so I have no idea how that would work, but based on the number of artists impacted, it definitely seems feasible

I am affected myself. Four of my EPs were banned from Spotify and then deleted from all plattforms by my distributor without notification. I used a promotion service that claimed to be 100% legal, but Spotify apparently saw it differently. We independant artists get punished for what others do with our creations. This is insane!

That sucks - really sorry you got hit.

Sorry to hear that but when you uploading at distrokid they warn you that you shouldn't use any promotion service also if its claimed 100% non-botted. I am sure that your Service wasn't 100% legal and you got banned because of using such service. Sorry to hear. Most promoters are scammers. I almost get daily messages of indian or asian people to grow my career.. same business.

@@AndixOfficial it could be that the service they used was sketchy, but the really frustrating thing is that that might not be it at all. I've seen dozens of artists who've gotten hit with bot streams without ever paying for any sort of promo. That's why I made this video ha.
(Also, fwiw, DistroKid's policy there is so dumb and hypocritical. They literally offer promotion themselves - that's what their "Wheel of Playlist" is. distrokid.com/wheel/)

They remove our album too!! Spotify detected 1300 artificial streams on ONE of our songs.
We never bought artificial streams in our whole life... We are speechless.

It happend to me a few weeks ago, i contacted spotify but they told me nothing was wrong, It obviously was! Luckily the fake streams stopped coming after two days and it was only 150, it seems like the bot site does it like you said to get new costumers, what i find disturbing is that it would be really easy for spotify to have a system in place to if the artist realize they get fake streams and report it, they could just remove them. Even tho i dont rely on music income in any way it would feel very devastating to get banned since it is my only hobby and the one thing that i love doing(I think many feel the same) thats why this is such an important issue.

Really sorry it happened to you. And yeah, agree - they need some sort of actual review process in place.

I never paid a single person but a hater must have put bots on my account and banned it

They added my song their fake list. I don't even see the name of list. Fake bots coming on my song more than real listeners..............................

I sent my story to Ari because my account was suspended despite growing a playlist legitimately and never charging anyone for placement.

Sorry you got hit, and glad you sent the story over. Hopefully if enough people make enough noise, something changes.

What the distriputors/DSPs are doing is clealy illeagal. Let's imagine a burger joint. The owner tells an employe that "You haven't flipped enough burgers this week, so I'm gonna withold your sallery and give it to your coleagues". How do you think that would fly.
This should only end one way. Law suites. lwa suites and law suites. However, the distributors/DSPs knows that the vast majority of indie artists lacks the financial means to go this route. There is a solution though. Class action law suites, class action law suites and class action law suites. These may not give the individual artsts much money, but they will incur substatial costs for the distributors/DSPs. Hopefully, they will realise that abiding by the law is more beneficial, in the long run.
Leagal consequenses is the ONLY way to affect change. Appealing to their sense of decency is futile, because they have none!

I heard labels use bots and spotify allows them to. But if indie artists do, spotify will banned them.

Eh, that's a bit of a conspiracy theory. I honestly think it's probably overblown. But also... you never know.

The easy thing for Spotify is to change free accounts to $1 accounts that are the same as the free accounts.

Interesting idea - hadn't heard that before, but it probs would solve the problem.

Spotify won’t do that. and that won’t solve anything cause u can pay for premium account bots. Spotify need to just start removing streams that are bot it’s that simple
