I've been physically making most of the subs changes (since I've setup a local git repo for keeping track of all of the changes), though we discuss all of the changes before actually changing things (and garden takes a look at them before sending them off to you). I'll probably put a summary of the sub changes in the comments after each episode with custom subs (probably like 70% of the changes are just consistency changes).
The subs changes for episode 2 were just some consistency things. "Li'l Bea" -> "Beako" and then "The Lost Woods of Clemaldy" -> "The Lost Forest of Clemaldy" (this was the new change) because it's referred to as a forest everywhere else.
For episode 3, which is the one that took had a lot of debate. We flipped the sentence structure for the descriptions of the witches so that it matched the spoken word (motivation, action, title, name) instead of title, name, action, motivation. As well as retiming things and adding a pop-in effect for the names. As it turns out, it's pretty awkward to concisely phrase it with the title and name at the end in English (probably why they flipped it in the first place), so there was a lot of debate about the grammar and also making sure that it wasn't subtly conveying something slightly different, as well as making sure that the characters per second didn't get too high. Also we were never online at the same time, so we'd all wake up to a pretty different version of the scene than when we went to bed.
Oh and we also added the note about "trial" and "ordeal" using the same Japanese word (but that was changed a while back and also had quite a bit of debate around it).

thanks, I was wondering about the changes there, and have to say I'm not a fan of the changed custom subs here. In general they just feel a bit more awkward than the original in english, despite in most cases it conveying the same info and tone, but Minerva's strikes me as particularly confusing in the changed version.
@@flyingeagle3898 I agree that they're a bit more awkward in this format. But I would disagree that the tone is the same. Outside of matching the spoken word (something that is pretty unique to subbing compared to text translation), deferring the title and name to the end does markedly affect the tone. Notably it makes it more overwhelming (which is also the case in the spoken Japanese), since you aren't given the context of the description until the end of the sentence, meaning that you have to go back and recontextualize the previous part of the sentence. Normally this is poor English, since it takes way more mental effort to parse such sentences, but Echidna doesn't really seem to be trying to communicate efficiently, and is more trying to shock and awe Subaru into having a conversation with her. In our opinion, enhancing the mystery and overwhelmingness of the conversation was deemed more important than using the proper English grammar, so we changed the lines.
Anyways, I hope that makes it clearer as to why we decided to change these particular lines. And if you have any lines that you think should or shouldn't be changed, you can ping me (same username) in the rezero spoiler chat in discord and we can have a multi day debate about it (probably not actually a multi day affair though, they're usually quite quick, if we're all online at the same time).
You may have missed it: Echidna does tell Subaru she's giving him the right to face the trial of the sanctuary. He does forget she told him that though.
We have a glimpse for Frederica in Ep.11 in Rem's flashback, but usually not many people remember that.😂
What's crazy is that Bakugo's (and therefore Garfiel's) VA also voices Himmel in Frieren. Man, I wish he gets more tender voiced roles, cause goddamn he's great for so much more than just loud edgy boys
Niizuma Eiji from Bakuman is my favorite role of his (very wacky character, screams a lot but not in the same way as Garfiel/Bakugo). His character in Tower of God is pretty calm but not in the same way as Himmel.
I just finished Haikyuu and he all I can think of is "Shooooyooo" and "Rolling.....Thundeeeer!"
Just a little bit of into pertaining to this chapter of the light novel:
In the light novel, Subaru refuses to ask more questions of Echidna as a reflex to the way her presence repulses people. Plus, he just felt as if she were trying to manipulate him, so he felt wary of anything she said. If I remember correctly though, he did ask a few basic questions out of curiosity before he left.
I love how you can tell the parental relationship of Subaru's dad just by how he says, "Good morning."

