- The narrow and steep path up the Besseggen Ridge in Norway can take your breath away. So can the view from the top.
The hike takes 6-8 hours including breaks. It's recommended for experienced hikers, or with a guide. The ridge is steep and can be windy. If you are planning you first mountain hike, it might be a good idea to choose an easier alternative than Besseggen or join a guided trip.

HOW TO GET THERE
There are two options for getting to Besseggen. You can either start hiking from the Gjendesheim tourist lodge or take the boat from Gjendesheim to Memurubu and start your hike from there. The latter is the easiest route. To ensure you get on the boat, it is wise to reserve tickets in advance. You can stay overnight at Gjendesheim or Memurubu, and start the day fresh and fit the next morning.

Phenomenal hike. Physically demanding, mentally exhilarating. It is an intense section on the steep ridge, and pretty trippy visually.
yes, it is one of the toughest hikes, but the views are super rewarding!
This was a hike to remember. One of the first proper hikes I ever did, so suitable for beginners.

I did this hike and I would say it's suitable for intermediate level. The scrambling portions are not for new hikers.

I was on July 1, 2023 on Besseggen and made my way back from the ridge. I'm amazed how the Besseggen staff couldn't install a ladder or a chain or rope for the ridge since it's not safe for climbing. When you get in front of the ridge, then you will really realize it and you will weigh the words in my comment.
What do say about hiking there in middle of October? How is the weather?

Is it save to hike this route with a dog? I mean, there are no steep stairs or parts which are not save?

I've done it and while on the trip i saw two seperate parties that brought their dog. Although, the dog had to be carried at some parts.