For the villagers and Emilia interaction, keep in mind that this is probably the first time the villagers have gotten a good look at Emilia, since the previous times when she's visited the village, she's worn her cloak of non recognition.
Also I think that it might be possible to prove Rem's existence (or at least some of her attributes), even without Subaru's knowledge, by proving a paradox with everyone's memories (assuming that everyone is confident in their memories). Consider the following 4 true (as far as everyone knows) statements.
1. There has not been an issue with the mansion's upkeep in the past.
2. Ram has been the only maid at the mansion for some time.
3. Ram is incompetent at maintaining the mansion.
4. The workload to maintain the mansion has not changed in some time.
These can't all be true at the same time, as any 3 truths would imply that the 4th statement is false. And yet individually, all 4 statements are seemingly true. Therefore, we should be able to conclude that at least 1 of the statements is actually false or that there is another statement that is entirely missing. Without Subaru's knowledge, I think it's a bit of a stretch to imply Rem's existence straight up, but with more scenarios like this, you should be able to surmise some of Rem's more notable attributes (like that she is remarkably skilled at maintaining the mansion).
I think there are other proofs that can be derived as well, but this is I think a decently simple one.
You can see a similar effect during the White Whale battle (presuming that it's the same effect) when the squad leaders report their losses. Where the leaders know that they set out with a full squad of N people, and while they can't remember who was lost, they know that they've lost people, since they obviously have less then a full squad of N people and they wouldn't of set out with less then a full squad.
And of course it's a fantasy story, so their universe may not be logically consistent and it's entirely possible for it to work however Tappei wants it to work.
It reminds me of how black holes were proven to exist, despite not being able to directly perceive them at all.
Emilia says "Families should be together." Subaru gets transported back to his family. Vin Diesel would be proud.
The next episode of Re: Zero is my favorite episode out of all the episodes animated as of now. I hope you'll enjoy it.
And btw Subaru got the right to take on the Trial of the Sanctuary as a souvenir from Echidna. Which means ghost as she might seem, her powers still have lingering effects on the real world.
This season exemplifies what I've always been saying about Re: Zero, which is that there are always bigger, much bigger powers at play in this world and Subaru would be just another cog in the wheel who would have fulfilled his purpose or lack thereof (cute how he built one for himself aka save Emilia) and died way back in that building where Elsa first attacked him had he not received Return by Death. Even in his own world for example, we hear namedrops and hints that he has already discussed (Petra's recruitment for example) but the audience doesn't know aka the story is NOT really told from a first-person perspective, which is true to the narrative style of the novels.
It's hard not being able to ignore all the obvious breadcrumbs thrown around in the plot so far and resisting the urge to omg and point them out one by one, like the camera direction when Roswaal is speaking. You could easily do a Re: Re: Zero series after this and enjoy it equally or more.
Many people criticize subaru for not asking more questions to echidna but you have to keep in mind that subaru met her right after something weird happened and he was seperated from emilia, so as much as he want to ask her quesstions, he's worried that something might be happening to emilia right now, while he might be able to go back to the tomb later so emilia takes precedence. All of this is also happening right after subaru was too late in saving rem because he wasn't there when she was attacked.
Also, i'm pretty sure he did ask her some questions in the novel but she couldn't answer so he just gave up and went away.
yeah he was way more wary of her in the novels, he also asked questions about the witch cult and archbishops but echidna stated that she knows nothing about them considering she died 400 years ago
if you want a little more context of some scenes I recommend watching the animated shorts called Re:Zero Kara Hajimeru Breaktime S2 has curiosities and some scenes that were not adapted to the main story.
Subaru can take part in the trial, because Echidna gave him explicit permission to do so. She says it right before she sends him back to the ruins.

If the reset would’ve moved past a point of helping her again that would’ve sucked

I love season 2 of Re:zero and actually had not heard that there was a decent amount of people who had issues with it. Now I would be the first to say that I wish the animation and production side could have been better (the amount of high quality anime coming out these days hurt it in this regard), and it is a shame that it will likely forever be left how it is now. Nonetheless, I think that it is good enough to still support the amazing story and I believe that season 2 is better then the first in pretty much every other regard
Honestly until the last couple episodes of season 1 on this channel I had no idea there was a part of the fandom that did not like season 2. It blew me away hearing Tee say that, I had no idea.
I watched a few other reaction channels react to season 2, as well as reading comments on those videos and I never saw anything like that, so it came out of nowhere to me that so many people didn't like this season. Especially because I liked it better than season 1.
Now you know why subaru was so strong with his grip strength and stuff. Dad is swole
Garfiel and Frederica are mentioned by name a couple times in the novels that season 1 was adapting. IIRC all of these moments are cut in the anime, but Subaru would still "remember" them.

“Huh, interesting timing to quit. This Frederica…is a woman?”
“Her dimensions should be right about the same as yours.”

“A demon beast with its horn severed will obey the one who severed it. That would mean some fool directed the beasts toward your manor or your lands in general, Master Roswaal.”
“It is no doubt relaaated to the royal selection. Like the invitation to Garfiel’s land, this has interfered with us considerably.”
Ram raised her eyebrows at the invocation of the well-known name.
“Gar…Garfiel, you say?”
Roswaal had a conflicted look as he shrugged. His behavior was aloof, but Ram was acutely aware that this was no small matter. Indeed, it was a battle with low odds of victory. They needed every card they could add to their hand.
“So that leaves two people to fight. Even if you and I go back there, we’d just be two drops against a bucket.”
“As the majority of the main residence’s fighting strength rests with Master Roswaal’s personal abilities, I cannot deny it. If Frederica was still with us, it might be a different story, but…”
“Subaru. Actually, in regards to Master Roswaal… There is a very high chance he will be absent from the mansion for several days.”
“-?! You knew? So Roswaal not being at the mansion was preplanned?”
“Master Roswaal was to visit Garfiel’s… Er, the place of an important individual within the dominion, and he planned to stay there for several days.”
“Shit, his timing sucks! So that’s why they can’t repel the attack!”
Yep, almost all of these were left out, except I think that first line mentioning Frederica briefly.
The actual best girl appears, past trial, aww yes we're in peak territory.
I'm really looking forward to the next episode, one of my favorites of the whole series.

From what I understood, the witches aren't deities. Instead, they are a group of already existing beings in the world (that knows some magic) hoping to make it better but ended up making it worse.
Regarding the witch of sloth sekhmet statement.....it makes more sense from this cut piece of content from S1

Re:zero world is actually flat and the waterfall at the edge of the world's is called great watefall.
About the dragon and the waterfall, from what I understand (maybe I'm wrong) it's making a reference to the Sabbath (the seventh day of rest), but I don't know how it would fit into the witch theme to be honest. Now from what I remember from the first season, the dragon is a very important entity... like, he, together with the sage and a sword saint, "trapped/sealed" the physical body of envy, he talks to every new representative of the country and for some reason roswaal wants to kill him.
I like the subtitle of this version and good reaction as always.

It starts at the Crusch manor, but more or less, it's moving towards a return to the village. Crusch's outfit here draws from both her time with and without her memory, and it's exceptionally nice.
Subaru's reward for assisting with the White Whale's defeat is Patrasche. If he wanted anything else, he could probably have had it, but more than anything, Subaru Natsuki trusts in people that he can take at face value. He didn't think that deeply about it himself, though.
You might also think that Crusch-san picked something from the wardrobe that was cute while still being Crusch-sama-ish. That would be quite fine, too.
The reason that Subaru tapped Crusch-san's hand is that he's shy about shaking a girl's hand.
Oh, when I see that Re: Zero commercials are playing on TV just like normal, it makes me feel really light-headed!
With the commercials over, we're on the road back from the capital. It's a dragon carriage pulled by two, and the one next to Patrasche is Otto's dear ground dragon, Verhoe. To Otto, he's a partner that's been with him for over ten years.
Last time she went and called her 'Rem-san', but Emilia keeps in mind this time to call her just 'Rem'. In the future as well, Emilia will think ahead and, as much as she can, remember 'Just call her Rem' to avoid hurting Subaru. Further, Otto wasn't just calling her by name, so there was a grudge about that.
Otto's quite handy for breaking up a serious moment. I can't help but treasure him.
Having made it through arc three, he's decided to finally clear the air with Roswaal about everything, including wanting to help Rem. But, having made up his mind and returned, there's no one in the village......
More or less, Subaru and the others were in the capital at the Crusch manor for thee or four days, so it's a little disturbing that Ram and the villagers haven't returned from "Sanctuary".
Here, Otto went to touch Rem to help her off the carriage, but Subaru smoothly slid between them to prevent that, wanting to keep her to himself.
If you tried knocking, and a maid you didn't know was in your house, it would be quite a surprise.
Frederica Baumann actually made a brief appearance in season one, in Ram and Rem's flashback in episode 11. A former maid of the Roswaal manor, she is Ram and Rem's senior as a maid.
On that note, while arc three may have felt long, in terms of days that past it was at most a week, so the fact that she could make such a mess of the mansion in that time show's Ram's actual ability. Incidentally, while she was alone there with Beatrice, she made nothing except steamed yams.
If 'Rem' had been there, Ram wouldn't have had to contact Frederica to call her back, but......
The fact that Roswaal only truly trusts 'Ram' and 'Beatrice' is a fairly important point, even in arc four.

The tempo and feeling of Subaru and Beatrice's conversation is good. One of Subaru's bad habits is teasing Beatrice while getting his emotions in order, as he's afraid to get to the main topic.
It's wonderful that Beatrice's mental state clearly changes after she's shown the gospel. Nice work, as expected of Arai-san.
It's the same all throughout Re: Zero, but I think it's interesting to watch again and realize what the characters were thinking at the time. Here, too, it's interesting to watch while thinking about the state of Beatrice's feelings.

I'd like you to keep in mind the displeased face Otto had for a moment before the 'Hohohoho'.
It's the 'Sanctuary of Cremaldy', but in the original web novel, it was just called "Sanctuary" "Sanctuary" and a name was added in the printed edition. It was just a little too hard to find when the place didn't have a name.
It's being treated as two days having already passed, and telling sleeping Rem about the events of the day has become part of Subaru's daily routine.

Looking at Ram and Rem's backstory, it seems like Petra's maid outfit actually is a hand-me-down from those two.
There were some near misses between Petra and Beatrice in the 'Memory Snow' OVA and such, but Beatrice avoided it by not making contact and hiding, so they've never spoken directly. Hence, Beatrice is a 'It seems like there was someone like that...' sort of a vague existence in Petra's mind.

About Petra's tradition, it's from the sure-fire strategies put together by Petra's papa and mama, one of 108 attacks that Petramama prepared her with.
Further, about Petra and Frederica as they're left alone at the mansion, Petra's very good at remembering things, so she's be a more useful maid than Subaru right away.
'I'll protect Subaru, no matter what!' is, going forward, basically Emilia's unchanging stance in regards to Subaru. Subaru dies all the time, so it's lots of trouble for the people around him. What is he, a goldfish?
Previously, Emilia had heard about the existence of "Sanctuary" from Roswaal, but the actuality of it is 'A demihuman village', so it's very unsettling. Emilia's only seen a very small part of the world, so she's not able to hide her fear.
The stone that Frederica gave her begins to shine brightly, Emilia loses consciousness, and Subaru is in an unknown location. Around this point, the flow of the web novel and printed novel change.
Incidentally, it was sneaky, but today is longer, too! I'm ashamed to show my face to the staff!

Last time, it was the style where the credits played without music, but this time it's a performance with hand-written letters appearing, so it carries a really quite strong feeling. Amazing.

There are few moments like this in S2 where lack of monolgue,cut content makes subaru seem idotic........
- He did ask question about rem and sin archbishops but she didn't knew presumably doesn't know current world events for now
- So Subaru was very suspicious of her and even though he was putting the act was very cautitous of her and wanted to get out first because 2 reasons its logically right she seemed sus back out and you can go back in later(although we know how it turned out its a limited opportunity) and MAINLY
This whole season he's on edge which anime doesn't convery properly of checkpoints being updated the fear is in him about that and he was really worried if he wasn't there something might happen to emilia just like rem and thus wanted to get out...etc(the anime made him look like simpy i guess it works for comedic reasons).
Setup episodes done peak starts now although ep2 ending and ep 3 were great as well
S1 also had pretty amazing world building and lore but most of it was cut in favour of the core character study focus.....9 vols in 1 season so yeah A LOT was cut.
